I put on nearly 3v stone and am now a stone up. Have founfd that jelly belly imroved a lot tge last few days. With ds, jellybelly never really went before I was pg again. And that last stone took about 6 months to lose. Don't believe that you need 500kcals a day more to breastfeed... thats what stopped the weight coming off me i'm sure... eating more than i wanted!

DD also settles best with me but we made a breakthrough last night andf she went in her hammock for 3 hours

sorkycake · 24/02/2007 00:04

I'm 5lbs over my pre-pg weight this time at 2 weeks. My body seems to know what to do this time around, more efficient if you like, given it's doing this 'recovery' for the third time. Ideally, I'd like to lose another 9lbs, but I think that might be a bit wishful. Belly is nearly back to normal just lacking in tone a bit, but I stopped urine flow yesterday so have welcomed back my missing pelvic floor, hurrah!
Don't worry too much about weight n bellies, it does go back to normal, promise. Pram pushing = good!
M/w d/c us today and pool collected. Life is returning to some sort of normality

time4tea · 24/02/2007 10:55

just checking in to say hello!

will post later, but all well with me and baby Torin, born Monday

andyrobo237 · 24/02/2007 15:59

We have been for our first trip out in the pram! Thomas has been restless for the past day or so and only wants to sleep while being cuddled - he is very windy, so will get some Colief tomorrow, which is supposed to be good for wind. Dh has gone to the footie (L'pool) and was picking up dd's cake from Costco so left at 12 - we went to the corner shop at 2pm and thomas is still sleeping away in his basket now! DD was sick in her sleep last night - I was heading up to bed at 9.30 to get a few hours kip before the night feeds - DH was cuddling DS as he was restless - went to say 'night night' to DD and felt her bed was damp - put on the side lamo and found sick everywhere - eugh!! Threw her in the bath and all the bedding in the washer - then parked her in our bed with a towel - we decided to let her sleep with DH and I would take DS into her room in his basket and sleep in there - in the hope that he would not catch the bug!

She is ok today if a little pale - hopefully ok for tomorrow as having tea party for family! Will be in bed by 8.30 tonight - hope Ds doesn;t want 2 hour feeds tonight!

peachygirl · 24/02/2007 16:13

Hi all hope your dd is feeling better soon andyrobo.
It's great to see so many people are having the same problems as us, settling in the night for one, Maya sleeps well in the basket during the day but finds it hard to settle at night. I think this might have to do with our room being very dark and when I put the light on it makes a big difference.
I've also having the feeding thing where she 'faffs' around for sometimes up to an hour before latching on. but when she does she feeds well and I haven't got sore nips so I am starting to be a bit more relaxed about it.
I will get to either the hospital or the local breast feeding clinic next week. The midwife was supposed to come yesterday but didn't turn up, so I can ask her about it on monday.
I haven't been on the scales yet but I do know how much weight I gained as I calculated it up just before maya arrived I'll go on in the morning. I am still in maternity trousers but have worn a cople of 'normal' tops which has done my confidence wonders.
I also walked to tesco today with DH and the pram.(he did lots of pushing) It was OK but I am quite tired now. I bought several nice items to stuff my face with.
Have a good weekend all

babydrivertoo · 24/02/2007 21:50

andyrobo, hope DD recovers soon. Not sure about weight loss myself as I don't know exactly how much I weighed before pg - I just go on what clothes fit and what feels tight. But I do seem to be getting back quickly towards normality. Mostly out of mat clothes but that's because I have clothes in the cupboard of a variety of sizes so some of my bigger things are coping with the jelly belly. It feels great not to be wearing things with acres of elastic! But I do remember first time round (when I had a much longer labour and then v sore nips for ages from bfing) that I was much more housebound for much longer so it took longer for me to start getting back to normal. Walking with the buggy definitely recommended once you're able.

DS had a nightmare evening last night - crying from 9pm to 1am but then slept after 1am feed through to 8am! Tonight at the moment he's sleeping in DH's arms but yells when he wakes in his moses basket. Fingers crossed that he settles eventually as although the long sleep was lovely, the crying was really grim. Hope it was the homeopathic colic remedy working through last night and that we've nipped things in the bud but we'll have to wait and see.

take care all!

ja9 · 24/02/2007 21:55

just popped in for a nosey...

...longing to join you. my lo seems to be retreating upwards rather than heading for the exit. ah well.

lovely to read how you are all getting on.

mummy2jake · 24/02/2007 23:07

hi everyone just got chance for a quick hello while ds2 is sleeping
noticed on the antenatal thread that i hadnt informed of the name change we decided to go for charlie instead of max
charlie is 4 weeks old and has put on all the weight he initially lost he now weighs 8lbs 13ozs feeding like a little milk monster 5ozs every 3 hours almost.

ds1 2.5yrs taking to his brother lovely although i find it hard to get used to the limited time im able to spend with him.

will hopefully get chance to catch up with what i've missed on the thread speak to you all very soon xx

MoosMa · 25/02/2007 11:11

Tabetha has reflux just like her older sister She's been having trouble feeding and settling afterwards - as soon as she lies down she screams in agony and arches her back. Luckily I kept some infant gaviscon after DD1 grew out of it so I have given her a few of those with feeds and she now sleeps beautifully in between good peaceful feeds . I'm sure the dr will tell me off for giving her miedicine without seeing him first but I don't think I could have got an appointment at 2 this morning! Will try to see him first thing tomorrow - that will be our first trip out of the house!

DD2 is loving her little sister, she wants to help all the time and to cuddle her. She seemed a bit upset with her crying to start with but we explained that babies say "ah" and she's happy with that . She's also learnt to say sister (kind of, it sounds more like sh*tter!) and Tabby (more like Tabbah) and thinks it very funny when she sneezes!

SmudgeMum · 26/02/2007 11:44

Hi there, welcome to all the new postnatals. I can't believe Dominic is 3 weeks old today. He's sitting on my knee now, wide eyed playing with my hand - it's unbelievable!! Andyrobo I don't know how much I put on, I think about 2 stone but I know weigh about 5lb more than before pg. I fit in some non-mat jeans that were quite big before but am mostly wearing mat tops to hide the jellybelly. I've only really started having enough energy and been comfortable enough to go for walks the last week and I didn't have a CS so don't try to do too much. I find that I'm absolutely starving through the day so am trying to have healthy snacks and save the cake eating for when I meet up with people. Glad you managed to ge DD to sleep Moosma - what did the dr say? Congrats on the longer periods of sleep - we had 4.5 hours between feeds last night! During the day DS would feed every hour if I let him but he's not really that hungry, just wanting to suck. Am I right to try and distract him or should I just let him feed?

MoosMa · 26/02/2007 12:20

The dr agreed with my self diagnosis and has prescribed gaviscon - hoorah!

She went 6.5 hours between feeds last night so I'm feeling better today

Smudgemum I agree that feeding that close together is a bit silly too, I distract DD by giving her my little finger to suck, it can work for ages and helps to settle her after a feed sometimes too.

bubblebell1 · 26/02/2007 15:00

hi everyone

i dont know how much i put on while pregnant but am back in my pre pregnancy clothes now.

i have stopped breast feeding now too. harvey is feeding every 2 - 3 hours and taking 5ozs i couldnt keep up h v has reccomended hungrier baby food and i am in the process of switching his formula slowly.

he is 3 weeks old tomorrow and is already weighing 11lb8oz! following the 98th centile. so couldnt of been starving him with the breast milk.

i know that u normally get the baby blues a few days after birth but is it normal to start to feel it after 3 weeks? i havnt stopped crying today my eyes are really sore and i feel emotionally drained all for no reason.i didnt feel like i could tell the health vistor today either. sorry for the rant just wondered if im feeling 'normal'

suzi2 · 26/02/2007 15:12

I reckon DS had reflux and think DD is the same... all night is spent feeding/winding/trying to settle and then she wakes as soon as she is lying down or often spits up and chokes on it. Is the gaviscon a pain in the behind to use while breastfeeding MoosMa? She's only 2 wks so I might see if I can do some one sided feeding (assuming her weight gain is OK on weds) and reduce my milk a bit for her.

I'm in 2 minds about the feeding for comfort thing Smudgemum. On one hand I didn't do it much with DS and probably endured far more crying and rocking than I had to! I've done it loads with DD and it seems to have made her quite calm... until the last few days (hardly sleeping at all! only getting 30 mins at a time!). I think now that I have an oversupply of mik due to all the suckling and that this is making her tummy sore. She then wants to suckle more for the pain and gets more mik and it's a vicious circle. Distraction doesn't really work at 3 wks and you're likely to overstimulate him trying qhich could make him unsettled. How is he if you don't give him the boob straight away? Does he cry? Or will he just sit in a bouncy chair for 10 mins?

Bubblebell, it was about 3 wks that I had emotional meltdown with DS. I think adrenaline had been keeping me going until then. And then all of a sudden I thought "this is it forever" and was tired and somewhat bored and a bit disillusioned with my new life! It passed but I was a bit all over the place for a few weeks. Once DS was 6wks + it got easier to accept my new life!

sorkycake · 26/02/2007 15:24

Hiya Suzi2 .
Well I do let baby suck when he wants to, unless it's pretty much straight after a feed and `i know he's tired and sucky, then he has a dummy which he sucks for a couple of minutes then sleeps. Might you consider a dummy ?
The spluttering of milk and arching of back is happening to us at night, though not every night, and I don't think it is reflux with us. Ime from friends who've had reflux babies, for want of a better term, they do this at every feed. Spoke to the HV today about it and she thought it was probably more to do with the oversupply of milk I have and him being so contented during the feed that he's taking too much to keep in his tummy. The projectile vomitting is quite disturbing though.
I'm finding juggling 3 quite tough, possibly because Dh has gone back to work and we're trying to do all the things we used to do. Monday has always been a heavy day activities-wise. May need to rethink how much we do.
Is anyone else having night sweats? Since the birth I wake up for his 3am feed soaked through all over (not every night 5/7), HV is getting back to me as to what's causing it but I suspect due to the timing it maybe the breastfeeding. What does anyone else thik? Apart from being stinky in the morning it's great I'm losing weight everyday through sweat!

bubblebell1 · 26/02/2007 16:03

sorkycake i have night sweats too. sometimes i am making ds2s babygrows wet when i feed. the midwife told me it was because i had an infection in my wound but that has cleared up and i still get them a few nights a week. i only stopped breast feeding friday so am still waiting for my milk to dry up maybe when it does they will stop.

thanks for the advice suzi2. i hope it does stop because i am happy with my life now. i enjoy being a sahm and love looking after the boys but find myself hating dp for no reason at all. especially as he does everything i ask / want / need.

this reflux sounds dreadful and i feel for you mums coping with it.
xx

suzi2 · 26/02/2007 16:57

Hiya Sorky - she got a dummy at 3 days old and although she seemed to take to it, she gets VERY angry if offered it when I'm available. I hope to train her to it as DSs made a big difference to him settling.

MoosMa · 26/02/2007 20:10

Suzi2, the gaviscon is a bit of a pain but you get used to doing it and it's easy. I mix it up in a small pot with a little boiled water (you can use expressed milk if you like) and give it to her in a syringe before each feed. I have a bottle of boiled water and a box of milton solution for the pot and syringe which lives in the bathroom so it's not really much hassle.

The main thing to look for with reflux is back arching and crying after most feeds (not necessarily every feed) and not wanting to lie down, also puking a while after a feed when it's not a little posseting. A lot of doctors deny its existence though so you may need to see a couple if you're sure that's what it is and you're not getting anywhere.

mustrunmore · 26/02/2007 20:15

Hello! Sorry for interupting, but I saw the thread title come up and was I was having these kind of conversations this time last year Please make the most of your first year; its flown by so quickly, more so than with ds1 because I'm now splitting my attention 2 ways. Just take hundreds of photos and footage, and dont do anything except indulge your babies! My little baby is now a fully upright and mobile little man

KatPoo · 27/02/2007 09:07

Glad to see all ok with new babies, mums / dads & siblings. All ok here. . . . Zak adores (smothers his brother) so far!
Baby has tumy ache / draws legs up so have been using infacol - does work as when we forget to give it he / we suffer a few hours late.
Nights not too bad. am going bed at 8.30-9pm. husband / now mother feeding him 1 bottle of formula at 11pm and settling him at midnight. (Gave 1 bottle of formula to DS1 and never had problem getting him off breast / onto formula & bottle) Am using aptamil milk as midwife said it is most similar to breast milk / easier to digest than C&G / SMA etc. Nights are ok but he tends to wake at 1.30-2.30 and 4.30 but does not settle in crib / I am too tired to enforce it so sleeps on me till the morning - not ideal but hope to sort this soon; ANY SUGGESTIONS? Dreading next week as will hjave to start doing the 11pm formula feed. . . . .
Kai is 18 days old today & completely gorgeous!!!!!!

KatPoo · 27/02/2007 09:10

does any one know how to upload photos? thanks

peachygirl · 27/02/2007 11:14

Hi all
Things OK with us here Maya is sleeping downstairs at the moment. She was weighed by the midwife yesterday and had put on 90g so now weighs 3kg or 6lb 6. which I'm really pleased with since I haven't supplemented her with formula for a while now. When she was screaming at 3 this morning I was tempted though.
katpoo not sure about photos as I want to do this too I do know you have to resize them and there is an application to do this was part of windows XP.
I was also told to go for aptamil as it was closest to breastmilk at the hospital and I've had the not settling in the basket at night too and for two nights she has been in with me and we fall asleep with the lights on.
My mum and Dad are off home today and I'm a bit sad about that as they will be so far away now but DH will be at home with me for the rest of the week and his Pat leave starts soon.

SmudgeMum · 27/02/2007 12:03

Morning. We had a rubbish night and DS really struggled with latching on so now I'm tired and with sore nips.
I managed to work out uploading photos by going to the profile page and clicking on photos and kind of following the instructions. The bit where I struggled was I thought I had done it and couldn't see the photos so didn't know where I'd gone wrong. DH pointed out to me that the photos were there, I just needed to scroll down the page. I don't think you necessarily need to resize them it depends on how large the photos are. Good luck.

suis · 27/02/2007 14:27

Ah ha ! Found you all...

We're settling in at home now. The bfing is improving, he's now largely feeding from me via a nipple shield, although it's a 10-15 min screaming match to get him to go on each time. He's now only getting a shot of formula last thing at night when no matter how long he feeds from me (3.5 hours on and off last night) it doesn't seem to satisfy him). Yesterday I even managed to get him latched on directly for the first time in more than a week. Hoping desperately that I can get him on properly before the shields cause my milk to dry up.

Other than that it's all going pretty well. He's sleeping well at night and putting weight on now... and DP is taking some extra time off work to help me while my section heals up. I always knew he would make a good Dad, but I have been really touched by just how supportive he has been to me, and by how much he really dotes on his son. Sorry bit gushy.

Bienchen · 27/02/2007 15:19

Just to say check in very quickly; will post news and join in chat once we are sorted again as we have lost internet connection at home and I have to use the facilities at the local library to catch up - with a rationed allocation of time to boot!!!!

Will read all your birth announcements when we are up and running again.

Baby Catherine is doing well despite a short bout of jaundice but no light therapy needed. Relief!!!

And guess what - I am back at college tomorrow (for half a day only). I think I'll tell them the bay is called Flora Rosa Daucus Carota as it is a horticultural degree I am studying for
