sfxmum · 27/04/2007 21:08

hi all no internet all week in between providers and taking advantage of people who do not encrypt

trib great news congratulations and best of luck with job.

bub - had a look at birth story thanks, would love that speed second time around whenever that may be.

jonah best of luck hope it all happens quickly and safely too.

katz - lets hope it clears up as she gets older, are these things related to the imune system? there seems to be more and more allergies and all sorts of nasties.
i wonder what the research is like in this field

Ladies, don't feel ready for a sleep thread of my own, but ... as many of you know, I have been co-sleeping with ds for basically ever. It's a real pain in the behoozie for me and for him, as I'm sure some of his early wakings are due to me moving about. I've lost count of the mornings I've tried to play musical statues without the music to avoid waking him up.

Obviously we move into a new place on Wednesday, and I remember KVG posting about whether a house move was a good time to try and impose a new routine. What do y'all think? Start as we mean to go on, or break him gently, given what a new house is likely to mean to a nearly-2-year-old?

Uki · 29/04/2007 10:26

Hi All

Bubb _ I'm a little late, but big Congratulations on little Ethan, how wonderful you had quick birth. I'm sure his gorgeous, Does he look similar or different to DS1?

just came back from a wonderful holiday in Fiji, was very tropical, sunsets, fish, coral, lots of sand and swimming -perfect. highly recommend Fiji with DC's so friendly, Fijians love children, although it is a bit far from UK it is worth it.

I'm nearly 25 weeks so going quick now, have lots to do before arrival though.

Not to much happening with the potty training here, attempting it though.

sfxmum · 29/04/2007 12:43

hello everyone

that sounds lovely Ukii think it will be Devon for us this year plus some sort of festival/ camping thing

tib - i am in a sort of similar position, dd sleeps in our room and often ends up in our bed, but she is a bit like her dad so completely unperturbed by alarm clocks, her dad or me getting up, unless of course i am bursting for a pee in which case she must have me cuddle her KNOW!
but i digress
we are planning on doing up her bedroom, currently wardrobe/ office/ dumping groud

also dd seems to have developed a love of trains, she makes me stop on the track by the railway bridge to look at trains and insists on taking pictures, she is out today wearing a girly dress and Thomas sun hat

hope you are all keeping well

Bubbaloo · 29/04/2007 15:28

Hi All,

Trib-No advice on the sleep front here, but hope it all goes well.

Jonah-How exciting, not having too long to go now.Hope you're keeping well.

Uki-Fuji sounds lovely. We booked our hols yesterday and are off to sunny Norfolk in 6 weeks time. Not quite the same as Fuji and can't say I'm looking forward to loading up the car with all the baby bits.
Yes,ds2 does look a bit like ds1 in the sense that they both had/have a nice colour at this age(jaundice) and they were both born with a mop of dark hair too.Had ds2 weighed last week and he was already 9lbs,although he still seems tiny in comparison to Oscar.Had to pop out to Mothercare yet again today,to buy him some more clothes as everything I have is too big.

Sfx-Lol at the pretty dress and Thomas hat.

2Happy · 29/04/2007 16:59

Trib - maybe your moving house is the time to say, he's going to be unsettled anyway by the move, let's get all the upset over and done at once (and goodness knows you could probably do with your bed back!). But IKWYM about too much change sending him over the edge, that still co-sleeping may make the house move less stressful for him, and therefore also for you.

He will have to do it sometime, it's whether or not you can cope with it being now on top of house move stress. All I'd say is we've just had to move ds1 into a big boy's bed (after he broke his cot) and it has been just a complete and total nightmare. But there again, his cousin went into a big bed with absolutely no problems at all. If he's anything like my ds (a poor sleeper generally, and totally set in his ways and hates change) it might be really hard. We're on day 9 now and it still sucks. Depends how much you feel you want to get all the upheaval over and done with. Good luck, though!

lummox · 29/04/2007 17:17

Trib - really hard to advise as only you know your ds, but it might be worth a go to make both changes at once - there would be no associations and you could maybe take him to choose a bed (ds1 really likes his ikea bed), duvet cover, etc.

I know the change has been really hard at the 2Happy's, but we were really lucky and had no probs at all - apart from him falling out a couple of times, which is how we got to the ikea bed which has bits down the side).

Uki - sounds a fab holiday.

sfx - the obsession here is buses, which at least has the advantage that he can see them from the garden.

katz - sorry to hear about dd2.

bubb - am deeply impressed that you are able to think about hols already.

2Happy - hope all going ok. we are still living with the incredible-non-sleeping-baby.

Hi to Mrs W

and to everyone else.

2Happy · 29/04/2007 19:43

Ooh, Trib, I hate to speak too soon, but ds1 is actually asleep! At a reasonable bedtime hour! Maybe there is hope after all...

at Lummox. Sorry the baby isn't sleeping. ds2 is a sleep angel compared with ds1

katzg · 30/04/2007 11:13

transfer to bed in 10 days and the count down begins!

2Happy · 30/04/2007 11:28

Scrub my last message. dh went to check ds1 last night to find him on his hands and knees on the floor, face pressed into the carpet asleep.

JonahB · 30/04/2007 13:40

We're planning to do the "big boys bed" swap next weekend. Not looking forward to this at all. We moved the cot to the new bedroom last weekend (trying to break up the stages). The good news is that DS loves his new room and loves playing on the bed. The bad news is that DS loves playing on the bed - crawling over the end and launching himself, crawling under the bed and laughing to himself, dangling head first off the side...... you get the picture. I can definitely see a copy of 2happy's household over here.......

2Happy · 30/04/2007 14:18

Trying to get him down for his nap now...I think I'm just going to get someone to build me an adult bed-sized cot

Good luck Jonah and Katz!

MrsWednesday · 30/04/2007 20:30

Good luck to all those moving to big boy/girl beds! I think we'll need to do the same with DS2 soon, he's getting very close to being able to climb out of his cot now, and can already undo his grobag and take his pyjamas off at will. Arrgh, it was a nightmare with DS1 so I've got fingers crossed DS2 will be easier. Perhaps your DS1 could give all of ours lesssons on how to cope with big boys beds Lummox?

2Happy, have you got bed guards for your DS1? Bless him, falling asleep on the carpet.

Nearly there Jonah - make sure you enjoy some rest before the next one comes along! Babies are after all easier to look after when they are in your tummy...

Uki, the holiday sounds lovely. If anyone is interested, we've just bought a house in France and it's available to rent most of this year - will do a discount for Junies obviously! It's in the south west, near the beach, and it's child-friendly.

Advert over...

Trib, hope the move is going well, let me know if you want a hand with anything at the weekend. Would tentatively agree that it might be better to bite the bullet and do the sleep thing all in one go, but can see both sides of the argument to be honest (blimey, that was helpful wasn't it?!)

I'm supposed to be revising for my exams at the moment - two weeks left, can't bloody wait until I'm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee of all this tedious studying. Sigh.

Katz, did you decide what to do about your hair? Still haven't got round to getting a picture taken of mine and it needs a trim now so not the best advert for doing it

Love the sundress and Thomas hat outfit sfxmum

Right, will endeavour to close down mumsnet for the night and crack on...

Uki · 01/05/2007 12:39

Hi Again

Mrs Wed- congrats on the house, how fab very indeed.

My ds has been in a double low down bed for ages now, we do alot of books in bed till he goes to sleep, but he calls out for us more than get out , and pillows on each side stop him falling out.
It was funny on holidays as he slept in a KING bed all on his own. I think the Fijians thought it was weird he had such a big bed to himself, talk about spoilt.

Sfx we have a train fanatic too, he is always on the look out for trains and carried his thomas bag and trains all over Fiji. I left thomas engine on the plane though so dh brought him a new one, lucky it was on the way home.

tribpot · 01/05/2007 18:23

katzg · 04/05/2007 11:03

katz - are you okay for next weekend? I guess it's a bit up in the air. Hope dd1 isn't too poorly.

katzg · 07/05/2007 07:57

not sure yet, what i might do is leave the dd's with DH, dd1 might be ok to come but concerned dd2 might be habouring it, so will have to wait and see.

God, what a nightmare end to the bank holiday weekend. My lovely friend D came up from London to help me with moving. We went to the Slug and Lettuce in town to have lunch before she got the train home, and when we came to leave we realised her handbag had been stolen Couldn't believe it; some guy had sat at the next table and somehow managed to swipe it, even though it was jammed right up between her chair and suitcase.

Contents:

  • purse with all her cards
  • house keys
  • mobile phone
  • diary/address book (handwritten)
  • train ticket
  • travel pass
  • pass to get into work
  • 300 quid digital camera

She's gone back to London (burst into tears in the station so they let her go in first class!) to stay with another friend of ours as she can't get back into the flat til she can make contact with her flatmate, and she doesn't know where he works exactly (quite odd, but there we are).

What a nightmare, wish he had stolen my bag instead as I have everything backed up electronically except cash!
