hi all wow it's so quiet in here must be far too busy chasing after our little walkers. T update - walking like a pro well running and dancing which is so cute. Cue the 3 of us dancing around like loons. Sleeping fantastic 8-8 every night never waking and a good 1 1/2 hours in the day. Still only 8 teeth but I think some more may be imminent. Her hair seems to be going through a mad growth spurt, had to cut her fringe, it's mad sticks up everywhere and she has funny curly wings. Another blonde curly one I think. Fav toy at the minute is some plastic beads which she "wears" constantly. Follows A everywhere and must be doing whatever A is doing which as you can imgine doesn't go down too well with A.

WTWTA/Rach - 13 eek! I think I will have a meltdown when A reaches 3 in July. Sorry to hear about your job fingers crossed. Glad to hear Finn seems better right now.

lilstarry - hiya you always seem so busy makes me

Iris - bet you can't believe your big baby is looking at uni's either. Fingers crossed she gets into the uni she wants as well.

Georgie - hope you had a great time skiing.

Tickle - hope you are having a good time in England as well.

Big hellos to anyone I've missed hope you all and your LOs are doing well. xxx

Arrggh how do you encourage your LO to go from walking holding onto things (walkie, one hand etc) to letting go? I have tried stading her with her back to the sofa and sitting a couple of steps away from her, but she just plonks herself on her bum. I have tried getting her to walk holding onto two spoons instead of my fingers then letting go of the spoons, she's too smart to fall for that and immediately sits down.
Advice from all those with little walkers please!!

barrelrider · 28/02/2007 22:47

Hi girls

Not been on for ages! How is everyone getting on.

Theo having no teeth sounds cute!!! He will have teeth for the rest of his life so treasure the gummy smile.

Loved the story about the baby in the sink!!

Have missed you all! Dominic doing really well, crawling everywhere, handsome and smiley. Love him to bits!

Better go now, bed calling, keep posting everyone

Chuffed · 01/03/2007 08:35

wow it has been quiet, I expected to have a huge amount of reading to do.
Thanks for remembering Iris, apparently ds is not 'allergic' to dairy but must have an intollerance as he came up negative in all his tests but has been so well since we took him off any dairy, goat, soy etc. We use a rice formula made by metagenic which seems to be working well - funnily enough the specialist hadn't heard of it but was impressed with what she saw so might go on to use it in future.
ds is walking like he always could, can climb on the trampoline, up slide ladders, if he can't get up somewhere he wants to go he goes and gets something to make a mini step for himself.
He talks ten to the dozen as well, very few singular words but lots of 'he knows what he is talking about' sentences. Quite different to his sister.
Still no luck ttc #3 I still haven't got AF and as I have just been diagnosed with acute kidney failure it maybe unlikely to appear in the near future. I've lost 1/4 of my kidney fuction since ds was born which explains my feeling like hell in the mornings even after a full night's sleep. Still investigating why this might have happened. Nothing appeared on ultrasound so at least it doesn't appear to be a tumour or something. Doing accupuncture to try to gain strength through that area but do generally feel like crap..

iris66 · 02/03/2007 10:47

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKK!!!!!! have just found out I'm pg with No.3 (due Nov I think)
Thought I'd been putting a bit of weight on and being more vacant than normal

ForcesSweetheart · 02/03/2007 12:42

Congratulations Iris!!!!

iris66 · 02/03/2007 13:50

thanks Lisa - just had to tell someone - I've been walking round in a daze since finding out! I don't even know why I had the urge to test (especially midmorning!) but DH is chuffed to bits so that's good - we weren't planning on trying until later in the year! Going to wait until DD has finished the rest of her exams (mid May)before telling her - just hope I can keep my mouth shut until then!

CHUFFED - glad that DS is ok on his new diet. He sounds adorable. And so sorry to hear about your kidney trouble - you must be so relieved after your scan. Hope all goes well with the acupuncture.

wherethewildthingsare · 05/03/2007 05:29

Whoooooooooooooooo! Massive congratulations Iris, to you, Dom, dd and dp!

loomer · 05/03/2007 12:04

Wow, congratulations Iris!!!
And Lilstarry too!!

Let's hope some of this rubs off for those of you who are TTC...

No such thoughts here. We're currently enjoying a protracted virus, which has knocked DD sideways, me and DH less so, but after ten days it's getting really boring. I returned to work last week, which was bizarre and depressing and exciting and rejuvenating all at the same time. Scarlett had her first two days at nursery, which she absolutely loved, but she also picked up the Bug of Gunkiness. Since then she's been oozing green stuff from nose and eyes pretty much constantly. Urgh!

Chuffed, so sorry to hear about your kidney failure - that sounds just awful, I really hope that the acupuncture makes a difference for you.

Forcessweetheart - sounds like you're doing all the right things, try not to get too frustrated, she'll go for it when she's good and ready. I think DD only really was brave enough when DH and I sat on the floor a couple of steps apart, and she wobbled between the two of us.

WTWTA - have you any news on your job? That's a horrible thing to go through, I've been made redundant before now, and it's just depressing and tedious, it made me so angry. Hope things pan out well for you.

Georgie - how was skiing? Are all your bones and joints intact? Is the glutimus maximus a little sore?

Tickle - hope your trip has been fun and easy... anything about the UK that you've really enjoyed re-discovering or indulging in since you've been over?

Sweetkitty - so glad to hear that T is doing so well, and sleeping so well in her room... long may it continue eh?

Right I'd best go and do another session of eye-wiping and nose-sucking, yum, yum !

Good thoughts and spring-like sunshine rainbows for everybody...

HeyThereGeorgieGirl · 06/03/2007 11:50

Bloody hell Iris. HUGE congrats. Hope all goes smoothly. Brilliant news.

Chuffed - not so great news on your front. really sorry to hear about kidney failure. Yikes. Hope accupuncture cures, or at least makes tolerable the condition so you can get (safely) pg again.

Forcessweetheart - is that you Lise? Love the name change. V 1940's. Will be expecting perfect rendition of Chatanooga Choo Choo before too long!

WTWTA - boo to your company. any news?

Hi Kitty. Your two sound v similar to my 2. Libs totally besotted with Mollie. Follows her around like puppy dog.

Lilstarry - how's things with you? All ok with the pg I hope.

Skiing was THE FREEKIN' BEST THING EVER!!!!!!! Very much bitten by ski bug. Mollie totally Frans Klammer! 5 days of lessons and then straight down the mountain with us on last day. Couple of huge crashes into netting (with sheer drop otherside) that gave me a heart attack but she wasn't fazed. Popped skis back on and off she went. I lasted for 1 day on snowboard. Hated it. Back on skis and happy as larry. Worst injury was me running into bedside table and getting huge bruise on knee. Owwwwww. Libby star in the creche. She was there with her bezzer mate (another family came with us). All in all can't bloody wait for next year to do it all again. Has certainly put all my ideas of getting pg this year on hold as want to be fit as fiddle and non lumpy for next years ski feast!!!!!!

OK, that's enough from me.

Kisses to all

G xx

lyra41 · 06/03/2007 20:32

Congrats and a half to you Iris, fab news. So what will be your age gap, just under 2 years I'm guessing. Wonderful, a little buddy for Dominic, lucky lad. I am a tad envious, but I don't think I'll convince dh - ds kept us awake 3 - 4.30 am last night, little b**r!

All's well here in sunny Manchester. Did anyone hear me last night on the Chris Evans show? Very exciting, I got through on "Woman's Minute" a quiz show. 1st time in ages I got butterflies! Quite a thrill. Didn't win however, boo, but it was fun all the same.

Ds is FINALLY walking, just 3 or 4 steps, but he does seem to feel pleased with himself when he does it. My mum rushed out and bought him some shoes, sort of trainer-ish Clarkes ones, with a cross over velcro fastening in dark red. Very stylish!

Great to catch up with everyone's news, sorry I don't have time to say hi to everyone individually.

Love Lyra

lyra41 · 06/03/2007 20:40

P.S. You can always go to www.bbc.co.uk/radio2 and click listen again on the chris evans show for Monday, if you want to hear me go out in a blaze of glory. It's about 35 mins or so into the show, you can go forward to that if you don't want to listen to the previous 35 mins.

iris66 · 07/03/2007 11:15

Hi all

Lyra - hiya lovely long time no see! - just listened to your 5 minutes of fame You sounded fab - just how I imagined you (the American guy sounded like a prat - he should have lost for that alone )
Alex has shoes - awwwwww! I ought to get Dom some really so he can explore outside a bit but I just haven't got round to it

Georgie - so you quite enjoyed the ski trip then lol. It sounds like you had the right idea going with friends - what a great holiday. DD recently came back from a week's skiing in Austria in a similarly excited (and bruised) state. She's really caught the travel bug & is already planning her next trip (Tenerife - as a girlie, end of school jaunt!)

Loomer - "nurseries" are really covers for sophisticated bug breeding and infection spreading operations On the plus side getting loads out of the way early can only mean fewer later on (....can't it?)
How are you enjoying work? Are you doing the same as before?

WTWTA - how's your mum doing? The work uncertainty sounds like the last thing you need
Sorry if you've mentioned it already but are you likely to be able to work near home or is it going to be a major commute every day?(you used to go to Reading alot if I remember correctly)

Dom's cutting back teeth at the mo which are apparently quite painful (do they normally miss out cutting the eye teeth until later??)He's got huge purplish/whitish lumps on his gums - one has come through and it's massive! The tooth broke the gum and he's now got white pointy tram lines on one side. It's doing nothing to help his predisposition to sink his teeth into us either!

Hi to all I've missed - take care XX

lyra41 · 08/03/2007 10:31

Iris
Ty so much for listening to me on the radio, you're such a sweetie, but you probably know that. The American guy has very generously given the theatre tickets to me, so dd and me and her friend and mum are off to see Scooby Doo at the Lowry tonight, so maybe he's all right after all. I'm not sure how dh will manage though, we have to go out at 6pm, so he'll be putting Alex to bed without me, I still feed him to sleep, so that's going to be quite a challenge for him. Oh well, he's made of stern stuff....

Georgie
Glad you enjoyed the skiing, we're never tried it, but would love to, it always seems too expensive. Ds has been offerred a ski trip through school and that was always the plan, to let each of them go on a school trip, but it costs £800 (it's to Italy), so again, it's a bit too much, we could stretch to £500 I think so I'm hoping next year's is more in our price range.

loomer
Sorry to hear about the snot monster, it's very much in evidence around here too, although not too bad atm. I hope Scarlett's feeling better by now. Lovely to hear from you.

lyra41 · 08/03/2007 10:35

Rach
Hope your work thing gets sorted, these kinds of change are such a hassle to sort I know, but hopefully some good will come of it. How is your mum doing? Mine's ok now, after breaking her collar bone in a car crash last year, and she looks after Alex for me 2 days a week, which generally works out great for both, as they are a total mutual admiration society. He will grow up thinking he's the centre of the universe, but there we are.

I'm on a playground duty now so I'd better scoot.

Love L

sweetkitty · 14/03/2007 22:11

OMG not been around for a while and see what I miss???!!!

Iris - massive congratulations to you (everywhere I look there seems to be pregnant woman aplenty I think I've started a friend with all my close friends as well, well who can blame them my girls are just too uber cute) wishing you a happy pregnancy and don't be going and getting all new due in Nov mates remember your old gang

Lyra - good to hear from you and well done to A on the walking front bless him

Georgie - glad you had a fabbo time with the skiing can just imagine your two all kitted out in little ski outfits in the future, have said to DP we will have to go skiing one year once the DDs are older

Loomer - hope Scarlett has recovered? Everywhere you look right now toddlers seem to have gunk oozing from them. Part and parcel I think.

Chuffed - aww honey so sorry to hear about your kidney troubles fingers crossed you get over it soon and can look forward to another LO soon

forcessweetheart - are you Lisa? just clicked who you are she will let go when she's good and ready, I knwo it's frustrating when you see and hear babies the same age are up and off especially when it's your first but she will get there soon I'm sure.

big hugs to anyone I've missed

update on T - not much since last time really she's now running (!) eek and dancing oh and has figured out climbing stairs too (double eek) has everyone else noticed that all of a sudden they have gone from babies to little boys/girls? Same thing happened with Abbie once they start to walk the baby chubbiness goes they seem to stretch and their face changes too lovely in some ways but sad in others, where's my baby gone? Speaking of which we are ttc no 3 in June, definately not ttc next month as that would mean another Jan baby and I refuse to be that pregnant over Christmas again! Am aiming for a Spring baby this time - yes I know best laid plans and these babies don't arrive to timetables do they? Am I insane - probably will let you all know.

Best be off take care xxx

iris66 · 15/03/2007 20:08

Sweetkitty - top tip for TTC. Don't!! we weren't planning on trying until the end of the year (haven't been exactly careful, granted, but given our ages......) Clearly it only takes one relaxed evening out (first time out on our own for months) and, well, you know the rest (was the first of the other for weeks too !!!)valentines night has a lot to answer for Know what you mean about our LOs suddenly growing up.. that first birthday really is a marker fro the end of babyhood isn't it.

Lyra - me? sweetie? you'll ruin my reputation (aww shucks, thanks though)
How was Scooby Doo? (I take back what I said about the American bloke now and feel suitably contrite)

DS trapped his finger in the hinge side of the lounge door today I was making a cuppa and heard an almighty scream so rushed in, saw he was behind the door (so closed it to behind me) only to realised I'd crushed it further!!!! Just how bad can you feel!!!! I don't know who was crying more, me or him. It caught right on the nail too and his finger was almost flat. Much arnica and rescue remedy later and he seems ok. It's all looking normal again now anyway. These bits of parenting I don't like. It reminds me of how I thwacked DD's head on the corner of a wall carrying her upstairs and not turning properly but I guess we've all got stories in a similar vein [hopeful emoticon]

Hope everyone's keeping well. The bits of sunshine we're getting seem to be more frequent so they'll all be toddling about outside before we know it!

wherethewildthingsare · 16/03/2007 10:26

Hi everyone

Lyra - I listened to your 5 mins of fame, and you do sound exactly like I imagined!

Chuffed - how are you? A colleague at work has been having problems and they've found a benign tumour which has been agonising for her, she's going to have to have it removed.

Bad news about my Mum, after having to go private to get the tests done quicker than one ever 2 weeks (she's fading away at 71 with lack of nutrition), they have found a cancerous tumour on her pancreas . I am devastated, I never thought she would go before my dad (in hosptial for the last 8 years with vascular - stroke induced - dementia) or my grandma (94). We are waiting to hear if they can operate, but whatever they do, the prognosis is not good, within a year most people are dead. Sorry to be so miserable!

I still have a job at the moment but it seems to be in Liverpool! (I'm there almost every week) and have a stinking cold, due to go up again on Mother's Day.

BTW Finn is still bottom shuffling and not walking but apparently this is normal. We actually have a consultant appointment in 2 weeks about his ears. I'm really down on the NHS at the mo!

Take care all.

iris66 · 17/03/2007 10:26

WTWTA - Oh I'm so sorry about your mum (((hug))) I hope you get some good news about the op and that they can keep her comfortable.

Chuffed · 19/03/2007 09:43

Good news from my end is there has been some improvement in my kidneys so 'something' must be working but they are still doing a referral to find out what is 'going on'.
WTWTA - so sorry to hear that bad news - in a way it is nice to know what is going on but it doesn't make it any better does it.

Thanks for all your well wishes, things are just ticking along. ds is a real adventurer and into everything especially anything electronic/computer/remote/buttons etc he seems to be really in his element.

He finally got his first pair of 'shoes' as we haven't really needed them because it has been summer and they are a '6'. Mister big foot. Mrs bigfoot not quite 3 has a 10.5 . Hopefully they won't be too tall with it.

sweetkitty · 21/03/2007 22:37

WTWTA - so sorry to hear about your mum loads of virtual hugs and thoughts for you (feels so inadequate really but don't know what else to say)

Chuffed - fingers crossed it's good news for your kidneys. You sound like you make them big down your way, T got her first shoes a few weeks ago and they were 4 1/2, Abbie is 2.8months and only a size 6 she's been a 6 for ages not that I'm complaining as it means less shoes are needed.

Iris - hope DS's finger is better now don't worry they all have these little mishaps and it's you that feels the worst. It's horrid when you see something happening and can't get there in time to prevent it. So how much of a gap are you going to have about 20 months (too tired to work it out) small gaps are fab, my two are really starting to interact now and look out for each other all the time. T calls Abbie aaaaeeeeyyyyy (I think) watching the two of them dancing or just laughing together just melts you.

Hope everyone else is doing ok better go and catch some zzzzzz'ssss these full nights of sleep are bliss I can tell you. T is a magic sleeper now goes down easily chats away for about 5 mins to herself then you don't hear a peep until 8 the next morning, what a turnaround.

lilymolly · 22/03/2007 15:35

Hi, have not been on this thread before and have not read it, but wanted to ask your advice.

DD has got 2 new teeth recently making it 6 in total, so this may have something to do with the way she is feeling, but she is often wingy, miserable and to be quite frank stroppy!! Although she is like this with other, it seems to be mainly with me. She is conctantly testing boundries, and having paddies when I stop her, I thought it was the terrible 2s which where bad, not at the age of 1.

I think she may be teething, but she does seem very irritable all of the time. She is also physically exhausted by about 6pm, but is waking up now at 6am, instead of her usual 7.30 (i had it quite good for a while)

Is it a phase they are going thru , or is it just dd personality. TBH i am finding it very hard work, and dread sometimes being alone with her Please help?

ForcesSweetheart · 25/03/2007 20:06

Oh WTWTA I'm so sorry to hear about your mum. I dread the day something happens to my mum. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Iris, it's awful when they really hurt themselves, particularly when you feel ike you could have prevented it. Lola took a dive out of her buggy last week, head-first, straight onto the pavement! I had literally just plonked her in the buggy, turned around to pick up her toy off the floor before strapping her in, and in that second off she flew. Cue bump like an egg and big nasty graze on her forehead. I panicked so much about the possibility of severe head injuries I rang 999! Poor ambulance guy was lovely as he tried very hard not to make me feel like a neurotic first time mum, and suggested some ice and calpol!
Lillymolly - fraid I'm no expert. My DD is currently cutting her molars, first one is thru but others giving her real pain, so she's frequently a bit grumpy. I usually find though that she just needs a quick nap to put her in a better mood.
SK - yes its me with a new nickname. Changed it for Valentines day and liked it, so it stuck. She's finally taken some independent steps, about 8-10 has been the most, but she very rarely does it, lucky if she takes 2 or 3 steps on her own a day.

sweetkitty · 28/03/2007 22:57

FS - hiya sorry to hear about Lola's fall bless you it is horrible though. She'll be walking in no time I'm sure just taking her time I know it's hard when everyone else's babies seem to have been walking for ages but she'll be up and running soon enough.

Lilymolly - hi welcome to the thread, what's your DDs name and when was she born? Sorry just being nosy. It sounds to me like she is a perfectly normal one year old. They get so frustrated as they are developing so fast and their speech isn't as fast so they cannot communicate their needs like sleep, drink, eat so they just lash out and scream as it's the only thing they can do. My DD2 has tantrums as well, her new word is NO like if you shoo her out the kitchen she will go NO NO NO NO NO!! Teeth can be a factor as well. My advice is try and do something physical with her each day to stimulate her and wear her out. We go to a few toddler groups and also things like swimming and just running around somewhere safe to burn off a bit of energy helps. It gets easier in the summer I find if you have a safe garden they can run around in.

Things are going well here, the nice weather has been great, haven't been online much PC having a bit of a mare right now. T is just mad, as well as mastering walking on grass (which she was scared of last week) she's now running and climbing. Can climb up the stairs now and has started to master coming down them backwards. Turned around yesterday and she had climbed on Abbie's trampoline and the two of them were bouncing on it. My nerves are shattered. It's having a big sister to teach her all these scary things to do I'm sure.

Anyway love to you all especially WTWTA thinking of you xxxx

Rach

Thinking and praying about you and your mum. I hope she starts to feel better and to enjoy some quality time with you all. How are Finn's ears? your other ds has the same problem doesn't he? I remember you mentioning about him having to have them vacuumed out regularly to prevent infection. Is it the same sort of thing with Finn?

Iris

How is your pg going? DO you feel ok, not too sick etc.? I do envy you a little, but not from the energy point of view. If it was me, I think I'd be in bed at 8 every night. Have you had your first scan yet? Are you on a due in Sept 07 thread now? Don't desert us please!!

FS

Alex isn't a great walker yet either. He can do it, but seems to think it's just a party trick to get some applause, and he prefers to crawl everywhere, unless his trundle truck is around, in which case he'll use that and walk. I think it's just the balance part of it all that's taking longer to come for him. I'm not worried though, I can see he'll be up and running as SK says, soon enough!

I wish the sunny weather would come back. I love being out in the garden with Alex just pottering around and doing a bit of planting etc. I want to re-surface the play area over the Easter hols. There used to be bark chippings down under the climbing frame, but over the past couple of years it's eroded down to the soil, so I need to dig it out and fill to about 4". With any luck my ds1 will give me a hand. Dh is not a great one for jobs in the garden. it's all i can do to persuade him to cut the grass occasionally.

End of my lunch hour now, so I'll love you and leave you.
