I was brave and started a new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
babypowder · 03/06/2007 20:41

And, I know I'm being thick, but what's a doidy cup?

Indith · 03/06/2007 21:01

Mmmm fire, fab. I am such a pyromaniac! Made fire with Rainbows the other week. The Brownies had it too and was still burning when i got back for Guides. Us leaders kind of ignored the girls a while and toasted marshmallows til we felt sick

My wardrobes are in a similar state BP!

doidy cup

Yeah I think my use of slings (and non-use of the mothercare carrier bil bought us), addiction to cloth nappies, desire to BLW, refusal to use all the cheap and nasty SLS and paraben stuffed baby bath stuff she bought us coupled with the recent putting my foot down and eliminating chemicals in general from my home (now use eco balls, white vinegar and tea tree for most things!) def qualifies me as odd in her eyes. And demanding I think, you know in that way that you doing something that is not considered to be the norm is demanding? 'you can't have everything' is a phrase I hear quite a lot from her!

accessorizewithbabysick · 03/06/2007 21:32

bp, sorry about your goose egg, that sounds v.painful indeed! sacha, sorry bout the sleep, yes I would think if he's feeding 2 hourly during the day that'd be enough for him! I figure that's how ds2 gets through the night, feeding hourly much of the day.

Very busy lives you all lead, we made it to the playground this morning for ds1 and that was the highlight of the weekend

LOL at sticking lo's in the pram at the bottom of the garden, exactly what my mil's dp says every time a baby cries (so 3 and a half years of that now, grrrr). AND he quotes sodding supernanny to me every time. Indith, I know I have been naughty and not waited until the decreed 6 months but managed some blw today. Gave ds2 some sticks of roasted parsnip and carrot and he was as happy as larry, held onto them really well and sucked the life out of them. It was so much easier, wish I hadn't bothered spooning parsnip puree into him 10 minutes previously durr. Tried to get ds1 to have some on the basis that 'if a baby can', but he wasn't having it.

GlassSlipper · 03/06/2007 21:50

Probably goes against all guidelines but my DD had a a bit of custard from my bowl tonight and was in heaven. Ended up covered so I'm not sure how much she actually ate but very happy

accessorizewithbabysick · 03/06/2007 21:58

He'll have it soon enough! DP gave ds2 a bit of honey bread today, I started to go ballistic but there seemed little point - he won't be doing it again!

Elibean · 03/06/2007 22:23

I like odd and slightly unreasonable hippies

BP, ouch, ouch, ouch. Sympathy and cold compresses and paracetamol and a large hug.

dd2 ate - yes, ate, she's learnt to swallow at last! - some avocado, some porridgy stuff with banana mashed in, and some fruity mush. I love the idea of BLW, as in less hassle (not hippy-founded, just lazy-founded) but sadly this LO is a choker and not yet up to bits. I tried, and she chokes and sicks up every single time. Her sister, who is preBLW, would have cracked it in one, but oh well.

Lets see what happens during the night now...sleep like a well fed log, or fart herself into wakefulness ten times over...

Good sleeps, all

weirdbird · 03/06/2007 22:27

"waves hello"

Hello everyone, sorry went AWOL for a bit, everything just got to much, and not enough hours in the day, can someone summarise have I missed anything important?

Hannah is 5 months today and doing well as am I, how are people?

magnolia1 · 03/06/2007 22:32

Hiya Wb xxxxx

Bp, ouch to your head but happy birthday for yesterday xxx

Ds1 is still feeding all the time and 2-3hrly at night

Solids galore too, he is never full. Gonna be a big boy like his dad

Having our kitchen ripped out and re done tomorrow!!!!

No water, no washing machine, no cooker, nothing
Only for a bit and then a glorious new kitchen so it will be worth it

jabberwocky · 04/06/2007 03:48

WB, so funny that you showed up as I was just wondering about you

I really do mean to do blw but I did throw some sweet potatoes in the food processor and ds2 loved them. Followed a few days later with pears and another success! So different from ds1

Will do proper post soon I promise.

hope everyone is well.

castlesintheair · 04/06/2007 10:32

Glad the feeding is going a bit better now Eli.

Is it only us with "reflux babies" (Magnolia, Elibean and me - anyone else?) that don't like to sleep at night? Not that mine sleeps much in the day either. DD2 wakes up every couple of hours as well Magnolia. Do you think she's in pain and needs another medication? The GP isn't really interested as she's gaining weight & so active etc. She's already on gaviscon & ranitadine. It's really puzzling me because as soon as we got DD1 on meds her reflux was completely unnoticeable. Any advice please to one desperately tired woman

babypowder · 04/06/2007 11:59

Indith, have now ordered doidy cup - thanks for the link! We are clearly in the same hippy camp, as we are chemical free, organic gardeners, real nappies, freecycle, charity shoppers, ... drives my parents insane! I have to decant my normal cleaning solution of tea tree and water into Flash containers whenever they come over so that my mum feels that I'm really cleaning

weirdbird · 04/06/2007 12:13

Afternoon all, just back from the first session of toddler group that I am now running, lots of friends came along to support us but no new mums, but would have been suprised first week if we had had any.

Am now running 2 NCT groups a week, I feel this may not have been the smartest move ever, but will appreciate the toddler group in 6 months when Hannah is to big for Bumps and Babes and at least she will have some friends her own age.

Am not having any issues with the refluz at night, but both of mine are very deep sleepers (like me! huzzah) but I am having issues now she is teething as she wants to chew on everything, she makes herself choke by shoving things too far back including her hands and then next thing I know she is throwing up.

jabberwocky · 04/06/2007 14:48

Well as far as sleep goes, we really had a hard time of it until a couple of weeks ago. Then dh took over nights for a long weekend. Ds2 quickly decided that daddy and a bottle of formula were not worth waking up for every 1 to 2 hours and his boobaholic status was reformed! Last night was his best yet sleeping from 7:45 to 3:15 am and waking for a very quick feed and settling just as quickly. Much different from the one to two hour wakings we were doing before! I do also wonder if solids actually have helped him even tho they did not help ds1. Last night he ate a bit more since we did the pears as well

Indith · 04/06/2007 17:41

Oh good glad to know I've some company in my camp!

Yay for sleep Jabber!

WB you are crazy! But very true that it will be nice to know lots of little people her age.

Baby boys should not play with their bits and wee at the same time when you have just taken their nappy off for some pre-bath kick about time. It just misses the terry you so carefully put their bum on and gets messy.

SachaF · 04/06/2007 17:55

Jabber I like your night plan, in fact I suggested something similar to dh this morning for when he has a quiet(er) spell at work - not something I can ask him to do after 12/13hour work days!
Back to four hourly at night (almost) - 10.30/2.30/6am/8am - if only he'd stayed awake a little longer at 2.30 to take the other side - I tried blowing on his face, putting his hands in water, putting him down on the floor - never used to have this problem with feeds! (but then they used to be over an hour whereas now they are more like 20/30 mins - can't have it all).
Indith you paint a lovely picture.
Well I never knew I was half a hippy (cloth nappies, intending to do blw, not as far as vinegar for cleaning but ecover) - maybe I'm a wannabe - when I trained as an accountant I was told that that was that - I was forever a capitalist!
Eli, how was the night, "...sleep like a well fed log, or fart herself into wakefulness ten times over..."?

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 04/06/2007 19:15

nice to see you back wb

weirdbird · 04/06/2007 21:28

Hello Margo "waves"

(Am I allowed to say it always makes me think of the Good Life?)

accessorizewithbabysick · 04/06/2007 21:41

I'm half a hippy too Sacha, and a recent one at that. Feeds sound very tiresome and tiring for you.
I lurrrve the good life, one of my all time favourites.
Jabber, that's great re: the sleep! How's the poo! My dad issued me with lots of instructions about stuff, all of which I have forgotten again and we're out of medication anyway. Trying not to get cross, but arggggh more poo!
Castles, was about to email you to see how things were going, but sadly very clear things haven't improved Hope you get some answers/help/sleep soon hugs

accessorizewithbabysick · 04/06/2007 21:42

ahhh, that was ((hugs))

babypowder · 04/06/2007 22:26

Big sleep vibes to everyone who needs them tonight. DD2 managed to sleep 10:30 - 4:30 yesterday - her first long sleep for a while. This from a baby who was sleeping through at 16 weeks!

Elibean · 04/06/2007 22:47

Urgh, must go to bed - jsut a flying wave from me and the sleepless monster

Thanks for sleep vibes, and Sacha...twas a mixture of logs and farts. She only woke up once, at about 12.30, but wasn't hungry and then - first time ever - wanted to play . HV would have been proud of me, I was so boringly uninterested in playing. Patted and shushed and eventually she fed (1.30am) and went to sleep till 6am. And that was that.

BUT she has napped very well today, is eating solids like a Proper Nearly Seven Month Old and is in an excellent mood. Unlike dd1, who is tearful, cross, and generally feeling pissed off about sharing her Mum with an increasingly mobile little sister. Found myself with both of them crying, an arm round each, sat on my bed, at 8pm saying 'what are we going to do, girls? Its not easy sharing a Mummy, but thats what we've all got to work out'. Amazingly, dd1 then put her arm round dd2 and stroked her ear, and she went to sleep

Castles, wish I knew the answer...did go and see HV today, who basically went over the sleep basics (put into cot awake, etc etc) and thought things might improve when dd in her own room. Which will be from tomorrow, probably She also thought teething was part of the problem, though I think dd's guts are adjusting to solids so it takes a long time to settle her, but she's sleeping longer hours now.

As for reflux, my HV and GP are fairly hopeless on that - so I'm none the wiser

You sound as tired as me, with more reason. Wishing you and everyone else a good night's kip!

Elibean · 04/06/2007 22:49

WB, nice to see you

accessorizewithbabysick · 04/06/2007 22:51

Hope you get a good night eli must go to bed myself now, I can't stay off the mac tonight!

weirdbird · 04/06/2007 23:05

Hi Eli, nice to "see" you too.

Hope everyone has a good nights sleep I am up late working and dreaming of bed

jabberwocky · 05/06/2007 01:05

fingers crossed for you eli

AQ, poos are going better finally! He only had a teeny accident today but things are so nuch better than a month ago.

Do you still have him on laxatives? We didn't give ds1 as much as the dr. rec as it just seemed to be overkill. I obsessively watched his poo and adjusted meds accordingly ( sorry if tmi!)
