EllieKthePA · 08/05/2007 23:35

this one, but out of stock online

elkiedee · 09/05/2007 03:17

Glad to see you're all as mad as me when it comes to chattering v sleep. I'm up down here at 3 am almost crying with relief.

Thanks for tip about lying down position feeding but it doesn't work for me for some reason as I'm the wrong size, shape and angles - my nursing bra is not a complete disaster sizewise though it was a bit of a gamble, but it shows that I'm a truly weird shape right now, it might be the right size or within one back/cup size in either way, as far as is possible without getting a custom-made nursing bra (no point for a short time really.

However, I've found a default position sitting on the side of the bed straight up, drawback is no back support but I can't get it right in any other position either. Big advantages - quick latch - 30 seconds to 2 mins, can catch baby wriggling too much, can bear it if I have to have a second go as it's quite quick. And it's the only position in which I can look at anything or anyone other than baby, as the latch is fairly secure. So that saves my neck at least from getting a crick, the way I do if I'm in teh wrong position at work (secretarial). So, I can look at the computer or watch TV. If he drops off, it's feasible to do a bit moreand the boredom involvd isn't too killing.

Thanks for the Matalan top tip - I think there's one in Wood Green.

I can't register Danny where he was born until 21 June (no appointments) - what if I was in urgent need of the money? However, I can go to my own borough's registry and declare the birth, and they pass it on where it should take about 10 days. The next appt is 22 May, but this does allow me to walk to the Register Office if I can't get into a bus about 2 miles rather than 6.

Goodnight, maybe

Birdiemum · 09/05/2007 08:38

Good morning! Still haven't caught up on thread but at least Rose seems to be giving us really good nights. A combination of a "miracle" swaddling blanket and the Amby Nest. Last night was from midnight to 7am. But she is far to young to get into a pattern so no need to get too jealous just yet!

Gotta go again as it is miserable day and DS2 wants to go on bloody Cbeebies website.

Whendoobygotstuckupthechimney · 09/05/2007 08:58

mORNING aLL
Havent caught up cpmpletely. But sokl..my health visitor did say yesterday that Aptamil extra can cause discomfort re pooing etc.I t didnt with ds1 but Milo seems to experience some discomfort sometimes when he poos.she said to give cooled boiled water with a squeeze of orange as that can help.Milo isn't consipated tho.He just dosen't seem satisfied with the normal Aptamil.
He now weighs 10lb 9and ahalf ounces. Its like heaving round a sack of spuds!

octo · 09/05/2007 09:41

Ellie - got your hotmail email! Sorry for not telling you but have had trouble keeping up with email/mn and thought it was time to comeout of closet and confess!

Pesha - Iam planning to start expressing to keep supply up as ernie has dropped two night feeds and I think my supply is reducing during the day - esp in morning as a result. Am going to express at about 9pm and see what happens ...

I am guilty of the 3 children thing, 2 cars, regularly failing to recycle paper, not buying organic food, occasionally flying and not always buying ecover! But think is all suitably balanced but what I do do - cloth nappies, recycling, growing own veg, holidays in UK .... etc etc

Taking Ernie to doctors as still has sticky eye and is now over 3 weeks old - want some antibiotics to clear it up. Meant to be seeing HV today but have opted to go to friends for tea and cake instead

DH meal was lovely - prawn & chilli salad (homegrown ), 5 spice tuna and rice and a huge piece of yummy chocolate cake dh made!

Must go - have 40 mins to myself while ernie asleep ....

Have a good day all xxxx

octo · 09/05/2007 09:42

btw prawns not homegrown LOL

mammyjo · 09/05/2007 09:51

Birdie, what is the miracle swaddling blanket? At 6 weeks old would dd be too big for it or is it meant for bigger babes too. Have had a bloody awful night with her, feeding around every 1.5 hours and not settling well between this either. Consequently she is knackered this morning and really miserable and crying all the time. Have managed to settle her for a bit but dont know for how long. I do wonder if maybe she was cold as when I finally gave in and got her in beside me she went out like a damn light! Maybe the warmth or maybe just the fact that she wanted to be cuddled!

CD, thanks for the info. Are the sheepskins meant for sleeping on at night or not. My dh reckoned they would get all the wool coming off, but I said I am sure they are treated so they dont do that as it prob wouldnt be too good for a young babe otherwise! Sorry to be dim about this!

SOKL, glad K isnt colicky. Hope she gets more settled soon.

Pesha, hope you manage to get some rest soon. I feel crap after just a few nights of constant feeding. I am sure that is part of the reason I was so narked with dh at the weekend (he was a PITA though). Hope your ds1 gets better really soon too. You poor thing coping with that on top of a newborn. Why is life so bloody mean sometimes!!

Tried to start the bedtime routine with dd last night and it ended up with me upstairs for the whole evening doing a marathon of feeding, putting her down, her screaming, me picking her up etc etc. Perhaps I wont bother tonight. Will stay downstairs where at least I have tv for distraction! Have tv upstairs but was trying to keep everything quiet to settle her! Yeah right!!

Sexonknackeredlegs · 09/05/2007 09:52

Morning all.

Dooby, you still have your Christmas nickname!

Thanks for the note re Aptamil Extra. I have gone back to the regular Aptamil, and K has not been pulling legs up since, so I assume it was just a bit rich for her, as she is still quite little. She doesn't have any trouble with her poo, but I just think it was causing her discomfort poor lamb.

Octo, your dinner sounded amazing!

Birdie, lovely to see you and v jealous of the straight 7 hours!

We had an ok night tbh - K up at 2.45 and then at 7.00 so cannot complain!

Right, K about to kick off so need to get on.

Will catch up later. Hope everyone is well. x

mammyjo · 09/05/2007 09:53

Hi Octo, imagined you with your prawns in a tank somewhere!! Very of you with Ernie dropping night feeds. Wish Ffion would even just drop one!

mammyjo · 09/05/2007 09:55

Morning SOKL, x post there. Glad you had a good night, hope my good ones return soon! For a few nights she only woke once but that now seems a very distant memory!

mammyjo · 09/05/2007 09:58

Dooby, lol at your disney cereal. I could eat some of that actually, my diet really is crap just now. Full of junk that I can just grab as I go which mainly means biscuits, chocolate etc. Should grab at fruit but it just doesnt have the same appeal somehow!

nuttygirl · 09/05/2007 10:04

well i did catch up but have already forgotten everything cos I got a bit distracted .

My sling arrived this morning, I think I've managed to figure it out but will watch the DVD tonight to make sure! Also got a free toothbrush from a survey I filled in (found a link to it on here!) and a security guy came round to check my house (for free) and I blagged some new locks for the shed . AND Erin's sleeping

CaptainDippy · 09/05/2007 10:35

One handed typing as P is being a complete clingy Milk Monster this morning and won't settle anywhere but in my arms ..... PITA!!

Sorry you are finding stuff tough Pesha hon - [[[hugs]]] My DD1 got the Dreaded Pox the day I got home from hospital with DD2, truly nightmareish ....she then got Pneumonia and was in hospital recieving IV anti-b's for a week ...... Maaaaarvellous!! Whatever doesn't kill you, will only make you stronger and all that!!

Mammyjo - Yes, the sheepskins are specially treated so the "fluff" doesn't come out of them, they are short haired anyway - not great big shaggy things!!! You can use them for baby to sleep on at night, or in the pram or just on the ground outside in the summer (under shade, obviously! )

My dad's coming down today to see P & the girls. Was hoping to go to the Farm, but weather's not looking very promising. Mmmmmmm......

Birdiemum · 09/05/2007 10:42

Mammyjo - it is called a Miracle Blanket and you can get it online. I'll try to do a link later if I get time but am very slow at them! It is suitable for up to 14 weeks and costs around £15. I like it cos it is cotton (not too hot - she just wears a bodysuit with it at the moment) and it has these nifty little flaps which stop the arms escaping and a little pouch to keep her feet warm. We have only been using it for that night-time sleep for about a week (she is 4 weeks today), swaddling her in it and putting her in the Amby Nest as we go to sleep and she really does conk out in it! Average of 5 hours a night with it so far - fingers crossed.

CaptainDippy · 09/05/2007 10:54

Swaddling is the best!!

OP posts:
nuttygirl · 09/05/2007 10:59

CD - when I use the sling do I need one less layer of clothing on baby or just as I'd dress her in the pram?

CaptainDippy · 09/05/2007 11:02

I'd just dress her as you would for the pram. Feel her back after a wee while and if she feels hot and / or sweaty, take something off.
