We have the same here swear!! 45 mins and counting... I had an endoscopy yday and was sedated as they were longer then normal and I'm not allowed to breastfeed for 24 hours so had to just bottle feed him expressed milk how I'm having to pump both sides and DS is talking, kicking and sucking his hand... Happy days!
Must be the heat though it's like a sauna in our house and the fan is just circulating warm air!
Hope you get some sleep soon swear!

Maybebabybee · 19/07/2016 06:37

Sorry to hear of hot awake babies! DS went down in his cot ok after being rocked in the pram but was awake to feed much more than usual...every 1.5 hours. He did just go back to sleep after so not sure if he's drinking more due to heat or comfort feeding due to teething...who knows. Just managed to get him back down in his cot so hope I can get his naps back on track today. Ordered a party bag of teething remedies off amazon so let's see if any of them work...

RhubarbAndMustard · 19/07/2016 06:55

Purple I had my first day with two of them yesterday. A pretty bad (and shouty) morning was followed by a pretty good rest of the day. (Being in a pub beer garden helped greatly) Good luck to you. I think keeping busy is the answer. We have made 3 lists of things to do at home, things to do out and about for free and 'treat trips'. Just going to work our way through them.

J has been screaming/crying quite a lot over last few days. Think it's a mixture of heat and teeth. Maybe let us know if any of the remedies work. We have bonjela, water teethers and a nuby teething dummy. I remember Ashton & Parsons being quite good too.

Swear and First, hope you got back to sleep.

DomesticAnarchist · 19/07/2016 07:05

I need to try not to get ranty about homeopathic teething "remedies". (I think they're unethical in so many ways). Bonjela & calpol are fairly bombproof, I reckon. We've got the water filled teethers too (cheap ones from Tesco) buy DS would far rather chew his fingers.

I was up and rocking him at least twice overnight. Once was because he was coughing - I'm starting to wonder if he's got asthma. Maybe worth a doc's appt (but the new diagnosing protocol hasn't filtered down yet as far as I know).

It's already 22C here. They reckon 35C in the south east. Which would be lovely if we didn't have little people to deal with.

dom I don't believe in homeopathic remedies either (Amber teething necklaces anyone?!) but I'm so desperate I'll try anything - bonjela and Anbesol are doing sweet sod all! And calpol isn't touching it either. Neurofen helps though.

Swearwolf · 19/07/2016 07:32

She was up for over two hours in the end! Lots of wriggly feeding and a couple of periods of leaving her awake in her cot, eventually she dropped off and stayed that way. I'm now feeling (and no doubt looking) like death, great for my trip into work, will set off hot and chubby beautifully. Oh well, at least I'll get an hour in an air conditioned office. How was the rest of your night ftm!

FirstTimeMummy25 · 19/07/2016 08:09

Glad you got back to sleep swear. DS stayed awake for about 1.5 hours then drifted off then hubby's alarm went off and game over! He's did go back to sleep briefly! Like you I feel like death warmed up! We have a wedding reception just down the road ( literally) this Friday and my mum was going to have DS for a couple of hours but I'm contemplating not going to the wedding and using that time to sleep I'm so tired is that bad Blush...
Getting DS weighed today see if he's Made a better gain... Out of interest those of you express feeding how much do you give in a bottle? As o had endoscopy yday I'm unable to feed DS from boob for 24 hours so I'm feeding bottles of expressed I've been giving 150ml and at the end of each bottle he cries as if he wants more but if I give him more he's sick loads after like he's over feeding??
Sorry I have no advise on teething remedies other then those mentioned and that's just going by what I've heard from others. Hope everyone's Babes copeok with weather today!

Timetogrowup2016 · 19/07/2016 08:13

Very hot today here
C slept in a nappy until 12am feed and then I put a short sleeve vest on her.
Her bedroom doesn't get the sun in the afternoon though so it's the coolest room in the flat.
Don't know whether to stay in today and try to keep cool or take her out but obviously don't want her in the sun

Maybebabybee · 19/07/2016 08:29

FirstTimeMummy when we give expressed milk I also do a 150ml bottle to start and if DS finishes it I top it up with more.

Maybebabybee · 19/07/2016 08:31

time having the same dilemma here but I think we will pop out, was supposed to do mum and baby Pilates this morning but it's too bloody hot to do exercise of any kind. However that won't stop me going to meet my Pilates friend for tea and cake afterwards Smile

I have a snooze shade for the buggy so he's never in the sun...helps him sleep too, bonus!

Are we supposed to put sun cream on them at this age?

MrsElls · 19/07/2016 08:58

I just put both kids to bed in a nappy last night, was 28 degrees in our room so had,a fan on for most of the night. When I got in to bed C was flat out with her hands behind her head looking very much like she was sunbathing on a beach!

You can put sun cream on them but I think the advice is keep them out of the sun if possible until 6 months. I will be heading somewhere air conditioned today or to a supermarket chiller aisle.

Purpleprickles · 19/07/2016 09:13

MrsE I'm off to M&S after our baby group today to hang out in the air conditioned cafe as long as I can and then I'll move to the food hall which is always freezing Grin We normally do the walk to the baby group which takes about 40mins but today I'm driving. I think we'll both have heat stroke otherwise.

E slept in a body suit last night, I was nervous not having the gro bag because I'm sure she associates it with bedtime but we did ok. I also slept with all the blinds open to let some air in and then closed them at dawn when she was feeding so she wouldn't be woken up by the light. Not sure that made any difference to her sleep, I just felt hotter.

Thanks for the tips Rhu and well done for surviving the day! We are off to the aquarium tomorrow with mil and my niece and nephew. I hope it has air con! Then ds has to join us at bootcamp on Thursday and baby sensory on Friday. I'm sure she won't mind though. I don't want to change everything I do over the summer and loose touch with all my groups because I'm just getting to know people. I'll cut back on the baby stay and plays though as its a bit unfair to drag him to those.

QforCucumber · 19/07/2016 09:16

ftm I give just over 5oz in expressed, he cries when finished but then burps and is happy again. I do love not having to wind him anymore - he sits up straight backed now so wind just comes up itself.

I've been looking at a tiny paddling pool just to sit with him in the garden but they all say over 12 months :-(
We have a big square parasol whixh goes over the table outside but putting it on its side on the grass gives a lovely shaded area for him to sit in.

FirstTimeMummy25 · 19/07/2016 09:41

Thank you all for your advise :)
Q - DH mentioned about a paddling pool yesterday and was going to look today shame they are all 1 year plus.

Timetogrowup2016 · 19/07/2016 09:50

I thought of a paddling pool yesterday although I have no garden but I was going to set it up in the lounge as she won't be able to splash a lot at the moment anyway.
Even though it says 12 plus surely if you don't put much water in it's ok anyway?
I was going to chuck a swim nappy on her and fill a few inches and let her splash in it?

QforCucumber · 19/07/2016 09:55

Do you think the 12 months plus just means so they're able to get in and put themselves? I'm not planning on leaving him obviosly so maybe you're right time jut a couple of inches and me sat with him shouldn't be an issue should it?
Not sure on the splashing though time I had ds in the bath with me last night and he realised that if he hits the water it goes everywhere - started shaking his arms and legs loads and giving real hearty laughs with it, the cutest thing ever.

RhubarbAndMustard · 19/07/2016 09:58

I was thinking of putting him in his bath seat in the paddling pool. It's only the same as the bath then.

I put sun cream on J yesterday and he was fine. I'm keeping him indoors today though. It's just too hot to risk it. I'm also offering water occasionally too.

Timetogrowup2016 · 19/07/2016 10:20

Q go for it.
I am buying one but cba to go out and get one.

Is anyone else up/down with their babies all day long? It's pick up put down all day long and she's killing my back...
She likes to be stood up on me and it hurts my arms and back... but she's not happy any other way and just wants to wiggle around. So frustrating. I get more a break taking her for a walk but I've been a along 5 plus miles a day with her and am fed up with it...

Wingingitdaily · 19/07/2016 10:21

I got dd a paddling pool didn't put much water in and made sure it wasn't freezing she lays in her bath seat in it and loves it. Would recommend.

Dd has started trying to roll in the pram top so have had to get the seat bit out. She looks way to grown up in it :(

vroc81 · 19/07/2016 12:23

rhu are you offering cooled boiled or tap water? I wondered to just offer a little in a sippy cup now she's four months and it's not like it matters if she tips it down herself!

We've used sun cream as avoid sun but occasionally in carrier put it on legs just in case..

ftm I give approx 150ml per feed sometimes she only does 120 of it and sometimes I have to go back for more.. That's not helpful at all sorry!

Me624 · 19/07/2016 12:25

I've just been and bought a paddling pool, got the last one on the shelf at sainsburys! It says 3+ on it but like others I'm just going to put an inch of water in and stay with him the entire time. First he needs a nap though!

Me624 · 19/07/2016 12:52

Anyone else's baby off their milk? DS is ff and normally gobbles down his bottles but today he's not interested. Sure it's just the heat but I'm worried he'll get dehydrated. Like vroc I bought a sippy cup yesterday which he mainly poured down his front - I think a couple of mouthfuls went in! My DM has suggested giving him water on a tea spoon. He's napping now so I'll try that when he wakes up I think.

Trinpy · 19/07/2016 12:55

I wish I had a paddling pool, thats a great idea (quite fancy ignore myself actually!).

We went to the park yesterday morning but I think it was a bit too hot for ds2 so we're staying at home today. I've got ds2 in just his nappy and Ds1 is having a naked day - he's not potty trained yet but will take himself off to the toilet if he's naked so we're saving on nappies for as long as this heat wave carries on!

I've been putting suncream on ds2 even though he's been in the shade just to be safe. But I don't know what the proper advice is.

I don't believe in homeopathic teething medicine either. There's no proof they work unlike proper medicines (although I know loads of people of swear by them). A nice calpol/bonjela combo works well. When they start on solids you can give them cold sticks of cucumber to chew on - used to be ds' favourite food when he was a baby.

Trinpy · 19/07/2016 12:56

Oh and I forgot Anbesol. Love that stuff!

magpiedreams · 19/07/2016 13:37

Oh. My. Word. It's hot. And I am looking after my friend's little girl as well as my own 3. In an overly ambitious moment I decided to drive us all to a nice park where there is a new play area next to lots of trees to picnic and then play. All very excited. All sun creamed, hatted, toileted and off we went. DS2 fell asleep in the car, perfect. Nice shady picnic spot found. Then friends DD says she needs a wee and can't wait. No loos in the park. Decided I can't really make someone else's child pee under a tree as I would my own (though mine have bladders of steel like me and certainly wouldn't need it 39mons after going!). So now we're home, finishing the picnic having not played on the new park. And obviously DS2 woke up with all the in-out-in-out. Oh joy.
