New thread to celebrate the small things (like first smiles and eating steak with one hand), commiserate over the less fabulous stuff (poonamies, vomit eruptions and wind spring to mind) and someone to talk to at 4am Grin

The NHS website says you can have a glass of wine.

As I understand it, drinking wine at eg 13% gives you a blood alcohol level of a fraction of one percent. So the amount of alcohol in your milk is lower than if baby was drinking oldfashioned lemonade - not like giving him wine at all.

vanilla8 · 13/06/2017 16:37

@1004Rise I have had two drinks and then left it 3 hours to breastfeed ( so drunk literally after a feed, and one time gave expressed bottle)
Stuff I read says 1-2 hours to let one unit out of your bloodstream. I think it's better if your eating at same time aswell?

No need to pump and waste milk apparently

teainbed · 13/06/2017 17:05

I'd have a single glass of wine or Prosecco and not bother avoiding feeding. I'm not a massive drinker but suspect for 1-2 drinks it'd be ok. Not sure about larger amounts but not something I am planning on doing at present!

1004Rise · 13/06/2017 17:34

Thanks ladies, I think the cranky baby this afternoon may be partly responsible for the readiness for alcohol... got nothing done this afternoon other than cuddle, burp, feed too much sleeping in the pram this morning.... 😳😣

PeachIcedT · 13/06/2017 20:06

I have that nature bond pump, and it's good for collecting a bit of top up expressed milk, though I do find to get anything decent the suction needs to be quite uncomfortable and it has fallen off a couple of times. Still well worth it though.

I took baby Peach to the sling library today. Problem is she screamed cried through much of it. Every time I put her to face my body she desperately roots for a nipple! I am getting a little tired now as during the day she constantly makes feeding cues and barely sleeps. I get about a few seconds between the tongue poking out to the screaming starting. DH is starting a phased return to work tomorrow and I just can't imagine leaving the house as the gaps between feeds are so small. I know it is supposed to get easier but it seems like either a growth spurt or a 'leap' occurs between now and 8 weeks and that seems so far from now as we are only at 4 weeks Sad.

Anyway, I didn't hire or buy a sling in the end as baby would really rather spend her time feeding than being carried around but the structured carriers worked best for me.

MrsJW15 · 13/06/2017 20:08

I've had a glass of wine a couple of times. Our NCT breastfeeding teacher said it was fine! I can't remember the exact rules... I haven't had more than a glass because I've worried about struggling to stay up during night feeds!

Rockyroad17 · 13/06/2017 20:13

I've read what @vanilla said but my problem is LO is still not in any kind of feeding pattern that I daren't risk drinking in case I'm feeding within 30 mins.

Thanks for the Father's Day suggestions. Completely forgot about Not on the highstreet. I definitely have to get something nice as he bought me a Mother's day gift (before the baby was even here!)

peasandquiet · 13/06/2017 21:29

Evening all, hope all ok, on the booze thing an uncle of my husband is a paediatric consultant and says one drink with a meal is fine, and good for me.
This is the man who has looked after babies with fetal alcohol syndrome so I trust his opinion that is perfectly safe.
Father's Day is stressing me out, need to sort cards and gifts for husband, dad and FIL!

mightymouse76 · 13/06/2017 21:35

Hi all
Chipping in to the booze talk, the midwife at my antenatal class said the best time was when they are on the boob, as it won't hit your bloodstream that quickly (peaks around 30 mins after).
I'd love a drunk but haven't gone there as I too struggle with the broken sleep, and fear it would put me in an even worse state when trying to stay awake! Roll on weaning time WineWineWineGrin

EsmesBees · 14/06/2017 01:49

I feel pretty relaxed about feeding and drinking. I'd never have more than one, but that's because I'm so knackered rather than concern for the baby. In fact, we took both girls to the pub after nursery today and I had a lovely drink in the sunshine.

Hope you got your nap tea. I've been having about 2 hours sleep every afternoon while DH is off. Keeps me going.

I completely panicked and bought DH so.e stupidly expensive personalised socks for father's day. No head space for present buying this year.

savagehk · 14/06/2017 06:27

Regards drinking i think no issue if one drink at all. There are a few studies out there which show relatively little gets into your milk.

Different to when pregnant as then it does get into your bloodstream which and crosses the placenta. I didn't drink while pregnant at all barring occasional mouthfuls of wine near the end.

savagehk · 14/06/2017 06:32

RasperryInAMelon · 14/06/2017 07:24

Lots of catching up to do here, thanks for the new thread @crazyzooo it's taken me two feeds and best part of two hours to catch up, Molly is now in a milk coma on my lap...

I tend to use the FB page a little more at the moment and can say that everyone over there has officially had their babies now too!

@dreamofhungarianlanterns the ducklings look very happy in their new home and lovely that you can still go to visit 🐥

@BouncingBlueberry another hungry baby here, Molly had regained her birth weight and put on a little bit by her day 5 check so I'm really interested to see where we're at next Tuesday when we get discharged from the MW team

@CoxsOrangePippin @newbieho Re the sleeping between feeds - I was getting worried that Molly wasn't waking for night feeds, I had to set an alarm the other day for 4 hours to wake her at a week old. Last night we managed 5 hours straight through so I'm hoping I've got a good sleeper but am concerned that she may not be feeding enough when she does so will check in with the MW at a drop in session tomorrow.

I am on the flip side cluster feeding during the day when she gets really aggy... you can't win them all I guess

@vanilla8 We also had 4 back to back nappies the other night, DH couldn't believe it, no sooner had we settled Molly and turned the light off, there was the sound of 'I need a bum change'... lots of laughter about it because otherwise we'd cry with sheer exhaustion

@1004Rise This LO requires ALOT of bouncing too rather than the lovely feed to sleep we were experiencing... annoyingly, daddy seems to be the only one who's any good at it (or has the patience at the moment)... 🙈

@newbieho Sorry you're not getting out as much as you want to, I remember you saying this was important to you x

@mrspage1985 💙 massive congratulations! He's gorgeous!!

Awwww thanks @dreamofhungarianlanterns I've attached a few faves from the last week. Despite a very emotionally distressing labour, she's perfect. I really need to write out my birth story to help come to terms with it I think for my own sake

BF dresses... I've just bought this and am going to cut holes in the under layer... m2.hm.com/m/en_gb/productpage.0516724004.html#Black I also came across a fantastic FB page called 'Can I Breastfeed In It' where people are always posting items of clothing they've found easy to BF in which has been handy for ideas!

@MissMooMoo day 8 here and we still have a cord stump... really hoping we're close to it falling off now!

@Sipperskipper just gorgeous! I keep thinking I get a little smile here or there but I'm more inclined to say it's just wind... 💨

@savagehk I don't know about you, but I had a moment yesterday walking around Bluewater, Molly was crying as she was hungry and I oddly felt more embarrassed about looking like a bad mum for having a screaming baby than I cared when I whacked a boob out in the middle of Boots to feed her - thankfully I was only ever welcomed with smiles ☺️

@teainbed we're struggling with clothes here - Molly was 55cm when she was born so half of her Sleepsuits are too short but the perfect fit and the other half fit in length but absolutely drown her in size! I bought her a tiny baby dress yesterday... 👗

@Paige84 look at that face! I can assure you you're not a pants mummy, things are hard, especially when you've had little or no sleep - I've had moments of feeling the same recently too. As @Rabbitykins55 said - a BF drop in session might be a great support network for you 💐

@Rockyroad17 how about a letter to Daddy? I did a babymoon box for DH which he's opening a gift a day whilst on Pat Leave, I've written a letter from Molly and I which I will give him on Sunday as it falls perfectly for us.

As @mightymouse76 said - I too was told the best time to drink is actually while you're feeding as thats the point when it has longest to pass through your system and that it only takes 45 minutes for it to go...

It's been an insanely busy first week and we've had non stop visitors since the day she was born, DH is still asleep now and we have a day totally to ourselves so I think we'll be spending the whole day in bed and ordering take out for family bed cuddles ☺️

@RasperryInAMelon
What lovely pics!! She's dreamy 🤗
Enjoy your family day

mrspage1985 · 14/06/2017 09:55

Hi all, at 3am this morning I caught up on the thread, posted a long response and lots of newborn pics for all those that want a newborn munch! However it didn't save and I just gave up!!!
In the cold light of day with a beautiful 5.5hrs of sleep inside of me I have slightly more patience!!
Baby page is doing fab, we are still in hospital and will be till Friday at least. My temp went so high during labour that he ended up with an infection. It's low on the scale - tested by CRP (??!!) so he is having antibiotics twice daily. Hopefully we will be out on Friday! It's not that bad in fairness - it's like an enforced babymoon as we in our own room and baby page is feeding and sleeping well!
I'll pop some newborn pics on!! Xx

Beautiful baby pics everyone! Don't we make beautiful babies!

MrsJW15 · 14/06/2017 11:21

@mrspage1985 we ended up in hospital for 5 days as we both had infections. Lucky you having your one room! Make the most of all the support etc offered, particularly on breastfeeding. It wasn't too bad having to stay I thought - as long as I had some alternatives to hospital food!

1004Rise · 14/06/2017 12:34

Love the contrast between baby Page who looks tiny and baby Tea who looks really big @teainbed @mrspage1985 😁😁

It's amazing how perfect they are when they arrive and how quickly they grow!!

Baby Rise is somewhere in the middle 😜

crazyzooo · 14/06/2017 12:58

Got 9 hours (!!!) sleep last night. Admittedly in chunks of 1-3hours but I'll take that Grin

Baby Crazy joined us for a road trip to visit family and travelled a total of 800miles in 4 days! Stopped every 1-2hours and travelled next to him in the back seat and it was very doable. Knackered now though and still in PJs and have been feeding since 9 am!

Love the baby photos!! Still can't quite believe they were all hiding in those fabulous bumps!!

Baby Crazy is 7 weeks old now 💙 Time flies!!!

That's very brave @crazyzooo did it go ok? Brilliant to get on the road and see people though.

@1004Rise BabyTea is 9 weeks on Friday! No idea how that happened. Grin Having previously thought he was long and slim the thigh rolls have appeared in the last day or two.

We have first immunisations tomorrow including the meningitis one which none of our other DC have had before. So we have to give calpol half an hour before. It's just occurred to me that the bottle we've got has probably been open for YEARS as I can't remember the last time I used it. Better pop to the shop later for a new one!

Rustler74 · 14/06/2017 14:05

Will have to catch up later properly as baby rustling and stirring and I have my lunch in the oven, but pleased it's still such a speedy thread!
I'm actually wondering how the hubbies/ OHs are doing. My oh is actually struggling a bit, whilst coming down from his high of becoming a daddy, which has been his wish for a long time. Baby rustler is doing so well and he's back to work. I'm not driving as yet so I rely on him for shopping etc and he's truly been a rock for me.
He's had MH problems in the past and has been sober for nearly 13 years which I think he should be celebrating and go back to the group but even if he says he agrees he keeps putting it off.
I'll be calling the health visitors team and or gp as I want him to get the support he needs before he slides off into deeper MH trouble...
Any others?

teainbed · 14/06/2017 15:16

Sorry to hear that @Rustler74 I think for either parent there's a huge amount of worry and anticipation before the baby comes even if you don't feel it much. Then the birth itself which is one of the top scoring life events in terms of stress. And then I think a drop off of adrenaline and tiredness and the coalface parenting realities start to kick in. I hope he can go and speak to someone or ask for help.
