And huge respect to EaH, without whose efforts we never would have had a list

(And yes, I am one of those sad people who finds things like temperature sensors in cars really interesting. Nerd.)

Thanks, Kat, I was worried there would be some kind of bowel damage, a little extreme maybe but you know how it is when you're knackered and overanxious and your previously happy baby is in pain!! The doc did say the packet tells you to avoid during breastfeeding as you can't test it, but to be honest I just don't trust him, scoffs at any mention of alternative remedies so it's best I change I think. I would rather have a doctor who is more cautious and says its best to avoid it if we can't test it etc..

Am bored bored bored today.
Wilkie - we have scheduled in an AFN (appointment for nookie) next Saturday! I am off to a spa for the day as part of a hen night so reckond I'd be nice and relaxed (& have had to shaved my legs to appear in public in a swimsuit!) As far as I have heard though, slight bleeding is quite normal after doing the deed as your womb lining is still healing. You can tell that your LO is sleeping longer than mine though - I so can not be bothered with all that at the moment.
BTW - has anyone else noticed that their bodyhair growth is much slower at the moment? My Mum reckons this is due to increased estrogen in the body, but its fab, my bikini line is half what it used to be! Sorry....TMI...like I said....bored bored bored.
If anyone else is following the E.A.S.Y. routine, please can you give me some ideas for the activity part. There is only so many time I can sing 'heads, shoulders knees & toes!' - I know the right words though!

2Happy · 13/03/2007 19:09

Well it's all good news here. They got the blood first time, it confirmed the jaundice but excluded serious causes, so breast milk jaundice it is . The consultant paed said it might persist until he's weaned "at 4 months" (mostly at the idea I'd be weaning at 4m, but partly at the thought that he could be jaundiced for 6m!!), but it's not high enough to cause any problems. Phew! ds2 was fabulous all the way through, and was weighed again and has put another pound on this week!! So despite causing him jaundice, at least my milk is achieving something, lol!

What is the easy routine?? I can give you 6 verses of row your boat, if that's any use!

Activities we do include:

staring at black and white patterns
singing songs
listening to CDs
tickling
bath
baby massage
nappy change
sitting in bouncy chair
lying on a mat on the floor
looking at brightly coloured toys
walking round the flat looking at things
chat (I talk - he listens and occasionaly makes a baby noise and frequently cries)
bouncing/jigging/dancing
sitting on my knee while I talk to friends
looking at mobiles
looking at things around the room
looking in the mirror

We also have a Jungle Gym - a play mat with toys hanging down. He's too little to play with the objects but he can look at them and bat them with his arms and I'm sure he'll learn to play when he's older.

And quite a lot of me doing the housework whilst trying to entertain him.

Any other ideas?

I've also managed to put a photo of DS on my space.

theUrbanDryad · 13/03/2007 19:57

ooh muckypup are you on Myspace??

add me add me! here

Dragonhart · 13/03/2007 20:06

Oh, I remember doing all that for DS1 too! I dont think I got much done in the house as I was always cooing at him.

Poor Ruth! Dont seem to have any time to do all that with her. Always sorting everything for ds1, changing nappies and washing!

Glad all ok 2happy, hope it doesnt last that long- EASY routine is baby whisperer's routine where E stands for 'eat', A stands for 'Activity', S stands for 'sleep' and Y stands for 'you' as in time for you to relax . Supposed to do it every 3 hours at this age then stretch to 4hours at 4 months.

Watched that program last night recorded on sky+. Interesting but did anyone notice how easy that woman was finding breastfeeding!! When I just got home, and for the first few weeks (if not months!) I needed all sorts of paraphinalia to feed DS1; cousions, pillows, breastpads, muslins, bibs, creams for my sore nipples and a glass of water! Not to mention how long it took me to latch him on and check umpteen times that his back was straight and he was comfy. She just whiped it out and placed her on!!!

ellieandhattie · 13/03/2007 20:48

UD you should get an email as added you to my friends on myspace (still havent really worked out how to use it so havent got any 'friends' on there!!!)

Muckypup he's gorgeous love his blond hair

I am also very boreed today ellie is currently having terrible two's 24 hours a day and os generally a stroppy moody little madam when unable to get her own way, went to tesco's this morning she was throwing a paddy so strapped her into the trolley, hence she was screaming Hattie then joined in and some OAP's tuttered 'poor child' well I asked them if they preferred that I let her out to run around or would they then complain about that. Finally finished the shopping when another lady came up to me (in 2.5 years no one has ever come up to me whilst shopping to comment on either dd behaviour!)and she said is there anything I can do to help, would you like me to hold the baby (wtf like I'd let a random stranger hold her) I explained Hattie crying as we were getting near a feed and that Ellie crying becase shes's 2 and having a tantrum and then this lady said to me "have you got post natel depression is that why they are unhappy" wtf did that come from if I did have PND that really wouldnt have been the most helpful comment! even the checkout lady looked bemused and she was lovely said I was doin the right thing ignoring Ellies tantrum and then got a part timer to pack all my bags and got the trolley boy to push the trolley to my car and load my shopping in the boot for me did ring the store when I got home and spoke to manager just to say what a helpful/nice lady she was.

Have to say left tescos went to PO to post UD and Jodies things and they were both so well behaved so maybe tescos were pumping out something in the air that set them both of

carrotcake · 14/03/2007 08:23

that the woman asked you if you had pnd as dd was having a tantrum!! That is extraordinarily inpertinent, I'm amazed you didn't land her one. There is a lady on our road who shouts at parents from behind a screen in her bedroom, if children are crying she threatens to call social services. She is actually mad though, so everyone laughs about it. Poor you though, what a shopping trip, perhaps you should get it delivered and put your feet up instead Not that I'm lazy or anything!

wilkie50 · 14/03/2007 08:39

Morning

EAH - that's terrible - I can't believe people can be so rude!!

Muckypup - what a little dude you have! I know what you mean about entertaining them. Jacob isn't particularly cuddly unless he's tired so it's mainly play gym with his vtech music box, Baby Einstein bouncy chair or laid on a towel with his nappy off. My boy is an exhibitionist - LOVES having his tackle on display, grins widely and kicks his legs. I also sing a lot to him and generally talk bollocks...I sometimes think if anyone could hear me they would think I was mental

Sleeping wasn't great last night. I have been reading the Dr Ferber 'Solve your Child's Sleep Problems' book. It's very good and I really relate to some of it with Jacob - he goes down really well with his bottle at 7.30pm but when he wakes in the night, he can't settle himself back to sleep and so just cries until I go back in and give him another bottle. Problem is that he's not really hungry, he only takes maybe 2oz but I think it is the suckling action that makes him sleepy. Dr Ferber says that children need to learn to settle themselves so when they wake in the night they don't need you to help them get back to sleep. Trouble is - I don't know if it is too early to try and get Jacob to do this or if I should wait a bit longer?? What do you think?

JodieG1 · 14/03/2007 08:48

Wilkie - is it a new book as I know Ferber renounced a lot of his old ideas on babies and sleep. I wouldn't use his methods at all, he used to advocate controlled crying

2happy - Glad the blood test went well.

Anyone on myspace can add me! here I'm newish to it also. Will post more later, hard to type one handed.

ellieandhattie · 14/03/2007 08:59

carrotcake I do normally do internet shopping but my 8.5 months pg best friend an her dd were coming for lunch so was getting the treats!!!(altjough I am incapable of going into any suoermarket for the things I need without also buying £20 of other stuff!!)

Wilkie I am not sure what age to start getting them to settle themselves except we tended to give into Ellie alot and rock her/let her into our bed if it was the middle of the night (like Jacob she was fine going down at bedtime just if she woke at night) and at 2.5 she settles hrself at bedtime but we are still having trouble if she wakes in the night (getting better with sticker charts/rapid return etc)have to say Hattie tends to have her bottle and put back down awake she grizzles for a minute or two and then either lays there looking at her toys on the cot bars or falls asleep.

Jodie will try an attempt to add you as my friend on myspace but really am not very good at it yet!!

\link{My URL
www.myspace.com/michelleparks100\myspace} the only 'friends' I have on there is Tom who runs the site soem girl called toynix who I have no idea how to remove and my fab big brother pete

ellieandhattie · 14/03/2007 09:01

michelles my space

wilkie50 · 14/03/2007 10:21

Confused - what is MySpace? Feel left out

Muckypup · 14/03/2007 10:24

Urbandryad - Sorry I meant click on my profile for the photo - I'm not actually on myspace website but I'm thinking about getting a page.

Wilkie - Does DS have a dummy? Baby Whisperer recommends giving a dummy for 15 minutes first night, 10 minutes 2nd night, 5 minutes 3rd night and eventually by 3 nights they shouldn't wake for the feed if they're not really hungry. That way you don't have to take them out of the cot. Don't know if it works cos Leo is not ready to skip any of his night feeds yet. I'm hoping to try it when he cuts down on the second one a bit.

JodieG1 · 14/03/2007 10:39

eah - thanks, you're on my myspace now It's funny as with dd and ds1 we did the same, co-slept, held to sleep, rocked a lot etc and they both sleep well now (dd 5 and ds1 3). Apart from ds1 getting up at 5-6 am but that's just his personality, he's always on the go and has lots of energy lol. I personally wouldn't worry too much about baby sleeping more at night just yet as they do still need night feeds (more so if bf as it's digested faster than formula) and they're all still so young Enjoy it while you can as it really does go so fast. Seemed like just yesterday that I was bringing dd1 home from hospital and now she's 5 and at school

RGee · 14/03/2007 11:16

Hello. I'm back and almost recovered. Just the odd bit of white fluff left on the back of my thorat, and so far no sign of Pippa having it. Will take me a while to catch up with all the goss, so best get on with it. Back later in the day....

Lizzzombie · 14/03/2007 12:32

Wilkie - does your LO not pee everywhere when he is going commando? I know mine would, but he is never happier than when he is on the changing mat.
Mucky - thanks for list of activities - we do all those, just thought I was missing something. There is quite alot when you list them really, and I suppose they are only little.
I'm on myspace too! Please can I add you as friends to make myself look popular! Feel free to look me up.
fattie

Lizzzombie · 14/03/2007 12:40

Urban, Jodie & E&H I have added you onto my friends on myspace - in case you wonder who I am! (I think I come up as Ugly Betty)

In case anyone else hasnt heard of The Baby Whisperer - & her EASY routine, I can heartily recommend it. It definately works for me.

katwith3kittens · 14/03/2007 13:45

Gosh I'm so impressed with all you girls and your sites - I've not even managed to set up my profile yet!

All your babes are gorgeous by the way

2Happy - glad the results went well and DS doing well. BF babies can be jaundiced for longer than FF but didnt realise it could be up to 6m their face and head will be the last to loose the colour apparently so if his legs and body are normal then it will be disappearing.

E&H - what a nightmare for you.

Lizz - Hi from Newcastle ! keep loads of face flannels near to the changing mat to 'mop up' when going commando. (I only use these flannels for LO btw)They do seem to love it though dont they ? Infact I'm off to do that next.

wilkie50 · 14/03/2007 15:46

WHAT IS MYSPACE [shouting emotion]??????

Lizz - bought some £1 towels from Matalan and just lay that underneath him on the change mat, that way when he pees I just stick the towel in the wash. Have 3 'pee' towels

carrotcake · 14/03/2007 16:11

Oooh, myspace, I used to be on that when I left art school, we tried to keep a writing group going. In fact some of them still do but I found I spent sooo much time on there, completely neglecting my family, in a mad fit one day I wiped my profile (not that I'm prone to mad fits ..
Wilkie, it's an American friends networking site thingy that has spread to here, there's every kind of group on it, lots of bands etc, think Lily Allen started on there? Someone else might explain it better...
I might join up again now I have more time, a current group I go to have started something on it, Mildred or something, now I'm babbling, must be tired

Lizzzombie · 14/03/2007 16:53

I think I do myspace as I have too much time on my hands...its a case of clean the loo, or tell everyone how I should be cleaning the loo!

ellieandhattie · 14/03/2007 17:38

lizz requested to add you to my friends loke at your pics love the one of him smiling with the cheeky tshirt on. Boo hoo I don't show as one of your friends

Wilkie I dont really get myspace just set it up as my brother was doing it, his mt loads of 'lady' friends as I call them on there and he has started seeing someone wo he 'met' on there, if you go to myspace.com you can set up a profile page and then search for other people and add them as friends, myspace email you to see if you want to be their friend and you accept/decline and you can set up a blog etc not really explained it as dont really know how to use it my brothers page is fab and I'll ask him later if he can explain any better.

RGee glad your back and feeling better i have a sore throat today but may be due to excessive shouting yesterday

carrotcake rejoin myspace and we'll get a jan club going on there
