March 2017 babies

So my 9 day old baby boy was delivered by emcs at 37+5 gestation due to presenting breech (waters broke and contractions started). First baby so lots to learn!

Currently giving him expressed milk and formula topup. We tried breastfeeding but there was latch issues, he got very frustrated as he wasn't getting satisfied and my nipple was cracked and bleeding within a couple of days. I then got blocked ducts and the whole thing was a disaster really. I feel like a bit of a failure and did get help from bf clinic for the latch but it was little too late. With the c section recovery I just feel too exhausted to have him on the boob constantly and least with formula he is getting some decent sleep (although I'm usually expressing during this time so don't get a proper rest).

Oh and his fussy time is between 10pm -2am. He tends to feed and need winded on repeat between this time. It's exhausting but tonight I had a nap from 7-10pm in anticipation.

Come and join me for some chat...

My ds sometimes lies on playmat and has a kick about but in terms of actual minutes it's probably only about 10, if that. I have noticed he does like the freedom of stretching out and looking around. We've not used the bouncer much at all, I don't think he likes that very much..

The majority of the awake time is spent feeding and burping though! Are those of you who are formula feeding finding the winding getting easier? Ds has improved I think, but we still have episodes where it takes ages and ages and we just have to keep moving positions. It's frustrating for all involved and poor DS just looks in agony Sad

Since using Infacol she doesn't have much wind but she likes the over the shoulder position best/easiest for winding.

Sleeping routine out again today, those with other DCs how do you get your newborns to nap with everything going on? We have my DSSs and my DD just won't go down for her usual naps like she does during the week when it's just the 2 of us.

Daphnedown · 30/04/2017 20:05

Mine just naps on the go - car or sling. I haven't managed to get him to nap in his cot anyway!

Daphnedown · 30/04/2017 20:06

And we have no routine during the day anyway...

Carolann8584 · 01/05/2017 08:19

Strange night last night, DD had her usual midnight feed. Went straight to sleep then woke crying at 330 which is usually when she has her next feed so gave it her she fell back to sleep after 1oz so changed her nappy to wake her, she had another oz then fell asleep tried waking her again she was having none of it, spat up about an oz then I let her go back to sleep she woke again at 7 and we went through the same thing. Was determined she would have more this time but she only managed 3oz after a change and lots of waking. Now asleep again. I know I should take advantage of he extra sleep but with her only keeping down about 4oz

purpleviolet1 · 01/05/2017 08:22

Infacol helped loads initially but don't know if it's helping now. We have nelsons colica granules which are good for ongoing crying episodes.

Anyone finding their LO's unhappy / upset before they dirty their nappy? We've noticed ds seems really quite unsettled beforehand and can cry and cry which is then followed by him straining. That was this mornings episode! Apparently if it's soft then it's totally normal. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

The nose is better but poor soul really struggled during the night. He is an already noisy twitchy sleeper but last night was something else. I've read it's normal for them to move and make all sorts of noises during their sleep but I'm wondering if his is excessive.

My LO is the same when it comes to #2

She can trump like her dad lol! She was pretty regular and loose but didn't have a dirty nappy yesterday or today so far. Might have something to do with her lack of appetite?

troodiedoo · 01/05/2017 09:27

Mine is the same with pooing. All kinds of faces and twisting her body and crying. I was a bit worried but Google assured me it's normal. Apparently it's a skill they have to learn.

NameChange30 · 01/05/2017 09:53

Yep DS struggles to poo as well. I've been drinking lots of Neuner's Baby Stomach Tea - so he gets it through my breast milk - and it seems to have helped (with the wind too). I think you can give them a bit directly, or put some in their milk (as long as you use cooled boiled water to make it, obviously).
When he's trying to fart/poo and gets upset because he's uncomfortable, I sit/lie him down semi-upright (I make a triangle with my legs, knees up, and put him on my thighs) and gently bicycle his legs. It calms him down and he often manages to fart/poo. So might be worth a try.

(He's big and growing fast so I'm not sure how much longer he'll fit along my thighs like that! Sad)

Thanks!

Ds has started giving us more responsive smiles ❤️

Random - I know nappies are often on offer but is formula powder ever on offer?

OP posts:
troodiedoo · 01/05/2017 16:30

I don't think it's allowed to be purple.

troodiedoo · 01/05/2017 16:32

If anyone uses nappy pads to give them nappy free time, inconti mats are a much cheaper alternative.

purpleviolet1 · 01/05/2017 16:34

Silly question but with boys does the wee not go everywhere, even beyond the mat?

OP posts:
troodiedoo · 01/05/2017 16:42

Hmm good point. I only have girls! I suppose is depends on their range lol

MygirlKeith · 01/05/2017 16:57

Formula is never on offer and you also don't get loyalty points on it. You're not allowed to advertise it either.

NameChange30 · 01/05/2017 17:12

purple
For nappy free time we put DS on a big folded towel in the bath.
We took him to the doctors when he was a few weeks old, to get his nappy rash checked as it wasn't going away, and he did a projectile poo as well as a wee that went up in an arc and made a puddle on the carpet! Stressful at the time but funny in retrospect Grin
Anyway from that point onwards I suggested the bath for nappy free time - changing table is definitely too dangerous!

Carolann8584 · 01/05/2017 20:05

Well finally back 2 just the 3 of us. Don't get me wrong I love my DSSs but since having DD and trying to get the hang of looking after a newborn and getting some sort of routine established it's seems a relief when they go home. DD just doesn't nap the same when they are here and it just throws her and everything else out. I find during the week nice and calm and relaxing then weekend comes and it's so much harder. It should be the other way round! Hope it will be by the time I go back to work

Anyway rant over. DD now bathed and feeding while she falls asleep bless her

purpleviolet1 · 01/05/2017 21:12

Ahh I was wondering if that was the case!

Namechange good idea!

Ds must be going through a growth spurt, just had some extra milk. I've got menstrual cramps, really strong ones but no sign yet. For those of you with older kids, is the first period really dreadful? Angry

On a positive note we are now 'complete' on our new property! Bought off plan but hoping to get to see the inside this weekend. Will be moving early July hopefully.

Carolann8584 · 01/05/2017 21:55

Oooo glad you asked that. I've had bad cramps today as well, and wondered if it will be bad

purpleviolet1 · 02/05/2017 09:28

AF has appeared ! Just knocking back the painkillers..

Anyone using gripe water? We have been using infacol and although it helped a lot initially, DS has bee really squirmy and in discomfort after feeds so started with gripe water yesterday. It seemed to help. Do you think we should stop the infacol or is it ok to do both?

OP posts:
troodiedoo · 02/05/2017 10:22

Congrats on your property purple.

We've been using gripe water, it has quite an immediate effect to soothe her

First time I put it on the shopping list, dh couldn't read my writing and bought grape juice. (Sadly not wine)

purpleviolet1 · 02/05/2017 10:45

lol troodie that's fine!!!!

OP posts:
purpleviolet1 · 02/05/2017 13:37

Funny not fine...

Well after her bath and feed my DD slept for 6 and a half hours!! She slept straight through her midnight feed and had her 4am feed at 3 instead!

If I had known she was going to sleep that long I would have gone to bed when she did. I just had a couple of hours and woke at midnight to do her bottle and stupidly waited for her to wake up. I kept thinking if I go sleep now she'll wake up.
