Congratulations Mrs Marmite I hope the day was as you wanted, fab choice of dress and shoes Smile

Missi I hope Z's rash goes and you get released, surely you are due a few months of plain sailing soon!

C didn't have a very good day yesterday, she barely slept and fed every couple of hours. I think it was a combination of the heat and bad wind. I can't remember who posted the link to the baby yoga wind exercises but that worked a treat for getting several large farts out but she still seemed uncomfortable poor thing. She's not a baby that cries a lot but yesterday she had a really distressed cry all day, it breaks your heart.

Timetogrowup2016 · 10/05/2016 03:57

So tired. Been up since 12am and baby wont stay asleep for longer than ten minutes.
Last night dreadful to. Three hours broken sleep :(
This cant go on. I'm in tears every night and my oh is to. I don't feel safe with the baby and my oh looks like his going to collapse to. Yesterday getting on a bus he started wobbling and nearly fainted we are so tired.

I can't do this anymore. I really can't keep living with the constant screaming and no sleep and the doctor yesterday said they won't do anything as her weight gain is now ok again :(
I've tried everything... nothing is working

Timetogrowup2016 · 10/05/2016 04:57

She slept for half an hour :( and I couldn't sleep.

Now up with baby to let my oh get a bit of sleep.
Somethings wrong isn't it?
Surely she should be sleeping a bit better than half an hour at a time.
How can we possibly live like this. It's getting worse not better

Time - sure there's nothing wrong , but if you are worried maybe call your health visitor or see the doctor again, is she just constantly wanting to feed of just crying for comfort? it will get better so keep positive :) ( easier said than done tho when sleep deprived I know)... Do you have any friends/family who can come over today and have her for a few hours whilst you get some well deserved rest? When DS went through a stage of doing this I was the same all emotional and my OH was worried about me as he knew I wouldn't ask for help and my mum turned up and took DS and dog off my hands so I could catch up on some sleep it's amazing what a couple of hours of undisturbed sleep can do!
If not does she sleep in the day normally? If so make sure you get your head down at the same time? Failing that- slip some vodka in a bottle?? (Joking:) )

dobbythedoggy · 10/05/2016 05:55

Try a different gp time if you can. Unfortunately some babies do just cry but I know parents that have insisted on trying all the opptions and ended up with a changed baby. Or maybe health visitor to talk about her crying in general and how it is effecting you all. You know it isn't just you as she cry for your oh mil and sil but it is so hard when they settle out and about but no where else so you don't get the chance to catch up.

My big girl has had a horrible night have been up since 1am with her and now eddy is up for unsually his 3rd feed of the night.

Timetogrowup2016 · 10/05/2016 08:16

She's not wanting to feed a lot no.
Just can't settle. Didn't even seem in pain or windy just refuses to bloody sleep. She's even been refusing when out and about the last two days as well. A dummy works but she drops it every few minutes then we are back to square one. I broke down at 3am this morning. Life is just a night mare and I'm not enjoying a second of my day anymore.
The babies shattered. I'm shattered. The house is a mess.
She doesn't nap in the day well either. Her sleep is just crap. Me and oh are going to need a major catch up at the weekend or I'll go potty .
Theirs no one around to take her today so I just have to keep my eyes open.
She's all ready having trouble falling asleep. Been asleep for ten and woken up.
I've tried car seat. Moses basket. Cot. Swing chair. Bouncy chair. Swaddle. White noise. Dummy. Rocking. Rolling up blankets to make her feel more cozy and secure..nothing works with this baby.
It's all a big huge fucking mess.

Like my sil said when her son had bad colic she couldn't enjoy him and I can't enjoy her like this.

Why should we put up with this just because she's gaining weight?!.
I've made a docs app about my mental health and they've suggested health visitor does home visits. But they'll flame me when they see how much time she spends in car seats and swings.
Dobby - sorry you had a bad night also. Hope dd is Ok

TriJo · 10/05/2016 08:42

Is there any chance she could have a dairy allergy Time?

Discovered yesterday that a little man who was a bit too fond of bottles at 3-5 days old is now a bottle refuser at 6 weeks! I pumped a bottle to leave with my husband so I could go swimming, fed him before I left - and got a frantic call when I was changing to say that he was howling and that I needed to rush home... He wouldn't go near the bottle, didn't quite know what to do with a nipple that wasn't attached to a boob - and pretty much anger-nursed as soon as I could flop out a boob!

Purpleprickles · 10/05/2016 09:14

Time they won't flame you. You have to say I am using a car seat/swing because it is the only way we settles. This is how desperate we have become. Can you call you HV and see if they can come today as an emergency. You need a professional supporting you and oh. Big hugs to you.

Trijo sorry to hear about the bottle refusing, it's good though that you have a great bfeeder. I used to get frantic calls from dh with ds as I'd go off food shopping when he was in from work for a bit of a break.

E has celebrated her 2 month (calendar) birthday by sleeping 10.30pm til 4.50am! By fluke I managed to get her last feed at 10pm and for last night at least it worked to keep her going. Even if it's a one off those 6.5 hours were good.

Purpleprickles · 10/05/2016 09:16

Marmite I forgot to say I'm so pleased to hear you had a lovely wedding day. Has dh got time off this week now for a sort of honeymoon?

Me624 · 10/05/2016 09:39

Time I agree with the others that you must get professional help. I can't remember who it was who mentioned sure start, they have volunteers who may be able to come out and take DD from you for a few hours so you can sleep. Your HV should have more information. Shout as loud as you can to get the help you need.

dobby I hope your DD feels better. I salute all of you who are managing with two or more!

We had a good night, DS seems to now be reliably sleeping through from 7.30/8pm to 5/5.30am. But he has his jabs today so prepared for it all to go very wrong tonight!

QforCucumber · 10/05/2016 10:12

Time is she crying or just literally laid awake? I've had a few accidental naps on the sofa while ds is awake laid kicking and happy on his playgym mat on the lounge floor, if she's not kicking off is that something you could do? Soon wake up when he whimpers or cries, and it may help your sanity.

Noone will flame you if that's the only way you can get her to sleep. They will look at her and see if they can help, sometimes, hopefully, a fresh pair of eyes might notice something you haven't.

dobbythedoggy · 10/05/2016 10:15

Dd's fine running around without a care in the world. She was having bad dreams last night about putting daddy in the bin. Poor thing kept waking up really upset and going right back to sleep only to start shouting out again a few minutes later.

time that's exactly what you need to stress you're trying everything even things that are not advised and you aren't comfortable using as a long term soloution but nothing is currently working. Why should she have to potentially be left in pain just because she is gaining weight. It isn't fair on any of you!

Paperblank · 10/05/2016 11:57

Time you really need to contact your HV honey. They are there to help you not flame you. It will help you I promise. X

Just to let you know...I've spoken to Beaut. She's okay and she'll be back on the thread soon! I told her we were all thinking of her x

Time I had a good cry on the health visitor this morning for Gs 6week visit. She was so lovely and had reccomemdations all over the place with different clinics and even a phone number that's for self referrals. I think I felt better just having a good vent and cry.
Please give your health visitor a ring! Where abouts are you? Are any of us close by just to visit for a chin wag or as a babysitter? I'm in Leeds if that's any help!

Tri I think I might be in the same boat with refusing bottles, I haven't tried him on one when he's really hungry though so I might do a test this eve. He has six days to remember how much he loved them before because me and DP have gig tickets!

marmiteandcheeseplease · 10/05/2016 14:44

time I agree with everyone else you definitely need to push for more support, speak to your HV/GP/both again. Hope things have improved today.

I'm having the opposite problem in that E has been asleep all day, literally just waking every few hours for a feed, and I'm a little worried. I changed her nappy an hour ago and it was very dry, she'd maybe had one wee in 3 hours. when she is awake she is alert and just wants to feed. Yesterday she was pretty sleepy during the day too and woke up in the evening for a couple of hours so I'm not sure if I should be concerned, as she doesn't have a temp or anything. Has anyone else experienced this? She's almost 8 weeks and I've read there is a growth spurt around now which can make them sleepy but not sure if it's that or something else...

FirstTimeMummy25 · 10/05/2016 16:06

Marmite - has DD had her jabs yet? DS had his jabs last week and this made him sleepy and I was worried but apparently it's normal?

marmiteandcheeseplease · 10/05/2016 17:10

No she hasn't had her jabs yet, due next week. But she woke up about half an hour after I posted that, fed like mad, did a huge wee and leaked out of her nappy, and has been awake ever since! So guessing she was just having some random sleepy day...

paper glad to know beaut is doing ok!

All this talk of bottle refusing is making me worried... DD1 was a bottle refuser and I told myself this time I would pump and try to introduce a bottle earlier. Total fail! El is 8 weeks in Thursday and my pump is still gathering dust in the cupboard Confused

MrsElls · 10/05/2016 17:34

time did you try that crysis helpline that someone recommended before, I seem to remember I was staffed by volunteers who had gone through the same thing so might be able to reassure you that it will get better if nothing else.

Also with ds I watched you tube videos that told you babies had different cries for different things and told you how to identify it. I initially thought it was mumbo jumbo but actually the explained that what was going on in their bodies altered how they cried, I'll try to find a link, if you can identify that she is always making the same cry that could indicate a problem whereas if she cycles through all the cries she may just be generally unsettled. If you can understand what it is though at least you can try the right tactic first.

marmite C has slept loads today as well, I'm putting it down to her having poor sleep while it has been so hot and she's enjoying it being a bit cooler.

MrsElls · 10/05/2016 21:01

time and anyone else with a crying baby really, look up dunstan baby language on you tube, the only one I can remember is if the cry makes a 'neh' sound it means they are hungry but there are also specific sounds for wind, burping, needing a change etc. With ds I seem to remember I could easily identify hungry and wind cries after watching a few of the videos, need to rewatch them really.

Poppins27 · 10/05/2016 21:13

Tri and wool I've just had a bottle refuser on my hands (after originally taking one fine) but although it's taken 2 weeks or so we're back on track. The trick with my DS is he likes the bottle really really warm. It was my DP that discovered this after a meltdown meant I abandoned ship and left him to it with a bottle of formula. (Now combi feeding so I can get a bit of a break as DS had been particularly hard work the last week and I've needed a break...also at a wedding at the weekend so Mil having DS. DS will not take ebm from a bottle which is annoying after pumping and freezing 20+ ounces!!) it had been a massive game of perseverance though!!

Time I can only echo what others have said re speaking to the HV. I hit what I feel was rock bottom on Friday, DS was being an absolute arse, went to baby massage with him and he screamed and screamed, watching all the other mums with placid babies was gut wrenching, then I went to sil's house and again DS screamed...this was met with comments like 'is this all that he does', 'I've never seen him happy, I don't believe he smiles'. This resulted in lots of tears, cross words with DP as he couldn't cope either but at least gets a 'break' during the day when at work!! It made me look at the situation and I identified that DS was overtired, I was missing his sleep cues, and he was napping but had only had about 45 mins sleep all day collectively. Since then I've been very rigid with getting DS to sleep when he needs it, first sign of a whinge or yawn, (however that happens, car drive, swing...just whatever works!!) and have also started a proper bedtime routine, bath, final feed upstairs in darkened room. And yes it's only day 3 but already he is a lot more manageable. He seems more relaxed too, and is getting easier to get to sleep...even in my arms being cuddles today which he would have flatly refused last week!!). And I'm more relaxed which I'm sure he is picking up on!!

Sorry that was an essay, I've not been on in a few days as just couldn't type anything positive so didn't type anything at all!! But feeling better :-)

Congratulations marmite, me and DP aren't married as I would like a small day just as you planned but he would prefer a proper bash. It really gets to me I don't have my DCs surname!! You looked beautiful.

Pleased beaut knows we all care, hope to see her back posting soon as she is sooooo supportive of everyone else so it would be nice to return the favour!!

Missi really hope zach is OK also

Poppins27 · 10/05/2016 21:36

Oh and q.....Shock and Angry!!!! Massive respect for your DP though!

DomesticAnarchist · 10/05/2016 22:04

Overtired is the word of the day, here.

Glad to hear a routine is working for your, Poppins. I have got the Baby Whisperer book from the library today. Over tiredness is definitely A Thing here (and wind). I've been trying to get him to sleep since about midday, but it seems he's been taking tips from Calais and has only catnapped and screeched all afternoon/evening!

I think because he was full of wind because he flat refuses/is unable to burp overnight. (And I spend so much time trying when i could be sleeping).

He is at least calm now and attached to a boob, and I'm armed with the other bottle of infacol (I managed to drop the other one all down the side of the bed in my sleep last week). Need to be a able to put him down without freaking out to get myself ready for bed!

Babies are hard work, aren't they? And they trick you and fool you into thinking everything's ok, you're organised, you've got it covered, and then BOOM, inexplicable shrieking for 10 hours (with 10 minute naps to trick you into thinking it's all ok again - or fool your friends into thinking you're just inept, I mean look at that angelic sleeping baby!)

Poppins27 · 10/05/2016 22:18

Haha you are so right domestic!! This is Dc2 so thought we would be pretty prepared for DS but after smugly proclaiming for the first 3 weeks how 'chilled' and 'placid' he is.....what absolute tosh that was!!!

I'm always torn with what to do re winding in the night too. DS usually falls to sleep on the boob so hate to wake him winding but we have had a few post feed squirming sessions that keep us all awake until the fart releases itself?!

What's the book?! Will it have the secret recipe for success with babies...if so I'm there first thing tomorrow?!

vroc81 · 10/05/2016 22:31

Ha yes dom everytime I meet our NCT group she's asleep and starting to look like I'm making it up.. I'm using the fact she only sleeps in coffee shops to my advantage...

She's only slept for about 10 minutes at a time a few times since 10am this morning, and an hour briefly earlier... that's what happens if we don't go out!

Time hope you managed to get a break today, I've got no idea what you could do but you have my sympathies I'm terrible if she's not slept all day even after some sleep at night so can't imagine what it's like day after day.

Missi hope Zach is doing ok and you are back home again.

Congratulations marmite! Love your dress!

Purpleprickles · 11/05/2016 03:35

Time I hope you had a better day and night.

Paper thanks for letting us know that Beaut is ok. Looking forward to seeing her back here soon.

Dom would you consider giving gripe water a try? I really think it has made a big difference to E and her wind. Sorry to hear you have had a day of it too.

Quite a sad day yesterday, our neighbour died. He had been ill but we were only chatting to him at the weekend. He has three kids in their early 20s, they look utterly lost. It's hard to know what to do or say.

Anyway trying to sleep again now. The 7 hour stretch from last night was as predicted a fluke.
