It's LC btw - I'm in disguise! - [mysterious emoticon]

HenriettaHippo · 23/05/2007 21:02

teafortwo, are you Liquidclocks in a new guise??

HenriettaHippo · 23/05/2007 21:02

crossed posts! congratulations!

Coriander73 · 24/05/2007 09:28

Congratulations LC..(why the new name?!!) DH's cousin has just a little girl too called Nicole Rose & I have an old Uni friend who is due number two today!!! Another Uni friend due July 15th & then that's it for now....I need some more pg dates in the diary...but not mine!!!!! (definitely not broody at the moment)

P & T is very practical & not at all poncey....as for the bugaboo, well I better not say too much or bristols will be back defending them to the hilt!!!!!!!

compo, same in our house...I love footie & DH loathes it! He watched all of 3 mins of the final last night before going off to play on the pc! I watched the entire match & was gutted for Liverpool (not that I'm a fan of them but wanted them to win!)...dare I ask who you support? Freedom, great great song...."I don't want your freedom I just want to play around...ladedadeda......So it was OK to have Wham posters then?!!!! I always felt bullied as I didn't have Duran Duran ones on my wall.. (I did go through a little A-ha phase too but that didn't last as long as my love for Wham....!!!!!!!!! DH thinks I'm very sad ) The 80s were great weren't they? (fashion & an!! - I did have a ra-ra skirt!)

What's all this talk of creases? never even looked with DD or with J...what anyhow are you supposed to be looking for & worrying about?!

OP posts:
Coriander73 · 24/05/2007 09:30

KreamKrackers, I meant to add, have you considered trying cranial osteopathy?

OP posts:
teafortwoandtwofortea · 24/05/2007 10:03

You probably don't even notice the HV checking creases - it's usually just a quick glance to make sure all looks well. In some babies though the creases (where the skin folds near a joint) it can look a bit out of alignment so that's when they check that things are right like bone and joint structure.

KK - DS1 was a hard baby like that, crying all the time around this age. In the end we just had to put it down to frustration at not being mobile, there seemed to be no other reason for it - but it stopped as soon as he learned to crawl so big conincidence if it wasn't that. It is hard though, I hope you have a better day today.

Namechange btw as SIL has been lurking on MN and knows my regular name. Not that I have a problem with mist stuff I write but there's the odd bit that's kind of 'friends' talk and wouldn't necessarily want family to be aware of - so just politics really!

Anyway, we've discovered why DS1's been SO blo*dy miserable - I went to clean his teeth yesterday (always a battle) and suddenly blood's pouring from his mouth. After the initial gush I managed to get a look (through the tears) and I'd caught the top off an ulcer at the back of his mouth and alll his gums are very inflamed. It looks like he has more teeth coming thtough. I feel so guilty though, we have such a fuss trying to clean his teeth we probably don't do it properly and because I've not been around in the mornings I haven't done them at all. I asked DH if he's been doing them and he said yes but when questioned further it turns out 'yes but only once or twice a week'. Arrgh! Anyway, now I have to take him to the dentist which is an hours drive away and I can't go today because I feel dizzy myself - thankfully the doctor has prescribed some interim meds to help it heal. Poor little guy though - all along we were thinking it must be his tummy, he must have a cold blah blah blah - everything but checking the point of entry!

I think I need to go and retake my 'basic mothering' qualification...

Coriander73 · 24/05/2007 10:27

twofortwo, may I ask what it is your suffering from? Sorry if you've explained all this before but I can't help but notice that you mention feeling dizzy etc

I'm having a brain scan next week...bit scared tbh! However it is my birthday next week...

OP posts:
teafortwoandtwofortea · 24/05/2007 10:32

Cori- you can abbreviate me to TFT if it makes life easier

I'm going though a bad patch with migraines again - having them nearly everyday so just living on codeine and voltarol. I'd started some meds that I used to take and I know they work in terms of prevention. Trouble is that it takes up to 3 months to build the levels up to an effective dose and they make you hungry all the time. I find when I've had migraine constantly and no sleep I can't think straight and I feel dizzy so that's where I'm at today - though thankfully very little pain this morning. Just hoping I'm up to the drive tomorrow.

I didn't know you were going for a scan though, can I ask what sort? Sorry if that's too nosy, I hope whatever comes out of it is good though and you get the results quickly.

MunkiBaby · 24/05/2007 12:45

T42 i see you finally changed the name. Covering your tracks from family members? Good Idea! But then again, i suppose it's too late for me. I gave an old, unused mobile to one of my SILs and DH said he totally cleaned out the memory. Master reset, etc. HOWEVER! a week later, we heard it through the family grapevine that there was a text in the phone from me to DH, going on and on about...well, that SIL never having a job, always mysteriously pregnant when the dole start knocking for her to get a job. hmmm. ANYWAYS, she read it and goodness only knows what else....i apologized over and over again. she forgave me and i felt like a right kn*b knowing that she read it. So, its no secret. heheheh. But i never give away mobile phones to people i know anymore. ha! only to charity. its the safest option.

Any ways, huge congrats for the family on baby sophie!

mabel1973 · 24/05/2007 12:57

TFT - poor you and your DS, hope you feel better soon.. and congrats on your neice.

I knew creases were important i remember (before i had my 2) a friend saying that her DD's were checked, i can't say i have ever studied DS's, I haven't had him weighed since he had his last jabs, i really ought to take him, also i am sure i remember DS1 getting some free books at around this age from clinic.

Bristols - i do like bugaboo's, i think they are cool, but outrageously expensive! I couldn't justify spending that amount. We have an out n about nipper double, which i am v happy with alsthough had 2 punctures in 2 weeks!
My neighbour is selling her P&T's as her youngest (18 months) sits in the back seat with his hands dragging on the wheels, so has constantly filthy hands and she is worried he'sll get them trapped! Her eldest is 3.5 so i guess really he ought to be giving up the pushchair by now anyway!

I feel i ought to change my name.....everyone else is....have to think of something witty!

MunkiBaby · 24/05/2007 12:57

Hello everyone. Doing alrighty? Good!

Tomorrow, ds will be 8 months and will be having his 8m check up early june (its late because of the bank holiday i assume). I'm very excited about it for some reason. Looking forward to getting him weighed. So very curious to see what sort of gain he's had since eating 2.5 solid meals a day plus snacks plus bf!

Oh, and i've been itching to buy a forward facing car seat so i'll be pleased it he's reached the 9k/20lb mark. forward facing carseat means mommie can sit up front with daddy again, without worry. I didi look through the MN product reviews but anyone else have any suggestions about brands they like/dislike and features, convenience, etc ??? HELP!

KK, my ds was born breech as well and had the scan due to one leg being up by his face, the other pointing straight down. the scan came back fine as well....and i have never known that the creases should be symmetrical. thanks for the info. of course, now im going to look. heheh

Compo, on the subject of wham, i think the very first single i ever heard was Freedom. Funnier still, i was singing it outloud while doing the dishes last night ((and i hadnt even read through MN to know you were all talking about it)). ok so i have a rubbish singing voice but it makes no difference because DH took ds over to my MIL's farm for a quickie visit before she goes south to see Simply Red as R.A.H. or something. ((i think she'll be seeing GM in june as well)). Lucky!

((Nickiey, dont feel out of the loop! I didnt know what a bugaboo was until today at my first visit to the local parent/toddler playgroup..)) PLUS i dont have a clue what Bluewater is! Please fill me in!! Sounds like something i must see (or spend money at?) hehehe. I have an excuse for not know what these things or places are though, i'm not from this country...

Myrtle i'm very happy to hear all went well at the christening. you should post a photo on the yahoo group.

Coriander73 · 24/05/2007 14:24

Munki FWIW we have a Maxi Cosi Priori which has suited us fine. Being in the industry I am (& soon not to be!) I'd only recommend the following: Concord, Maxi Cosi or Britax - but each to their own as you've seen with buggies!!! . As for Bluewater it's just a very large shopping centre along the lines of Cribbs Causeway in Bristol & the Trafford Centre in Manchester me thinks! Has every shop under the sun...nice place to shop during the week when it's quiet

Mabel, you can't change your name as well! I wont remember anyone's anymore, still getting to grips with HH & now TFT!!!!....but if you're all at it then I can't just be left as little old Coriander! - but I like my name!!!!

TFT, I think it's a case of the doctor being over cautious! I've just been experiencing a few things of late that have led her to think I should have a scan to be on the safe side etc. I'm sure it's all ok although DH is worried & keeps on crying ......but he is a natural born worrier..unlike myself. So sorry you're suffering so much with migraines My Aunt has then rather badly every few weeks or so & it just sounds awful.

Just popped into Waitrose during lunch break & promised not to spend more than £20...didn't do too bad...spent £50...but that was the wine (somebody gave us a bottle of nice Chilean chardonnay which I was desperate to get my hands on again, that's my excuse anyhow!!) Oh well, whilst I can I suppose. Not looking fw to asking DH for money...! I think I may have a complusion to spend..even if it's only £5 here & there...honestly I do wonder sometimes

3rd series of Greys Anatomy starts tonight on Living (only just found out so am very excited as thought I'd have to wait until later in year for Channel 5!! - anyone else into it or am I just a little saddo..with nothing better to do?)

OP posts:
teafortwoandtwofortea · 24/05/2007 14:52

Cori- I hope it goes well, fwiw, I've known 5 or 6 people who've been for scans 'to be on the safe side' as it were (rather than to scan for the extent of a known condition) and they've all been fine. Give your DH a big hug.

Munki - I know you probably don't want to hear this but the advice on safety is to leave changing car seats until 9 months as the rear facing are safer. On choosing the next size up though my definite favourite is the concord ultimax - it's so cosy! I really wouldn't go for one of the 9months-11yrs ones at this stage though - definitely go for one that reclines a lot for when you do long journeys. (and always go to mothercare for fitting then buy from kiddicare )

Coriander73 · 24/05/2007 15:01

Thanks TFT! Glad to see you have a Concord - yes they do look & feel very cosy don't they?!! As we needed DD's Maxi Cosi for DS we have a Concord Trimax as an interim gap until she's 4 plus. Then she'll be in the bigger seat without harness. Halfords are very good for fitting & advice also

OP posts:
HenriettaHippo · 24/05/2007 15:25

On car seats, we have a Britax Freeway - the only one that would fit our previous car (very silly Saab convertible that DH had from work. Now got estate..!!). We've been happy with it, and DS2 is already in it. He is much happier, can see out, and doesn't push on the seat as he was doing in the rear facing one - he was almost catapulting himself out. DS1 has a Graco stage 3 (I think) seat for older children - he is too tall and heavy for the Stage 2 ones anymore - he's nearly 1.1m and 3 stone. More like a 4-5 year old...). It's downside is that it doesn't recline the same as the seats for younger children.

Cori, I hope the scan is ok.

I think Bluewater is the Mother of all shopping centres. Cribbs Causeway here is a mere baby in comparison! There's a massive one near Sheffield I think too? Went there once. I avoid the places like the plague, hate shopping... weird woman. I was impressed with ourselves a couple of weeks ago. In 45 mins we managed to buy DH shorts, Tshirts, me jeans and a top and DS1 a bunny clock!

Coriander73 · 24/05/2007 15:34

No, not that strange I don't like shopping that much either. I can't shop till I drop at all...after 2 hours (if I make it that long) I'm dying on my feet & get very grumpy!! As for shopping with DH...too stressful as he expects everything done in 20 mins flat - which although I don't like faffing myself I just can't do so leads to much friction. The answer, just leave him at him!!!

OP posts:
Ivor · 24/05/2007 15:36

Hi everyone, heven't been MNing for a while so I've tried to catch up but I can't remember where I'd got up to last

Cori - fingers crossed everything goes well with the scan, may be finishing work will help!

TFT - Hope you and DS1 are feeling better soon

LOL at the wham fans, have to admit that I was too, awfully long time ago!

Hoping to take DS for his first swim this weekend. The pool at our apartment complex is scheduled to open on Saturday so all we need now is some sunshine

I attended my first MOM's group on Monday, they provide childcare which DS did'nt take to and kept being brought out as he was crying. He's never been like that before, are anyone else's LO's going through a clingy stage?

Coriander73 · 24/05/2007 16:20

J's been slightly clingy of late - DD was never clingy but that wouldn't suprise you if you met her! When I pick them up from nursery he's all smiles but inevitably DD has got to me first etc & I get out of his site all for a few seconds & he just cries & cries..once he sees me again he's fine...soppy boy

OP posts:
HenriettaHippo · 24/05/2007 16:24

Fraser is really clingy at the moment. Sometimes all I have to do is pop out of the room for a millisecond and he explodes with tears flying everywhere! He cries whenever someone other than me or DH tries to hold him (although thank god, he seems to accept his key carer at nursery). I think it's a phase - they've only just realised that they are different beings to us, and they aren't surgically attached..!!

Ivor, what's the mom's group about - is it like a thing where you get to have a coffee and the babies are in a creche type thing? Wow, don't get that over here!

Coriander73 · 24/05/2007 16:27

HH, Jack does that too..I pop into the kitchen for a split second whilst he's in the lounge & the tears we have because of it!! As soon as he's seen me big big smiles & laughing.....

OP posts:
Ivor · 24/05/2007 16:28

The MOM's group was fun, they usually have a guest speaker, Monday it was a chap talking about composting and recycling!
It's really nice, they take turns in making / buying cakes and everybody has a chat and a coffee.
I think they also do play dates and Mom's night outs which sound good.
DS is one of the younger babies although one lady had a 4 week old, he was tiny and still all wrinkled up. Now I'm feeling broody!!!!

MunkiBaby · 24/05/2007 17:21

ivor that sounds very nice and social. i found a parent toddler group here in my little village and visited for the first time this morning. its nowhere near as active and involved as yours sounds...but im ever so grateful that ds will get the opp to learn about socializing.

thanks for the advice on the forward facing carseats. i've had my eye on the britax evolva 123 but still unsure. i think it may be beneficial to buy one that he will use for years and years...that is, only if it lasts that long...i.e. fabric torn to shreds, etc.

ivor, side note...i was in a nosy mood and browsed your profile and lovely family photos. and i have to disagree about the music. hahah the smiths/morrissey is my teenage alma mata so although i dont have it playing 24/7, its like my comfort food of music though.

compo · 24/05/2007 18:53

Hi everyone Wow, loads of posts to catch up on.

Thanks for reminding me about Greys Anatomy tonight - that's the 3rd series right? woohoo!!

Cori - I'm afraid i'm a Notts Forest supporter... shame they aren't doing very well these days Who do you supprt?

TFT - so sorry to hear about ds1's ulcer - that sounds very painful, hoe the dentist sprts it. And hope the migraines ease off for you soon.

So 20lbs in the magic number for car seat no.2? Yeh, more excuse to go shopping!!

compo · 24/05/2007 18:54

actually dd is going to go into ds' one so we need to get one of those that go up to age 11 or whatever it is. Any recommendations for that?

HenriettaHippo · 24/05/2007 19:15

compo, that's what we've done, moved DS1 into the bigger seat. It's a Graco, has little trays that come out the side for a drink - he thinks that's great...
