So many August bus babies have arrived already! Anyone else fancy a chat during night feeds or wondering what to make of the contents of tiny nappies? Might as well get comfortable...

biscuits we use s sleepyhead and it's been great so far, I can feed DS in it and then don't have to transfer him which often seems to wake him, also finding I can put him in it during the early evening and if he's still asleep by the time we go to bed just carry him upstairs. I didn't have one for the older two children but would recommend it.
I've always thought a 4 hour block of sleep was the magic number to getting through the following day, I think you feel better on one 4 hour block than you would on 6-8hours of broken sleep.

I'm not very good at following comments from people apologies...

peardrop2 · 15/08/2016 19:11

Back from hospital. Got what I wished for. 2 sensible people... 1 lactation consultant / 1 midwife and a definite tongue tie so I was right Smile Tongue tie treated and she's gained 100g so she is nearly back to birth weight! I am sooooo looking forward to bedtime tonight!!

Biscuitswithtea · 15/08/2016 19:33

That's brilliant news Pear :) You must be delighted.

Our day has gone okay in the end, we got out into the glorious weather this afternoon which helped all our sanities. DH & I managed a 10min conflab about how we are and what we need at the moment (answer: make sure we actually spend some time together once DS is in bed for a little while before getting all the chores done). And I think we might book a holiday too :)

DD is currently treating my legs as her personal sleepyhead and is fast asleep. It might save us a hundred quid but I need a wee...

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 16/08/2016 00:58

Thanks for the cosleep advice, might have to try it tonight as so far I'm stuck in feed/wind/feed cycle and I can't get her to go down. Please tell me they do eventually learn the difference between night and day?

pear glad you got the tongue tie fixed and that she's putting on weight now.

I have the snuzpod too - wondering if a sleepyhead inside might help.

Sorry if I missed people!

peardrop2 · 16/08/2016 02:54

Thank you Biscuits and Alfie!

So, if the FB page really chatty then? I feel like this thread has died down a lot. Wondering if everyone is on FB chatting away instead?!

peardrop2 · 16/08/2016 02:58

Biscuits that sounds like a positive conversation! Yay for the holiday! I'm hoping we can grab a few days away in December.

Alfie urge me too! DD just won't let me put her down tonight and she is soooo windy every time I try! She's currently curled up into a ball on my chest and it is too tempting to shut my eyes! Better try and put her down again!

Penguin000 · 16/08/2016 03:04

Hi can I come say hello? I've still got 4 weeks left till I meet my dd, but I'm up and awake for hours most nights, it's driving me a bit bonkers!

Biscuitswithtea · 16/08/2016 04:10

So I fashioned a DIY sleepyhead set up with a blanket rolled under at its sides, then covering the whole thing with a muslin. DD has slept well so far in it - she fed c. 7pm, 10.30, 2am & now. That's much more manageable!

Ps- Have no idea about FB - am not on it!

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 16/08/2016 06:17

Also not on fb group so have no idea. DD eventually consented to an hour in her cot st 2am and st 4am - better then nothing I suppose. Because I think it's DH fbtgatd upsetting her she wouldn't settle cosleeping either - has to be held.

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 16/08/2016 06:19

Hi penguin! We do also have a thread in antenatal clubs too were our still pregnant counterparts live if there was anything you want to chat about. Of course welcome
To hang around here.

LotsOfDots · 16/08/2016 06:54

I'm not on the fb group either!

Have had a couple of better nights, DS has been doing 2.5 - 3 h stretches between feeds. If he could just get quicker at the feeding that would be nice, an hour at a time seems to be the routine at the moment.

Interesting about the sleepyhead chat - I have a friend who swears by her's as well. We have a bednest co-sleep crib which I like, close enough to make it easy for feeding over night but I put the side up after he's fed. So far DS is happy to go back in it after he hits milk coma!

pesr great news that you managed to get the tongue tie identified and treated and about the weight gain. Marvellous.

Hello penguin sorry to hear you are having difficulty sleeping - it's rubbish isn't it?!

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 16/08/2016 12:29

So the health visitor has just been and she thinks that DD has a posterior tongue tie. The clinic is today though so she's not sure she can get me in and it might be another week to be seen Confused
She's going to phone and see if they can squeeze us in. My nipples are praying that they can!

peardrop2 · 16/08/2016 16:02

Hi Penguin - we look forward to welcoming your DD very soon! In the meantime feel free to chat away at crazy hours! I was so lucky not to have the last month as my DD surprised us by arriving 4 weeks early! I do feel like I've had that last month stolen though ;-) It's taken me a while to get my head around it all.

Biscuits that does sound like better feeding times. Do you think you will still buy a sleepyhead?

Alfie your baby sounds just like my dc1! Is she very colicky? My son had a tongue tie and reflux (turned out he had my food intolerance setting off reflux) and he would never ever let us lie him down in anything. Has the clinic been able to fit you in? I really hope so!

OK so all the people who joined the FB group must have left this thread already.

We had our first family outing to the park today. Whilst DS and DH were in the playground I went to buy the picnic with DD in the carrycot. Wow it was so nice to push a carrycot again (not that I got to do that much with DS because he would never lie down and spent most of the first year propped up in the car seat). It was also amazing to be outside! However, my stitches are very painful now so I'm back in bed with DD! Trying so hard to soak in these early days...which it was a bit more pain free!

peardrop2 · 16/08/2016 16:06

Lots I'm quite green with envy about your 3hr stretches in the night Wink Sounds a lot better for you! Long may it continue!!

I've had two bad nights in a row now so I really think I'm due a good one tonight Grin

I've stopped writing down feeds so I will have no answers for the midwife and health visitor tomorrow Wink

Biscuitswithtea · 16/08/2016 17:15

Welcome Penguin Hope you're getting on okay :)

Well done on getting out Pear And possibly, even more well done on not recording feeds ;) Am sure if you can give them enough of a sense of roughly how frequent then that will do! and it will have to do!!

I declared to DH this am that if DD continues to sleep better in her mock sleepyhead arrangement then we will be getting one Smile but am cynical enough to not spend a big lump of money on the back of one good night

Oh refluxy babies are so tough going. I continue to keep everything crossed that DD has dodged that particular bullet. DS was treated for over 2yrs, but has finally outgrown it.

I took DD into town today to meet my grandad. It was lovely but I forgot how everything takes at least twice as long, allowing for feeds to happen at mystery times!

CheeseandGherkins · 16/08/2016 19:45

I can join you all now! One baby girl born safe and sound. So relieved! Pushed back for emergencies so she was born at 4.49pm weighing 6lb 15 and a half ozs. Placenta was calcified and gritty so I'm so thankful they got her out today. I think we've settled on Freya.

peardrop2 · 16/08/2016 21:15

Hi Cheese! Congratulations! How are you feeling after your c-section? I assume that's what you're talking about? Sorry if not!

My stitches are still sore from the walk and I've had 2 paracetamol. Perhaps I walked too fast Sad

When we left the house my Ds was a bit taken back that DD was using his buggy. I felt a bit bad because I had totally forgotten to warn him that we've taken off his seat to put on the carrycot. Tonight I'm ordering a bugaboo buggy board seat for him. Poor thing is having to except so many changes so quickly! When DD is a bit older I think I'll be investing in the Double Maclaren to push around the shops. At the moment I think it's more useful to use make use of the bugaboo.

Biscuit I bet your grandfather was really happy to see you! Must have made his week Smile Isn't it amazing how just a little trip is a lot of work now with 2!!

peardrop2 · 16/08/2016 21:18

Oh and Cheese Freya is a lovely name Smile

Biscuitswithtea · 16/08/2016 21:52

Congratulations Cheese :)

I only had DD with me today and everything still took an age! But I did manage to negotiate getting the train on time, and got a bonus mooch around John Lewis too :)

It's so hard to predict what toddlers will be thrown by. Our DS took issue with sharing a changing mat of all things!
Buggy board success here by selling it to him as a skate board. Don't think he even recognises the term 'buggy board' !!!

How old is your DS Pear? Am hoping to dodge the double buggy conundrum through using a sling for DD but you're making me wonder now...

peardrop2 · 17/08/2016 03:37

Urrrrrghhh to the moment you wake up before your baby because you're leaking and then you realise you may as well stay up until they want to feed Confused

Biscuits Ds is 3 and 3 months. He fits well in our single Maclaren now and I have always encouraged him to go in it when walking to local markets etc so that I have control and he doesn't run off etc. He's tall so his feet can drag along if he's in a huff but he mostly rests them on the foot bar with no problems. He's not ready to walk into the village without something so I need to get something for now. I like your idea of calling the buggy board a skateboard. I might call the buggy seat a special bike?!! I've shown him a photo and he seemed excited by it. Awww to your son being protective over his changing mat! Cute. We actually brought a new changing mat from mothercare for DD so I haven't stumbled across that issue! The sling is definitely a good option. I need to look into sling libraries soon. With DD being under 5lbs I haven't felt ready to think about that yet.

peardrop2 · 17/08/2016 03:41

Oh and Biscuits I may find that the buggy board seat is enough but at the moment I've got images of DS jumping off it and running off but maybe he will follow the rules and stay on more then I give him credit! I know that a side by side double would be our only option. We may also find that he doesn't want to go back in a buggy after using the board...that is one thought Sad

DD has gone to sleep and not finished her feed Hmm

Brittanyspears · 17/08/2016 04:25

Hi everyone first (only!) baby is now 2 days old. Finally got her to suckle this afternoon. Nips are already red raw but im just relieved i managed it as was doubtful. She won't sleep in cot only on me so no sleep at the mo but im so overwhelmed in a good way i don't mind yet. Reading your posts with interest lots of useful info and reassuring stuff. Hope to go home tomorrow!

AlfieTheRailwayCat · 17/08/2016 04:46

I'm having a terrible night again. DD seems to have decided she will not poo and that this will mean she will screen anytime I put her down. I've never been more desperate to hear somebody poo! I've been rubbing her tummy and trying to soothe her. I've not really been to sleep yet. Sad

Interested to hear the reviews of sleepyheads - I'm tempted because it's during transfer that she wakes.

Congratulations cheese so pleased for you after all the worry and concern. Sounds like they did the right thing getting her out.

Biscuitswithtea · 17/08/2016 07:55

Much sympathy Alfie I hope there's an epic poo in the offing that settles everything down again.

My night could have been okay but DS woke at 2, inconsolable with DH until I went through. Got back to bed at 3, just in time for DD to wake for a feed. She decided it was an 'all you can eat' type session, so guzzled and guzzled, threw it back up down my t-shirt and then fell asleep. DS was up at 6.15am, wanting to play with trains. DS is now at nursery, DH is at work and I am waiting for madam to wake for her feed.

Oh, and the fake sleepyhead arrangement seems to help. DH came through at 11.30pm last night while I was feeding her and was stunned to realise that she had done a 3.5hr stretch again!

Pear that makes sense re double buggy. We are lucky to have two cars so I always have access to one. At the moment I don't trust DS to be totally sensible around traffic so I won't take him on his bike when I have DD unless we are somewhere safe and contained. He was 3 mid-June, so slightly younger than your son. And a short arse, but with surprisingly whizzy legs ;) But maybe sling and pram combo will see us through.

Re slings- we have a Close Caboo which DD has been happy in since she was c6lbs.

LotsOfDots · 17/08/2016 09:46

Morning. Sorry to hear of more sleep and feed woes, hope today is better everyone.

Congratulations brittany welcome to the other side!

I am feeling pleased with myself as it was first day back at school for my big 2 today, P4 and P2. We made it to school, on foot, in time and smartly turned out. Ok, DH got then dressed and ready and I just dealt with me and DS until DH went to work, but still, an achievement. Obviously DS yelled all the way home as he had done an epic poo and then a wee and the nappy had failed to cope so he was all soggy by the time we got back, as well as starving, but we got there!
