Weeonion could have written the Dames ds1 quiet shy easy really going to enrol him in theatre dancer classes he has finally agreed to something. Ds2 noisy into everything climbs everything inc step stool in kitchen!! Amazing how 2 children can be so different.

Annarose2014 · 10/06/2016 08:54

Thanks weeonion! Your DD sounds hilarious! I can't help wondering what this little new one will be like as DS is very placid and agreeable in nature. So am slightly terrified I'm going to get a bossy little madam and will get an awful shock as I'm not used to it! Grin

The hot weather broke over night and the temp went down a bit and DS slept in till.....6.45! Hallelujah!

We're in a massive Thomas the Tank Engine phase here. We eventually got him some of the little metal trains and he plays with them silently for hours on the coffer table. It's weird how much of a little boy he is when we haven't given him any gender specific stuff at all. He has loads of different toys but if it's not a car or a train he has zero interest! Bizarre!

haventgotaclue1 · 10/06/2016 09:19

Well the "10 hour" theory went right out the Window last night: 7.30pm-4.40am....am now wondering if she's waking up because she's hungry? ??

Annarose2014 · 10/06/2016 09:27

Well tonight give her a slice of toast last thing rather than start feeding her that early. Cos I suspect if they're full of toast and still waking up that early it's definitely not hunger but something else, like temperature.

Annarose2014 · 10/06/2016 09:31

posmork I would also start a heavy schedule of watering the shit out of that 2am bottle. He's waking up for that reward and he's getting it. But a watery reward isn't quite so appealing!

That's how we got rid of bedtime & morning milk. Just watering it down so they didn't notice and it became 100% warm water. Now we give him a teeny bit of warm water at bedtime but very little and he doesn't even bother with it most mornings and waits for his beaker with breakfast.

porsmork · 10/06/2016 12:27

Thanks Anna, we tried that before and it worked, so I don't know why we've gone backwards. Lack of resolve I guess. He's been in a funny mood today too. Didn't want breakfast, and wouldn't settle to anything, then was hungry as soon as we got to our sensory class, so we sat out most of that, then he grizzled to leave. Got home for lunch at 11, then he asked to nap at 12. Hopefully he'll sleep for a while as grandparents are picking him up at 3 for a night away. Maybe he'll sleep until then.
Had to rush out of the class this morning as I honestly thought I might cry! Serves me right for going to bed late, nap for me now too!

porsmork · 10/06/2016 12:32

And Anna, totally the same with cars and trains here too. He can go for ages just pushing them around, lining them up and putting them in boxes. Trying to do colour matching games and words with the damn things just so he's getting some variety. We didn't push him that way at all, as me and dh have no interest, but it's just appeared naturally. Postman Pat is his favourite at the moment. How much to do you guys do? We do 1 episode of pat at supper time, and probably another cheeky 15-30 mins during the day if it's just me and him at home all day.

haventgotaclue1 · 10/06/2016 13:48

Thanks for the suggestion Anna - I was thinking of increasing her portion size at dinner time as we finish eating around 5.45, 6.20 she's in the bath, then it's get changed, story time and bed by 7 so not really any opportunity for a slice of toast. You may well be right about temperature because although she was up from 4.40, she didn't have breakfast until 2 hours later and was fine with that....but then again, we've been having 5am wake-ups for longer than it's ben hot Confused.

Maybe (another) phase......

Annarose2014 · 10/06/2016 14:00

Well we had an hour earlier all last week when the monitor was 25/26 and we have no vest and no grobag. And the duvet kicked off straight away. So if it's 27 in her room + grobag it could be a reason, who knows?

Maybe try the grobag with very little clothes on underneath? Confused

posmork we have TV from about 8.30 - 9.30 in the morning and then an hour (or more!) before dinner. The older he gets the less he watches we notice as now he often wanders off to find his cars.

BTW today he pushed me towards the front door, pointed out the glass at the car and said "CA!" very insistently. He wanted to go somewhere! So we did! I was so proud! 2nd word after Teddy! First time giving a verbal instruction! Yayyyyy!

moggle · 10/06/2016 14:05

DD is going cold turkey with screens at the moment porsmork as we used the ipad and my iphone A LOT on holiday!! Her favourite are the Little Baby Bum youtube videos (constantly repeating nursery rhymes with animation), especially the wheels on the bus, her enthusiastic 'wheels go round and round' action is a joy to behold... She will watch my phone or ipad for hours if we'd let her (record is 45 mins on hol, with it about 1ft from her face the whole time... terrible parenting!) It's great for distracting her if we need her to just stay in one place for a bit, but the meltdown when we take it away is rarely worth it!

Funnily enough though she doesn't really seem interested in the TV so it is rarely on during the day, and if I keep my phone and the ipad out of sight she doesn't bug me about it...

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 10/06/2016 17:04

Haven't ds2 is ravenous when he wakes at 5ish he has a bf then dh takes him and he eats a bowl weetabix, a fruit pot, some crackers and on work day I am down by 6.20 and he will have so e toast or more weetabix. He then has breakfast at nursery at 8.30am or cooked breakfast at weekend. He sometimes sleeps til 6-7am but whatever ti!me he goes to bed he wakes between 5+7 and iia def hungry and will down a beaker of water too. He had plenty food before bed and a bf. 11hrs is a good long time and completely normal

Strawberryfield12 · 11/06/2016 08:41

So DD has her first best friend in the nursery... I took her to drop off yesterday and she run off to that other little girl all smiles and waving. Key worker explained that DD really likes her and they play a lot together. Took me by surprise that the friendships start so early.

Since turning clocks for summer time DD doesn't go to bed before 9pm, far too light for her even with the black out curtains. Means we don't have much of a downtime, but on other hand means we don't have to be at home 6pm sharp to put her to bed if we want to stay out and about. She usually points with finger towards the bedroom when she is ready for bed and drops off really quick or goes on trashing around and screaming a lot if we take her to the bedroom when she isn't ready for bed. Guess which option we go for... :)

porsmork · 11/06/2016 09:01

Had a night out last night in London, was amazing, and I'm currently sitting in my living room with a cup a and no one to interrupt me. Gawd, I love ds, but it's been so nice to have a lie in and some quiet. Apparently he didn't eat much tea last night, and has a bit of a runny bum, so I think his teeth are causing him a bit of trouble. He doesn't seem dribble, but maybe he"s swallowing it all, hence the runny bum.
That's great about your ds Anna, yay for 'CA!'.
I try to keep him away from phone and iPad all the time, but grandparents are much more lenient, so I find after he's seen them he is much more demanding of it.
Off on my chicken keeping course today, who knows what'll happen?!

MrsAukerman · 11/06/2016 13:15

Hi everyone.
DS is lovely most of the time at the moment. But when he's not he's horrid! Best toys at the mo are his ball and his megablocks. Still loves books too. We let him watch dumper truck videos on YouTube to allow us our morning brew in bed in peace. Honestly couldn't give a shit if it's considered bad parenting.
Sleep mainly OK now. Generally let's DH leave the room while he's still awake but I struggle as he's more clingy to me.
Best night's sleep was 1930 to 0630 after a day hillwalking with total of 30m of naps. Definitely not ready to stop the naps though as they're the only way I can cope with solo parenting.
Lots of words now which is fun.
Door
Ball
Pop
Drink
Swings
Weeeee
Dick
Shit
Bike
No
Uh oh
Shoes
Hair
Tea
Hot
Beer
Wine
Gin

Lots more

Maybe time to stop swearing and drinking so much!

Annarose2014 · 11/06/2016 14:17

That list! Grin My language is horrendous. And this is terrible to admit, but I'm going to really really miss swearing like a sailor in my own home. I keep it all in outside the house, all butter wouldn't melt, and then inside I can be hilariously colourful and I love it.

But I suspect the clock is ticking as today DS has learnt Hi! 2 words in 2 days! (Waits for the inevitable plateau where no more come for a month...)

It's so funny though as he keeps practising it. I come out of the loo and am presented with him standing there "Hi!". He's said it at every opportunity, complete with little wave. Adorable.

Must. Stop. Cursing. .....Confused

MrsAukerman · 11/06/2016 14:42

We have a lot more words than that but that list is funny tbh!
Hello and bye-bye are favourites too.
Truck sounds quite like fuck when said by him. That's cute. Shit is always in context which is worrying.....

HalfStar · 11/06/2016 17:48

Fucking
Chickenpox.
Apparently dd2 did escape after all last autumn when her sister got it so now she has it Shock
What are the odds? All the slobbering over each other they do.
east what was that stuff you recommended, virasoothe was it? We have awful nappies and a good crop of spots but no temp so far.

haventgotaclue1 · 11/06/2016 19:17

Oh bugger Half Sad. Yeah, Virasoothe was a godsend when DD had them earlier in the year - used it 2-3 times a day and she hardly scratched at all. Did find that the spots took longest to clear up in the nappy area as can't get the air to it and pretty much always damp... Hope she doesn't get it too bad Flowers

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 12/06/2016 16:13

Hope better soon haven't and yes virasoothe

Went out last night meet few friends every 3-4mths I normally drive this time friend drove and plan to have 1 or 2 white wine spritzers failed 4 large white wine spritzers and a baby up for an hr at 3am makes for feeling uber white today even a cooked breekie and Gregg's sausage roll hadn't solved this nor the 2hr nap eurgh

porsmork · 12/06/2016 17:34

Oh yuk east, hope good nights sleep will fix it. White wine spritzer is my downfall too. Actually thinking about giving up drinking, I feel so grotty after just one nowadays!
How is the pox going haven't?

Chicken course on Saturday was fab. I think I'm going to get some chooks for the garden....!

porsmork · 12/06/2016 17:35

Sorry, meant you half. Typos!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 13/06/2016 07:12

Well perhaps yesterday wasn't a hangover up from 2am puking and now got the d part of d&v feel awful shame iits not a nursery day

haventgotaclue1 · 13/06/2016 15:03

Oh eastmids Sad - really hope you feel better soon Flowers

Annarose2014 · 14/06/2016 14:30

How are you eastmids?

halfstar how are the spots?

We seem to be going through a lucky patch. Sleeping through and now that DS has discovered he can communicate a bit better as his comprehension has gone through the roof, he's the happiest boy on earth. He's understanding us and we're understanding him. (Turns out that between pointing at food and saying "car" all his needs are basically met lol)

And it's such a hilarious time. Yesterday he was playing and I said we have to change your nappy and he said "Ohhh..." in a deeply disappointed tone. And I said yes I know but we just have to change that nappy and he just went ::heavy sigh:: "Okayyyy......"

I had to honestly stop myself bursting laughing - the drama of him!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/06/2016 16:28

Thanks am feeling better than yesterday had early night - ds2 went to bed at 5.30pm expected to be up at 4.30am for day he woke at 9+4 quick cuddle and back down and up at 6am I have then slept most if today.

Managed some toast but can't face cooking good jobs boys are at nursery and school/childminders so quick snack will suffice.

Poor ds2 yesterday watched too much TV, played with everything he shouldn't and ate crap - well cereal and crisps for snacks, leftover mash with beans for lunch (figured same as jacket n beans) and chicken nuggets for dinner he had couple fruit pots and a banana or2!!
