@Abacha I'm so sorry for all you've been through.

I'm quite strongly passionate about people keeping their noses out and opinions to themselves when it comes to pregnancy and babies. Everyone is doing the best they can and you never fully know someone's story so you never know how your stupid comment 'advice' will affect someone.

Grrrr. Please ignore them or tell them 'thank you for your comment but I'm doing things my way'.

NameChange30 · 08/09/2017 09:50

Abacha
I am so sorry for your loss. I'm even more sorry that you blamed yourself. It wasn't your fault and I hope everyone has told you that. I have read that babies can't suffocate when breastfeeding. I think in a lot of cases SIDS is unexplained.

Hugh
"when she put her dd into her own room, she went from 2 hourly night feeds to 1 night waking."
Amazing! Yes it probably is worth a try in case that miraculously happens to us as well! On holiday the cot will be in a separate room (no space for it in the double room) so it will be an interesting experiment...

Abacha
I bought a doidy cup on my weaning shopping spree the other day, and DH has tried it... apparently DS likes it but hasn't mastered drinking from it yet!
I also bought a 5-pack of Vital Baby weaning spoons, they were on offer in Boots, and seem quite good.

coupester
Thank you, fingers crossed!

MotherofA · 08/09/2017 10:12

Oh Abacha so so sorry for your loss Flowers

Thanks Hugh I'll bear that in mind as I think a friend is giving me a pram suit .

The "regular" stuff I weaned on was veg boiled and blended . I got a free book from boots store , ifs an Ella's kitchen book and that basically answers all questions. It was great for refreshing my memory . Remember they look like they don't like everything at first when they try because they've never eaten before . Jo Frost says it can take a baby 9 times of trying something to like it .

Good luck all of you who are starting weaning !

MotherofA · 08/09/2017 10:12

Carol sorry to hear about your rough night with DD . I hope you get some sleep today .

purpleviolet1 · 08/09/2017 10:14

@Abacha I am so very sorry to hear that, words can't really touch on what you went through. Please don't blame yourself, it wasn't your fault.

As for people giving unfriendly advice they just need to butt out. I'm trying to use the line 'thankfully, we are all different' when being told what to do. Not managed to say it yet

@NameChange30 Sorry to hear you had a bad night. I must say you sound cheerful!

I feel absolutely shattered today. We had a similar night although I fed him at 10.30pm instead. He still woke at the same times so does just seem to be a habit thing. Only went in once during the night. I think I just need to switch off and sleep myself. Still in my pyjamas and have decided am just going to stay home today. My mum is going to pop in later so that'll break the day up. Dh is out tonight and I think I'll go to bed at 8pm!

Ah sorry you did too Name . I hope you resolve this soon for all your sakes . I think the cot in the separate room on holiday will help . It did with my lo. Perhaps sometime you could leave DH for a few hours with lo as when he gets hungry and has no other option he should in theory take the bottle ?If you could get him on to bottles then you could probably get him to sleep better ?
Not sure what else to suggest .

@abacha, so sorry for your loss but please dont blame yourself, bf a baby is natural and wouldnt have been the cause of his death, sids is very sad and often cause unknown :(

yes i have heard that babies smell the mums milk if bf and settle/sleep better in a different room

Abacha · 08/09/2017 11:48

Thanks everyone. The support here has been amazing, I just wish I knew about it in the earlier months.

Babies are both napping, so going to an online order and go for a nap myself. I really wish they will start sleeping through the night.

Carolann8584 · 08/09/2017 12:07

DD had a 2 and a half hour nap this morning! I joined her for a bit Smile

Woke her for her next feed thought she would down her bottle no problem. 3oz again Hmm

NameChange30 · 08/09/2017 12:22

Yes I was feeling weirdly cheerful this morning given the terrible night... it was good to have DH's help in the night (even though DS still wanted milk Sad) and he's now off work for the next 10 days so it's a relief to know I will get a bit of a break. Plus he said DS took some milk from the bottle this morning without too much resistance!! First time in ages, hope it continues.
Having said that I usually feel more exhausted and dejected as the day goes on, and today is going to be tough because of having to muster the energy to pack (I hate packing!) Mustn't complain though as it should hopefully be worth it when we get there!

Sorry you're feeling so tired btw, I guess it will take a while to adjust and give yourself permission to sleep through when DS stirs! Glad your mum is visiting today, hope she can help out while you relax a bit.

Mother
Thank you. I think you're right and if I just leave DS with DH he will have no choice but to take the bottle. I wonder if DH could do one night while I sleep in a separate building room... that would be amazing! Although I would no doubt not be able to sleep for worry about DS screaming all night!

MotherofA · 08/09/2017 12:24

Ah you will get there Abacha . Getting a night time routine must be so hard with two . It spins my head just imagining it !

Carol ahhhh bless her that's great .

I froze some cubes of food and couldn't get the lid off for love nor money so have had to use an Ella's kitchen this lunch 🤣

Carolann8584 · 08/09/2017 19:03

How's everyone's day been? After a slow(sleepy) start DD has done well with her afternoon feeds and nap. After the whopper of a nap this morning no surprises she only needed half an hour this afternoon. Had a full 7oz after bath and is now snoozing away. Less crying/fussing than the previous 2 nights of no rocking just lullabies and heartbeat noise routine. Settled in less than half the time tonight. Grin

name how's the packing going? DS given you a bit more of a break taking the bottle?

abacha sorry to hear about your loss, so happy you have your lovely rainbow babies. I have DTB they are a handful but I remember how lovely it was watching them interact with each other and have their twin-speak. Plus they always have someone to play with Grin

mother you made me lol!

purpleviolet1 · 08/09/2017 19:20

We've had an ok day just at home today. DS been very slightly grumpy 😡. Noticed the reflux has flared a little with him taking solids. I'm feeling rubbish, grumpy myself and fed up. Probably just exhausted. I always feel negative when I'm tired.

Someone tell me does it get easier at the 6 month stage?

💐purple you're doing great 💐

purpleviolet1 · 08/09/2017 20:14

Bless you carol xxx

How's DDs voice been this afternoon? Great that she settled quickly!

Carolann8584 · 08/09/2017 20:37

Hasn't stopped her singing so it can't be as painful as it sounds. Doesn't stop her flashing her biggest smiles

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/09/2017 20:58

Awwww what a cutie

We went to an old people's home. My friend works there and says they love young guests

Dd was in her element. Got lots of cuddles and have lots of smiles which all the golden oldies loved

troodiedoo · 08/09/2017 22:21

She looks happy @carol melts your heart when they smile.

We've had a very lazy day as I still feel awful although more human than yesterday.

That's so lovely @blondes. When we go to church all the old ladies love dd.

Carolann8584 · 08/09/2017 22:36

DD hasn't woken up all evening. Had to keep checking her as she normally has a moan if she looses her dummy but she spat it out around 7 and has bothered with it since.

It's amazing. We spend so long trying to get them to sleep and I don't know about you but I miss her when she does lol
