Hello

I know it's not even February yet, but here is the new thread. Even though Jacob was born in January, I feel he is an honorary Febster!!!

Looking forward to more new bubs coming this way!!!

Babydriver - Really hope you lo doesnt get the pox, not just because it's unpleasant but so you can still visit your mum.

hairycaterpillar · 22/04/2007 13:33

Sorry keep forgetting things...

Moosma - re the lack of smiling, with our DS1 we don't have any photos of him smiling until about 5-6mths . It was only when I look back through photos of DS1 and compare them to DD (and now DS2).

titchy77 · 22/04/2007 13:57

Thank you for all the advice, propped her matress up last night which helped and (touchwood!) she hasn't been to bad today, doesn't sseem as uncomfortable, lets hope it lasts! Chickenpox sounds awful for a 10week old baby to have, my ds had it when he was 3 years old and that was bad so really feel for you and your lo hairy.

andyrobo237 · 22/04/2007 14:55

We too are having a better day toda - maybe it is something in the weather titchy! I have been using the infacol again and it must be doing some good - but will see the doc if can this week - saves me paying for it!

The waking him at 10 for abottle is ok - he then goes until 3am and then 7 or 8 am which is well better!

Just bundled up some outgrown clothes and put them on Ebay - any profit will fund new clothes for the summer!

bubblebell1 · 23/04/2007 14:26

hi everyone.

sorry to hear about the reflux and chicken pox

harvey had his first injections today at 11 weeks old. he cried when it happened but has settled ok and is asleep again.

he has been booked in for his bcg on friday too. i really want him to have it but am worried he is too small to as it leaves a pussy lump etc.

Hello Everyone

Sorry I've not posted in ages. DH has been away so I've been managing on my own with the help of my mum. He's back now but studying hard for exams at the weekend, so we're pottering along!

I am SO miserable as we both started Slimming World diet today. Oh, to be pregnant with no worries about size! Am loving daytime tv, tis on far too much, even though I'm often busy. Must start playing music!

Jacob is doing well - he's 16 weeks tomorrow and 12 pounds! We're very pleased as he's working his way up the middle line on his chart - I don't really care too much about such things but with him being so prem, it is a concern that he ticks all the boxes. He's smiling, though not to order and occasionally giggles. He's also found his hand and seemed to find it hilarious just looking at it in front of his face!! Going to try and add a photo or two, if I can work out how!

peachygirl · 23/04/2007 21:24

Hi all I've also not been on too much lately. We're OK, We have been having a spate of 'evening crying' which may be a bit of colic. I have been using a bit of infacol and started drinking fennel tea which tastes surprisingly nice (I'm not ususally too good with herbal teas)
Although I love my silver cross buggy I have started to look into lightweight buggies and am sort of tempted by a quinny zapp. Has anyone got one?? Otherwise I may just get a maclaren. Have been looking at ebay.

Maazaa · 23/04/2007 21:29

I fancy a Zapp as we have the Buzz. I love the Buzz but it is quite bulky for say holidays etc. Apparently the Zapp folds and will sit in the footwell of a passenger seat!

How's the house, Peachy? I'm afraid I can't help on evening crying as we're on bottles. Dr Brown's anti colic are fab but not sure what you do re b/f. Sounds like you're trying good things.

Photos on now!

suzi2 · 23/04/2007 21:32

I always fancied a zapp (as did DH) but being only suitable from 6 months and non reclining we felt that it would only be good for DS in his toddler years rather than DD. And with DS at the moment it's either walking or being carried. We did buy a combi dash recently in the sale at £50 from kiddicare. Great wee buggy. It is very small though - not a problem as DS is a tiny toddler. It reclines full and we've found it great for DD too. Very lightweight for round the town and folds neatly for the car. My mum has a maclaren techno and neither mum, DH or I have ever really gotten on with it. The recline isn't far enough to be really useful. The material makes younger ones slump in it (even though DS was sitting confidently at 5 months).

peachygirl · 23/04/2007 21:38

Not having a recline slightly puts me off. Boots have a great deal on at the moment but it's orange . Dh and I discussed it and decided it wasn't for us, even if the price is great.
Things are happening on the house front we may be exchanging this week!! But we are still being very cautious about it as our original buyer has come back on the scene.

babydrivertoo · 23/04/2007 22:26

hairycaterpillar, hope your DS has got over the worst now. My DS1 seems to have done so we're just waiting to see what happens with any of the rest of us. (MIL has apparently had cpox three times!!)

peachy, there's also the micralite, but I don't know if it has much of a recline. Hope the house thing happens.

suzi2 · 24/04/2007 10:30

Oh yes, micralites rock too! If I was doing it all again I'd possibly buy a micralite newborn then a all terrain, cheapo 3 wheeler...

SmudgeMum · 24/04/2007 11:00

Hi all, hope the spots are nearly cleared up for those with the pox!! G;ad everyone else seems to be generally ok. Hope the colic screaming soon clears up. That sounds bad news about the slimming world Maazaa. I think I am going to just try and eat sensibly rather than do a diet (although making and eating a very yummy Bailey's cheescake probably won't help!). I am still planning on sorting out exercise of some kind but find that I still ache down below if I walk too far. Anyone else still got this? DS is now 11 weeks.
Fingers crossed Peachygirl for the house move. We've still got a move abroad on the cards but I'm not holding my breath. We are however planning a holiday to the Caribbean to visit family in the middle of June. Anyone get any travelling hints/tips/warnings?

peachygirl · 24/04/2007 11:42

Hi thanks for good wishes for the house. We still waiting for or buer to get his act together but if it hasn't happened by friday the that is it for him. No sale. we have other buyers waiting in the background, A survey booked for Fri.
I'm currently madly cleaning as Mum and aunty are coming Maya is having a nap, I don't normally put her down so am pleased she is in the moses basket.
Also My headteacher has rung and she has said in princple it is all go for my three days a week in september. So I'm really pleased about that.

Maazaa · 24/04/2007 16:24

That's ace news re your job Peachy. I've been wracking my brain as to what to do. I'm going back in July to qualify for the fully paid holidays but so nervous about returning full time to a very stressful position when I just want to be home with the bubs!

forgottenfreetime · 24/04/2007 19:12

Hi, sorry not to be on for so long. Things got busy when dh got back! Chicken pox, reflux and colic sound terrible. I have heard that baby yoga has some moves for colic, maybe worth atry? I'm so lucky that Ruth doesn't have any of these probs. However, not so lucky that she sleeps more than three hours at a time at night! Still lots of time to go yet. I can't believe some of you are on weaning and going back to work already. Ruth is 7 weeks old and I hardly feel like I'm used to a newborn being around yet!
I went into work today to show everyone Ruth and have to admit that I haven't missed it at all and the visit didn't change that. Funny how you can care so much about it all one day and then not at all a few weeks later!

Nappies are working out well, thanks snugglebum and I have just put ds back in his since if I'm washing for one I may as well for two. I had a couple of months off from when I was heavily pg. Now I'm hoping that the feeling of being wet and dirty will help him want to be changed more (he's a demon wriggler) and will also prompt for potty training soon.

Marmite that sounds really tough. Do you have to use the wheelchair around the house or just when out? I can't imagine how you are managing. Hope that this isn't making you too blue?
Got to go - bedtime for ds and dd feeding frenzy beckon. Just when they are sorted dh will come home from work and ask where his dinner is!

marmitemad · 24/04/2007 20:00

Hi everyone,
thanks for the advice re slings, I am going to give Kirsty at front back and sides a call to discuss my requirements further.
After a few days feeling better (mood and arthritis) I have felt terrible today, constantly sneezing, runny nose, headache and achy/stiff - not sure if it is hayfever or a cold.
DD had her jabs today - wasn't too bad although felt a bit mean as she was giving everyone huge grins and looking very interestedly around at the new environment and burst into proper tears and full on screaming at the critical moment (and they they did both at the same time), she calmed down after a cuddle but has been very grizzly since 5pm so has had one dose of Calpol and constant cuddles from dh.
fft - I use a crutch indoors and the wheelchair/crutches outdoors depending on how I'm feeling.

andyrobo237 · 24/04/2007 20:34

we have had a better day today - I changed T onto the Cow and Gate Comfort milk last night after talking to the pharmacist - I reckon that the HV and GP have little experience of babies with bad wind - I have tried everything they have suggested and have searched the MN and the internet for days - but my friend also used this milk - reading up on so called lactose intolerance - it fitted and i reckoned that it was worth a go - tried everything else! Well he has been a different child today - still windy but not too upset with it - even early evening! I reckoned that I was feeding him every two hours whether he needed it or not and he was only taking 2-3 oz at a time - so today I fed him at 3 hours (or as near as I could make him last) - half the time he went back to sleep with some strong cuddling and ssshhhing for at least another half hour - so feel that progress is being made! He was not so sick as well - it was like he was drugged as he has been so happy!! There is a definate hungry cry from him if you take a step back to listen!

Nothing much else to report - I am going into work tomorrow for a visit - havent beent here since I went off on mat leave, and was not too bothered about going, but they moved office last weekend and I am a right nosey parker!

Been sorting out childcare as well and have fould a lovely childminder for T, just need to get DD sorted now as the after school club are full - seeing another CM tomorrow who can do school pickups - then will have to decide....

babydrivertoo · 24/04/2007 21:06

glad you had a better day andyrobo. My little bro was lactose intolerant and I remember my mum saying how much difference it made to get on to the right formula.

Couple of questions for folks out there. Did anyone use a bumbo for previous LOs and were they any good? I didn't have one last time (didn't exist) but am wondering about it this time.

And do any other bfers find that the early evening feed is tricky? DS2 seems to get really fractious, pulling at the nip, sometimes screaming. Can't really tell if its wind, tiredness, lack of milk. Massaging his lower back sometime helps but not always. Any ideas?

suzi2 · 24/04/2007 21:50

Didn't have a bumbo for DS - I heard mixed reviews and he wasn't the sort of baby to be pinned down... I thought he would escape! Was thinking about it for DD as I might need somewhere to put her that DS can't haul her out of but not sure it'll work for that. Also, part of me thinks that if babies can't sit unaided then maybe they shouldn't be sitting? Anyone else think like that? That perhaps it's defying nature?

Early evening feed trouble in my experience is usually down to being overtired (both of us!). DD seems to ravenously want to feed but actually is doing it for comfort as she doesn't know what else to do to wind down. And she ends up fussing and pulling off (elastic nipple stuff!) because she is full, perhaps windy and doesn't actually want the milk. My solution? Rock her to sleep instead

suzi2 · 24/04/2007 21:54

Oh, and I was wondering what age they would be out of a bumbo? DS was sitting unaided at just past 5 months so I'm not sure if we could/would have used it after that?

peachygirl · 24/04/2007 22:06

baby driver I've got a bumbo. I got it at an NCT sale, is there one coming up near you? I got it for £15 if we don't get much use out of it I won't feel so bad. Although Maya is petite so knowing her we will be using it for ages, she still just fits in early baby clothes!

maazaa I'm also going back to work for three weeks full time at the beginning of July to get full pay over the holiday then going 3 days from sept, I can only do those three weeks as DH will have finished his term and he will have Maya. I've already sounded out a few friends about having her for a day or half a day if he has to go in for a meeting etc. It's all a nightmare isn't it.

SmudgeMum · 25/04/2007 12:33

Afternoon. Well I'm feeling very virtuous as I have just cut the grass whilst DS was asleep. He's still asleep so thought I'd do a bit of MNing.
Suzi2 I know what you mean about the bumble and if they can't sit unaided, perhaps they're not mean to. DS loves to be upright and see what is going on so I prop him - so is that any different from a bumble .
We too have elastic nipple but it's not just early evening feed. I think it's when he's not really that hungry but just wants cuddles. He also likes pushing off against the chair/sofa with his feet and taking my boob with him.
Andyrobo, I hope last night went well with the new formula - how has today been? It must be lovely to see him more settled and not being sick so much.
FFT and Andyrobo I popped back into my work a couple of weeks ago but I actually left 6 months ago because we moved. I'm in the lucky position now of not having a job to go back to so don't have to worry about it. saying that, I do miss the people and I reckon I might want to have something to do apart from just looking after DS. Anyone else find that they can end up with a couple of things on every day and don't actually get time to just chill? It's hard work eating cake and drinking tea Off out to lunch with friends now!!!

suis · 25/04/2007 14:14

I'm another one with the elastic nipple. Not the most fun part of bfing. DS does the fussing and pulling in the early evening as well. I can't work out if he's not the hungry or if I'm short of milk by that time of day and he's complaining about it.

suzi2 · 25/04/2007 15:56

I borrowed an ameda lactaline pump and tried it out today - it is brilliant! I'm away to buy one! I don't express often but I was never much good at it with my mini electric and manual pumps. But this one is fab :-D
