New thread to celebrate the small things (like first smiles and eating steak with one hand), commiserate over the less fabulous stuff (poonamies, vomit eruptions and wind spring to mind) and someone to talk to at 4am Grin

@bouncingblueberry - glad to see that nate is not the only one who's a secret boxer at nighttime!

1004Rise · 05/07/2017 10:43

@WishIWasSleeping wow, that's not a lot of space in that pram. I have to say one thing I never considered when buying a pram was the bassinet being too small by 2 months old!! 😱

@MrsJW15 exactly who knew a little line could make that much difference 😉

Good call on the food bank, I will investigate!

@dreamofhungarianlanterns that made me laugh, sorry. That's one of the reasons I'm reluctant to post on Facebook, I never put anything about my pregnancy on Facebook so when I posted in the wrong place it would definitely have amusing consequences 😳

Exercises pictures attached... advice from the physio - don't be surprised if you find it hard, and none of it should hurt. I wasn't really surprised how hard I found it the first week 😳

@jennymac31 yes I have a fighting baby too, she's punched her nose several times but she never seems to wake herself up 🤔

@jennymac31 another fighter here! Her arms and legs go crazy sometimes. We've just started putting her in a gro snug with her arms in as she wakes herself up flailing around! And scratches her face. She's always trying to get her hand in her mouth and then gets frustrated when it falls out!

newbieho · 05/07/2017 12:24

Baby newbie is fidgeting so much in his bed that he may be a professional biker in the future (training for Tour de France already). He is also travelling in the bed always waking up turned by 180 degrees. I have got no idea how he does it!

1004Rise · 05/07/2017 14:59

I found a new sleeping aid, this was the reaction to the hair dryer.....

mightymouse76 · 05/07/2017 15:06

...reaches for hairdryer...

mightymouse76 · 05/07/2017 15:08

I'm actually most impressed that you got to wash your hair @1004Rise

1004Rise · 05/07/2017 15:41

@mightymouse76 me too, unfortunately all the hard work is rewarded by having to tie it up in a bun out the way of grabby hands 🤔

EsmesBees · 05/07/2017 15:54

rise the hairdryer was a lifesaver with dd1. I used to put videos of hairdryer noise on the iPad at top volume while she napped.

MrsJW15 · 05/07/2017 15:55

I think I got baby W to do a combination of napping and lying quietly in bed by using a gro snug, dummy and Ewan!

vanilla8 · 05/07/2017 16:14

@MrsJW15 baby vanilla pushes his hands up to his neck in the grosnug, which bakes night time latching awkward. But still think he sleeps better in it.

@1004Rise cute sleepsuit and well done on the hair wash. I had a 15 min bath today as I am aching from my weeding the garden yesterday! Thanks for the exercise sheets.

Baby vanilla must be in 5-6 wk growth spurt, very clingy and feeding constantly today

CoxsOrangePippin · 05/07/2017 18:15

@adventuregame I saw the consultant and it sounds like I will need surgery but I feel happier now there is a plan!

@newbieho I love your description of the two feeding 'options' Grin

I have just made myself a bfing non-cover-thing: a sheer grey scarf that I've sewn two Velcro dots to, so I can drape it round my neck and keep it in place. That way I don't cover baby's head at all, but I do have a bit of fabric vaguely covering the remaining cleavage if I've just yanked my dress down!

WishIWasSleeping · 05/07/2017 18:24

@1004Rise - much love for that sleepsuit!
And the little chap in it is pretty cute too!
DD never minded the hairdryer when she was small, or the hoover. Currently though she's scared of both! I obviously don't use them often enough anymore! Shock

MrsJW15 · 05/07/2017 19:20

@1004Rise love the ducks!

@vanilla8 last night I took her arms out to feed to stop her getting cross. She can kind of get her hand out the neck - such determination!

@vanilla8 I have quite a grumpy baby. Don't think the heat helps.

RasperryInAMelon · 05/07/2017 20:01

Right... literally the fourth time I've tried to read and reply...

@newbieho we're in at 3pm - fingers crossed it goes well!

@mightymouse76 I'm desperate to have my 6 week check and get back to some form of exercise but have a feeling I may be told to take a bit longer after EMCS? Appointment is on the 26th when I'll be 7 weeks PP.

Why do you have a glue strip on your scar out of interest I only have dissolvable stitches? Good to know about regaining feeling! Just want that time to hurry up!

@vanilla8 I think we're almost ready to move up to size 2 aswell! Molly has had size 1 from Sainsbury's, Pampers and Morrisons - Sainsbury's are my favourite by far! 40 for £2.00

@MrsJW15 I need to take stock of clothes that don't fit tomorrow and am dreading it!

@Tickyboovicki thanks for the recommendation on the ap! It's waiting for me to get the sign off!

@jennymac31 @BouncingBlueberry I have a Nicola Adams in the making! 🥊

Tickyboovicki · 05/07/2017 21:45

Everyone talking about the magical effect of hoover/hairdryer noise etc, someone on here recommended the sound sleeper app to me, bloody love it!

Had a clingy, grumpy baby again today. It's hard being so little in the heat!

dreamofhungarianlanterns · 06/07/2017 07:35

Rise thanks for sharing the exercises, always grateful for any exercise that can be performed lying down Grin

MrsJW15 · 06/07/2017 08:00

Downloaded sound sleeper yesterday @Tickyboovicki as I am at my parents and forgot Ewan! Looks like it does a lot of things - any tips for using it?

jennymac31 · 06/07/2017 08:40

Morning ladies

Hope you're all enjoying the lovely weather.

Had quite a pleasant day yesterday. Took nate to baby group and he was really alert through all the rhyme songs. He particularly liked 'peekaboo' and kept smiling & making cute noises which were adorable.

My sil came round in the afternoon for some company and to just get out of the house, as she's a week overdue with her first ds and is quite fed up. Keeping fingers crossed that he'll arrive soon.

Am hoping to venture out to another rhyme time group this morning but it'll depend on whether nate wakes up in time.

Paige84 · 06/07/2017 09:10

Morning ladies, quick question for anyone expressing..... roughly how much should I keep for each feed? I'm storing in 4oz batches but have no idea if that's right or not. I'm aiming for him to have one bottle of expressed per day starting asap to get used to s bottle before the dreaded return to work. Thanks!

CoxsOrangePippin · 06/07/2017 09:14

@paige84 I was told 20ml per kilo per feed, on eight feeds a day (adjust up or down if your darling has more or fewer feeds)

savagehk · 06/07/2017 10:21

Paige that's about what we would have in a bottle here, and it was the same with my first. I could get 5oz an express in the end, which handily was the bottle size and bag size we used.

mightymouse76 · 06/07/2017 10:38

So impressed by your expressing amounts @Paige84 and @savagehk
What time do you express and are you doing it straight after feeds? Any tips? I only get anything close to 3oz if I'm pumping in place of a feed which rather defeats the point...

When do you go back to work Paige?

1004Rise · 06/07/2017 10:57

I love this thread, I was just about to ask the same question @Paige84 😁

So follow up questions, do you just keep expressing until nothing more comes out?

How warm does it need to be to give it to her in a bottle? Do I just heat it to not cold?

savagehk · 06/07/2017 11:49

I "built in" an extra "feed" first thing in the morning. Both babies only usually have one breast at any given feed, and first thing you normally have loads of milk. So I feed baby, then pump the other breast.
