Dd is the same, cycles of feed, nappy & sleep. If she's awake its because her bum needs changing or she's hungry, no happy awake time yet. We had a friend over most of the day, she fed so much that I felt bad being out the room the whole time & didn't nap. Now she's feeding and I'm praying it knocks her out long enough to get some sleep myself Sad

SophieGiroux · 31/10/2017 01:03

Seriously sleep deprived here too. The first two weeks were amazing, she even managed a 6 hr stretch and there were times I needed to wake her to feed.
Typically now DP is back to work she just will not settle! Constantly on boob even though there can't be anything left. Tempted to use dummy but you're supposed to wait until they are a month old so feeding established.

She's just unlatched herself now finally but I know she won't last 5 min if I put her in cot. I have a headache from crying so much. Just remember how awful it was with DD1 and really thought it might be different this time. Wishful thinking!

PingusMistress · 31/10/2017 01:24

Sleep? Remind me what that is again? DH has a cold and was complaining that he couldn’t sleep, I nearly decked him.

I’d not heard about folding the nappy flap at the back. I never did with DD. Off to google that! We’ve also had wee up the back a lot but less with pampers. I like the term “freedom pee”! DS doesn’t always do one so it feels a bit like Russian roulette every change.

Has anyone else developed a bit of “nappy rash” themselves? I think it must be from wearing maternity pads all the time.

Bobbiepin · 31/10/2017 04:02

I take back what I said about cycles including sleep. Don't know what's up with DD tonight but nothing seems to help her drift off. She's has 20 minutes off the breast in the last 3 hours and that was for three nappy changes. Surely there is nothing left on them. DH (who is usually calm as anything) was so frustrated when he gave her to me at half 1, she'd not slept a wink since I went to bed at half 11 and he'd had to rock her constantly. She feeds to sleep but then wakes up as soon as she's off the breast.

TheLegendOfBeans · 31/10/2017 06:01

Snap bobbiepin.

I’ve not got half a clue what’s up with DS but we have basically been up since 00:40 with brief respite before waking again.

The worst part is when he’s up after 5am and is waking for food or unsettled it then wakes DD meaning the whole house is now up at 5.

FFS.

Bobbiepin · 31/10/2017 06:28

Big hugs @legend. DD ia my first so at least we don't have that problem. She eventually fell asleep on me at 4am, i didn't move for 30 mins to make sure she was properly asleep. She's let me get an hour and a half before another nappy change & feed. Hopefully she'll sleep again after this. I really hope you've had some sleep tonight

TheLionQueen1 · 31/10/2017 06:44

I gave baby a bottle last night after spending all day on my boobs, literally every hour max and he slept through from 12-4 then had just woken again for a feed, my boobs are rock hard this morning though. Feel bad but we both slept much better!

My DS has now peed on me, my mum and DH, trick is to leave a wet wipe over it until nappy goes on now!

@SophieGiroux I'm using a dummy as often it's just the suckling he wants, I started when in hospital, having said I wouldn't use one, the MW suggested it!

TippetyTapWriter · 31/10/2017 07:16

I also gave a bottle last night after dd had literally been feeding all night long again with only short naps on my chest. She falls asleep on the boob but wakes and starts rooting then crying the minute I move her to wind her or put her down or even hand her to dh to sleep on him. Gave the bottle at 3.30am and she's just woken now at 7 (and is back on me).

I really am glad I'm trying to bf but it's not exactly making itself easy.

Hope everyone manages to get some rest today. It's got to get easier soon!

How's everyone with an older child coping? Dh basically looks after ds and I look after dd. I miss my son so much though it's crazy! Yes we're in the house together but dd is always on me so I can't get down to the floor and play with him. And because of the section I can't pick him up for a cuddle or take him out in the pram to the park etc. He's being so amazing about it all, but I feel so guilty!

TippetyTapWriter · 31/10/2017 08:05

Dh just corrected me, it was 5am we gave the bottle. But still 2hrs sleep, amazing.

SophieGiroux · 31/10/2017 12:26

My DP keeps saying we should give a bottle of formula at night so he can help but I just don't know if it will mess everything up, maybe she's feeding lots just to get mum supply up?

Interesting the midwife recommended the dummy. I've got the health visitor coming round for the first time this afternoon. Think I'll see what she says. Paranoid I'm going to end up crying and get labelled with post natal depression.

Happy Halloween from Dexter Grin who was sick on his costume about 2 minutes later

Superb picture @GimbleInTheWabe ! How did you get him to pose like that?!

Happy Halloween from me and Lewis too, who is a lot less photogenic and more interested in eating his costume.

Aww these outfits are so cute!! Happy Halloween from my grumpy man!

GimbleInTheWabe · 31/10/2017 21:33

I think he was working up a poo ha! he generally does his ‘blue steel’ face before we hear a rumble down below so it was just good timing really.

Lewis looks v cute if a little peckish haha love the big hat.

Has anyone been reading a good baby book? I just bought ‘the wonder weeks’ so am going to give it a whirl.

GimbleInTheWabe · 31/10/2017 21:34

Ahhh pumpkin baby!! Love it @TheLionQueen1 !

PingusMistress · 01/11/2017 02:52

Super cute @TheLionQueen1 !

I’m coming down with DHs stinking cold, I feel even more rotten than usual waking up to do night feeds. NHS website says to avoid most cold remedies when bf of course Sad. I’m really worried about baby getting it though, I don’t know how his little 10 day old body would cope.

GimbleInTheWabe · 01/11/2017 03:05

I’m up feeding too @PingusMistress. Dex just cried all through having his nappy changed and is now resting in my boob, post-guzzle, to help the milk settle. And I’m trying not to fall asleep Halloween Blush

I think your breast milk remains pretty clean before infection is spread that way, it’s more likely a cough or dirty hands will spread a cold.

TippetyTapWriter · 01/11/2017 09:00

Loving the costumes. But sympathies on the cold pingu, that's the last thing you need. Hopefully there's something you can take. I'm sure paracetamol probably says to seek advice if breastfeeding but it's fine to take as that's what they give post c section (and ibuprofen). That with some hot honey and lemon to drink might help?

Bobbiepin · 01/11/2017 11:51

Hey girls, I need a hand hold today please. I think the baby blues have kicked in and my gorgeous nappy/feed/sleep baby has disappeared. She's getting such bad gas that she can't sleep after a feed and takes a lifetime to settle. I had her sleeping on me, sitting up on the sofa with a dummy so i've had practically no sleep. She doesn't seem to be able to poo without feeding which makes it even harder to settle as she needs changing after a feed. I just don't know what to do Sad

GimbleInTheWabe · 01/11/2017 11:57

Sorry you’re feeling down @Bobbiepin. Could you pop her in the sling and go for a walk? I find getting out the house always makes me feel so much better and the fresh air is good for baby too.
I found feeding Dex lying down with us both on our sides has helped his wind as he’s forced to feed slower (although I have to be so careful not to fall asleep like this at night!) so maybe give it a try?
Does she struggle with her poo like wriggling around and kicking her legs?

Bobbiepin · 01/11/2017 12:18

Yeah poo is a real problem at the moment, unless she's feeding when she'll poo/fart big time within a minute. I've tried winding her, bicycle legs, manual release technique nothing seems to work.

We've got my dad coming round soon so as much as I would love to go for a walk its just not gonna happen yet. I'll give lying down feeding a go. I struggled to get her to latch like that in the hospital but we're both getting better at that, i'll try anything at this point!

Bobbiepin · 01/11/2017 12:18

Thank you @gimble x

TheLegendOfBeans · 01/11/2017 12:25

Hello @bobbiepin

Quick one but have you tried pressing/rubbing soles of her feet with your thumbs? It worded for me when DD was bunged up early days x

Bobbiepin · 01/11/2017 15:39

@legend I have not but I will start now! Would it help her finish a nappy? Just had 3 poos in 30 mins because we think she's done and we do bicycle legs for a few minutes but she's never finished!! She did manage to get 2 of those 3 poos out before a feed which is much better than last night.

TheLegendOfBeans · 01/11/2017 15:42

I recall the foot rub having the same effect as squeezing a tube of primula out.

Ongoing yet weirdly contained...
