So glad I raised the question re pull-ups....we wouldn't have had that great tutorial from Anna otherwise Grin Wink! Don't know about anyone else, but I was actually following it with my hand doing the motions as described Blush

But, not sure now. Had a look on the box of Aldi nappies I have and they don't seem to do pull-ups until much later - definitely not in a size 4 anyway. May try honing my distraction techniques a bit more first then.

We've had a really good day today: for the first time, DD was really interactive at the Rhyme Time sees we go to at the local library which was brilliant to see. And maybe the best bit...she napped for 2.5 hours this afternoon - in fact I woke her up at 3.30! HOWEVER, don't know what it's going to do to her sleep tonight...she's been in bed for 20 mins and I can hear her mumbling to herself over the monitor.....

I was wondering about pull ups too. Excellent nappy skills anna! We do all wet nappies stood up and just lie her down at the end of a poo change to make sure that's she's completely clean. She hates lying down for it though so I pass her my phone or something.

Favourite toys here are kitchen utensils- she's claimed my spatula, some jelly moulds and other plastic bits and will play with them for ages. She also likes mark making and biting crayons will have to try the water "painting", I'm too lazy for real paint just yet.

Crying with laughter about Jackson Pollock paintings and crack brushing techniques Grin

Actually one thing DD isn't a pain in the back - she still lies down for nappy change, only protests if she's been up to something interesting and got distracted. I was wondering about size 5 nappies. She is in 4+ now, during the day it's perfect, but the night often ends up soaking wet. For about week she has been having massive wee just as she starts waking, so she goes from being dry to leaking in a matter of seconds. Was wondering if size 5 would help with that?

DD has started to feed me with her food, she sticks bits in my mouths and looks so pleased with herself. I can do with baby snacks and even a sippy cup, but when she tries to stick the bottle of milk in my mouth I am not impressed.

Thank god for you guys, who else would give a blow by blow account of crack scraping?! Consider myself educated!

Dd doesn't love a nappy change but doesn't hate it. Normally ok if she can 'help' by gettimg the mat/holding the nappy/putting wipes away. She loves tidying up (for now, ask me again in a year or 2).

Wow! All quiet over the weekend - we must have been busy Grin

Don't know what's happened to DD over the last week, but it's like she's become a different child! Grin - it's a good thing! Bath-time is almost totally crying / screaming free; she's giving kisses without us having to ask for them; my leg is constantly being hugged; nappy changes are (almost) and oasis of calmness....what's going on?!? Are there any more Wonder Week-esque things??? Maybe she's just come through one?....

Anyway, the latest "big thing" here is standing on a kitchen chair "helping" me when I'm cooking / washing up etc...the helping took the form of eating all the raw veg I was chopping up yesterday...until she put a bit of raw onion in her mouth Grin - the look and accompanying sounds were priceless!

Oh, anyone in size 5 nappies yet? Over the last couple of nights DD's had major leaks and so am wondering if it's time to go up a size...

How's everyone else doing?

havent we have been trying size 5 last two nights, she still managed to leak... Eh... What's next? Adult nappies? Put her below the waist in the binbag? She has been drinking lots of water, milk etc recently, and she's been leaking almost every night.

Have to admit that DD is pretty chilled (other than claiming everything as 'mine' and a few dinnertime battles). We were at a picnic with lots of DP's friends and their families, it was a running (sarcastic) joke about DD being 'such a whinger and really hard work'. I think it's just there were lots of kids around for her to watch, friendly dogs to play with, loads of food - what is there to whinge about?? (I was very proud of how lovely she was though)

Funny you should ask about nappies, I thought she was still in size 4+ but turns out I bought size 5 when I did my last Aldi stock up! It was only when DP pointed out that our friends twins were in size 5's at 10 months that I realised DD is as well. Which make sense because these twins weigh the same as DD!! She's getting bigger but not really gaining weight, just stretching out, she's 23lb, I'd say she was average, you'd never call her skinny but certainly lost the baby chub she had. weeps

havent we've been sailing in serene waters lately too. Apart from bedtime. Which is fine in terms of temperament as he remains good humoured, but he's now not falling asleep till 8. Which is a worry but we're trying to just roll with it as we've tried everything to change it and nothing works!

But apart from that all is lovely - except for the blasted canines coming through. Rivers of drool! He's like a Basset Hound! And fingers in the mouth all the time and a new heavy dependance in the bloody dummy. Ah well. It'll pass.

We've been in size 5s for about 9 months. Blush He really is a massive child, isn't he??? Grin He's well out of 12-18 month trousers now and his tops/vests changed a while back. I guess that's why his talking is so late - he's grown like a weed!

DH said yesterday that he thinks he's growing out of his size 5 shoes! Shock

Couple nappy ideas sz5 is less absorbent than 4+ the + means its more absorbent so try 5+. Another tip is stick a sanitary towel in the nappy or buy a few reusable boosters that are meant for cloth nappies.

Think it'll be 5+ then...(thanks eastmids Smile). Only went to Aldi at the weekend and bought another 2 boxes of 4+ Hmm - may be giving them away to her slightly younger ( and much slimmer) cousin.

Anna I also think we've got more teeth on the move - the dribbling has started again and like you, have noticed lots of fingers being stuffed in her mouth - she also completely mangled a Calpol syringe today Confused...bring it on, we're old hands at this bloody teething business ...

Haven't we still fit aldi 4+ but struggle with pampers baby dry just using last few up tend to pop on for nursery as they change them at 9am so its barely on. We don't go through too many nappies as nursery 4days and they provide nappies.

Think if you take them back aldi will swap for bigger size.

We've been in size 5 overnight for a couple of months. Think it was due to a couple of leaky nappies overnight that made us switch up. He's dinky, so could still fit in size 4. We won't do pull-ups, as, like east, I've heard a few people say they are a waste of time. I've popped some cloth training pants on him a couple of times, but not made the transition over fully as he's not quite there yet with telling me he wants to wee (though he has done a couple of times). I change him standing up, it's a pain with popper nappies, but not with the Velcro.

Rang dh with a milestone today. Went in to see ds after his nap, we're having a tickle and he trumped. I teased him, saying 'ohhh you did a trump!' And ds looked at me, squeezed out another one on purpose, then giggled. I thought we were a few years off fart jokes!

My two little chickens are settling in well, I've just been outside in the garden for a couple of hours watching them peck about and chirrup at each other. They seem like the best of pals. It's adorable.

Strawberry... Is it leaking in the same place all the time? If so, could be fit rather then absorbency. Ds always leaked at the front on to his tummy, as he'd be lying on his belly, and the urine would soak down and up, rather than behind. Looser nappies seemed to help, weirdly.

Size 5.5 shoes here and Morrison's savers size 5 nappies overnight (cloth in the day).
Lots more words too. He's hilarious!

porsmork the leaks usually are on the back around the legs, one side or other, there have been some extreme leakage where even her pyjama top is wet. I think 5+ is on cards here.

Great picture MrsAukerman. Oh wow, 5,5 shoes! DD is still loosing her size 4 ones, I ended up putting bits of cottonwool in the toes to keep her shoes on.

Dd is tiny but been in size 5 for a couple of months. It felt like the size 4 was too small on her bum or something?! Anyway we vacillate between nappies and pull ups. Never used pull-ups with dd1 but she wasn't quite as much of a pain in the arse about getting changed.

Terrible nights here. Up for 2 hours and feels like she's regressed in some way as she's crying when she wakes in the morning too. Think she has been v constipated since being ill and off her food, so for a couple of days she was only eating beige shite which must have bunged her up. So that's part of the issue too.
So over it though. In contrast to you others it feels like she is in a bit of a stormy period again but it's probably just there was a lot going on.

Is she still constipated? If so get some Movicol and bung it into whatever she'll drink. You can try a spoonful of lactolose if you don't fancy that but Movicol tends to work well on toddlers.

Brilliant pic!

We're still firmly in size 4 and I've just checked old amazon orders and she's been in size 4 for a year now!! We use 4+ most of the time but the sizing is fine. She was dead chubby until she started crawling and since then has slimmed down a lot. Still on 50th percentile despite all my worries about her fussiness with food.
For leaks I find with us, no vest at night encourages leaks as nappy not held so tight to bum so potential for a gap, and also too small a vest at night makes them leak as the gel doesn't have room to expand. But we are pretty lucky as rarely ever have leaks.

We made the mistake of laughing at DD on Sunday when we saw her picking her nose and then putting her finger in her mouth and proclaiming "yumyumyummy!". Now she won't stop doing it. Urgh! You have to be so careful with them at the moment with things like this!

I am finding this a great age though on the whole, she's getting so funny. Her words are suddenly increasing too, she came out with "zebra" yesterday, and "garden" (well, darden), and then when we were cycling to nursery this morning - first time in over a month - when I got the bike out of the garage she said "bike!". When she does something she's pleased with we get "Yay!" and a round of applause for herself.

She is also spending a lot of time trying to jump... it's the most hilarious thing ever! she tries so hard and thinks shes doing it (gives herself a clap) but her feet haven't left the ground yet. I swear it's better to watch than them trying to walk!

moggle the "yummyummyummy" bit made me laugh - we made the mistake of saying "yummy yummy in my tummy" and from then on whenever we say "yummy" she lifts up her top to bare her tummy to the world Grin - in fact she seems to do it whenever she likes something....on Sunday we went for a walk in the local woods and she was showing the wild flowers her tummy Hmm

strawberry how nice of her! Does that come under "sharing is caring" I wonder? Grin

Thank god DS hasn't discovered his nose contents yet. Though it's only a matter of time......bleeuugh.

I have a question about shampoo. DS has fair kinda sandy coloured hair and we've noticed that over the past few weeks its started to look a bit dry and frizzy. And its more noticeable now its gotten longer and more mullety at the back. (Still receding hairline at the front though.)

DH says he looks "a bit early Dr Frasier Crane" and it's hilariously accurate.

We've only ever used ph neutral/skin friendly/moisturising oil bath stuff on it (E45, Oilatum etc). We found J&J stuff very drying so never liked it much. We haven't bothered with dedicated shampoo yet though as we thought the bath stuff was mild enough if rinsed well. Maybe not?

Any suggestions for silkier hair?

How often do you wash his hair Anna? DD has a bath every night, but we only wash her hair twice a week: Mondays (after swimming lessons) and Thursdays (just because!). We use J&J baby shampoo and have found it to be ok....I do only use a very small amount though.

I use Childs farm shampoo and body wash on DD hair, but only once or twice a week (she has a bath alternate days and the other days I just pour water over her hair to get any food out!). Her baby hair is starting to get really ratty and dry at the end though; where I cut her fringe at the front it is in much better nick. I think first proper hair cut is not far off for DD, just to get the ends trimmed.

We only wash it three times a week as we only bath him that much as hes prone to excema on his body. His scalp is perfect though, we've never had any skin problems on his head.

It's possible it's just breakage from sleeping on it now that it's getting longer as he does sleep on his back. Not sure though. DH thinks it's the bath stuff.
