Well DD stayed asleep for an hour then woke as if she just had afternoon nap!! Spent the last 2 hours nearly trying to get her back to sleep, just gave her another feed to help her off and it seems to have done the trick. Only heard her moan once so far, think she's trying to fight it but loosing

MotherofA · 29/07/2017 22:43

Ahhhh bless her heart ! Hope she settles soon Carol

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/07/2017 11:27

@carolann and @mother how old are your step children?

Carolann8584 · 30/07/2017 11:47

Mine are 5 and 7.

DD gave up around 9:30 but woke at 2 for a feed and then woke at 6. She struggled to have her first feed think she's teething. Put some gel on then she managed half a feed. Then she had a nap til 8:30. Same again with 10am feed only had 4 out of 6oz now snoozing again

MotherofA · 30/07/2017 13:15

My DD just wants food all the time now haha she is a gannet ! Mine are 6 & 8

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/07/2017 13:35

Can you believe I have started typing a reply three times , only to be distracted and lose my message!

Those of you who are weaning what did you start on? Tried to give DS organic boots baby rice mixed with his nutramigen milk as per instructions but he only had a tiny taste before refusing it. Should I try something different or is this normal for day 1?? He has started getting up during the night again after sleeping through for 6 /7 weeks and only settling back to sleep when given a bottle. Think it's a combination of milk no longer satisfying him and the reflux bothering him.

Blondes - today is day 3 of 20mg omeprazole and no great difference yet. Hopefully soon!

Thanks for asking purple I was going to Smile

purpleviolet1 · 30/07/2017 16:14

No worries Carol Smile

Nap times are horrendous at the moment. DS is being really clingy. Partly the reflux but I'm scared of creating bad habits so I have been putting him in the cot to try and nod off. Mostly being unsuccessful. He ends up fighting sleep so much that he becomes overtired and then I need to pat him or hold him to sleep. Sad sometimes I hear gulping so I know he is uncomfortable and then I feel terrible for putting him down but I don't want to hold him upright to sleep as he might only sleep that way going forward. He has a wedge so is raised so not completely flat.

Anyone have any advice? I feel like I just need someone to tell me what to do!

I didn't need bother with baby rice. It's bland and yuk

Went straight to veg
Carrot
Sweet potato
Parsnip
Peas
Bns

Will try brocolli and cauliflower tomorrow /Tuesday

Hope the 20mg kicks in soon. I usually say give it 3/5 days to get into systems

purple
The night waking might just be the 4/5 month sleep regression (rather than hunger or reflux).
We've had similar issues with naps, I started a thread under the sleep topic and got some good advice and suggestions. Apparently it's harder for them to fall asleep in the daytime than at night (makes sense) and movement helps. The poster suggested I try bouncing DS to sleep in his chair which we've had some success with but not loads. If yours takes a dummy that could help too, but my DS isn't interested! Oh and apparently it's harder to get them to sleep if they're overtired so it's good to try and get them to sleep as soon as you notice the signs of tiredness. Easier said than done I find because DS often fights sleep!

NameChange30 · 30/07/2017 18:49

PS Just to add, DS mostly falls asleep in our arms after a feed or after being rocked - or in the pushchair or car seat. We will persevere with the bouncer chair as I'm hoping it might help him eventually fall asleep by himself after we put him down, but I have decided that for now it's more important not to let him get overtired and do whatever works to get him to sleep. I did get really frustrated and upset when the bouncer chair didn't work and decided to take the pressure off myself! We will keep trying though because it's easier than rocking him.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/07/2017 19:15

If Patting gets him to sleep do it it's a step up from cuddling /rocking - I suggest saying shush in low voice as well

Then once settles happy like that just lay hand on tummy and shush

Then sit in chair and say shush

Called gradual retreat. No crying hopefully x

Carolann8584 · 30/07/2017 19:35

That's what I've done tonight and she has gone down a lot easier and earlier than last night. I started to rock her to sleep in my arms and overlapped with shushing then while her eyes were rolling stopped the rocking and carried on shushing while I putting her down in her Moses then stopped shushing after a couple of minutes and now she's........

I think I'm putting DS down too early. Even though he displays tiredness, yawning, whinging etc he is wide awake and very active. I put him in the cot and he gets even more excited. Then he just really fights his sleep.

Before I used to put him down after 1.5-2 hours and he would be drowsy. I guess his awake time is longer now. I thought I read that even at 8/9 months awake time should be limited to 2 hours.... ???

We've got the vtech sleepy bear sweet dreams projector and I think it's stimulating him more rather than helping him wind down. I've just used the white noise app and it seems to have worked better

Ah blondes that's an amazing story ! Have you been a step mum to them a long time ?

I also just started straight on veg , my DD seemed like she was rejecting it all for the first two weeks then realised she likes it haha. I only use baby rice to bulk up veg sometimes and I do give organix porridge in the morning . She's much happier now she's on food.
I haven't given fruit many times as I want her to be well established on veg / savoury .

She is still waking up in the night though as she has been for 3 weeks now . She has 7oz then goes back down !

MotherofA · 30/07/2017 23:07

PS all the pictures are so lovely 😊

purpleviolet1 · 30/07/2017 23:19

Thick question (my brain is fried) but do you steam the veg and then blend? How do you do such small portions?

Yes , so I either take out a bit of what I've cooked for dinner or just boil a small pan . I did 1 small potato , 1/2 carrot & 1 small bit of cabbage , boiled up and blended with a little formula that made 2 portions . Smile I bought a Tommee Tippee blender for £20 it's the perfect size and really good . Used a hand blender first time round which was great too .

MotherofA · 30/07/2017 23:41

Ah I wondered what that fancy machine was that I have seen people use Hugh haha
