Hello...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Myrtle1 · 14/06/2007 19:11

Hi everyone, sorry I've not read through all the last posts - will come back later and do it but just wanted to quickly post for advice.
DS has started crawling and has now taken to rolling over in cot onto tummy and sitting up. He just does it over and over and won't go to sleep. He used to go down straightaway to sleep before he realised he could sit himself up and now he does it non-stop and we have to keep going back into his room to put him back on his back. What can I do to encourage him just to lay down and go to sleep!!!

HenriettaHippo · 14/06/2007 19:13

KK, don't worry about the bottle. DS1 had a bottle morning and evening until he was about 1 1/2, then had no trouble changing to those Avent green spout things. I haven't really thought about it with DS2, but he tends to spit out water from a cup, so I haven't tried milk in one either.

kreamkrackers · 14/06/2007 19:46

myrtle - you could buy one of those toys that shows pictures on the ceiling and plays a soothing tune.

zmandaz · 14/06/2007 19:48

Hi all, we have had such a busy two days! We had relatives over from California yesterday so we all went out for a meal. DD made so much noise it was embarrassing! We had a late night and she was so tired this morning. Then today we went to a Tropical World which is usually full of creatures to look at but we only saw one butterfly and no birds! We did see lots of fish though and a few interesting hairy creatures! We also had our photos done today (Cori - yes it was at Venture). It was really fun and I think there'll be some lovely shots but I am absolutely shocked at the prices The smallest picture starts at £220! It does come in a frame but really! I'd love to get a huge picture or a collection but as I'm saving up for a deposit on a house, I think that must take priority. It's a shame that they have to be so expensive really, they are only photos after all.

It's been pouring with rain all day today and I am soaked through. Am off to get some tea and a hot drink!

Thank you KK. I might bid on that one, it sounds good.
DS has finally fallen asleep after exhausting himself and crying loads but its taken an hour and a half!
SIL said to just let him sit up and play and not to keep going back in and putting him down as it will become a game to him. She said eventually he will lay down/topple over and fall asleep.

bristols · 14/06/2007 22:04

Hiya ladies. Had a fantastic holiday. Got back yesterday. Have tried to catch up with everyone.

OK then, time for the bombshell:someone mention broody?

Can't believe it. Haven't even gone back to work yet!

HenriettaHippo · 14/06/2007 22:07

Myrtle, I think I agree with your SIL. Fraser has started to do the same thing, at naps. He hasn't done it at night yet. When he goes down for a nap, I put him down in his grobag, say sleeptime now, night night (whatever time of day!), and leave quickly. If he chortles away after that, I usually go in once to lie him down, and then let him get on with it. I remember with DS1 he did the same, and it only lasts until they work out how to get from sitting to lying down, which doesn't take long! The other day, Fraser went to sleep sitting up, slept for 2 hours, and when I went to get him, he was still asleep, just plonked over onto his front! Very cute, but proves he can go to sleep on his own, and going in to keep lying him down actually just keeps on waking him up!!! It might take a few days to sink in, but not as long as teaching him that I won't keep on going back in if he sits up enough times....

That was a bit long, wasn't it. Sorry!! I'm actually just quite relieved it isn't just my baby!!!

HenriettaHippo · 14/06/2007 22:12

Bristols, wow!!! Congratulations!!! I'm grinning here - I just read the other thread so that's why it's taken this long for this message to appear... You'll be fine when DC2 comes along, you are an organised person from what I know about you, and from your previous posts you obviously have a very supportive and lovely DH. Well done my lovely!

MunkiBaby · 14/06/2007 22:15

WOWWWW congrats, bristols. ive been reading through your other thread and i agree with HH, you do have emotional support and mental support from all of us plus the other threads...

if i got prego again, i'd be in the same boat s you: no family..all are in california.
so i can understand you momentary fear. You know you will be alright. We know you will be alright.

its so lovely to hear.

MunkiBaby · 14/06/2007 22:16

oh gawww i was overly excited when typing that...so please ignore the typos~
congrats to you and you family.

bristols · 14/06/2007 22:18

Thanks HH and Munki. It's good to discuss it here because we won't be telling anyone else until after 12 weeks. It's a difficult secret to keep! Everyone's been so kind and I'm feeling much, much better about it all now.

MunkiBaby · 14/06/2007 22:19

bristols, are you still BF your lo?

kreamkrackers · 14/06/2007 22:21

bristol - congratulations . honestly it'll be hard work but you know what to do this time with the baby, i feel so much more relaxed with dd2. dd1 has the ability of a 12-18 month old, she loves her little sister and her little sister loves her too. they're so sweet together.

it will be very hard the first few weeks so make sure your dh pampers you and helps out, lack of sleep and an older child is hard work but honestly it's all worth it.

we don't get much help too but i feel like we are coping so well and i'm proud we haven't relied too strongly on other people. the hardest part will be the double buggy. i got a mama's and papas one but i wish i had a phil and teds.

MunkiBaby · 14/06/2007 22:29

oOOOo, yes, KK...even though i only have the one little baby dude, i've been browsing the latest options for double prams, plus a women in my playgroup has a P&T's...

from the looks of it, its well worth the price!

ohh goodness... listen to me, getting all ahead of myself and bristols pram needs! awww.

Bristols, i do hope that you will keep up updated on the checks, & updates throughout the pregnancy.

fairysnuff · 14/06/2007 23:29

Oh wow!
Can't believe you managed it whilst we were still on this thread title!

Congrats.
18 months will be ok, I am sure.
Feels mad, doesn't it, to think on having another baby whilst your DS is still so small.

I am sooo thinking and planning for my no2, so am really happy for you. As they said you are not far off your original plans anyway.
I have stopped taking the pill now and will let nature take it's course.

Defo want one of those phil and teds. They are fab aren't they?

MunkiBaby · 15/06/2007 07:40

ooOOOo fairy, perhaps we'll have to change the name of this thread in the next few months to say: Sept 200 babies, Sibling on the Way!

Sadly i'm weaning this week. however, i bought the tommee tippee bottles that have the odd "nipple" shape and feel a while ago and they are finally coming in handy. I've dropped to just 1 (ish) feed a day and using Hipp follow up. so far, i think i've done ok...i make the bottle, get out his feeding pillow, and hold him very close and cuddle him while giving him the bottle. he was a bit like, "What tha? Mom, who are you trying to kid?!?" at first. but now, he's taken to it very well. (((I think the cuddling part is most important for me, as i still get that time with baby dude.))

ANNNyyyywayyys, i'm on a rough agenda for the next year...since ds isnt really on boobie, i'm starting a very low cal diet program next week...and then after i get down to a reasonable , healthier BMI/weight, we're going to probably start trying, so maybe just after ds's 1st birthday.
i'm really looking forward to it.

but since fairy isnt on the pill any longer, i suspect we should be hearing of something in the next couple months! woohoo!

Coriander73 · 15/06/2007 07:47

well well well bristols me old lovely!!!! I knew you wouldn't be long!!! Many congratulations!! It'll be fine...good to have a small gap as we've spoken about before & second time round it'll be so much easier..honestly!!! You take everything much more in your stride, you'll see......just one thing...the BUGABOO has to go...trade it in for a Phil & Teds..!!

OP posts:
Grrrr · 15/06/2007 09:38

Congratulations bristols !

I have an 18 mth age gap between me and my brother (can't stand him but that's a different story). The children will be the right age to play together when the new baby is toddling so although it will be hard work with 2 in nappies it will get better.

bristols · 15/06/2007 09:43

Cori - was thinking the same thing myself, this morning. Don't think the bugaboo will have much use when the next one comes along. (That sounds soooo wierd!)

Am going to have to have a pram clearout. Am a bit of a pram whore and currently have the (beloved) Bugaboo, a Loola and a Maclaren. Don't even know where to start regarding selling them. I suppose I'll have to have a look into the whole ebay thing.

Seems as though the Phil and Ted's is the way to go then.

Was feeling quite brave by the time I went to bed last night but not so much now. Head still spinning. I suppose it'll take a while.

Off shopping in a while. Need to get some Folic acid and Decaff tea!

compo · 15/06/2007 11:36

congratualtions
Have posted on your other thread!
Come on girls... who's next ?

MunkiBaby · 15/06/2007 12:56

my money is on fairy.

bristols · 15/06/2007 13:31

Munki - No, not still bf.

I'll keep you up to date with everything, girls, don't worry about that!

It's strange, because I don't feel pregnant at all at the moment. Am feeling really well. Having said that, my sense of smell seems to have heightened some what. I was nearly retching in Tesco earlier at some of the body odours in there!! I remember that from last time.

Stocked up on my folic acid and decaff tea. Was just getting back into the full-caffeine tea again, too.

bristols · 15/06/2007 13:31

BTW, thanks for all your kind words x

teafortwoandtwofortea · 15/06/2007 15:24

Congratulations! You - will be fine, there's only 12 1/2 months between me and my older brother - my mum said it was hard work but great as we got older

Myrtle - I remember this stage with DS1 well, I'm afraid we found the only way to go was just to leave him to work out how to get down. DOn't worry about the sleeping on their back thing anymore - as soo as they can roll both ways well it's ok for them to sleep on their front or their side.

Sorry I've not been on as regularly ladies - been lurking and keeping tabs though, will do a proper post when I have time!

(welcome back to Mandaz btw - I used to be someone else too but remember you well, sorry all has not gone happily divorce-wise but it's really god to hear you're moving forward in your new life with G - sounds like a new job and house are just the ticket )
