Hello...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JingleBelle · 19/06/2007 12:48

Bristols - congratulations!! I'm glad you are now getting used to the idea and are happy about it. You will have exactly the same age gap as there is between my brother & me and we get on really well (although we did fight like typical brother and sister when younger, but I don't think that was influenced by the age gap). My DB was very sick as a baby, had to be fed every 2 hours and was sick after every feed (exactly same as my DS, so think it is inherited) but my Mum bf my brother entirely and has consistently told the story of how, when he was sick, I would just say "Quick, nappy" and grab a terry towelling nappy from the radiator for her to mop up the sick (not sure where that loving, helpful streak came from and am quite sure it was gone by the time he was old enough to fight with me over toys ), so I am sure you will have a similar loving and helpful experience with your two. Guess your matching underwear will have to go out the window again for a few months soon?
Cori - sorry to hear about you feeling down, hope that once you get settled into being a SAHM that you get back on an even kilter - you've always sounded so upbeat on here.
Fraid I can't remember all the messages, but have been keeping up-to-date. Seem to get no time being full-time at work and having to travel 55 mins each way to work, but was at home looking after DS yesterday, as he was ill and do know that being at home is just as much work, but I would still enjoy it more. Am convinced a 3-day working week would be the ideal scenario, but is a no-go on the flexi-working at work, so shall have to keep going for now. Plan is still to keep going for next 18 months to 2 years and then hopefully either be going on mat leave again, or leave for a part-time job nearer home. We shall see. A planner, moi?!
Can someone remind me which car seats you all recommend - which Britax and Concord ones have you recommended. Think we really need to get the next stage one for DS soon and am so confused!! My Mum was really proud that she printed off some info from Which website re. carseats, but she didn't realise that she had printed off the recommendations for 4-12 year olds seats [bless emoticon]!
Anyway, really should be getting on with work, having been off yesterday with DS, but just cannot get my arse into gear today (DS was awake from 5am this morning and DH tells me he fell asleep in his highchair at 7.35am and stayed asleep for 2 hours - why couldn't he just tag that on to the end of the night?!!?!)
Munki - congrats on the sleep through the night. and congrats on BFing so long - you have done brilliantly (so wish I had not been persuaded by Consultant to go onto FF, but that's all in the past now).
Manda - well done on weight loss. You will be my inspiration. I lost 5lbs first week, but have only managed 1lb over last 3 weeks - my excuse has been my birthday, parties and just lack of sleep with DS, but they are jus that - excuses!!
Am sure there was lots more I wanted to post about, but that's long enough for now .

Coriander73 · 19/06/2007 12:54

or pregnant Myrtle??!!

Went for a facial this morning & feel tons better...maybe just temporary but nevertheless do feel better...or is it because it's hot & sunny? HH, doctor is very nice - have seen her for past 3 years & the children have had their checks with her etc & she was the one who said & I quote "after knowing you for some time, you seem a bit spaced & distant, as if you were just not concentrating here & now".....

bristols, yes, we're about 1.15 away from bluewater. Would be good to meet but not next week, maybe week after? I think compo isn't that far either...how about it compo?! BTW, I don't have a P & T, wish we had that's why I say buy one! We were given a brand new Maclaren twin techno but it's pants...

Coriander73 · 19/06/2007 14:15

BTW, is anybody interested in a second hand denim (blue & white gingham inside) Baby Bjorn carrier? Before I put it on e-bay I was wondering if any of you had any need or knew of anyone who would like it? It was £50 new & I'd like £30 (which includes p&p). It's been used approx 10 times with DD & DS...very good nick (still have the box)

OP posts:
Myrtle1 · 19/06/2007 14:18

Cori, don't think so, just had first af since giving up bf.
It wasn't as painful as usual, is that a nice side-effect from having a baby or is it just breaking me in gently?

Coriander73 · 19/06/2007 14:41

no, it's because now you've experienced contractions period pains pail into insignificance IMHO!!!!!!!

OP posts:
bristols · 19/06/2007 16:59

Cori - yeah, I can do the week after. Monday or Wednesday?

Rushing off to get the washing in. Looks decidedly dodgy outside. Very dark and windy.

Nothing much more to report anyway. Hopefully back later.

MunkiBaby · 20/06/2007 07:09

bristols ~ just wanted to pop in and tell you that i was taking to another mom in my playgroup and she said a neighbour of hers just had a baby...her other child is all of 10 months old!!! so, if you were worried about having 2 babies, it could be worse i suppose!

MunkiBaby · 20/06/2007 07:10

taLking, not taking

mabel1973 · 20/06/2007 08:31

Hi all

Cori sorry hear you are so down, I didn't realise things had got to you that much. You have been through a lot though, it is hardly surprising. I hope you get the support you need now and of course we are all here for you anyway

Those mooncup things look so uncomfortable - i don't understand how they work really....i am not sure i want to...!

DS2 still not right. I called the HV on monday and she said if he's still not right by thur to get a sample pot and take a sample in to the doctors. I did see some improvement, but then after a good day he did a horrible nasty poo before bedtime. I have had him on the BRAT diet, which i think helped, but yesterday i felt sorry for him and let him have a bit of cheese and some malt loaf, so it is probably my fault, so it's back to BRAT again this morning. I am worrying because he seems to have real trouble sleeping comapred to DS1, maybe he just is a lighter sleeper, but he has woken at 4.30am everyday this week, last night we had to resort to driving him round to get him to sleep as nothing else worked, we NEVER did that with DS1, maybe it is just because he's not feeling too good. He is also moving a round the cot alot and getting stuck in the corners, he also sleeps on his tummy now.

Coriander73 · 20/06/2007 08:45

Hi Mabel....yes, it's strange as I hadn't realised it either. Although saying that I do feel OK today too. I don't think it's anything major just a tad low because of all the changes etc. I do appreciate all the support on MN - don't know what I'd do without you all..

OP posts:
Coriander73 · 20/06/2007 18:35

Is it something I said?!! Very quiet today...

OP posts:
Marls001 · 20/06/2007 20:08

Bristols - Congrats!!

And Manda - Congratulations on losing weight!! Yay!! ~~~~

Well, DH came back late Thurs. night but left early this morning - gone again 'til late tomorrow night!! He received a golf club in the mail today - prob'ly as a reward from a colleague for making some business deal - but ironically doesn't have time for golf these days b/c he's working too much. (He's in Dallas again.)

Been forever since I posted. Hard to keep up!!

Cori - sorry to hear about how you're feeling; have been feeling a little something of that on top of the antidepressant I'm ALREADY taking, so I completely understand!! I think going from 1 to 2 has been as big a change as from 0 to 1 - seems either DH & I have to handle one child each (so that's twice the work it was with DS1 when we were out together as a family) or one of us is overwhelmed with both. May have mentioned this but have been feeling very burned out. Sometimes can't believe how fast time is passing & won't have little chubby cheeks around for long (then, Bristols) and sometimes just can't wait to have those two weeks at the end of July/beginning of August without the children.

TeaforTwo - Happy Birthday!! Mine was Saturday - we're one day off! but 12 years off ... Met for neighborhood book club last night, where all members have teenagers but me. One of the other women & I were celebrating bdays together. She said she's exhilarated knowing she's just a few years away from "freedom." She's 39! So, that'll be you - free at 43! I'll have to wait until 55!! (I think it'll be much more fun & less overwhelming in a few years though!!)

JingleBelle - We have the Britax Regent ... really great so far! Very flexible, for weights from 22 to 80 lbs.

Our house went on the market yesterday; there's now a sign in our front yard

Scare last night when DH had to take DS1 to ER for possible concussion - didn't have that, but turns out in routine exam he had an ear infection - so's now on antibiotics. Have a commision due Thurs. so really should be working on that
Life's just hectic recently ...

Very jealous abt the meetup!!

mrsharrypotter · 20/06/2007 21:08

that you are meeting up.

Munki, congrats on a full nights sleep!

Bristols, one of my friends had a section to deliver her ds 2 days before her twins 1st birthday, the twins were prem and definatly aren't self sufficient yet, I don't think she has enough arms....

Myrtle, hope, you're feeling better.

I've been working 4pm till midnight for the last 6 days, and as ds get's up at just gone 6 to poo, and dh leaves for work at 5, I am shattered. I've got 2 days off after tonight and I can't wait, I'm soooooo tired!

zmandaz · 20/06/2007 21:20

MrsHarryPotter - thanks for the recommendation, I'll have a look at the MaxiCosy next time I'm in Mothercare. By the way, are you excited about the new film and book coming out? I've pre-ordered the book off Amazon, how sad is that

HenriettaHippo - DD uses the Tommee Tippee beaker too. I tried so many different ones but that seems to be the only one where the fluid comes out easily without too much effort. DD still isn't overly impressed by the idea but she's getting braver!

Does anyone know if the little clips you can buy to hold dummies are suitable for any type of dummy? I'm tempted to get one as DD has got into the habit of hurling her dummy at any moving target, especially the cat and I'm having to re-sterilize them over and over again during the day! But the ones I've seen in the supermarket are branded so I'm not sure if they'll fit our dummies.

I've had a really good week this week. I passed the first part of my Driving Instructor exams and I'm over the stone mark with my weight loss. The only negative thing that's happened is that I sent an order for a swim seat and some Baby Banz to the catalogue which makes Grobags (not sure if I'm allowed to name them?) and I know I checked the order before I sent it because I always do. I got a phone call from them saying that there was no payment in with the order. I phoned them to say that I sent a cheque with it and the guy said that they weren't saying I hadn't sent a cheque but as they hadn't received payment it was my fault so I would have to cancel the cheque but they wouldn't reimburse me for the fee (ten quid!) and I'd have to send another order. They wouldn't send the goods until the cheque cleared so they couldn't guarantee that I'd have them before our holidays. I told them to cancel and went with another company but I'm really annoyed at their attitude and that I've been charged for a cheque that they've lost. Grrrrr!

Rant over, sorry for another long post

mrsharrypotter · 20/06/2007 22:12

No problem .

Preordering the book isn't sad, I'm dressing up and collecting mine at midnight, I've booked the following day off work and haven't told dh, so he thinks I'm working when I'll be reading my shiny new book from cover to cover, now that is sad!

bristols · 20/06/2007 22:23

zmandaz - as far as I know, the dummy clips are quite universal. They just have a loop with velcro which goes around the 'handle' of the dummy. Hope that makes sense!

Marls - hope your LO is getting better and that the house move goes along smoothly.

Happy birthday to those I missed. Sorry. It's my 30th in August and I was planning a big champagne-fest. Never mind. I can postpone it for a few months.

Mabel - how's your DS today? Better, I hope.

I really should be in bed. Off to Ascot tomorrow. Have to leave the house at 7.10am!! Can't wait. You can look out for me on the telly, or in OK magazine

MunkiBaby · 20/06/2007 22:32

oOOOo cant wait to get the book...
((sorry, had to add that!!))

zmandaz · 20/06/2007 22:34

Thanks Bristols, I'll give them a try

MrsHarryPotter, I'm locking myself away until I've finished the book as last time they kept interviewing all these little kids on tv and they gave the plot away! I'm determined to read it all in one go, even if I have to go overnight. I'm so excited

bristols · 20/06/2007 22:36

You are going to think this really bad but.. I HAVE NEVER READ A HARRY POTTER BOOK!

DH, on the other hand, has read the lot. Will have to get him to log on to discuss it with you when the time comes.

MunkiBaby · 20/06/2007 22:43

hmm wonder if we should be really big saddo's and start the thread for the new book! heheh....

ok maybe i'm getting ahead of myself.

HenriettaHippo · 21/06/2007 09:21

Marls and T42, happy birthdays to you both!

Marls and Cori, I hope today is a good day for you and not too stressful. Cori, how are you feeling?

Mandaz, I am excited about the new HP book - we pre ordered ours on Amazon at around Christmas time I think! So we are all sad together!!! I've been re-reading the last 2 as well, to remind myself of the intricacies (not sure about that spelling...!!) of the plot...

Re. the dummies, I have no idea about the clips, but tbh, I wouldn't worry about sterilising if I were you - she'll no doubt be putting everything else in her mouth (if she's anything like my son, anyway), and exposure to a few germs is no bad thing I think (says she with 2 cats and a pathalogical hatred of cleaning...). I've stopped sterilising bottles and teats as well... just dishwasher them.

Congrats on the test, and the stone lost! The baby banz etc. - guessing it was Bump-3? Did they actually take the £10, or did you give your card no? I'd be tempted to write to head office telling them what happened, and refusing to pay the £10, very unlikely they'd pursue it I think... V. cheeky

Bristols, I think you SHOULD read Harry Potter!! There is already a thread about HP I think. I'm sure DH has been on it discussing previous books' plots, and how they all think it's going to end. Bit too much for me, I can't keep track.

DH has been away all week here too. Shame we can't all meet up when the DH's are away! He's back late tonight. DS1 keeps saying "is it Thursday today Mummy?" every morning, as he knows that's when Daddy is coming home. V. cute until I say no, it's only Wednesday, and then he throws a bit of a wobbly - "but it IS Thursday today!!". But then cute again - "but I miss Daddy and I love him". Now that's why I had children. Can you remind me when I next moan??

phone ringing, must be DH to say morning!!

mabel1973 · 21/06/2007 10:23

Hi all

mandaz i would complain about loosing your ten quid, that is dreadful customer service, i wouldn't just leave it. Oh and congrats on passing your exam!

Bristols have a great time at ascot...i have never read a harry potter book either...i just don't get it i'm afraid, i have seen 2 of the films, i thought the 1st one was ok, it's just not my sort of thing.

Ds is a bit better, although he has a bit of a sniffle now, i am not taking him to little fishes this morning just to be on the safe side. I resorted to medised last night, just to ensure we got a good night sleep....unfortunately i didn't and ended up sleeping on the living room floor!!!!! I just could not sleep it was so hot in our bedroom, DH was snoring, and i'd been to yoga and although we do relaxation at the end i think it actually made me feel more awake, i just could not settle.

Does anyone know how long the 'clingy' phase is supposed to last? DS1 didn't go through this with me, he has always been a daddy's boy. DS2 is just dreadful. Yesterday i went to the chemists and parked his pushchair in the corner out of the way and walked about 3 feet away from him to the counter (he could still see me) and as i walked away he went from perfectly happy, to screaming mess! He is like that a lot at the moment and it is very wearing!

compo · 21/06/2007 12:23

Hi everyone
Sorry to hear about poorly babies.
Mabel - not sure how long the clinginess lasts. Dd is only really clingy when she's tired or teething. It's quite odd really. She's absolutely fine at nursery when we hand her over in the morning. She only goes once a week at the moment so isn't there a lot and the staff do change. But if she hasn't seen a grandparent or a friend for a while when we hand her over she screams the place down at first until we take her back. Meanly I quite enjoy it when it happens to MIL

compo · 21/06/2007 12:24

I'm afraid i'm another Harry Potter addict. Not as much as dh - he will probably squirrel himself away to read it so no one ruins the storyline for him. I, on the other hand, will have to wait til he finishes it before it's my turn....

JingleBelle · 21/06/2007 13:46

Zmandaz - well done on your test and the weight loss. How crappy re. the £10 - I would say that it is basically stealing, as they have effectively said they received your cheque and lost it, so definitely worth writing to their HQ I would say.

Mabel - sorry to hear your LO is ill. DS was exactly the same with clinginess over the last week while he wasn't ill. I sat him with his toys in the lounge and then needed to pop into the kitchen to get his water - he immediately started sobbing and was crawling towards kitchen sobbing his heart out (v. unlike him and rather heartbreaking). Now he's better, he's back to his independent little self and more interested in seeking out new things than being worried where I am! Now I want to be at home with him, rather than here at work - . Hope DS is better soon - DS has come down with a bug a couple of times and on average it has taken him about a week to recover each time.

Marls - thanks for the recommendation on Britax Regent - will be looking into it this weekend. Hope your commission is going well.

Enjoy the rest of the day ladies - has turned rather grey here, so hope you are all having better weather (especially at Ascot, Bristols)!
