Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tassis · 27/05/2007 19:39

Hello everyone!

Just tried to catch up with all the news. Can't believe all the chat of next stage car seats. Dd is still a wee thing so will no doubt be rear facing for a good few months yet!

We're just back from a fortnight in the South of France. It was so hot and lazy - we just lay by the pool or went to the beach day after day after day. Bliss! Dd isn't moving yet so was pretty happy to sit in her sun tent, or paddling pool or swim in the pool. She enjoyed french bread and her first tastes of ice cream. Also ate rather a lot of sand! Big brother adored the beach and pool and had a blast.

tassis · 27/05/2007 19:39

(oh and yes I'm broody, but have to say i still totally think of dd as a baby and plan to for a good few months yet!)

mrsharrypotter · 27/05/2007 21:38

Hello everyone, I had last weekend of work and it's been so busy these last 2 days that I've only just caught up! Warning, it's going to be a long one.

Tassis, I agree, I was broody for a bump when sil was pg but I've still got a baby so I don't want another one of those!

Fairy, dh and i have been discussing for 3 yrs who should be ds's gaurdian and we still haven't reached a decision (Dh doesn't want to offend anyone, I'm of the opinion, we'll be dead, who cares!)

kk, at your landlord and a 2nd reccomend for cranial osteopathy for a crying baby. Also, my 2 love to spend time at the local zoo, and as I've adopted an animal we get unrestricted access for a year.

Mabel, the devil wears prada was definatly better as a book. Well cooked egg is safe after 6 months. We're holding off giving it to dd till she is a year but only because ds is allergic to it.

HH, Elizabeth is going through the seperation anxiety stage aswell, and screams blue murder if I abandon her in her cot at night, she's fine if dh puts her down, but can't cope with me leaving her.

TFT, it's nice to hear from you again. try not to worry about development, they all deveop so differently at this age but they seem to catch up as they get older. Congrats on your baby Sophie. I'm sorry about your migraines, I'm back on a preventer and have rediscovered the joys of an afternoon snooze without the fear of getting one.

Mabel, LOL at paws!

Bristols, I'm calvemjoe, I hope ds's hip scan is ok.

Cori, hope your brain scan shows there is nothing to worry about. I'm a massive greys Anatomy fan. In fact, I only gave in to dh's constant whining for sky when i saw series 2 was starting on living. Unfortunatly I keep falling asleep at just gone 9 and missing all my programmes. Thank God for living+, I always wake up just before 11!

I love my Phil and Teds too, and i was even happier with it when i babysat for 2 week old Daisy-May the other day and Elizabeth was sat in the big girls seat!
As for car seats, I think ds has the same graco as hh's and dd is in ds's old maxicosi priory xp.

Ds has finally got over gis asthma flare up, although he's picked up another cold so I suppose he's going to have another. Elizabeth is amazing. She's such a good little girl and she's got a really sunny disposition. She's weaning really well and even guzzled liver the other day without pausing. She's still not crawling, but she is rolling everywhere and she still has 5 teeth. Every time ds sings pat-a-cake she claps along [bless her emoticon]

Sorry for the long post, take care x

mrsharrypotter · 27/05/2007 21:40

And I'm very sorry for all of the typos!

MunkiBaby · 28/05/2007 09:44

Good Morning ladies..Hope you all have something nice going on today, whether its just chilling at home with the family or going out. The next village over to ours is having a duck race at the waterfalls so i might take fynn over to that...given that the weather isnt so bad. like yesterday. ((i hear you all in the south reallly took a beating last night! )) anyways, the duck race sounds really cute and (dare i say it): quaint. hehehe. last time i took ds over to the falls, he was very intrigued by the currents of the water, not at all interested in the falls themselves. im sure he will be, in all due time.

Anyways, ds still has the goopy eye!! i have noticed that it gets particularly moist when we go outside on a nice, sunny day. and when he's in the stroller, that same eye tears up. the drops arent really changing anything, for the better or the worse. Im not a sufferer to allergies (yes im grateful), so i havent a clue if its possible that he could be allergic to something outside or in (cat hair, pollen, hayfever, etc??) ...and if you have allergies, are both eyes usually effected?

teafortwoandtwofortea · 28/05/2007 12:35

munki - DS1 had one goopy eye for ages when he was around the same age ours are now. Th GP said it was because their tearducts don't lways develop properly and they can get a bit blocked which causes to goop. He grew out of it by the time he was one. I'd have thought alleries would affect both eyes too, maybe you couldhave another chat with your gp if it doesn't clear up.

MHP - I know exactly what you mean re having a nap without fear! I had a lie in this morning while DS2 had his nap and DH occupied DS1 and no nasty consequences, my new (old) meds must be working

Flumpy - I'm with the others on going to see your GP about that leg, ought to be checked out before LO start weight bearing especially.

I'm off down my allotment today, got tomatoes and sweetcorn to plant ...and slugs to battle [TFT dons full armour and a box of pellets]

mrsharrypotter · 28/05/2007 17:44

Tft

Coriander73 · 28/05/2007 20:13

munki, J has sticky goopy eye...try one pint of water with one teaspoon of salt & wash each eye - one piece of cottonwool for each time you go across eye (probably stating the obvious here!!!)...has worked a treat for Jack!

Emprexia · 28/05/2007 23:15

Hi Sept 06 moms. not been around much lately.

I can't believe my munchkin is crawling!! Its like having a rocket around, and he's not just crawling, he's CRUISING!!!!

I can't stand and dry my hair these days, else i end up with an 8.5mo old baby clinging to my jeans because he's just climbed to his feet.

Is anyone elses LO at this stage, i'm sure he shouldn't be doing this yet!! Someone tell him to slow down!

MunkiBaby · 29/05/2007 07:22

hiya Kaishay, my ds has been crawling (albiet commando style) since march, and has recently learned to cruise along the furniture. i was a little concerned at first because being a first-time mum, i naturally went into worry wort mode and fretted that it was too early, yadda yadda yadda...but i quickly got over it and let him take his own lead. its hard not to encourage him for my own selfish reasons, of course! dont want our precious LO's growing up too fast, now do we?

Cori, thanks for the saltwater tip. will try it. and T4T, thank you as well.

how was everyones 3day??? ours was nice and quiet ...until yesterday. dh invited a couple friends and their 2 kids. then my SIL called and kinda hinted at wanting an invite as well. soooo she came around with her partner and 4 kids/babies plus her partners nephew. omg! i was sooooo exhausted when they left at 830pm. it wasnt nice having to mind hers PLUS take care of my ds and entertain guests at the same time. the good thing is that i have fields all around my house for them to run around in however, they managed to run through the fields and play out in the roads. i quickly caught on knowing i was fighting a losing battle and couldnt stay out there minding them, especially when they didnt listen.

glad its over. thanks for letting me vent..

ds and i woke up this morning with nasty, drippy noses and chesty coughs..sorry if thats TMI. heheh i guess the playgroup this morning is out of the question?

Myrtle1 · 29/05/2007 09:24

Munki - DS had a sticky eye for ages too and then we started bathing it with saltwater which I think worked but it coincided with a week long trip to the seaside so the salty air must have helped too I guess.

We have an annual duck race in the village next to us too

Well DS has had something called Fifth disease or slapped cheek syndrome. It was quite mild but he had a mild fever, bright red cheeks, lethargy and a rash on his body. I got it too and its broken out in a school in York apparently and now our neighbour's baby has it as well.

Coriander73 · 29/05/2007 10:37

J isn't crawling yet but made a definite bum up leg out ready to go position in the bath last night & then again this morning! All in good time Did you know that on the Aug 2006 thread they have a lady who is pg again?!!! Come on, we need someone to join them from this thread!!!! Ha ha ha

Here at work I'm stewing.........a very good friend of mine (who is also a work colleague on m/l) has just told me that work have agreed to let her come back on a 3 day week but to be reviewed in Sep. Whilst obviously I'm delighted for her I can't help but feel extremely frustrated & angry that I wasn't given the same. I can't really understand why....

OP posts:
compo · 29/05/2007 10:42

Blimey am I the only one who has never heard of a duck race?!!
I am ed at all the crawling and cruising babies. Dd has only just mastered the art of rolling on to er front and she still yells to be rolled over again. Had to get up about 4 times last night to roll her back despite her being in a grobag.
We had a lovely BH w/end despite the weather. Lots of yummy food and too much wine as always

compo · 29/05/2007 10:43

Cori - is the anyway way you can ask what the hell they're playing at/ If you're leaving anyway i would definitely try and get some answers.

Coriander73 · 29/05/2007 10:50

compo I've never heard of a duck race either! As for rolling, J doesn't roll, hates being on his tummy hence my complete surpirse yday when he seemed to get into position to launch himself fwd only to fall flat on his face..rather comical despite the tears

As for work, yes I'm planning a meeting with HR - doesn't mean I'm staying or anything but just cannot cannot understand their refusal to allow me yet agree to my friend.

OP posts:
mabel1973 · 29/05/2007 11:24

hi all just a quicky - i seem to be struggling to keep and don't get on very often.

Cori am so sorry about your work, you definately need to find out why they consider your friends situation to be any different to yours. seems very unfair..

DS2 is going through a real clingy faze. it is starting to get to me actually, because he won't be put down, the stupid thing is he'll be playing quite happily, or be held by someone else, but as soon as he spots me, it's as if he suddenly realises he's not with me and starts whingeing to come to me, he seems to be constantly moaning at the moment, which is quite wearing! He even does it with DH, he'll have him while i go in the shower in the monmring, and as soon as i re-appear in the bedroom , he starts crying and looking at me with such a desparate expression on his face! I am assuming (hoping) this is a developmental phase????!

Our bank holiday was good, we went to a place called Papplewick Pumping station, it is a water pumping station run by steam from the victorian era, DS1 was enthralled and they also had a minature steam engine and lots of other things to do, so a good day out, but soooo cold!!!

Coriander73 · 29/05/2007 11:34

mabel FWIW J has been a lot like that recently...I think it's partly due to his teething / sticky eye general poopiness! Very different from DD....! my MIL, who is staying for a couple of days, said he was very different to DD & that he seemed to be more clingy & need more cuddles & reassurance...is that a boy thing?!

OP posts:
Coriander73 · 29/05/2007 11:41

Forgot to add that they supposedly go through this phase circa 7/8 months...I guess just time & patience? It is wearing, esp in our house as we're just not used to it as DD was miss independant from pretty much the word go.

Where's Papplewick then? Sounds like a good day out! DH had to work yday so MIL the children & I went out for lunch (smart pizza place along the lines of pizza express ish..smarter then pizza hut wouldn't you say?!!) watched J munch 2 bits of pizza & then MIL treated me to 5 new tops for my birthday (which is on Sat!) I felt really spolit esp as she'd paid for my gym sessions etc but she was adament that I needed new tops & she was buying them all!! I didn't need convincing twice..am wearing two today

OP posts:
Myrtle1 · 29/05/2007 11:42

Hi,
Has anyone also noticed that their Lo's are sleeping more during the day? DS isn't crawling but he is trying very hard and can move in a circle and bottom shuffles a lot so I wondered if he is wearing himself out a bit with all the effort??

Cori- I hope you get some answers from work. When do you finish?

DS has some more teeth now, 3 are coming through all at the same time (top two and a third on the bottom)

Myrtle1 · 29/05/2007 11:44

Forgot to say how much he is sleeping. He'll wake at 7:30 then be up for about 2 hours and then have about an hour and a half sleep then another sleep at about lunchtime for an hour ish.

mabel1973 · 29/05/2007 12:15

Cori i think boys do tend to need more cuddles / reassurance, having no experience with girls, i couldn't say for sure, but based on what other people have said to me that seems to be the case.

Papplewick is north notts, only about 5 minutes from our house.
Your MIL sounds V generous! lucky you, sounds like you had a good day anyway...happy birthday for sat, take it your will be joining me and be 34 too??!

Myrtle - that amount of sleep sounds normal to me, although i think they do get v. tired once they start moving around. DS wakes at 7am and has a nap at 9 for an hour, then another nap after his lunch about 12ish for 2 hours then bed at 7pm.
My DS sounds like he is at about the same stage as yours, he is 'tummy surfing' so he gets to where he wants to, but hasn't mastered bringing his knees under yet. He will pull himself up though, although is a bit unsteady once he gets up!

Myrtle1 · 29/05/2007 12:20

Thanks Mabel. He used to sleep this much but then went through a phase for a month or 2 of only having 2 30-45 mins naps a day. H emust be back in his old routine again. He has also started waking for a feed at 11pmish again after having dropped this. I'm not sure whether I should do cc or get up and give him a bottle. So far I've been getting him a bottle and then when he wakes at 5am I've been getting him a bottle then too.

Coriander73 · 29/05/2007 12:21

yep 34.......!!!!!!!

OP posts:
MunkiBaby · 29/05/2007 13:28

Cori - RE: Aug 2006 thread/Pg already! ok ok. so i've been reluctant to mention it here as nothing has been properly decided...
however, we've been batting around the idea of trying for another LO soon. or, starting again in the near future. we both like the idea of having them kinda close in age. But i think, at the same time, we're both a little scared to set it in stone. Only time will tell!

so on that note, quick 'poll' for those of you with more than one children...
how close in age are your LO's?

tassis · 29/05/2007 13:34

MrsHP - Elizabeth sounds adorable!

Munki - how were the ducks? Hope you wee ones eye's better soon and you're feeling OK.

Myrtle - our naps are pretty similar here...big news is that dd is finally (more often than not for the past 3 weeks or so with only a minor blip when we got home from France)sleeping around 12 hours at night. Woohoo! Long may it continue!

Cori - rubbish about your work.

Wow at all the cruisers and crawlers!! Lucy's started shuffling a bit but slowly and not covering much ground. Had a bad moment while I popped her at the top of the stairs between her room and the bathroom while the bath was running (as I've done for the past 8 months) and she fell down a step. Thankfully we only have one step and then a landing because if we had a straight flight she couldn've been right down. I felt awful and stairgates will be going up very soon!
