Indians the sight of Hallie's hair is enough to cheer anyone up! So cute Smile

Julfin thanks for the recommended reading on MN classics, I get bored of reading through the inane AIBU threads and endless Facebook holiday pics during the 2am feed!

Rubytuesday2980 · 26/08/2016 14:57

Ok, after 3 days of chaos, we have water! Should've been yesterday, but then didn't happen due to parts issue and plumber being inept, would've completely lost it at that point had I not been holding the baby. Just a kitchen floor to replace now, so DH is on that tonight.
May have got through that purely because the I treated the return of Bake Off as an excuse to eat all the cake.

blue Thank you for the HV suggestion, unfortunately I don't have a lot of confidence in ours for various reasons, plus when you ring them you get an answerphone message and apparently they don't have an admin person, so messages often go unanswered (she actually told me that to my face!). Then missed the drop in clinic yesterday thanks to the douche bag plumber, grr. A friend of mine went to a Boob Guru last year, so am going to ring her this weekend if it doesn't improve. Sorry to hear you're still in pain, but don't forget that your poorly nips need to heal, and as others have said, it may take a big of time for Ru to re-learn. Can you get the Boob Guru round again? Sounds like a good use of £70 to stop you feeling so miserable. I second the bulldog clip response to your DH, FFS, he needs to think a bit more carefully before speaking?!
Re drying, I have coloured muslins for bottom drying and white muslins for everything else. I didn't dry at first but H kept getting a bit sore.

speak, I like that article and agree with others, why oh why can there not be some consistency to what we are told?

beaut - you've dtd four times, and with all this other stuff going on. Good grief, I'm not telling my DH that or I'll be divorced. You hero! Good work MB, you clearly love your milk Smile

sock how truly horrible for your friend, some people really do get put through it, that is so unfair.
We had a three hour scream-a-thon last night and on Monday, which I also think is tummy ache/reflux, but can't work out why it's only some evenings.

Indians, I still have to use nappy changes to keep the boy awake, so it gets changed every time regardless of contents!

julfin, enjoy your hols, I love that photo of Jasper on the ferry.

cookies re the wind in bf babies, am beginning to wonder if ours is due to speed of milk at beginning of feed? (This might also be the reason for H slipping off). I noticed that he was having to gulp milk down at first and when I took him off, it was spraying out like a jet wash in all angles - if I was having to awake at that rate (cue childish giggle about that sentence), I'd definitely end up with wind. Worth checking?
And yep, I've also had some wine. Cheers Wine

As Anna has said, if you're having sick issues, do check out reflux, both my nephews had it with similar symptoms and you don't have to just grin and bear it.

Can't believe how many tongue ties have been missed, how crap is that?!!

All those with frustrations over your DH/DP, I feel for you and hope you are managing to prioritise what you and the baby need. Screw the housework if they won't help and do the right thing by yourselves. Sending lots of Cake and Chocolate

Interesting the different approaches to the 6/8week checks and jabs. I'm really annoyed that I had a letter with one appointment only - for my 6 week check and his check & jabs all at the same time (8w 3d), assuming there won't be much time in that to discuss much! Also, was told by HV that they would give me baby paracetamol at the apt, it isn't mentioned at all on the letter, should I take some just in case?

6w 6d today and weighing approx the same as the baby that my friend has just given birth to - ouch!

Rubytuesday2980 · 26/08/2016 14:59

Oh, Indians, she's just got the best baby hair ever!!

Bluebell20 · 26/08/2016 15:04

Indians - ha re the bulldog clips! Yeah he fed after the tongue clip and they asked me questions about how it felt - I thought it felt better at the time. They didn't look closely at the latch though. (Also, Hallie's blow dried hair kills me!)

Cheese - Gosh, that sounds really hard. I'm glad your DP is being a loving dad even when he's finding things so tough. It is very hard in you though to have to worry about him - and to have to pick up his slack. Does he have a good friend who could maybe have a chat with him and gently find out what is going on?

Sophie - yanbu. I second Indians - if you can, calmly speak to your partner about how you are feeling and what you need from him. I did it this morning after my fury at DH going on about my pain threshold last night. He couldn't see what the problem was but I'm pretty sure he won't bring it up again now.

Primary - I love the idea of feeding in a new location as well as with a new position. I will try that. Julf,
what position did you find worked for you and jasper?

Beaut, you are a trooper. You must be one hell of an organised lady! MB is looking cute as a button too. No, no BF groups running in my area at the mo. If I get past the weekend I will start looking for groups on Bristol, which is our nearest city.

Cookies - thank you! I have rung the HV again today and she is trying to get hold of the BF specialist for me but I won't be able to see anyone till Tuesday. I explained all my concerns to her and how disappointed I was. She was very apologetic but basically couldn't help. I think what pisses me of the most is that I may have to give up breastfeeding and if I'd had the right help to begin with that would have been totally avoidable.

OP posts:
Bluebell20 · 26/08/2016 15:14

Ruby - I also have jet-wash milk. Described by the Boob Guru as 'enough to feed the street' - and she thought that might be partly why his latch was slipping and he was getting windy from taking in air when he slipped. Nothing I can do about that though!! And yea, good suggestion, I will be ringing the Guru again shortly as a last ditch attempt to get some help before the holiday weekend begins. I hope yours comes through for you.

DH said earlier that he wasn't a fan of the newborn stage and he doesn't want another one!!!

Flossiesmummy · 26/08/2016 15:27

Another one here with jet wash boobs. Poor Rose splutters and chokes at the start of every feed. I soaked the arm of the sofa at my parents' house yesterday Blush

AnnaT45 · 26/08/2016 15:43

blue I'm so angry about your DH and pain threshold comments. Men haven't got a clue. You've been through so much you deserve a medal. Say to DH what does he hope to achieve with those remarks bar making you feel shit when you're already having s crap time. Sending you s hug and a kick in the nuts fit DH Grin sounds like you may need to wait for improvement on latch but call your boob guru and ask her how long it should take?

indians that hair is just incredible! I love it! Bet you get so many people stopping you?

Oh becks he's gorgeous. Pleased he did well! At least they're done for a bit too!

beaut he's is so lovely and a good size! No wonder he drinks so much! Well done for having sex with all that going on! It's the furthest thing from my mind but I must admit I've kept DH happy in other ways! Wink

sunday so pleased you've been seen by GP. I don't want to be negative but I think gaviscon is a bit ineffective. Give it five days then go back and get something like ranitidine. But hopefully it gives some comfort. DD1 had it and barely slept so feel your pain. Things to do to help are elevate the mattress so their head is raised slightly. You could used a rolled up towel for example. Also try keep them up right for 20 mins after a feed. I know it's crap at 3am but it helps. I also found gently rubbing rather than patting the back to wind helped. Hope that helps. Stay strong you'll get through it.

dolly good news! Hope it works! I found I had to try out diff timings for giving ranitidine but best time was about 20 mins before a feed, give it time to get in the system. I know it's hard to predict when they're feeding at this age.

I'm so tired today. Think I'll go to bed at 7 with dd1!!!

sundaysunday · 26/08/2016 15:57

Thanks for the tips Anna, have tried most things already but will try rubbing rather than patting during winding. Had a good doctor who already suggested returning for ranitidine if symptoms aren't better in 10 days so I'm reassured there's a plan B.

Woo hoo for water ruby! A good excuse as any to eat cake, love bake off!

Rubytuesday2980 · 26/08/2016 16:43

Anna - for elevating the mattress, would that just be a small towel to have a really slight difference? And should it go under the mattress or under the basket?

bluebell if you're interested, I'm in Bristol and can send you the details of the group that was recommended to me (they meet in a pub!), but I don't think they're back until Mon 5th Sept Sad

AnnaT45 · 26/08/2016 18:04

ruby yeah a little one rolled up does the trick. I put it under the mattress. Just keeps the head raised a bit. It does seem to help.

sunday I just doing patting it seems to aggravate it and make it more painful for them. I know a few who have said the same too.

Reflux is a bloody nightmare so I feel for those suffering. Medicine does help it though!

Flossiesmummy · 26/08/2016 19:18

I forget who mentioned pookie doodle puppy but I youtubed it an ended up in absolute stitches. Grin

beckslovestimmy · 26/08/2016 19:25

My poor boy is not happy this afternoon after his jabs, he's been unsettled and crying a lot (from the baby that only cries when he is hungry). Only had half his 6pm bottle and is now asleep. I hate seeing him unhappy Sad.

julfin · 26/08/2016 21:51

Bluebell - The new BF position I started using is sitting on the edge of a dining chair leaning backwards with my legs out in front of me so my body and legs are nearly in a straight line. Lying jasper vertically on my tummy (slightly to whichever side he's going to feed from) with his head on my chest, and letting him wriggle down slightly until he finds the nipple himself. I support his body slightly with my arm (the one on the same side as the breast he's feeding from). He normally does quite a lot of head-banging before he finds it, and gets quite frustrated, but gets there eventually. It took a couple of days to get it right when I started doing this position, and now he latches properly in other positions too. He does occasionally give me love-bites though!

It makes me so angry when bf support etc isn't available in the summer. It's totally unfair that they expect us to wait until September. I've been lucky that there was a bf group near us, but the sling library has been closed all summer which is annoying.

Ha ha I just watched pookie doodle too! Not sure I'd be able to remember all those lyrics!

Indians - best hair ever! Amazing!

Managed to get sunburnt at the beach today BlushJasper stayed in the shade and is fine, sensible boy Wink

Night, all 😴

julfin · 26/08/2016 22:33

So now I've got pookie doodle puppy going round and round in my head!

Today I found another game that jasper loves (apart from having baths). He likes having his face tickled with my hair (the floaty bits that hang down at the front). He smiles and sort of giggles. Very cute! Smile

dollydaydream84 · 26/08/2016 22:34

DD slightly better today with feeds and much less wind up to now also less sick so perhaps ranitidine is really helping? Fingers crossed. She is still going the best part of ten hours in the night without a feed which seems unbelievable as she has reduced milk intake of anything she is sleepy in the day but when she is awake very alert and happy. Still concerned enough to be checking on her all night as that's a long time for a baby to sleep without milk at this age in my opinion! Wouldn't mind if she was taking more milk in the day to make up for it.

Did the nurses tell you to give calpoo routinely after jabs? Ours said give it straight away which we did, then another dose in the night as little one had a temp. The meningitis B jab gave our older DD a fever when she had it last week but all over writhing about 18 hours for those who are concerned x

dollydaydream84 · 26/08/2016 22:34

In about*

beckslovestimmy · 26/08/2016 22:39

I was advised 3 doses of calpol in total. One straight after and then 4-6 hour intervals. Ben did not like the calpol one bit!! He's fast asleep now so hoping he wakes up feeling better.

julfin · 26/08/2016 22:43

Dolly - glad DD is a bit better. I agree 10 hours is a long time, even at night. Could you feed her half way through the night? Don't need to really wake her to do so.

Rubytuesday2980 · 26/08/2016 23:14

Aw. becks, hope your boy is happier tomorrow and you feel better.

Now these babies are getting bigger (and it's still so hot), what are they all sleeping in? Grosnug only suitable up to 12lbs and he'll be there soon at this rate.

sundaysunday · 27/08/2016 03:37

E has been sleeping in just a short sleeved bodysuit + socks mainly or a sleep suit on cooler nights. He seems to be a fairly warm baby so I'm not worried about him getting cold. Blankets aren't his thing apparently, they barely stay on 2mins! So grobags will be used in winter.

primarynoodle · 27/08/2016 03:54

Ruby - Annie is in a sleepSuit with a thinish knitted blanket (lots of holes in the pattern - knitted by her great granny Annie!). Some of her sleep suits seem thicker than others so we vary that by temperature. Don't know what I'd do without the GroEgg!

Bluebell20 · 27/08/2016 04:56

Crap, just lost a big post!

Apologies to all for the ear worm that is pookie doodle - Ruben loves it though!

Anna, I have left a message with the Guru but suspect that as it is a holiday weekend, Ruben and I are on our own.

Julfin, fab description of the position. Thank you. I'm going to try it tomorrow.

Ruby - would love the BF group details just in case I am still going by the 5th Sep! Ruben is still sleeping in a vest under his sleep suit and a thin blanket (which he kicks off). Now worried I am overdressing him!

OP posts:
beckslovestimmy · 27/08/2016 05:40

Ben is sleeping in a baby gro with a thin fleece blanket over him. He is right under an open window though.

Sophiesausage · 27/08/2016 08:50

Dolly are you breast or bottle feeding? I'm going to doctors on Wednesday s pretty sure Sophie has reflux. Did you try gaviscon first? How are they both given? I looked at staydown milk but seemed impractical to make up.

She has taken over an hour for 4oz this morning and brings up a lot with each burp.

Sophie has been sleeping in vest and socks. Dh keeps putting blanket over her that she kicks off so must be warm enough!

primarynoodle · 27/08/2016 09:48

Bottle refusing dd took an ounce of ebm this morning with a size 2 teat! Fingers crossed this means she's cracked it woooooo. Now I can book a dentist appointment!
