Hi kseaj - thanks for the welcome

bristols · 18/02/2007 16:23

Afternoon Ladies,

Welcome to JustJAMtart and Ivor. We really are a fab lot so feel free to drop in as often as you like!

We've had a very busy weekend. Some friends came to stay with their two DSs. One is 5 1/2 months old (two days older than my ds) and the other three years old. As you can probably imagine, it was mayhem. But good fun. DH and I got an idea of the shape of things to come...

I cooked a big roast for us all and DH is now letting me have a little rest. I'm being spoilt - reclining on the sofa with a box of belgian chocs, MNing with QVC (guilty pleasure - sorry ) What more could a girl want??!

DH just come in and put the football on. I knew it was too good to last.

I'd be interested in any bath seat recommendations too. We're about ready for one and I don't know where to start.

Speak soon, DS going nuts. Tears and everything!

bristols · 18/02/2007 18:06

BTW, forgot to mention earlier that we dropped DS's dreamfeed on Thursday night and he's slept through ever since. Lovely. Means I can have a really early night if I want to now. I have been known to sleep for twelve hours in a row, myself, from time to time

Also, was thinking of getting DS a playnest. He likes to see what's going on and they look really comfy. Do you think he's a bit old now? I have no experience of them so please let me know your opinions. Thank you!

Coriander73 · 18/02/2007 18:10

Hello! Welcome newbies!! We're a fab bunch, really we are...much nicer than in some other threads we could mention! Petit filous anyone?

Hey bristols, I cooked a big roast today too for first time in ages! DH said it was the best one I've ever done...I didn't think it was that good (well, maybe these things never taste as nice when you have cooked them yourself?)...then I put the footie on!!! Been a Spurs fan since I was 5 (very painful hobby!) but we've just spanked Fulham 4-0 away in the 5th rd FA cup...yippeee.... DH HATES football...he is a rugby man! Anyhow sorry for going compleatly off the thread!

Hmmm..J has very red eyes, they look very watery & he is sneezing a lot so I imagine he has a cold? He seems to have slept all day more or less & is still asleep now when we should be winding down for bath etc. I'm sure DD must have had days like that but I can't remember what we did.....do we wake him at 6.30 for babygro & bottle or just leave him? Will he sleep through??!! As he has been off colour & not finishing his bottles I've not given him any food yet...didn't see much point if he's leaving milk etc....can't wait to start though

liquidclocks · 18/02/2007 20:10

justJAMtart - welcome!

Ivor - don't be too mean to those from the USA, we've a few from that side of the pond on this thread (and Marls doesn't like to be called an american but haven't figured out yet what to put instead...)

Pulses just make a good protein addition to vegetable puree - carrots, peppers, courgettes etc. BTW, I'm ve rusty on what foods are supposed to be introduced when so look in your books before you go off making leek and lentil mush

Cori - yummy! I nicked some of DS1's framage frais before I gave it to him tonight, I don't think he noticed...

DS2's eczema is improving just 4 days into the new milk BUT it smells like horlicks (yuck, hate the stuff - but is it yeasty?) and he has developed a thrushy looking rash under his chin which is permanently soggy now as the milks not thickened anymore, and he has red spots on his bum - I'm thinking 'out of the frying pan into the fire'! [exasperated emoticon]!

Ivor · 18/02/2007 22:21

I did'nt mean my comment to sound as if I was being nasty about Americans, my DS absolutly adores this woman, he can't keep his eyes off her and constantly jabbers to her!
Deapest apologies to Marls if any offence has been caused

liquidclocks · 18/02/2007 23:08

sorry Ivor, didn't mean to worry you! Don't worry - none of us are easily offended

bensmum4 · 19/02/2007 00:41

Hi,
I usually just browse,my dd was born 16th sept (although not due to middle oct)
Just thought I would say the Tigex bath seat is great, its the moulded plastic seat that sits in the bath and lo can just lie back and you can wash without having to hold them, ds used it until about 11 months.

mabel1973 · 19/02/2007 11:48

welcome to Ivor and justjamtarts - you will definately enjoy this hread, even if we can't always help with advice, everyone is very supportive.

Bristols, well done at dropping the dream feed....but quite honestly hearing that has left me despairing......for a good 2 or 3 weeks now DS has been on 7 feeds a day, He is having a night feed anywhere btween 3.00am and 5.45am, I jus don't know what to do ...ladies please help me , any advice????
I started weaning about a week and a half ago, hoping this would help, but it's made no difference. He is on 2 puree's a day one at 10.30ish and one at 4ish, to which I add some milk and baby rice. On saturday he slept til 5.45am, which was a big improvement, but this monring it was 3.15am, I can't see a pattern at all which would explain the early waking, I am worried that I shouldn' have stared weaning in case he needs more molk, but on 7 feeds a day, he must be getting enough surely!!!

My other dilemma is i have a wedding reception to go to on saturday and need a top, don't have time to go shopping and have found nothing on the internet that I like....feel very tired and fed up today!

Coriander73 · 19/02/2007 12:58

Mabel, could it be that he is waking through habit rather than being hungry? Maybe time to consider going cold turkey & going in to soothe him but not offering any milk? If he is on solids now too then I personally think he is taking enough in during the day to not warrant an extra feed during the night! My doctor said that by 3-4 months they do not need any feeds at all during the night...how right she is I don't know but it worked for us both times not feeding after 11pm. As for the top..hmm...how smart does it have to be? I assume if your BF too you're a bigger size on top than normal? Have you tried Crave maternity? They normally have some really nice tops & always something in the sales (which happen regularly)..Or M & S on line or Boden?....

fairysnuff · 19/02/2007 12:59

HI Mabel,
My DD has been doing the same for about the same time too
I am not stressing about it, just getting on and figuring that it is a growth spurt. She has gone form 12.8 to 14 in that time scale, so I am happy that she is gaining. I am also still exclusivly BF, so can't help you on the weaning front.
But maybe knowing you are not alone will help?
Sorry about the top thing, can't really help you with that one. I have a family do coming up and havn't started looking even!
Just wear what ever and dash into the loos to wip it off!!!haha

ezridax · 19/02/2007 13:35

Hi JustJamTarts

Mabel - my LO eats several times during the night so i can't imagine what's going on there.

Check out coho breastfeeding for hip mothers - got some nice stuff on there. I'll get around to ordering from there some time.

Myrtle1 · 19/02/2007 13:47

Mabel, Fairy, my DS wakes every night at around 4am without fail. I think it is habit. Last night he was up at 1:30 and had a good long feed and then he woke at 4am and just wasn't really hungry at all so I put him back to bed and he slept til 7. Tonight I will try soothing him rather than feeding. I hope he gets out of the habit soon as I'm going back to work in 2 weeks and don't want to be too knackered!

Mabel, re the top. Have you tried fcukbuymail.com, they had nice things in the sale or Asos.com or Warehouse are online too.

It looks like we will be moving down to Ilminster/Yeovil area as DH is going to accept the job. We're going to try and go and have a look around sometime soon. Its exciting but sad at the same time as we'll be starting over again and having to make new friends etc...

compo · 19/02/2007 13:58

Sorry to hear about babies waking up in the night.
Mabel - there are quite a few nice long floaty tops in Bay Trading Co if you've got one - a gorgeous greeny colour or purple
Started dd on the baby rice today - don't think much went in, she pushed most back out. Think I might try something like sweet potato tomorrow to see if she likes that.

Ivor · 19/02/2007 15:20

Hi all,
Mabel my DS was doing the same thing even when we got him onto solid food, a friend of mine surgested that we should try soothing instead of feeding when he wakes in the middle of the night. I think they just get into a pattern and enjoy the suckling rather than actually eating, little sods!
So for the last couple of weeks, when he wakes we (take turns with DH ) re-insert binky, and go back to bed. If he keeps on crying I'll go and give him a feed, I just can't do that controlled crying thing drives me up the wall!
But he has now slept through from 6:30 to 6:30 two days in a row, (hope I haven't just jinxed it), amazing I keep waking up in the middle of the night not knowing what to do!
Keep at it, it'll work out in the end.
Sorry can't help with the top thing, useless at clothes shopping, hope you have a nice time though

Marls001 · 19/02/2007 16:39

LOL, LOL Ivor - Welcome! Actually I want to know what's considered "American" (really, I do!) ... and don't worry; I'm too much of an anglophile to be going any time soon When I have to be off the thread for a while I miss y'all

Liquid - "American": don't mind it myself, just didn't want to offend anyone
Others on this continent are the ones who hate it. Not Canadians, since it allows them to say "We're not American!" ... but South Americans really hate that "American" is monopolized by the US, since they're technically Americans too.

Welcome justjamtarts too!

Happy to say I think Jameson has stopped waking in the night; sleeps solidly from 7:00 to 5:00/5:45am - woken between 9 & 10 or so for his last feed.

Still doesn't want anything on a spoon.

I will post pics at some point ... probably March the way my art is going [worried emoticon]

JustJAMtart · 19/02/2007 17:51

thank you all for the lovely welcome!!!

poor DD is teething big time the last few days, poor love doesn't know what to do with herself...thank God for nelsons/ashton & parsons

JingleBelle · 19/02/2007 18:06

There is always so much to catch up on every time I get a chance to log on!
Welcome JustJamTarts and Ivor!
Mabel - what size are you? I just went to a wedding this weekend and had to buy a new top for it - black & white bustier/corset top in size 14 (UK). Expect you are probably smaller than me, but would be happy to loan it to you if you are interested (you probably want an excuse to buy something new, but if you're still a different size to normal and like me, hoping to get back to pre-pregnancy size, you might not want to spend too much). Will not be offended at all if you aren't interested, just thought I would offer - it is easily teemed with any black or white bottoms (i.e. skirt/trousers). Can post a pic on my profile if you are interested. But in any case, if you have a decent sized Debenhams near you I would recommend it for wedding wear, as they have a good selection of dresses/tops, etc across the range of brands they have in there.
DS rolled on to his front this weekend, but only by pulling himself up on his playgym - mostly he kind of pulls himself half over and then can't get his arm out from underneath, but he has got over a few times and then quite quickly gets agitated about being on his front, which is daft, as I know he can already roll onto his back from his front, but he seems to have forgotten how! No sign of sitting on his own though, but he kind of tries to from his bouncer, so think we might need to get a bumbo!
Am perservering on not going to solids for another 2.5 weeks, just due to reflux - bringing up is getting much better, so hopefully the next couple of weeks will allow his gut to be ready for solids. Am going to chat to hv about it on weds at weighing though - don't want to be depriving him!
Had a night away from him on Sat - went to friends' wedding up north without DS and my Mum babysat - was very strange, but also fun. Did give him lots of cuddles when I got back though. Really missed him lots and felt very weird being able to get ready into wedding outfit without worrying about getting babysick on it .
Right - DH is doing his bath, bottle and bed tonight and I need to go warm the bottle for him, so had better go and do it and get our dinner ready for before DH goes out.
P.S. My house is a tip and so much housework needs doing, but I have a cold and have done nothing today - will I ever get housework done again?!
Liquid - know what you mean about the milk, I don't like the taste of it myself, but DS loves it, but it is very liquid (no pun intended!)
By the way, did I mention that my gorgeous DS is just seeming so much happier now, a) since he's on bottles and as it's so liquid it seems to stay down better and b) as his reflux is dying down (I think). He is just so lovely - proud mum alert!

JustJAMtart · 19/02/2007 20:06

Quickie question

For those who have taken their LO to stay overnight somewhere, how did they get on???

kseaj · 19/02/2007 20:54

justjamtarts ds is going to stay over night with grandparents on saturday it will be his first time.

Altho iam looking forward to a break, going for a drink with friends i have mixed feelings about letting him go.

Is your lo about to stay over with someone?

JustJAMtart · 19/02/2007 21:11

hi kseaj...with grandparents this week, I'll be there too but don't know how DD will be sleeping in a different house/room.

The aim is to be able to leave DD with my mum and dad overnight if needs be....wish I started doing it earlier really, DD is more aware now IYKWIM

kseaj · 19/02/2007 21:19

we went to my brothers at christmas and he did not settle untill 12.30 me and dh took turns in going up and down the stairs trying to comfort him, i think he knew that we were in a different house. Thats part of my worry about saturday we will not be staying with him.

I have two more children so really want a break and he needs to get use to staying with other people.

Maybe if you take something with you that will remind lo of home toy or ted, thats what i will be doing.

compo · 19/02/2007 21:20

Hi JustJAM
We have taken ds (2.10) lots of times to grandparents and have just taken dd for her first visit too. She was fine. And we even stayed a night in a hotel without them both for the 1st time since ds was born!
Dd was fine - a bit unsettled the first night but once she was asleep she was fine. I was paranoid that it migght disrupt her good sleeping patterns but honestly it was as if she didn't know we were away. Hope that helps.

JustJAMtart · 19/02/2007 21:24

visited mum today...took 40 mins to get DD to fall asleep for her nap

I did take her teddy and blanket she sleeps with, and have been letting her nap in travel cot here (which was fine) just hope now she has napped there once next time won't be so bad...I'll let you know

thanks guys

fairysnuff · 19/02/2007 22:39

I took my DD to her grandparents for Christmas too. She was absolutely fine, she didn't break with her routine at all.
We also left her at my parents for a night before christmas too and she stayed up a bit longer but that was cos my mum didn't follow her routine the same way I do.
Forgot to tell her I feed DD in the bedroom with lights practically out. My mum fed her in the living room with telly on and everything, so when she tried to put her down, it obvously didn't work. Poor mum!
Have not tried it since though, so would be interested to see how your LO gets on Justjam.
Am a little scared to think of taking her to a hotel. How would you listen? Do you have to stay in the room or have a mega good monitor? Mine picks up interferance (sp?) when I charged my Mobile!!?
Not that I am planning a night away in a hotel, but interested in how it would work.
