Jodie I found being at home much harder than I imagined got used to it now but still find some days very long, we couldnt afford for me not to work

trixymalixy · 29/03/2007 18:01

EAH, there shouldn't really be a problem with me going back part time as some of the female managers work part time so there is no way they could come up with a business justification for rejecting my request.

It's more that I moved departments to work for him because of the attitude of some of the other managers to women who work part time. He is quite happy to promote part time workers whereas in other departments they are a bit sidelined.

JodieG1 · 29/03/2007 18:10

I do feel really lucky not having to go back to work until the kids are older. We have quite a bit of equity in this house and a lowish mortgage otherwise we wouldn't be able to afford it either. We moved here from London about 2 years ago now.

Dd came home from school today scratching checked her head and she has nits, first time she's had them so have treated her hair and will be combing it through in the morning, nightmare just hope noone else gets them. She said a friend at school was telling her they'd suck her blood lol so I guess she caught them from her. Makes me feel all itchy now though.

LadyTophamHatt · 29/03/2007 18:18

funnily enough jodie, Today is the day 8 yrs ago that I went on maternity leave with ds1!

F*cking hell....8 yrs!!!

It has flown by, and if someone had told me then that #i'd eventually have 4 I would have said they were stark raving mad.

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 29/03/2007 18:30

Feeling sorry for myself at the moment as I had to have another filling today and it worse, a really deep one. Seemed to drill for ages

Trixy- We had our hearing test this afternoon too, bit of a nuisance getting all the way to the hosp with the older ones as well, a family outing! She just held the thing in his ear but he didn't like it much. Passed though!

I won't be working immediately either, as I have been a full time student for four years and only really did various part time jobs since I had ds1 anyway. My degree and masters are in writing though and I did a short journalism course at the end of this pregnancy so ideally I would like to get some work from home going. I think it's quite hard to be freelance without being an in-house first, but I'm lucky there's no rush and can try and get some things together in a few months. I'm involved with some creative projects at the moment but no money earners unfortunately. I turned down some community teaching while pregnant as I wasn't feeling up to it so there's always that area, not sure I want to teach though.

I really can't be arsed to cook tea. It's my first day of no dairy to try and get rid of LO'S allergy and can't think of what to cook. Got plenty of dairy free choc from the grocers though. Suppose I ought to still feed my children

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 29/03/2007 18:39

just remembered they had a hot dinner today and can have cheese toasties. Bonus!

JodieG1 · 29/03/2007 18:54

LTH - wow 8 years, quite a long time, will be me soon I'm racked up 5 years so far

Carot - hope you're not getting any pain with the filling. Sure the cheese toasties will be lovely, making me hungry lol.

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 29/03/2007 18:58

Shame I can't eat them, they smell bloody lovely Have just phoned dp to bring home soup, and maybe a cooked chicken. Mmm

JodieG1 · 29/03/2007 19:04

Mmm soup sounds nice too, think I'm going to have to get something to eat soon I quite fancy a pizza from the place up the road, wonder if I can pursuade dh to go and pick me one up

laughalot · 29/03/2007 19:19

I forgot to say I am only going back 2 days which is what I did when I had my ds, I do actually enjoy the adult convos like eah said its just aidan is clingy and gets upset when his muumy leaves him but he starts nursery in september so needs to get used to it.

laughalot · 29/03/2007 19:20

Managed to get pics on my profile

RGeeSusIsCrucified · 29/03/2007 19:33

Lizz - what an absolute pi**er . How is the wall? Good luck with house hunting.

ELM - your piccies are truely lovely

EAH - mmmm...roast dinner....

Hats off to you SAHM. It is definitely the hardest job in the world. I love my job and am looking forward to going back, but also looking forward to my day with the LO.

Off to watch Ice Age 2 on DVD now. A mature film don't you think.

2HappyEaster · 29/03/2007 19:37

cute pics elm + laughalot
hope the tooth eases up carrot
going back to work august, same hours as before (mon and tues half day, full day weds) but it'll do not a lot more than cover childcare, car running costs - all the things that i need to go to work, so will virtually be working for free! but i like getting out, i think it mkes me fresher on the days i'm home with dses.
hard day today with the crap weather. ds1 had got used to spending all day outside and couldn't understand why he couldn't go out today
positive vibes please for my dmiddlesis being induced (term+13) tomorrow
am i imagining wilkie not being on since the weaning debacle?? come baaaaaaaaaack.... (or maybe you have a life outside the computer, unlike me )

OP posts:
JodieG1 · 29/03/2007 19:42

Think someone said wilkie was away for a couple of days.

2HappyEaster · 29/03/2007 19:46

Ah fair enough... was it cos of dh's interview or something maybe.

OP posts:
JodieG1 · 29/03/2007 19:48

Not sure, think eah said she was going to stay with her mother for a few days? Something like that anyway.

Dragonhart · 29/03/2007 19:49

I am still at home after stopping when I had Luke. I cant afford to go back to work, even if I wanted to. My pay was not all that high and the childcare costs for two of them would be more than I earned! We are lucky too thoughas we planed it when we bought our house and got our mortgage on just one salary and it is quite low now three years on, and I enjoy being at home with them (most of the time!)

UD - Yesterday I had Luke with no nappy on running around. I knew he needed a wee but he would not go on the toilet and kept telling me he didnt need a wee. I changed Ruth while he was standing on our bed, looking out of the window and suddenly I heard him say 'WEE! WEE!' in a really loud voice then a quiet little 'oh dear'. Went in and he had done a big wee on DH's pillow. And I am taking a massive wee. Had to leave the room and wet myself laughing!

Also, DH has never come to any of lo's injections. He is very involved in doing stuff for them but I think that men find it harder to bond with tiny babies. He was much better with Luke when he started to respond properly to him and now they are really close. Dh puts him to bed most nights and has done loads more since Ruth was born.

ELM- Sounds horrible for you both but glad it is getting bette now. xxx

Carrot - I had to have a huge filling after Luke was born and it was awful. Worst thing was that I had put it off and when I did eventually go to the dentist, she gave me a big lecture and I am sure she was a bit rough just because I had left it so long!

EAH- Glad visit went well. Luke was loads better today so guess he was doing iit all for attention. Mind you my mum was here all afternoon and he loves it when she comes so might just be because of that! She took him in the car to get it washed and he was all excited about it until it started and he just went mental screaming 'all gone' and 'up up' with his hads out. Felt awful but we just had to wait til it was finished.

Lizz - Poor you, we had a leak when we lived in a flat with my sis befor we got married and someone left a bath runing up stairs. It leaked through to the fire alarm and set it off at 11 at night! It was defening and as our landlord would not come out, the environmental health people came round and turned it off. It was a nightmare! Hope you get it sorted quickly.

2happy- good luck for your sis. Mine has her 20 week scan next wed but is doing loads better now that the dreaded morning sickness has gone.

Dragonhart · 29/03/2007 19:55

Sorry for the essay!

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 29/03/2007 20:07

dh glad Luke was better they do have their 'days' don't they

Think there must be something in the water as just had 4 people tell me they are pg and 3 of them due in nov (not a good month money wise so lots of presents will have to be bought beforehand!)

my cousin who got married in sept (when ellie as bridesmaid) is pg and just been talking to hr and shes buying all my baby/pg books of me (bonus saves me having to ebay them!)

one of my closest friends (ellies godmother) has a son who is 5 and has been ttc for 2.5yrs and had one m/c and thought that at 38 she was pushing it so just flogged all her baby stuff 3 weeks ago and decided to give up trying and is now 6 weeks pg

another friend due late sept just had 12 week scan and has now told all of us (we had suspicions!)

and next door neghbours sister (know her to talk to her dd's are similar age to mine and next door neighbours so often play together) is expecting her 3rd

So PCC heres hoping it rubs of onto you!

Jodie was right wilkie flounced off to her mums hope shes back soon (jodie did dh get your pizza?)

Rgee - hope film good

Laughalot love the pics especially the one of the two of them have yet to get a half decent pic of e and h together

2happy - good luck to sis

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 29/03/2007 21:32

Poor dp went to three supermarkeys to get my chicken! Apparently the fact that I said I REALLY want some cooked chicken meant he thought he better not come home without it and it was revolting! I'd forgotten what a battery hen tasted like, fatty, and well, tasteless. Mind you, I don't suppode chinese crispy duck is exactly free range or organic and I'm quite partial to that!

And I couldn't have the soup as that had mascarpone in it, sigh, this dairy free will be harder than I thought. I'm getting lots of good info off people on the thread I started about it though, loads of people have had postive results from cutting dairy with their baby's allergies.

Shimmer · 29/03/2007 22:04

Well done on the dairy free stuff Carrot! Why is it that as soon as you want to cut something out of your diet you end up really wanting it even more?!?
Good luck with the house hunting Lizz! Are you staying in brighton? I went to university there, lived right near the sea front near hove for 3 years and loved it. DP and I are still "discussing" whether we want to leave london and we've been considering moving down to brighton... or possibily the other way and go up north, where dp's from. We both seem to be incapable of making a decision.
2Happy I'm like you-will hopefully be going back to work a few days a week but am coming to terms with the fact that child care costs will pretty much take up my whole salary, so just working for the fun of it() well, and the experience. Have any of you who are going back in the next few months got nurseries in mind already? how does it work, i guess you need to visit them in the flesh before deciding to send the LO there? There's so much I don't know....

CarrotAteAllTheEggs · 29/03/2007 22:12

You DEFINITELY need to visit nurseries in the flesh, Shimmer, half of picking something that's right for you and your baby is instinct. Mine went a few times a week depending on my timetables, but they were two and three then. With a baby that can't speak you need to trust your gut feeling, which I reckon you get as soon as you walk in, bit like house buying

Lizzzombie · 30/03/2007 09:29

Phew - its a good job LTH has left instructions for bogey removal. The bogey man has well and truly been up Dylans nose. He has a nasty cold and was having a stressy sleep at 2am, when I got up to check he was ok, there was tons of snot coming out of his nose and clinging to his cuddly dog he sleeps with. Ugh! Poor little thing is not a happy baby today.
Shimmer - wish we could afford to stay in Brighton or Hove, not possible though. Ridiculous prices now. Only a little bit cheaper than London. We are looking at further out. Hopefully Eastbourne. There doesnt seem to be so many beggers & junkies there. And they have tea dances there too, for all the oldies!
I have no idea about going back to work yet. I know I can get weekend work back at the shop I left, but then I'll never see DP. But we cant afford childcare during the week. Does anyone know about childcare vouchers?

looshkin · 30/03/2007 09:56

Morning all, as usual I have been lurking - thanks for the mention UD. Things are a little better here I have a CPN now who visits me and is a little like an angel sitting on your shoulder whispering positive happy thoughts to try and combat the big fat devil sitting on the other one telling me what an awful job I am doing. The medicaiton has not worked as yet so hoping for an improvement in the next week or so.

The trip to scotland was good but a long drive but wow how you guys talk took me a whole day to catch up and consequently so much has happened my brain cannot cope with personals.

Hope teeth/MILs and future work prospects pan out and positive vibes for 2happy sis.

Back to lurking [stalking in shadows emoticon]

loosh

laughalot · 30/03/2007 10:44

Aaah loosh glad things are looking a bit brighter sending all my love xxxx

Ud any word from the mil the old bat ? I reckon we are the closest to one another however wilkie isnt to far from me.

Linz sorry to hear about the bloody idiots upstairs.

Eah need your help with this bottle feeding thing, lauren has a bottle at 8,12,4,8 no dreamfeed and usually wakes up once in the night for a feed the time varies for that though. Tried her on hungry baby milk a few weeks back and it upset her tummy so went back to normal milk and found she started waking up twice in the night so for the past 2 nights I have given her hungry baby milk at 4 and 8 and it has seen her through from 8 untill around 3.30 when she wants feeding again, do you think I should try and give her a extra bottle during the day to see if that fills her more or stick with what im doing ? That is the reason I asked you the other day how many bottles hattie has.

Well I am soooo angry spent loads on debenhams website yesterday buying loads of things for the kids they were in the sale I then see on telly this morning that it is the next sale this weekend so that means more bloody spending .

2happy hope your sister is ok I was induced had lauren within 2 hours my 2 stage of labour from fully dilated to giving birth lasted 4 minutes midwife couldnt stop laughing.
