I left DD to settle herself. I last looked at the clock at 2:10 Then woke when she moaned at 5:20 For her dummy she went back to sleep until 6:20 just given her a 6oz bottle but she only had her usual 3oz. Porridge at 8 will fill her up

purpleviolet1 · 16/09/2017 08:11

I've stored the Moses basket and any other things we are growing out of at my parents, luckily they have the space...

Well done Carol, your dd is doing well with the nights!

How does everyone cope with the mess of weaning?! Just tried DS on some baby porridge and he kept trying to put his hands in his mouth when he had a mouthful of porridge! The mess actually stressed me out Sad

Carolann8584 · 16/09/2017 11:04

Give him another spoon to hold Grin

purpleviolet1 · 16/09/2017 11:09

Coupester I found ds got better at eating after about a week. The mess is less now! He still does try to put his hands in sometimes...

How much daytime sleep are the LO's getting if they are sleeping through the night?

OP posts:
Carolann8584 · 16/09/2017 11:32

DD has 45 in the morning and 1.5-2 hours from about 1:30ish. She doesn't nap after her 3:30 feed til bed

100yearsdotcom · 16/09/2017 13:59

Half birthday here and DD is celebrating by refusing to nap! Hmm we've been getting her used to her cot from early on with daytime naps and early evening, and this week we've been letting her sleep in there till 11pm when we change her nappy give her a feed and transfer to crib for the rest of the night. We're gonna put her in her cot in the nights from early next month cos we've got too much going on for the rest of the month to be able to be consistent.

Weaning started yesterday - I can't be doing with the mess either, mainly cos I'm shattered and it's just one more thing to have to deal with compared to the ease of boob! I just give her a spoon but that doesn't really help when I'm giving her finger foods. Amazed at her though, she's taking to it more quickly than I thought she would, had just under quarter of an avocado today!

100yearsdotcom · 16/09/2017 14:54

DD sleeps between 1.5-2 hours in day over 2-3 naps then will be asleep between 8 & 8.30pm, wakes at 11pm for a feed then usually sleeps till between 5 &7am wakes for a feed then up at 8am. I'm happy to continue with night/morning feeds as I want to preserve my supply but expect that as weaning establishes these will probably drop off/move closer to wake up time.

Carolann8584 · 16/09/2017 19:07

Couple of questions.

For those doing 4 hour feeds when do you do them? I seem to be 1 short.

7, 11, 3, 6 bedtime feed

She has a df 10/11

Porridge at 8 and veg at 4

Also I have a lullaby I play off YouTube do you know of any baby toy/teddy that can record this so I can just switch it on and leave coz I know she will fall asleep to it but am currently staying with her til she sleeps so I can take my phone with me.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2017 19:56

happy half birthday @purple

moses basket i sold on my local fb selling site

generally if wake i would try sand resettle but if after 10/15m i would offer milk, sometimes they are extra hungry after a busy day/growth spurt etc, if it kept happening then offer water

dd has 8 at 730ish, 5oz 11am tho do9esnt always want it, 6/7ox 3ish and 7/8ox 6/630pm befor4e bed

@coup, yep weaning is messy, i have pack of wipes i use, tho tbh week or so once started, dd reliesed opening mouth meant food and is quite neat now - has been on 3 meals a day since 17/18w and now 24, so 6/7w of weaning

@purple, dd usually has 3/4hrs a day - 9/10 - 1/230 and 4/5 as a rouigh guide and ready for bed 7, tonight was 6.20pm and will sleep till always 7.30 when i wake her

@carolann, why do you think you are a feed short, we do same as you 730 11 3 6/630 tho no df she stopped that at 17w

Carolann8584 · 16/09/2017 20:11

blondes so far today she's had 18oz over 4 feeds she normally has the full 6oz for her DF that will only take her to 24oz. If she doesn't have her DF then she would only have 4 feeds which doesn't seem a lot

She certainly turning into a lovely chubby baby. Getting her weighed on Wednesday as she will be 6 months next Saturday.

purpleviolet1 · 16/09/2017 20:29

Thanks Blondes, not sure whether adding dream feed in is any real value as hopefully he will sleep the 7-7. He was feeding at 5am for a while and now back to 2am-ish so hoping its just a phase. If gets back to 5am soon then hopefully he will just push out.

If I add dream feed in I will prob be in scenario where he has dream feed and night feed, then he may drop night feed and then I'll prob need to work on dropping dream feed so he increases solid intake. Am I thinking of this correctly?

Ds has had 25oz in total since midnight (first feed was 6am) which is more than he has been having before Grin before he was averaging 21 sometimes 23.

Carol I bought a lullaby bear by Chicco it has star lights and plays soothing music but you can't record on it . Do you have an iPad or any other device you could use ?

Just catching up . Had a weird one . DD routine went a bit off late yesterday and caused her to wake for a feed at 1am ! Annoying to say the least and she hasn't had as much formula as usual today .

When is everyone stopping sterilising ?
I sold my rocking crib today . Keeping most other stuff but that was in the way .

MotherofA · 16/09/2017 21:22

Happy half birthdays babies !

I don't find weaning too messy now , but she has been weaning since 17 weeks also . I just get it in when her mouth opens haha. Giving them chunks is messy though but I just use anti bac wipes on chair and floor and clean her with mussy and baby wipes.

DD sleeps for a long time in the morning 1.5-2 hours then only a short nap in the afternoon (about 45 min ) .

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2017 22:01

i would prob df @carol as had less then usual or likely to wake up 2/3/4 hungry

@purple, yes thats correct, once doing 11/df to 7 then either bring forward to 10, reduce it/water it down so has volume but less milk or stop all together, dd kept refusing it at 11 but would sleep thro, so we stopped offering it

baby wipes @weaning is the way to go Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2017 22:04

all packed, need sooooooooooooooooooo much stuff for a 5.5mth dd abroad, let alone food/milk for airport/plane/landing etc

have booked for may, so should be much easier as be over 1, so no milk/bottles or sterlising

which by the way i stop once they are crawling as getting into muck anyway in my house anyway

troodiedoo · 16/09/2017 22:08

Not found weaning too messy but we are doing purees. A shower curtain on the floor is handy.

I stopped sterilising at two months, read a thread on here that said it wasn't necessary. Other countries including USA don't sterilise at all. They probably have more dishwasher usage though I'd imagine.

Carolann8584 · 16/09/2017 22:52

Df at 10:30 as she started stirring. She had 5.5oz out of 6

She's definitely moving a lot more in her sleep now she has the room

NameChange30 · 16/09/2017 22:53

I was going to try and catch up but it's a bit late now so I will reply to the things I remember!

100 Happy half birthday to your DD!

purple FWIW I was skeptical about dream feeds and most of the things I have read have either advised against them or said they are neither good nor bad. Obviously everyone has different approaches that work for different babies and they are all valid but I would say if your instinct is not to do a dream feed, I would listen to your instinct. Did you discuss dream feeds with the sleep consultant you used at all?

Mother
Sterilising - we have been pretty lax for a while tbh Blush I read that formula powder can contain bacteria which I realise is rare but insist on sterilising the bottle if we've given formula (which hasn't been often as DS is mostly breastfed and has been refusing the bottle). But everything else we only sterilise occasionally - less and less now! DS puts everything in his mouth and I figure a bit of bacteria will help his immune system develop... right?!

Blondes
Yep, the packing is a nightmare isn't it! That's the worst thing about travelling with a baby. We got back last night and we were so knackered today that we hardly did anything, haven't even unpacked properly yet Confused

DS has been really hard work today, he's been teething lately and we think he might possibly be cutting a tooth as today was particularly bad. DH and I both struggling as we're so tired from the trip and all the night wakings Sad On the up side it is lovely to be home with our own bed (SO much more comfy than the campsite bed and bedding) and our cats Smile

MotherofA · 16/09/2017 23:25

Wow I might stop then ! I sterilised until my DD was 1 Like a complete plonker ! I won't do it that long but may wait until she is crawling or something .
Hope you have an amazing holiday blondes Smile

purpleviolet1 · 16/09/2017 23:27

Thanks blondes

Thanks names - yes she recommended that I forget about the dream feed and see what time he wakes and just gradually push forward. So for example if he wakes after 2.30am I am to feed. If he wakes at 5am , 4am, 4.30am, 5am for the next 4 nights then I am to take the average of those and only feed after that time. So that way it'll slowly push it forward. I think I'll just do that as I try to get to bed early and staying up for dream feed and then doing a night waking is too much really. Only worth it if it's guaranteed to sleep through the night! I don't want him to get into the habit of waking during night again and staying awake/ waking frequently because of hunger as that's teaching him bad habits, if for example
I do the dream feed and then don't feed him till 6am like I did the other day (he still woke at 2am and took 30 mins to settle, seemed to be a little restless and made a few cries at 4am as well.)

OP posts:
purpleviolet1 · 16/09/2017 23:28

Oh I've stopped sterilising - it's been about a week. I don't feel it's good to sterilise too much and not allow the immune system to develop but each to their own obviously, all valid reasons and no right and wrong really

OP posts:
MotherofA · 16/09/2017 23:53

I think I'm going to stop then thanks all of you !

purpleviolet1 · 16/09/2017 23:57

For selfish reasons I've been dying to stop for ages and asked a while ago on here but sounded like people were going to carry on for ages. I'm glad to hear others have stopped anyway!
