C has stopped being sick and thankfully 1001 spray appears to have saved the carpet. I now have a dodgy feeling tummy though. Dh was out last night and announced this morning that he didn't feel like he could drive so I'm on swimming and gymnastics duty with ds, I hope there's not too much trampoline this week!

Ftm luckily ds goes to a nursery that provides food, I don't think I could stand the pressure of him coming home and announcing that the other kids have better lunches than him! At least at this age any food envy they have will be forgotten as soon as it is cleared away.

juni · 06/11/2016 05:34

Oh. My. Word. Night 2 of sleep training and having been awake on Friday night every hour plus 3 hours in the middle of the night, tonight she's been sound asleep since 7.30 plus she had 2 great naps in her cot for the first time ever! Maybe it's exhaustion from Friday night and I'm sure we'll have some rough nights but I cannot believe how effective this has been. Just need to train myself to sleep now (she says having been awake since 4am)

juni · 06/11/2016 05:39

Oh, and thanks for all your kind 'welcomes'! Smile

DomesticAnarchist · 06/11/2016 07:25

Oh wow, maybe I need to follow suit.

These boots nappies (that I still have a significant stash of) are leaking Angry DS2 has been sleeping on his front the last few nights and he's been damp every morning.

Me624 · 06/11/2016 07:57

Dom you may remember I was having the same problem with DS a few weeks ago. I tried a few different brands, putting two nappies on which worked for a few nights but then leaking again. He's now in pampers active fit at night and these haven't leaked for ages. The baby dry ones which are supposedly better for nighttime didn't fit him as well. Every baby seems to be different though!

Welcome juni and I hope sleep training continues to work for you!

FTM my nursery also provides all food. I actually feel a little bit sad about the fact that I won't be cooking for my boy hardly at all once he starts at nursery. I think it's just all part of my general mothers guilt at going back to work full time and realising how much someone else will be looking after him Sad

If I did have to do packed lunches for him I think I'd be going with little sandwiches, fruit, rice cakes, yoghurt etc? How is he with finger foods?

DomesticAnarchist · 06/11/2016 08:14

Oh yes, packed lunches.

Me, don't feel guilty about it, packed lunches are a total faff and they seem to eat the school/nursery/childminder lunches better anyway!

I'm sending a little packed lunch with DS2 at the moment. I put in something for breakfast (we leave too early) like crumpet, or scotch pancake or hot cross bun (his favourite), some fruit purée that he can have the aforementioned breakfast things dipped in (won't take it from a spoon) toast fingers with Philadelphia on or a cheese & broccoli biscuit, a bit of veg like broccoli, baby corn or carrot (cooked. He usually leaves it). Some cheese sticks, and a bunch of snack bits like rice cakes, wafer, goodies crispy things. Sometimes he eats it, sometimes he doesn't.

DS1 desperately wants packed lunches but while he gets a free dinner on the government he's having school dinners!

I've got at least 2 more unopened packs of boots nappies left but I'll bear that suggestion in mind when they run out. Thanks!

FirstTimeMummy25 · 06/11/2016 09:37

Thanks for the lunch suggestions... he's ok with finger food such as rice cakes but sandwiches and anything else he kind of squishes and makes a mess but doesn't do much eating. I give him puréed food normally with finger food along side but I know he needs to eat more finger food so maybe I'll send that and leave her an emergency stock of purée just in case?!

Dottydoodoo · 06/11/2016 18:00

Ugh, The Snot is back Sad. Poor DS was awake last night every hour, and then from 1.30 to 4.30, then slept through until 6.45. I am knackered today! So is he, but he has been such a little trooper today, he's just grizzled but the jumperoo has put a stop to that for a few minutes. We are going to go up for a bath soon, then have a bottle and snuggles with in the night garden, and then bed. I'm praying for a better nights sleep tonight, poor little baby. We used the calpol vapour plug in last night, it did help but my goodness it's a bit strong!

mrsells I'm glad that DD stopped being sick and desperately hope that your dodgy tummy turned out to be nothing.

juni wow that's amazing, well done! Long may it continue, and hopefully you will get some more sleep tonight too.

Dom oh no, how infuriating. I'm sworn off boots nappies ever since one leaked a poo all over my dress that I was wearing whilst at a wedding!

Right, I'm off to get my poor little boy ready and off to bed and then I think I might go myself!

MrsElls · 06/11/2016 18:59

juni that's great progress for sleep training, hope it continues. DD has just had a super quick bedtime feed so I'm expecting an early wake up call Sad. Although we had cauliflower curry for dinner and she seemed to like it so fingers crossed she is just full up on food!

ftm the best thing for sandwiches at this stage are Warburton's thins cut into triangles as it holds the shape better than fingers. Less bulk than a sandwich so much easier to manage and they defrost in about 10 mins so great to have in the freezer.

Thanks dotty my dodgy tummy didn't turn into anything significant thankfully! I can sympathise with the snot, ds is like a dripping snot tap at the moment, DD seems to be avoiding it so far.

FirstTimeMummy25 · 06/11/2016 19:40

Thank you for all the lunch tips - Dom cooked veg sounds a good idea he liked chewing on broccoli early however chocked on half a grapeConfusedBlush

Mrsellis- hadn't thought of that but what a good idea I'll pick some up tomorrow food shopping.
DS only took 1oz tonight before bed so I'm the same as you and wondering if we are going to have an early wake up. DS was sleeping through for a week or so after his bad episode but we had his usual 2am wake for an hour last night he was hysterical and downed 6oz so maybe was hungry. Bit the bullet and brought a britax dualfix thunder from Halfords today as had £70 off which I think someone mentioned on here so thank you. Can't believe the price of car seats though especially rear facing ones which I wanted.

Dotty sorry to hear you have a poorly baby, I'm not surprised colds are going about though it's got cold all of a sudden, I don't feel like there has been much of a transition just from being hot to cold.

Ohwoolballs · 06/11/2016 19:41

Hello strangers, I haven't popped on here for months but I have been checking in every now and again.
DS is seven months. Things are going well. He is sitting up, shuffling but not crawling, has cut six teeth in less than a month (God bless Calpol.)
We still Co sleep, though are trying to get him in the cot. Juni welcome! Your sleep training sounds amazing! What did you do? We tried controled crying but in three mins DS was at the red and coughing screams...
Also still bf! We had gotten messy with nipple shields and still using them at six months. I really had had enough and I went out and bought formula and new MAM bottle to try but he wasn't having any of it. We then had two horrific nights which he cut his first two teeth at the bottom and since then haven't had to use shields at all.... It was so surreal I cried at every feed of the day with happiness. DS must have had a tie that only teeth could help with the latch. He still won't take a bottle though.

I've been doing a couple of KIT days at work and I'm excited to go back part time after Christmas though worried that DS still won't take water from a feeder cup or bottles of formula.

juni · 06/11/2016 20:51

Sorry to hear about all the poorly babies - stuffy noses really do suck and sound so much worse in little ones!
Ohwool you sound in a similar position to me, although we have no teeth yet - nipples guards still at 7 months that were making night feeds especially a pain in the backside and co-sleeping.
So, the lady told me to cut night feeds (DD is on 3 meals a day plus 4 BF) completely and stop feeding to sleep. So, dinner, bath time, boob, book and into cot awake. Say a night night phrase and leave - go back in every 2 mins til she sleeps. Took 20 mins the first night and since then (admittedly only a couple of days) she's gone down for her naps and for the night with about 10 mins sleepy grumbling so I haven't been going back in as it would disturb her. This from a few days ago where I was having to do a kind of status quo walk around the room with her in a sling to get her to nap. In hind sight I think she just wanted rid of me!
Interestingly lady said by this age night feeds are actually detrimental as they give them a sugar boost, waking them up and stopping the body from fasting and having a rest which is what it naturally wants to do!

Ohwoolballs · 06/11/2016 21:16

Juni thank you for your reply! The pita that nipple shields are! It was literally tooth Thurs, tooth Fri, shields off on Sat. I hope this works for you too, the night feeds were a nightmare and I hated feeding in public.
I will definitely take your method and give it a good go! Since introducing food I don't think his day time milk has decreased so he doesn't need the extra night feeds, it's definitely a comfort thing. You've given me a real boost! Since it's already my third time tonight laying in the bed that's in his room I think we will have to start tomorrow... Grin

DomesticAnarchist · 06/11/2016 21:54

Ha! Dotty, I've had 3 poosplosions in the last 4 days too!

FTM, yeah, I'm not giving grapes yet! Possibly not for several months. Even raisins & blueberries terrify me at this stage (although raisins are fascinating when they come through the system un-chewed. I'll let you discover that delight!)

I've done DS2's for the morning and not put any veg in this time. He's got little ham finger sarnies, and some yoghurt (the only thing he'll take from a spoon) and some other bits & bobs.

Hi OhWool!

Interesting idea about night feeds Juni. Neither of mine have been woken up by feeds though - rather the opposite! (Even with the dummy-sucking co-sleeping one).

DS2 is still squeezed in the SnuzPod. I have no intention of putting him in his room (with DS1) until he's sleeping through. If I've got to wake up overnight, I'm not traipsing around the house! Also not keen on sleep training during term time as I can't afford to lose any of the little sleep I currently get. Maybe xmas... maybe I'll just see if he does it himself. We tried some very traumatic sleep training with DS1. Gave it up as there was less sleep for everyone. He sorted himself out eventually.

Put the new car seat in DHs car tonight. The maxi cosi axissfit? It's solid in there! (It's our first isofix seat!) and spins to put the baby in. Love it! Makes my old britax first class plus look old and ropey though. Might have to buy a new cover.

DomesticAnarchist · 06/11/2016 22:20

I brought that on myself, didn't I?! I posted while feedingDS2 back to sleep. Put him down, brushed my teeth and now he's wide awake chatting to me. Good job he's cute!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 07/11/2016 08:19

Hi all delurking here! Hello and welcome juni

Sorry to hear youre still having trouble time. I can't remember but did you end up having your dd checked for cows milk protein allergy? I have hear stories of that causing excessive crying. Also as someone else said have you tried putting her to sleep in a dark room? Dd2 will only nap in a darkened room which is a pita as means either im stuck in the house or go out and do something and end up with overtired baby. Its dd1s third birthday today and am currently trying to get dd2 to nap before we go out for the day... With no success. I feel your pain with nap refusing as dd2 often does it, usually connected to develeopment leap or teething (both of which she is going through now). Its frustrating when you know they are tired and need a nap but they cant switch off. Dd2 very tired now but currently rolling and dragging herself around the cot Hmm

Not sure I believe the whole "sugar boost" theory about night feeds (sorry!), with bf at least as breast milk is known to contain a hormone that induces sleepiness. But then I definitely am a big believer that a lot of babies do still need a night feed or two until they are anywhere between 9 months and a year. Very much depends on the individual baby, how much food they eat during the day, how big they are, their metabolism etc etc i remember waking in the night when pregnant and wanting to eat, so there are times even as an adult where your calorific needs mean you want to eat in the night. Of course, if cutting out night feeds works for you, then that's great Smile

I think our current problems with sleep stem from dd2 being cold - it was 14 degrees in her room last night (and the last couple of nights). I brought her into my bed at 2 and she slept through until dd1 woke us up at 6.30. Much better than past few nights where she's woken at 2 and then 4 and then I've brought her into out bed. Our portable heater is broken, so going to have to get a new one pronto!

Ohwoolballs · 07/11/2016 10:12

Morning Dom and marmite

I'm back to umming about sleep training. I'll speak to the health visitors when I go on weds to get him weighed.
Terrible night here, so clingy! As soon as I started to move away he clung on like a wee baby monkey. I think it's a teeth thing but now you've mentioned the cold..... It feels like I'd spent summer making sure it didn't get too hot and now I think it could be too cold! I also think nomming on my boob is a bit of teething pain relief. Very few actual nips thankfully. He got up at six and has just fallen asleep on me so I've stuck episode one of The Crown on.

Dom I think G would prefer we just did baby led weaning! I'm still wanting to get something warm in him, thankfully he LOVES pasta in butter nut squash and sweet potato sauce. That's pretty much all he will take from a spoon. We tried quarterd and peeled grapes a few times but he isn't impressed. (not when they make brilliant projectiles to chuck at the cat)

Also he has decided he hates Ella's Porridge so I had a massive bowl this morning. Probably the most expensive bowl I've ever had 😁

juni · 07/11/2016 10:38

Hi Marmite - agree re: night feeds - never would have considered cutting them myself as BF DS until he was a year - day and night! But he always went straight back to sleep whereas this one just wants to party after a night feed... They just like to be different to keep us on our toes. I did feel really emotional about moving out of DD's room and stopping the night feeds but the stress of her not sleeping was triggering PND and I had to act for both our sakes!
Also agree re: the cold especially now she's not in with me. 2.5 tog sleeping bag and she's much happier.

LOL ohwool - exactly the same irritating my DH by obsessing over too hot all summer and now too cold!

QforCucumber · 07/11/2016 13:10

Afternoon all. CHECKING back in after a few crazy days, terrible d&v bug last week, ended up taking ds to a and e as he had his tongue out and was wheezing. Scary but all good now.
ftm ds s also going to be going to a nursery which provides all meals, I'm actually glad I won't have to run about on a morning trying to sort breakfast out, Ivery got no idea what I'd send but made vegetable nuggets and spinach and feta pancakes for tea the last few nights which refrigerate well.

Back to work 4 weeks today, 2 days a week in December then full time in Jan. Makes me sad but also looking forward to earning more than measly SMP.

TheMshipIsBack · 07/11/2016 14:03

ohwool I had a bottle refuser too - it took a week and a half of me being at work full time before DD would take a bottle. We just gritted our teeth, fed her a lot of prune puree, and hoped. The Munchkin Latch brand was what finally caught on. She happily takes them now (I've been back at work almost 2 months, she's 8 months today!) but still prefers bf when it's available. I'm down to pumping once a day, we mixed formula in gradually with the expressed milk and now she's fine to take either separately or mixed. She's never wanted much water, but will take a sip or two; that came around the same time as the bottle acceptance.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 07/11/2016 14:26

Just checked DD2s teeth and her top one has cut through! May explain the better sleep last night!

Definitely agree you need to do what you need to do to maintain sanity juni! Was more sceptical about the night feed-sugar link.

I'm also back to work in December, part time (using holiday) and full time in Jan q. Am also sad but happy to be getting paid again. I was stressed about dd2 taking milk from a cup but we've got the munchkin 360 and she will happily sip water from that so hoping it'll be the same for milk. We'll see!

Dottydoodoo · 07/11/2016 15:58

I am trapped under a sleeping snotty baby.

Last night was a lot better, still four wake ups but DS was a lot easier to settle. He cries every time he coughs, poor little boy.

mrsells I'm glad your tummy was ok. Your poor DS I hope he isn't too snotty and feels better soon. I didn't think of the warburtons thins but that is a really good idea, I'll try DS with one as a sandwich. His current favourite is a thin bagel with Philadelphia.

Dom haha! I hope he went to sleep quickly. Boo to the poosplosions, they are not fun.

marmite I bought a munchkin 360 cup today, I have heard good things! DS has got the basic tommee tippee sippy cups but he doesn't manage that well with them. If he does it himself he just waved it around everywhere, and if I do it too much water comes out which he doesn't like and then he won't drink any more. I'm excited to try the 360 so I will report back.

Well I'm still trapped under a sleeping baby. I'm borrrreddddd! And I was going to have a chocolate biscuit. Never mind!

MrsElls · 07/11/2016 18:11

Well I have just successfully managed to put ds on the potty whilst continuing to bf dd, talk about mummy multi tasking! I am however now bfing next to a potty full of wee...

I think ds is teething again as she is fairly easily upset at the moment and has nice red cheeks. She's only got the bottom two so must be due some more soon!

DomesticAnarchist · 07/11/2016 20:16

Evening all!

Oh Q, that sounds all kinds of awful. Glad all has settled now.

Dotty he went back to sleep after about 40 mins, which wasn't bad. He was so smiley and lovely! We had some giggles and cuddles and he snoozed off holding my hand. So cute! (And then slept for 5 hours before he woke up again ShockGrin)

Sympathy for the teething woes. DS2 finally popped his second lower today.

And I had my first day at work without pumping at all! Although I've had the pump on standby all day! And DS2 must've had a gigantic feed when we got home! He's taken less formula milk today but his solid-eating has really ramped up in the last couple of days (probably helped by teeth finally appearing).

Ohwoolballs · 08/11/2016 09:58

Righto, I'll have a look at the Munchkin 360s since it's seems to be a winner with lots of your babes. Cheers Marmite and Mship I think G will do the same as T when I go back to work and just save himself for a big feed! He did on my KiT day, much to my mums distress. Can I stick formula and expressed milk in the Munchkin does anyone know?

We went to a friend's for a few fireworks last night and G enjoyed it I think. They were pretty quiet but he did have a face like the baby seal meme for a while. 😁 he also decided to take a massive chunk of DPD hotdog, I suppose it is a bonfire night staple.

Dotty hope baby is feeling better today!

Anyone else on the look out for snow? We've been forecast it for tonight, I'm on the edge of North Yorkshire.

G is down for a sleep and I'm watching Walking Dead, not as scary when it's daytime.
