Hello

I know it's not even February yet, but here is the new thread. Even though Jacob was born in January, I feel he is an honorary Febster!!!

Looking forward to more new bubs coming this way!!!

Weddings - we did the 'proper' big do. But we cut costs where we could and where we felt things weren't so important. Midn you, the whole day was over so quickly I'm not sure any of it mattered other than people had a good time.

I made the invitations, placecards and thankyou cards - dead easy and cheap. I bought all the bits from www.craftcreations.com.

We had a normal photographer, but we paid for a package that was just getting the photos taken. Basically, we got 180 pictures taken and were given a print of them all in a ring binder along with all of the negatives and jpegs on cd. So we could reprint them ourselves which saved a lot of money.

We didn't have cars. figured that noone sees the bride arriving really so my dad just drove me in my Aunties nice Lexus.

Flowers were basic. Each table had a tall glass with a couple of roses etc in. My bridesmaid and I had bouquets. All of the flowers were done by a woman who is a flower arranging enthusiast rather than a professional. She was recommended to me and she was brilliant. The flowers were beautiful, VERY fresh (one rose even rooted and is now in my back garden!) and really cheap. Our bouquets were about £25 each and the table decs were about £10 each I think.

Evening all - hope eveyone has been enjoying the sunshine today. We went to a local city farm and dd had her first go on a horse (not getting into horse riding lessons) - she wants to do it when we go to center parcs later in the year!

DS has settled down alot - still quite windy, but has drained several bottles of milk over the weekend - only 100mm bottles, but it is a start! HV is coming to weigh him tomorrow - he wil be over 10lb i reckon. I have sold alot of his newborn clothes on Ebay and made a tidy profit - not bad when alot of the stuff was given to us! I have saved the nicer stuff for my brother;s new baby in the summer.

I am contacting a cranial osteopath tomorrow just to see if they can do anything for his wind / /colic or whatever is up with his digestive system. Fo £27 it is worth a go - anyone had any experiences of this??

Bienchen · 02/04/2007 10:08

Hi, just to say I'm back after a bit of a saga with BT and changes they had to make at the local exchange.

Catherine is now over 5 weeks and on the whole pretty good but we get some bad nights (wind and frequent feeds).

Will try to read the thread when she is asleep!

Morning ladies, hope all is well with your lo. Bethany is 2 months old now and is very miserable latey more so than usual!! All she seems to do is cry, after the osteopath session last wednesday she has been a nightmare, the osteopath said she would probably be sleepy after but if anything she is the opposite!! Going again this wed so will see what happens. I to am getting married in july and am having quite a big wedding, still have loads to do but really cant get my act together to do it and its not easy with a baby who crys loads

SmudgeMum · 03/04/2007 20:39

Evening and welcome back Bienchen. DS had his jabs today so is very sleepy but clingy and whingey. I wonder what kind of night we will have. Sorry to hear Bethany is not settled titchy. I hope you have success after your next osteopathy session. How's the feeding going Marmitemad? Have you managed to get DD to latch on?
We're going away for Easter so trying to work out what to take with us for DS. I think I need to try all his clothes on him before we pack them or we'll have stuff that doesn't even fit him. Seeing as how he hates having clothes put on/off, that should be good fun! Congratulations to those of you getting married.

peachygirl · 04/04/2007 20:25

Hi all, I had my 6 week check today and all is well. I did get told off though for not drinking enough.
I'm off to my parents tomorrow with the baby without DH so wish me luck.
Have a happy chocolate filled Easter everyone

MoosMa · 04/04/2007 20:56

We had our 6 week check today too and we are also well, in fact the dr said "Very good, perfect in every way" which was nice

babydrivertoo · 04/04/2007 21:45

Hi everyone. Lovely to read the stuff about people's weddings. We got married 13 yrs ago so no specific ideas, but general advice is to do what you want to do - it's your special day, and sod the family if they want different (some of mine did!).

8 week check today. All going fine. Evan has grown an amazing 9cm since he was born, now 62 cm and 12lb. He had his jabs and is now sleeping. A bit unsettled but not too bad and haven't resorted to the Calpol yet.

Still waking twice in the night (3ish and 5ish) and not feeding much at either but at least it makes the turnaround quick so we can get back to sleep. May try over Easter to see if he will settle at 3am without a feed. I've not been inclined to let him do much crying at night for fear of waking DS1. I'm not intending to anything drastic, but letting him sort himself out for a few minutes might do the trick. Has anyone else tried anything at night time? (Dummies don't seem to be popular.)

Might also try to see if he'll take a bottle over Easter. I've a friend with a 5month old and she's finding that the only way to hold off weaning is to top up with formula bottles but has had a real struggle to get her LO to take them. I started weaning DS1 at 4.5mos last time but want to try and push it later this time if I can.

take care all.

andyrobo237 · 04/04/2007 21:53

babydrivertoo - I was under the impression that you shouldnt use a dummy if breastfeeding as it can confuse them - dont know as we are bottle feeding - we use the dummy at night to keep ds going - usually get another hour or so befoer he needs feeding - but he doesnt really cry just grunts and fidgets - makes me think that he could go longer - but dont want to try it and then have him screaming! When you pick hm up out of the basket he knows he is going to get milk and is usually starting to cry while it warms up. I should try leaving him and see what happens - we are moving him out of moses basket into cot at the weekend - he seems to thrash around in it - time for change i feel!

I had my 6 wk check (at 7 weeks!) and all was well - had usual discussion re contraceptive - like a 7 wk old child isnt enough! I dont have post natal depression or any inkling of as I was wearig make-up!!!!! Made me chuckle that did! Got ds booked in for his jabs in two weeks - have to be over the 8 weeks and the clinic is a tues and he was born on a wed!

Alocin · 05/04/2007 11:06

hello all!

Loving this motherhood thing - think it helps that Patrick seems to be remarkably placid and content (think thats from his father!). He is 6 weeks today and now weighs 11lb 4oz and is in the 91st percentile for height (not sure where he gets that from at all!). He is a ferocious feeder and knows exactly what my boobs are for. We are wicked parents - he also has a dummy, and a bottle of formula to knock him out at night - the night before last he slept from 12 til 6am - gobsmacking!

My only complaint is that this breastfeeding diet isnt working quick enough - I have lost 20lbs but have about 2 and half stone to go - boo! Where can I get some cheapish trousers in a size 16? Linen ones dont suit me, they make my fat arse look even more elephantine than it is.

Love to all, happy easter!

marmitemad · 05/04/2007 11:23

Hi everyone,
well after 2 bad nights we have just had our best ever night (8hrs sleep, 9.5 hours between feeds!!) and the timing was just perfect as well as DH had to go to Manchester at 6am yesterday and isn't back until very late tonight.
Latching on has still been a bit of a battle - I now think that she gets so excited/wound up that she doesn't realise whats in front of her. But I also think she is going through a growth spurt as she seems to want to feed pretty constantly in the evening (although this could be preparation for the long night). I gave her an extra formula feed last night after she fed from me for 70mins and was still hungry.
She has put on 9oz in 6 days which means she has jumped up to the next centile (she now weighs 8lb 6.5oz at 5weeks+4) and has grown out of 1 sleepsuit and vest.
we are going back to the osetopath tonight so hopefully looking forward to a more settled weekend.
On a different note, has anyone looked into baby swimming? I was thinking about the waterbabies classes but they start on 1st May here and Abbie will be only 9 weeks then, so am not sure if this is a bit too soon and whether we should finish the jabs first? I want to start some activity soon though as I think part of the daytime unsettledness is due to boredom.
Happy Easter everyone and hope those going away have a great time, we are going out for a large family meal on Sat, so hoping Abbie behaves herself

marmitemad · 05/04/2007 11:29

Alocin - Just saw your message after I finally finished typing mine.
I too am a bit fed up at the lack of weight loss and still wearing my maternity trousers which are soooo baggy. I have been looking for cheapish trousers/jeans but I need somewhere that does short lengths as I am only 5ft 2in.

Alocin · 05/04/2007 14:08

Marmite Mad - I got a pair of Per Una short length jeans - they fit well - were £29.50 but cashed in M and S baby clothes we were given but didnt like - so only cost me 50p!

forgottenfreetime · 05/04/2007 14:42

Hi all, I would recommend Tesco for cheap clothes and they even do different leg lengths in their jeans. Asda were good too when I was wanting cheap tops in enormous boobfeeding sizes last time round! Don't be too upset if your weight loss is slow Alocin, I held onto a stone of weight all the time I was bf with DS and then lost it in a month when I finally stopped. I'm sure that some people just need a bit of fat to keep up milk production.

Well we're doing ok here. Ruth is a golden child in the morning and early afternoon and sleeps constantly, then wakes up a bit from about 3pm and then spends the evening dozing for up to half an hour and feeding! Finding that a bit tough really but hopeful it will soon sort itself out. It just means the time to get my jobs done is definitely the morning. I am thinking of getting a dummy cos I'm not sure she's hungry in the evening since she falls asleep almost instantly on the boob again. I'm trying to wait a bit - I think that the issue is not so much 'nipple confusion' as the fact that the baby will be satisfied with the dummy when actually it needs to stimulate the breast to make more milk. I guess the answer is to use the dummy in moderation.

Also thinking of trying a bottle soon so that we have this option in the future. Just to say that once you introduce a bottle it's worth trying one every so often to keep up the familiarity - my friend did one at 6 weeks which went absolutely fine and then left it until 12 weeks just before she was going back to work and found that her baby absolutely refused it and it caused a few probs with her childcare arrangements. Hope everyone has a lovely easter weekend. Not planning anything here as dh is working for the entire holiday unfortunately, still never mind!

MoosMa · 05/04/2007 22:13

Hi Alocin, nice to see you back again! Did you ever do your birth announcement, you said labour was horrendous, what went wrong?

snugglebumnappies · 06/04/2007 10:14

Opps not been on here for ages but as DH is off today and looking after DD I can type whie I feed DS2 and DS1 has sloped off to his room again, feels like The Waltons round here! Just a quickie re baby swimming for Marmite, ^have booked DS@ in for swimming lessons and he will be 9 weeks when he starts (DD didn't start till she was 6 months but that was because there was a long wait for the classes) the advice is you don't need to wait till the vaccinations are finished, the info is on the DOH vaccination programme website. Now of to catch up with the rest of the thread!

snugglebumnappies · 06/04/2007 10:15

not sure how i managed to have a DS@ i meantDS2 of course!

babydrivertoo · 06/04/2007 20:40

Just thought I'd pop in and let people who may be worrying about jabs (or reactions to them) that Evan has been absolutely fine afterwards. Perhaps a slight tendency to be more tired and less hungry but that could be his cold, but no temperature, screaming or anything else. So the bottle of Calpol has stayed on the shelf so far.

For cheap trousers, cd try Debenhams who are having a sale at the moment.

andyrobo237 · 08/04/2007 18:36

Just popping in - the easter bunny brought me a Green and Blacks egg (well I bought it myself with DH's money - not quite the same but at least I got what I wanted!!) Will open it when dd goes to bed - she is outside skipping at the moment - latest craze!

T is gurgling on the couch (with a pillow to stop him falling off!) - wont last long! i started making 3oz bottles rather than 4oz bottles as he ws only having 2oz and i wash throwing loads away - not he is draining the 3oz bottles - so i have to make more some feeds! Little blighter!

Peace over.....

bubblebell1 · 08/04/2007 19:18

Moosma - no didnt post birth announcement - too traumatic at the time!

Long story short - went into labour (regular contractions every 15 mins or so) at 6am on Wed am. Went up to hosp at midday as wanted to know if it was the real thing! They had a feel - yes it was - 1cm dilated. Went home and came back at 7pm that night in a lot of pain - had pethidine (nice) and was put on ward to dilate slowly - had 2nd pethidine, and a bath but was in agony by 4am - managed to get to about 3.5 cm and was transferred over to delivery suite and had epidural (even nicer!). Had waters broken, meconium in them, was put on synto drip, baby's head never engaged more than 2/5s, and he'd flipped round back to back again, so as I was stranded beetle attached to drip etc he didnt have much chance of moving back. Spent all Thursday having top ups of epidural, but even that wasnt kicking in enough and was heavily reliant on gas and air by 5pm. At that point was only 7 cm dilated so nice consultant took pity on me and agreed to a c section as things were going nowhere fast and I was exhausted. Had C section, lost 1.5 litres blood, but had lovely patrick at 8.39pm that night. Hated the postnatal ward and the walk to the loo when they took catheter out, so persuaded them to let me go home on Sat lunchtime. All in all, very exhausting and disheartening as I knew all along that if his head wasnt engaged enough it probably wouldnt happen naturally and I was right. Still, 18 injections later I've lost my fear of needles!

theUrbanDryadLovesCremeEggs · 08/04/2007 19:50

hiya - quick hijack! do you think some of you could add your support to this? bf-ers and ff-ers equally welcome! thanks!!

MoosMa · 08/04/2007 21:27

Oh Alocin that sounds awful, you poor thing. So sorry you had such a bad time after all your worries. I hope you forget it soon and Patrick is lovely to you. FWIW DD1 was a mare to get out but has been a dream ever since so hopefully you'll have the same luck!

snugglebumnappies · 09/04/2007 16:47

Glad you all enjoyed your eggs, the easter bunny forgot me however with a massive pang of guilr DH told me to order that new ring sling I had been waffling on about for the past week so have now ordered DS2 a lovely light weight ring sling from the lovely Kirsty who makes the BEST slings! hope my link works it's been ages since I posted one and then it took me nearly 9 months to perfect the art of it! So am now about to have a sling sort out and stick soome of my never used ones up for sale, have to make room for another one that I have my eye on!

Alocin, sorry you had such a traumatic time, it doesn't always have to be like this, I managed a lovely home VBAC after two pretty horrible births, if you want any info on birth trauma association just shout, it's good to hear you are enjoying you LO now!
