Aargh, the nursery here have just said they'll be closing before I finish work from September. Wtf am I supposed to do now?

magpiedreams · 19/07/2016 14:04

dom what?! As in closing down or as in closing too early?
If closing down find out what the staff are going to be doing, I know of a couple of people who've got a childminder or nanny from known nursery staff in similar circumstances.
If closing too early surely they will have no clients?! I imagine you pick up between 4.30-6 which is when most parents needs childcare for!
Did you have a C.M too? Could she help? Other nursery recommendations from friends?

Maybebabybee · 19/07/2016 14:09

Anbesol/bonjela/calpol doing big all here!!

Maybebabybee · 19/07/2016 14:09

Bog all even.

TheMshipIsBack · 19/07/2016 15:14

Yay paddling pools! Lovely neighbour with two kids either side DS in age invited us over to play in theirs this afternoon. So nice to cool off our feet! T liked standing supported in the water. Now DS is having a rare nap in his room while T and I do a nursing nap and rest. T's adorable in a t-shirt and nappy. Love the bright colours of our nappy wraps.

DomesticAnarchist · 19/07/2016 17:12

Hi, sorry, I was in a right flap earlier (and trying to pump at the same time).

The nursery on site will be closing at 4pm from September. I finish work after 4pm (as I would imagine most people using a nursery would!). The nursery is term time only so they close on Friday. This gives me 3 days to sort something else out.

Worst part is I only heard because a colleague came to tell another colleague (who also hadn't been told).

I'm fuming - apart from WTF I'm going to do, they're essentially giving less than a week's notice since they're closed till September.

Wonderful childminder only works 3 days a week, sadly.

The staff have said they could come to a private arrangement, but then they'd be working in the nursery without insurance, etc.

There is a wonderful nursery closer to home but it doesn't open early enough to drop both boys off (at different places) and still get to work on time.

I'm fuming. I thought I had things sorted well before he was even born.

Oh no Dom, how bloody frustrating!!! No advice but CakeBrewChocolate for you.

I've only just realised you're meant to leave 3 hours between applications of Anbesol and bonjela Confused I've been applying it more often than that! Should I worry???

In other news, it's 5.30pm and DS has just gone to bed Hmm

magpiedreams · 19/07/2016 17:45

dom I am fuming on your behalf.

  1. Ask the closer nursey if there's any chance they'll be changing to earlier opening, given their competitor has changed their hours?
  2. Check if CM is considering increasing her days, maybe for a slightly higher rate?
  3. Is there a good member of staff at the nursery prepared to register as a nanny and bring home your DS2, collecting DS1 and get them both tea, and also tidy/clean their rooms and wash their clothes?? If. Worked it could be awesome but lots of unknowns. Plus the headache of nanny tax etc.
  4. I don't like the sound of 'uninsured private arrangement' - if they're prepared to take your money in exchange for looking after your child why don't they run their business accordingly?
  5. Try not to panic, hard I know. These things always work out (because they have to I know, but they do)
Stress on a sweaty-sweaty day is not nice.

On the subject of which, anyone else feel their baby is getting a generous shot of sweat with their breast feeds today?

magpiedreams · 19/07/2016 17:47

maybe x posted, I feel like going to bed too. I don't blame him. Hope you have a good night Grin

1frenchfoodie · 19/07/2016 18:06

Dom that is ridiculous, can't see how it works for most parents and the lack of notice is crazy.

magpie the park with 4 kids, in this heat that makes me want to lie down. Shame it was cut short.

Crazy hot here but BF working well by popping boobs out while E lays on changing mat (on dining table), it is just too hot to hold her.

mship would love to show off our cute nappy wraps with tshirts but E is in a phase of clawing at her belly so the cuteness is short lived as tshirt is bunched up by chin and covered in dribble and belly gets redder and redder.

RhubarbAndMustard · 19/07/2016 18:36

Vroc I've been getting the water out of the perfect prep but have realised that is just filtered tap water, so used tap this pm.

Dom that's shocking. Who finishes work before 4?? Fx you find something.

J has been screaming again this evening and getting into such a state. Bonjela in. Next stop Calpol. Sad

DomesticAnarchist · 19/07/2016 20:17

Great suggestions, magpie but...

Closer nursery to me has zero competition from work nursery as its in a different town. Close nursery is also hugely oversubscribed, whereas work nursery... isn't.

CM won't increase her days. Even when presented with squishy newborn and nursery sob-story! I already tried!

I don't know the staff at the work nursery yet, and it's highly unlikely I could get them to perform any nanny duties as its a different town. (Although if I could afford a nanny that would pick up DS1 too...)

Nope, not doing the uninsured arrangement thing at all. Not touching that with a barge pole!

And you're right, something will work.

There's rumours abounding about the relationship between my work and the nursery. Many of my colleagues are similarly shafted. We have a few days to see how this pans out. And we're waiting for the local (and frankly preferable) nursery to get back to us with place availability too.

DS2 has gone to sleep better just a sleeping bag and nappy tonight (we were swaddle-podded before yesterday) and there's a lovely breeze coming in the window and cloud cover so the back of the house isn't still baking.

Good luck for good nights everyone!

Me624 · 19/07/2016 20:32

Dom that's shit about the nursery. Hope you manage to get something sorted quickly.

It is absolutely baking here still. DS's room was 29 degrees when I put him to bed and has now dropped to 28. Apparently the lowest it will drop to all night is 22! Last night I put him in nappy and half unzipped sleeping bag but it's way too warm for that even, so he's just in his nappy tonight and nothing else. We've put a fan in his room too. I just hope we don't get too many wake ups because he's got his legs stuck through the bars again!

Trinpy · 19/07/2016 21:05

Oh no Dom what a nightmare. I hope you get something sorted soon. Don't suppose any of your colleagues with dc live near to you so you could do a nanny share? Bit of a long shot, I know .

Wow magpie I get stressed out taking 2 kids out for the day, you're one brave lady taking 4 out!

I hope all the teething/hot babies sleep well tonight and give their mums a break!

Dh has bought a huuuuge fan but it just seems to be pushing the hot air around the room Hmm.

QforCucumber · 19/07/2016 21:17

Fingers crossed for great sleeps all round.
Got a pool - ds loved it, and I loved that it was only £9 haha.
dom how crap of the nursery, they'll surely lose a lot of business though?!
Our house is cool at the front (I say cool our room is currently 24 degrees, but the back where Rs bedroom is is currently 31 degrees! Great to have a back garden in the sun, awful for when he goes in there properly. He has a nappy and vest tonight and the fan on too. App thinks thunderstorms at 5am here so hopefully it'll cool somewhat.

March 2016 - I can't think of a pithy title because I'm too sleep deprived :/
Purpleprickles · 19/07/2016 23:01

Too hot here. We've done a bedroom swap. E is in ds room as it's a cool 28 degrees compared to our room which is 32. Dh is in with E on a matress on the floor instead of climbing into the cabin bed and ds is with me in my bed with his sweaty legs all over the place. So far E has slept well in just a body suit and nappy. I'm too hot to sleep!

We got a soppy cup too today as recommended by the HV at clinic. E likes holding it but has no idea about drinking from it. There was limited choice in boots of pink or blue. Why oh why?? It's a bloody cup.

Dom that is utterly shit. There is something about school based nurseries I'm sure. They are random. Ds went to a great one just for teachers and term time only but they would close at 3 on the last day of term knowing full well that all of the parents taught in schools a good drive away and also finished at 3. I really hope you get sorted, childcare stress is the pits.

Purpleprickles · 19/07/2016 23:02

Soppy cup Grin that's a spot on auto correct considering E wore all the water!

Maybebabybee · 19/07/2016 23:09

DS wide awake. Completely unheard of for him - he usually feeds and goes right back down. Sad

Timetogrowup2016 · 20/07/2016 07:07

Maybe- hope the rest of the night was ok. Do you think it was due to this early night?
C went to bed at 7:30 last night, she slept until 1 has a feed and went back down to 5:00. Normally it's more like bed at 8:30 and up at 6 (with wake ups in between)
I think her being in her own room is what's made most of the difference to her night time sleep

Me624 · 20/07/2016 08:57

Time DS is the same, things improved so much once we moved him to his own room.

Now that DS can roll himself over properly he is spending most of the nights on his tummy. I know the lullaby trust advice is that it's ok once they can roll but it still makes me slightly nervous! I flipped him over last night when I went to bed and within seconds he'd just rolled onto his tummy again so it's obviously more comfortable for him.

We only had one wake up last night when DS got his foot stuck in the cot bars. I didn't sleep well though, we gave DS our fan as his room was about 100 degrees and had to swelter all night long ourselves!

Maybebabybee · 20/07/2016 08:58

Worst night we've had since he was born tbh. Wide awake from 11-12.30, wouldn't settle in his cot. Eventually DP rocked him in pram while I got 2 hours sleep, then he was up again from 3 til 5, then asleep til 7. Just got him down for a nap but am destroyed.

It's his teeth, poor thing - nothing seems to be helping.

TheMshipIsBack · 20/07/2016 09:02

Hope everyone got an ok night after all that. The thunderstorms have just rolled in here (Edinburgh) and it's brutally humid. DD did ok in just a nappy and 1 tog sleeping bag last night, but it wasn't anywhere near as hot as you guys are dealing with.

purple try the supermarket? IIRC tommee tippee free flow cups come in lots of nice colours. I've got red, orange and green ones I think, left over from DS.

TheMshipIsBack · 20/07/2016 09:03

xpost - maybe that's awful. Take care of yourself today!

Me624 · 20/07/2016 09:36

maybe that sounds rough Sad if you can see the tooth then hopefully it won't be this bad for much longer. The rest of us have all of this to come!

Purple it was the same in the boots I went to! Just bought DS the blue one but I know what you mean about it being annoying everything being blue or pink.

Maybebabybee · 20/07/2016 09:53

me yes the first tooth has been poking through the gum for a week now but I can see the second one just underneath the surface - think that's what's causing so much discomfort.

So it's his two side teeth coming through first. One on either side. Isn't it meant to be the front two?!
