Hello

I know it's not even February yet, but here is the new thread. Even though Jacob was born in January, I feel he is an honorary Febster!!!

Looking forward to more new bubs coming this way!!!

Sandy is 11.5 weeks now... growing like a weed (14lbs 5oz last week) and is a happy contented boy... however... we seem to have a new growth spurt on. I didn't think we were really due one of them just yet, but he's back to feeding for an hour at a time and needing both sides at each feed. I'm feeling totally washed out, not helped by having been running about for election things that last few days.(very interesting times up here in Scotland !) Today I've had to go back to bed twice and leave DS to DP becuase I am just shattered. The house looks like we've had squatters in (which always drives me nuts) I've got a ton of paperwork and thank you cards to do and I foolishly weighed myself to discover that I've put on about 5 pounds !! So much for bfing weightloss... it's lies all lies.

(gripe moan whinge complain vent)

sorkycake · 05/05/2007 17:49

Suis you should join me over on Norma's FLYlady thread to tackle your house. Desperate times called for desperate measures in the Sorky house.
Luca is also hitting his 12 week growth spurt with him feeding every hour last night so not only am I shattered but my nips have started hurting as well. Surely to god I should only 3 stone by now LOL.
Oh I forgot >

Luca rolled over this morning from his front to his back!!

Maybe all the feeding has turned him into a barrel
He did it 4 times with much whooping and clapping from everyone, then decided he was hungry again. He's slept a lot today, more than he usually does, but maybe it's the growing.
Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend

SmudgeMum · 05/05/2007 19:10

Hi all. We've got a growing boy too although today has been managing 3 hours between feeds He started blowing raspberries yesterday which he thinks is very funny. He only does them by accident though and then seems surprised! I guess all our LO will be reaching milestones - hooray for babysorkycake for rolling over. DS still doesn't really like being on his front, he prefers to sit up. Did you get a bumble in the end Babydriver? I'm still thinking we might but probably won't get round to it until too late. We put DS in one of those bouncy things that hangs on a door frame yesterday and he absolutely loved it.
Congratulations Bienchen on passing your exam - don't think getting sheets at JL makes you a snob at all. I think they have lovely stuff and it's not too expensive either. Littlestboho - LOL at your 4 glasses of wine hangover. I feel tipsy after a glass or two so reckon I need to start toughening myself up.
Hope everyone has a good B/H.

suzi2 · 05/05/2007 21:02

Congrats Biechen and congrats Luca on the rolling! Isla rolled from back to front last weekend. Not repeated it yet thank goodness so I'm hoping it was a fluke as I can't handle a mobile baby yet! DS didn't do that way until after he was cruising lol.

I have NO idea whether she's having a growth spurt or whatever. Basically, if we get through the day with sanity intact I don't care how it happened! She feeds loads, sleeps very little and we muddle through really. The biggest problem I'm having at the moment is everytime DS cries, she cries and vice versa so it can get totally stupid at times.

Still no giggles but a lot of smiles and chat. Detests tummy time. I gave DS plenty but he hated it, this time I can't be bothered. If she's delayed in sitting or crawling because of it then I'm not too worried TBH... does that make me a bad mummy? Have bought a bumbo off a fellow MNetter for £15 delivered so we'll see how it goes. I'm not a huge fan of them (I don't think!) but I really do need somthing for DD to sit in to keep her amused while I'm doing this like DSs dane/story class.

I've been doing the paul mckenna book have lost 5lbs in a week no bother - it's fab!

peachygirl · 06/05/2007 10:00

Wel done to all the rolling over Maya hates tummy time too so she hasn't had too much. We went to brighton for the day yesterday and had a nice time, ice creams for mummy and daddy.
I was very tempted for a pair of crocs... I think I'll get them online though.
We are also doing well at baby swimming I think Maya is a bit of a star pupil!!
We have got JL sheets too I got them in the sale at christmas I have been very pleased with the moses basket ones.
Well done on your weight loss suzi and for your exam bienchen!

We have booked the movers and are about to start the 'sort out' we have decided to go for the packing option too.

suis · 06/05/2007 18:54

Sorky - I shined my sink today ! Day 1 completed. Will have to see how it goes, but it was nice to achieve something today. Thanks for the tip !

sorkycake · 06/05/2007 19:25

Ooh suzi well done , how does paul mckenna help you lose weight? I could do with the last 5lbs gone
Full respect to bienchen for your exam success!!
To the "tummy time despiser's", we started off leaning back against the sofa with Luca on my tummy, on his tummy and gradually got to lying down, then on his own. hth

suzi2 · 06/05/2007 19:58

Sorky - there is a thread on the dieting forum about it at the moment. Basically, there are 4 rules:

Eat when you are hungry
Eat what you want, not what you think you should have
Eat conciously and enjoy every mouthful
Stop when you think you are full

What works for me is that I tend to stop when I'm mostly full (I think!) knowing full well that if I'm geniunely hungry in 10 mins I can have chocolate or whatever if I want! There are various tips and techniques to help you follow the rules like techniques to beat cravings, understanding emotional eating etc. 2 of the things that work well for me are drinking more as I sometimes confuse thirst with hunger, and eating very slowly so I'm more aware of what I'm doing. There is also a hypnosis CD but I've only managed to listen to that once. The book/cd were only £5 in ASDA and well worth a read.

sorkycake · 06/05/2007 20:17

For a minute there I thought he was in your kitchen shouting at you every time you went to the fridge
Might give it a try this week, I'll let you know if I manage any weight loss.

andyrobo237 · 07/05/2007 20:51

I dont think this child of mine will ever sleep all night! We can manage to get 5 to 6 hours gap between feeds, but I am still up at 3 or 4am in the morning. DH is blissfully unaware of how tiring it is to be lacking in sleep for these past few months - and has the audacity to stay in bed until 10am yesterday and today! And then complains he is tired - doesn't know he is born! I passed up on an evening out on Friday as I didnt have the energy to go - probably would have been ok if I went, but would struggle to get up at 3am for feeds - no offers from him to do that - hasnt done one in 12 weeks so not likely to change now!

DD is very happy today - got her first brand new big girls bike - no stabilisers - cans ee more bruises coming her way!

babydrivertoo · 07/05/2007 20:59

andyrobo you're not alone! LO is still waking every night. Last night he woke at 2:30 but I was pretty sure it was just coming into light sleep and not being able to get back so I spent best part of an hour settling him back (I'm bloody minded!! - and he kept on nearly going to sleep and waking up again) and then he woke properly for a feed at 5. I'm trying to tell myself that it's worth not feeding unless I really think he wants it so as to get him out of the idea of waking but I don't think it's working yet... At least DH let me have a lie in this morning. Sorry yours isn't so helpful.

Tomorrow the plasterers are in for 3 days to sort out our spare room so that DS1 can move into it and make space for DS2, so goodness knows how daytime naps will go.

Useful tips on the dieting suzi2. I also find that following GI rules (when I remember) is handy. Basically, eat lots of wholegrains, fruit, veg, protein, and cut right back on processed carbs. Also has the advantage of allowing you to eat plenty, so long as it's the right stuff.

snugglebumnappies · 08/05/2007 10:00

Congratulations Bienchen, you must be so

Well thanks for all the suggestions re bottles, we have taken out a second mortgage to buy all the ones we have tried so far and it's been a big, fat thumbs down from DS2 to all of them Not sure where to go next with this, looks like we will be holding off for a few more weeks (he's 9 weeks tomorrow) and offering a cup now, unless anyone else has any ideas :}

As for sleeping, well he doesn't really settle on his own, he sleeps in a sling during the day and spends the evening on my knee going up to bed with me, still feeding every couple of hours in the night

forgottenfreetime · 08/05/2007 17:12

Hi all, haven't posted for a while cos I've been busy doing an Anne Maurice style makeover in our flat that we let. Hoping to sell now because it feels like too much work for me with two small children and a nearly full time job. I haven't much advice for you snuggle bum with the bottles - except have you had another go at cup feeding now lo is older and may not choke quite so much? How have you got on with Calpol? Does she take it from a syringe? That might be a way of working towards a teat - but it might be a bit laborious.
I'm looking for advice on stopping my son biting! It sounds awful doesn't it but he has bitten the baby several times now and over the weekend bit my MIL. You can imagine how that went down. Of course I shout at him No and Naughty and tell him that he musn't bite and sit him on the naughty step for a minute. But I am now being told to smack him by my mum and MIL and DH is perhaps inclined to agree. DS is 2 and 3 months. Most of the time I can prevent this behaviour by being alert and stopping him by pulling him off. But its not stopping him trying and sometime suceeding. Any advice anyone? I will also post in parenting I think. It really upset me over the weekend.
Well done on the exam Bienchen, the next one will be the time to really congratulate yourself however - sitting an exam with a six month old!
at all those whose los are sleeping through. We're still at 11pm 3.30am and 6.30am here!

thelittlestboho · 08/05/2007 19:04

Yesterday morning Noa slept until 10!! Could not believe it! She went to sleep after her bath at 9. The day before it was 9.10, and day before that 8.50. As the HV said today, I've won a watch. Comiserations to the sleep-deprived amongst us though.

peachygirl · 08/05/2007 21:07

Hi all We are still waking in the night usually around 3 ish and Maya doesn't go down until 10/ 11pm We ry putting her down earlier but she is complaining as I type, Maybe I'll put the radio on for her...
I've workd with several biters Sorry I don't have much advice besides what you are doing already, what about a star chart, Split the day into three? morning, afternoon, early evening then if no biting lovely treat before bed?
Keep going with the firm NO and maybe try 'mummy doesn' like it when you are biting' coupled with Lots of praise.. 'mummy likes it when you are playing nicely' etc

sorkycake · 09/05/2007 15:09

Well I'm ashamed to admit even as I attempt to attachment parent that when Dd bit Ds1 I smacked her...hard and she never did it again! I don't know if I was more horrified that I smacked her or that she had left serious teeth marks on his skin.
We co-sleep atm with Ds2 and he feeds 3 times during the night 11pm, about 2.30am and around 6am, then about 2 hourly still during the day, but he goes to sleep at 8pm and other than a whimper to feed he stays asleep until 8am, so I just latch him on and go back to sleep.
I'm not sure it is harder this way. I didn't co-sleep this long with the other two but they slept through from 8 weeks. They had a bottle of formula at about 10-11pm and went through until 7am. I'm loathe to give any formula this time so I have to expect a bit less sleep I suppose.
I can't believe I've been bf'ing this long, it's flew over. I have no inkling to give in yet either, think I might extended feed this time.

peachygirl · 09/05/2007 16:19

Sorky I'm a bit shocked that I'm still Bfing and I am quite shocked still that I ever managed to crack it in the first place.
We went to the Odeon today to a newbies film screening of spiderman 3 DH was especially keen! Maya slept through pretty much the whole thing. She did have a bad night though and complained every time I moved her into the moses basket.

peachygirl · 10/05/2007 11:32
