Me I don't blame you for wanting to get a playpen. I would get one in a second if we had the space for it. I don't know why they're so hated - babies love them!

Dotty We never got those foam corner things because a friend had them and told us not to bother because their baby kept pulling them off and trying to eat them! We ended up getting rid of our coffee table when ds1 started pulling himself up because he banged his head against it around 10000x a day and I got fed up of it. We have the Dualfix too and I love it! It's great when they fall asleep in the car and you can really quickly and easily recline it.

MrsElls I can't believe your ds never went through the raiding the cupboard stage - you're so lucky! It was one of my most hated stages with ds1.

DomesticAntichrist · 31/10/2016 21:46

Evening all,

DS2 is much better, thanks. Although the spots came up yesterday he was much better than he was on Saturday. Back to normal today (though still spotty!) He slept pretty well last night, fed at midnight at 5:30 I think. I closed my eyes briefly before the alarm went off at 6am. That was disappointing! And then he didn't want feeding again before I left so I had explody-boobs by break time!
(Had to keep reminding myself I'm now pumping for comfort primarily).

On saturday night he was awake for a couple of hours. I saw both 1am's!

I don't think we'll baby proof much. We'll dig a stair gate out, and the cleaning cupboard already has a lock on it. And I think th he travel cot will come out as a play pen. DS1's LEGO is going to be the main problem, I think! Fortunately no sign of crawling here yet!

Ah, car seats! DH bought a maxi cost axissfit today (he was off with DS2). £100 off in Halfords at the moment for the red one).

How have I gone back after a week off to be so completely behind in everything?! Must get marking...

FirstTimeMummy25 · 31/10/2016 22:25

Hope poorly babies and mums are getting better!
It's crazy seeing some of you baby proofing the house DS has no interest in crawling or standing for that matter he's happy sitting clapping and reaching for things and crying when he can't reach them.
Those of you talking about car seats... Are they rear facing?? Since seeing you all talk about rear facing has had me thinking another rearward facing next size up seat should be the way to go?!

DomesticAntichrist · 31/10/2016 22:54

The Axissfit one is rearfacing till 2 years or something.

The britax dual fix one is too, I think.

I think all the new iSize ones are. (I could be wrong though).

Dottydoodoo · 01/11/2016 09:57

firsttimemummy the Britax dualfix can be rear facing until the age of 4. I don't think DS will manage to stay rear facing until he is 4 with his long legs squished into my little renault clio, but the option is there! I got mine from Halfords, it was reduced from £355 to £280 I'm not sure if they are still doing that offer?

We didn't get a slow cooker in the end yesterday, it turned into one of those trips out where you change the nappy about four times, and DS decided to sing scream the whole time we were out. Then they didn't have the size I wanted! Today is a new day and we will be venturing out again when he wakes from his nap to try again at a different shop.

Me my DS is pooing about three times a day, and it's quite hard. He doesn't seem to struggle to 'do it', I'm just not sure if it's normal? At the moment he has four 7oz bottles a day and usually finishes them or will leave two oz in one, as well as three meals a day. I'm just worried that if I try to cut the milk down then his bowels will get even worse, but he's going to need to reduce the milk eventually. He drinks water with his meals but probably not enough, he doesn't seem to want much and he knows what he wants! Argh! I'm sure his body will sort itself out!

trinpy that's a good point about the foam corner thingys, I think DS would try and eat them as he likes to try and eat everything! Maybe we will have to rearrange our lounge...........

marmiteandcheeseplease · 01/11/2016 10:27

Glad ds2 is getting better Dom. Sympathies for the backlog of work! I'm back at work in 4 weeks and pretty much ready for it now. Im actually doing a little bit of work 3-4 times a week now so wouldn't mind having the time to actually do it. Also, I feel a little like I'm just done with maternity leave. In an ideal world id go back three days but that just isn't an option.

We haven't bought our next stage car seat yet but need to as dd2 is 9kg now and is starting to outgrow the maxicosi. Dh is deciding between two but i can't remember which ones they are.

Absolutely nowhere near crawling here thank god. Dd1 was early on all her gross motor skills so was crawling at this point and was a nightmare, into everything. Dd2 is trying to crawl but cant yet get her bum in the air enough to actually do it and is happy enough sitting and bum shuffling to get places.

We're having a bit more success with weaning judging by her nappies - we're doing blw so she has been slow to eat stuff but is getting better at it now. She absolutely will not take a spoon though unless she does it herself which is a pita for things like yoghurt. I've given up and just put a blob on her high chair and let her get on with it. She's actually worked out how to dip the spoon in it but her accuracy is a bit crap so it still ends up everywhere.

Noticed dd2s gums are bulging at the front today so think we have her top teeth on the way. Hopefully that explains the crappy sleep recently as i could really do with some sleqep to get over this bloody shingles! Think I've been lucky as it seems to be a relatively mild case. After 9 days of pain it seems to be easing up so am hoping the antivirals are doing the trick.

Me624 · 02/11/2016 17:10

Ugh I am ill Sad very strange illness, I woke up feeling absolutely fine and gave DS breakfast, but by 9am I felt awful - weak, achey legs and shivering. DS refused to go down for his morning nap and I genuinely felt unsafe to be looking after him. I had to call DH and get him to come home from work so he could look after DS. Had a nap and felt a bit better after that, but I'm far from 100%. There's lots of bugs going round. DH has to go to important meetings tomorrow and I'm just praying I'll feel better in the morning. Have got my DM on standby to come over if I can't cope - I'm lucky that she's nearby.

DS has also got a cold and cough which he's had since the weekend, although thankfully he's not too grizzly.

marmite hope DD's teeth come through and stop bothering her soon.

Our playpen arrived and it's great, it's modular so you can set it up in any shape or configuration and I'm actually using it as a room divider really rather than a play pen. I can block off the door of the lounge with it so that DS can't crawl out onto the hard tiled floor and also the wooden tv stand which he can and has bashed his head on numerous times. So it's perfect and it's got all sorts of balls and knobs and things to turn and twiddle on the side to keep him occupied if I need to leave the room.

1frenchfoodie · 02/11/2016 20:36

Hope you feel better soon Me, DH, DD and I are passing around various coughs and colds, the house sounds like a TB ward at times. The playpen sounds intersting, do you have a link? We have no space for anything more here but move in Jan so could be interested.

Does anyone else have a baby grinding their teeth? DD's top font teeth have just come through and she is grinding against the bottom ones. The noise is horrible but I am hoping it is just a phase while they are novel. The last few weeks sleep have been rubbish so like marmite I am hoping the teeth signal a return to proper sleep.

Trinpy · 02/11/2016 20:48

Hope you feel better soon Me. That sounds like a really nasty virus.

Ds1 was like that with spoon feeding too Marmite. It was very messy at first but great when he was spoon feeding himself fairly neatly at an early age.

I had a letter from work this morning to say they're changing my ward again so cutting back on staff. We've been given a list of their current vacancies so we can give our preferences when they decide where to send us. A couple of the options sounded quite interesting so I hope I'll be moved somewhere nice! Still applying for jobs just need case they want to pack me off to somewhere horrific...

Me624 · 03/11/2016 09:08

I feel much better this morning, thanks all. Still not 100% but capable of looking after DS! My DM is going to come over anyway to help a bit which is nice.

french this is the playpen we got:
m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Baby-Playpen-8-Panel-Foldable-Children-Kids-Play-Room-Divider-Home-Nursery-/252561975725?hash=item3acddde9ad%3Ag%3AwR0AAOSw8gVX5JG9&_trkparms=pageci%253A8c29158a-a1a4-11e6-810f-74dbd180ab89%257Cparentrq%253A296ed0361580a622971b4d46fffa426a%257Ciid%253A10

It's huge if you put the whole thing up but as I said I'm using it more as a room divider at the moment. We can just fit it in our understairs cupboard too so it can go away in the evenings!

Dottydoodoo · 03/11/2016 23:05

frenchfoodie my DS went through a thing of grinding his teeth when the top ones had just started to poke through. It was horrible! It lasted probably about 5 or 6 days, he does it very occasionally, usually when he is eating but for those 5 or 6 days it seemed to be constant. The teeth are not completely through yet so maybe it is a novelty thing like you say.

trinpy that's a bit pants. Hopefully if you have to be moved it will be to somewhere nice.

Me I'm glad you are feeling a bit better today. Being ill sucks! Plus with a baby we cant just have a cosy duvet day any more. Yay for your DM helping you out, how lovely. The playpen looks amazing, we don't have the storage for something like that Sad

I'm pretty sure that DS said mama today! He was super chatty all day and then came out with mama halfway round tescos. He said it a few times later on too. Bless him. I've just been looking on google at baby treasure boxes for them to play with and it looks like a really good idea. DS is really into touching things and inspecting them with great concentration so I think he would love it. That's me sorted with something to do tomorrow!

Timetogrowup2016 · 04/11/2016 07:33

Morning all.
Still reading this thread but very busy lately.
Did veey difficult still.
Had a few good naps of decent naps which meant dd was such a joy and so happy
Now back to two 20 minute naps a day and crying from 2pm onwards each day ( constant newborn colic crying )
Walks are a night mare . She has been screaming up to an hour in the pram during walks .
All Linked on beijg tired but she's just won't nap even on me

MrsElls · 04/11/2016 08:38

Good to have you back time but sorry to hear you still have a nap fighter.

DD has been properly sick three times this morning, normally she only has a bit of spit up so clearly something is going on today. She seems absolutely fine in herself but I think my plans to go out today might be put on hold, can't deal with projectile vomit in the middle of john lewis while I'm having tea and cake!

Me624 · 04/11/2016 09:18

Good to hear from you time, DS fights naps sometimes and it is so hard, I can't imagine how it must be for you with DD like it all the time. To be honest occasionally when I've been really desperate I shove him in the car and go for a drive down the motorway which is almost guaranteed to send him off but I seem to remember you don't have a car so that probably isn't an option for you. (And not a good habit to get into anyway!) The babies are getting older now and they will be able to cope soon with shorter naps so just remember that it will get better!

Dotty that's so amazing DS said mama! My DS has been concentrating so much on moving I think that his babbling has been a bit left behind, we get some gagas and babas and the occasional meeeeh sound but nothing resembling mama or dada yet!

Treasure baskets are a great idea, I went to a class at my local children's centre which suggested them and made my DS one a while ago. It's just a wicker basket and I change what's in it every now and then, at the moment it has some old keys, a clothes peg, a small shampoo bottle (clean and empty!), a small wooden spoon and a little purse. He loves emptying it and playing with everything.

Hope your DD doesn't have anything serious MrsElls. Projectile vomit in John Lewis is probably something to avoid Grin

Trinpy · 04/11/2016 09:19

Dotty is that the same as treasure baskets? If so then yeah they're amazing! Dh used to take ds2 to a treasure baskets group once a week and he loved it. He's stopped taking him now because they kept coming home each week with a new virus. I'll have to make him up one at home.

Nice to hear from you again Time but sorry that C isn't napping. How is she sleeping at night? Have you tried doing the sitting quietly in a darkish room with her at the times she should be sleeping? Hopefully it's just a developmental thing or teething and will pass soon. It's horrible when they get overtired.

MrsElls oh no not another sick baby! There must be lots of bugs going around. Hope the sickness stops soon.

Timetogrowup2016 · 04/11/2016 10:03

Dd is being awful this morning .
10 minutes sleep since 5 fucking am .
She was up for an hour and 20 last nigjt to but usually sleeps through 5pm-7am as she's so knackered from no naps ...
Maybe a dummy run or two but no feeds now

How can I get out the over tired cycle when nothing works ...
She's has cried since 7am non stop.
Nothing is calming her .
She's literally breaking me . I can not cope with the constant crying all day

Timetogrowup2016 · 04/11/2016 10:08

The no napping has been happening since about 5 weeks old
I can count on my fingers and toes how many good naps she's had since 5 weeks

juni · 04/11/2016 10:17

Hello, just discovered this thread - 7 months on! I too have a terrible napper and night sleeper. It has been getting worse and worse and that, added to some health issues (mine) have taken me to a pretty low point. So, I decided to bite the bullet and shell out for a sleep consultant- she hasn't told me anything I didn't know but helped piece it together in a plan. I've just taken the bed I was sleeping (or rather not sleeping in) out of her room so tonight's the night we start! Will share what I'm doing and the results if anyone's interested and wants to save themselves a couple of hundred quid! Smile

MrsElls · 04/11/2016 12:47

Ah projectile number four has required a bath for dd a full outfit change for me. My carpets require saving but they will have to wait for the moment. Basically everything I have fed her she has puked back up in spectacular fashion today!

Swearwolf · 04/11/2016 13:17

Welcome juni and welcome back time! Sorry to hear about all the crap sleep and sad babies. Things do often improve when they're on the move, fingers crossed they do for you.

I've got a wee grouch this week, she's had a horrible cold and I think she's teething too, her gums look a bit bulgy and she's a snotbag. We've had a few bad nights and a couple of days like today when she just doesn't want to be put down. I suspect her tummy might have something to do with it too, she's currently farting away in her high chair. I've promised DS a trip to the museum, which requires the sling because of the stairs, but there's no way I'm doing that until she's exploded or I know it'll happen as soon as we're on our way.

OP posts:
Dottydoodoo · 04/11/2016 13:22

trinpy yes I think it is! It's all ready to go I'm just waiting for DS to wake up and then he can dive in! I've got a teddy, a silicone pastry brush, an egg cup, jar with some buttons in, DS hairbrush and a shower puff! Thanks for the purse suggestion me I've got a little one upstairs so will run up and put that in the basket too.

me my DS is the total opposite! He's not really fussed about getting around, he will happily lie on his back chattering away and playing with his toys. Aren't they funny!

mrsells what a shame you missed out on your cake at john Lewis! I hope it's not a bug and that she is back to normal soon.

time I'm sorry that naps are such a struggle. I have no advice I'm afraid, my DS was a nap refuser but he seems to have sorted himself out on his own. I do sympathise though as the times he does still refuse to nap he is a right grumpy so and so.

juni welcome, and good luck for tonight!

We have been swimming this morning which DS absolutely loved. He wouldn't sleep afterwards though hence why he is crashed out now. It's pouring with rain here so I think we are going to have a lazy afternoon with our treasure basket!

DomesticAnarchist · 04/11/2016 19:17

Evening all!

Nice to 'see' you Time. Sorry to hear that DD is still being difficult. I can relate - DS1 is was highly strung and difficult. He's improved as he's got older, but he's still very high maintenance. Some babies are. Lots of people with angelic only children try to give advice, as if their superior parenting made their child easy and enjoyable. It's all bollocks. Some children are just difficult to enjoy. I only know this as DS2 is so different!

DS2 is a 20 minute napper, but he's happy with it, fortunately.

Oh no, MrsElls. Hope your day got better!

Hi Juni, good luck tonight.

Did you get out, Swear?

DS2 has finally cut his first teeth! I'm sure they've been imminent for months, but they're finally through! I've just had to buy a load more Wonder Bibs to cope with his enormous drooling.

DH is away for the weekend so I've been flying solo. Coped so far, got to get through to Sunday afternoon.

I've got sky movies and a new audiobook as backup for DS1. I don't know how you folks with two under school age and a DH at work all day do it!

Swearwolf · 04/11/2016 21:25

Totally agree with dom there time, some babies are difficult and you don't appreciate how it's completely not your fault and just their personality until you have another one and they're completely different despite you doing all the same things. And it's definitely frustrating when people with easy babies think it's down to their amazing parenting skills.

dom sounds good Smile
We did make it to the museum, and to the woods we walk past on the way home (sneaky 4yo pretended he couldn't wait for a wee so I let him go in, then he was all "ooh, let's explore mummy" and I got sucked in) and the baby grizzled all the way round, which was just lovely. My poor boy made a decent effort to enjoy the railway, building wall and hook a duck, but I ruined it by hurrying him around.

Is anyone doing fireworks this year? We're going tomorrow, I'm so ridiculously excited, I'm thinking sling and a bobble hat, no need for ear defenders. I cannot bloody wait, this is my absolutely favourite time of year!!!

Oh time I really feel for you. I remember your nap problems from months ago and had hoped things had changed. My sis and SIL had babies within a couple of weeks if each other 3 years ago and SIL's was a nap refuser (and sleep fighter in general). Nobody in the family thought it was down to my bro/SIL and all we could do was take him so they could have a break.

vomit on the carpets *Mrs E', not nice at all. Hope they came up okay. DD managed to cover her high chair tray in vomit yesterday, easiest clean up ever.

Just feeling human myself after vomiting all thursday night. Luckily we had expressed milk in fridge as I was due at work on fri.

FirstTimeMummy25 · 05/11/2016 08:34

Sorry to hear about the nap refusers... DS used to nap refuse but like others have said he sorted it out himself so no major advise sorry Blush
I hope that it improves for you soon though... Thanks for he advise about car seats we are currently researching the rear facing seat and will probably go with the britax rear facing one from halfords I've forgotten the proper name!

Those of you who's DC goes to childminders or nursery, what do you pack them for lunch?! I'm back to work on Tuesday and have just decided to panic as to what's suitable to pack... And advice greatly received Smile
