purple my ds was the same, only ever napped on me or in the pram, it was annoying in a way as it meant I couldn't use the time to get stuff done (or lie down!) but like you I was glad to be able to be flexible.

Sorry you're having such a hard time time. I think it's difficult to make new friends instantly at groups, especially if other mums already know each other. Keep going, keep trying to make conversation (babies give you a great opener - "that's a cute dress, where did you get it?" "She's so alert, how old is she?" "I love all that hair, he's so cute!" Etc etc etc). Keep going, keep chatting, and you will eventually get to know people. Another option is to talk to whoever is running the group about it, they might find a way to get people talking. I know you said the health visitors were rubbish, are there any other groups, maybe run by a children's centre or church? I found those were run by people who really wanted to be there and generally very friendly. Or maybe you could do something like baby sensory where it's a closed group so easier to integrate.

We're off for jabs this afternoon, or maybe not. Having been told yesterday that it would be fine, the nurse called today and said she wasn't sure she could do all three in her arms and she was going to have to get advice. She can definitely have the oral one today but we might have to stagger the others. Sighs.

QforCucumber · 18/05/2016 13:57

Oh swear hope you get something sorted for her.

time another advocate of church groups, the one I go to is a tuessay 1-3, they charge £3 but you get a sarnie and as many cups of tea as you can drink. People are always taking toys, or nappies their baby has outgrown, clothes etc. The people who attend are all really nice and as above they actually choose to go and want to be there.

Hope Z drifted back off on the car journey for you missi

R has had his jabs, wasn't too bad - he was licking the applicator for the rota virus one haha. So far he's done nothing but feed and sleep, the odd whimper in his sleep too which is adorable but saddening.

Purpleprickles · 18/05/2016 14:06

Time stop telling the HV about the swing and save yourself the hassle. I know I sound like a terrible liar but I think why tell them stuff they will only moan about. I tell them I do skin to skin all the time because I'm sick of being asked and confessing I forget and then getting told I should. I would also never confess to using cooled boiled water for formula. And then if you say I do rocking on me, cuddling, laying in her pram etc maybe they can actually start to help you rather than putting it down to you doing something you shouldn't. FlowersMen are annoying too aren't they! And Calais is adorable.

Hi Rhu! Nice to see you again!

Well E is still not right but she has just had a little play time and I've had some smiles. Hoping she is over it now as I'm supposed to meet my friend to go out tonight. Selfish mum!

maybebabybee · 18/05/2016 15:16

time I would just nod and smile at HV "advice". You don't need to tell them anything - just do as I do and lie!!

Went to a baby group this afternoon. DS had an utter screaming meltdown for about fifteen minutes which totally stressed me out. Why do I always feel like it's only my baby who cries???

docmcstuffins1 · 18/05/2016 16:09

Maybe i know how you feel, i met the other mums and babies from our Hypnobirthing group for lunch and O was the only one crying for the majority of it!

We've just got back from the HV weigh in clinic and Ollie weed all over me, the changing mat, scales and floor 3 times! I don't think we'll be welcome back Blush

Time we go to a rhythm time group which is lovely, and there's nothing like a bit of singing and dancing to break the ice and get you all chatting.

Swearwolf · 18/05/2016 16:11

No jabs for us today, they still don't know what to do, she said she might talk to the hospital so perhaps they'll do them when she has her casts changed or they could leave a little window. She did have the oral one, she loved it too q!

I felt like that with ds maybe, it's horrible but if you stay calm the other mums will all be looking at you with admiration at how well you're coping, as I was later told Grin

DomesticAnarchist · 18/05/2016 16:22

Ah, Time, 'just keep swimming' as DS1 would say. I found DS1 similarly difficult. Don't forget she's only 8 weeks corrected, right? Do whatever you can to maintain sanity (in regards to naps etc).

Don't worry about swaddling. If you're worried about it (I think the SIDS link is to do with overheating) or if she's escaping try a swaddle pod which zips up - she won't escape and it's only one layer of fabric.

And remember that sometimes they just won't be calmed. When DS2 gets going when he's tired, nothing makes a jot of difference. Of course, I'll pick him up and cuddle him but whatever I try (bouncing, dummy, singing, walking, etc) nothing makes a difference, so often I just get comfy and cuddle him till it's over. And sometimes, if we're both tired, rather than risk him waking if I put him down, I'll just make sure we're well supported and 'rest my eyes' a bit! There's no harm in it, he'll only be tiny for a short time (well, he was tiny for a tiny amount of time!) and we'll both feel better after.

As for having a few hours in the chair - DS2 is currently still in his car seat fast asleep in the lounge while DS1 eats and I mn on the sofa. Again, a temporary bit of sanity.

Ooh, well done Missi! Did he fall asleep with no fuss? DS2 will fall asleep in his crib but after much picking up and putting down (due to the tired-crying as mentioned above!). Hope the physio appointment is/was all good

Sympathy for the screaming session, maybe. Mine did the same this morning. Why are groups held in such echoey halls?!

Lol, doc! Sorry! I bet they've seen it all before!

Ah, he's waking up. Good job, my boob is massive!

Swearwolf · 18/05/2016 16:54

That's a good point - time, I have a zip up swaddle that Sylvie never took to, it's really thin material, if you pm me your address I'll post it to you? It's just going to the charity shop otherwise.

DomesticAnarchist · 18/05/2016 21:19

I don't know how but DS2 has just fallen asleep in his crib without the scream fest!

Well, the whole process has taken about 2 hours, and I've had the hairdryer sounds on, and been replacing the dummy and stroking his nose/forehead. But no screaming!

I wonder how many seconds minutes I've got to scoff some food...?!

DomesticAnarchist · 18/05/2016 21:51

Oh, that didn't last long! Long enough for me to eat though!

QforCucumber · 18/05/2016 22:28

Glad you managed some form of peace dom even if it was short lived.

Ds has slept for 2 hours already, just woke fir a feed and I'm hoping so much that he still sleeps the night (not even all of it, just a couple of good chunks will do haha)
Poor little one has had all his calpol allowances that the nurse said he can have. Does anyone know if he's allowed more if he's still feverish and screamy in another 4 hours or is the 2 lots all they can have?

FirstTimeMummy25 · 18/05/2016 22:46

Q - our nurse told me to give DS 3 lots when he had his jabs...?
Hope his fever goes soon and that he gives you a good nights sleep:)

Purpleprickles · 18/05/2016 23:44

Q the GP told me two doses were mandatory and only give more after if needed. So if it's needed you will be fine. E had extra today. The HV at clinic said to see the GP if the temp carries on for 24 hrs which hers didn't.

QforCucumber · 19/05/2016 01:25

Thanks all, looks like stretches of 1.5/2 hours tonight (yawn) he is falling asleep on my chest after feeding but as soon as I lower him into the basket he screams. Don't want to fall asleep with him on me in bed in case of dropping him or something Sad fever seems to have diminished now at least.

Currently rocking on the nursing chair and he's just drifted off again. I feel like such a meany for getting those nasty bruises in his leg!

maybebabybee · 19/05/2016 03:16

Q our GP said 3 doses. I think they can have more after 24 hours.

Paperblank · 19/05/2016 06:13

Morning!

Q how's bubs this morning? Hope you had some sleep.

Doc Grin he's just making his territory! M has pooed, weed and vommed all over the GP couch. GP just laughs at her now.

Time have a look and see if your local library runs bounce and rhyme sessions -usually free and away from the bloody HV!

MrsElls (and Purple) definitely go to the GP. I've had voltarol gel on mine and a tubigrip since yesterday morning. It's not got rid of the pain particularly but it does feel more supported. I spoke to my sister last night who had it with her first DC (she's a physio) and she said push for the injection. It needs to be done by a physio so will need a referral. The plus side is the injection generally sorts it out.

Took M to the GP as she has taken to vomiting like something out of the exorcist after her feeds. She's got a cows milk protein intolerance and is on prescription milk (it's more expensive than wine!) GP said that they will prescribe it initially but long term we may have to pay for it - it's 3 times the price of cow and gate!

Paper 'marking his territory' made me chuckle. Glad it's not just Ollie, and we've not had any poo related incidents away from home yet.

We've got a 5 hour car journey today to go to a funeral, not looking forward to it. Hoping O will sleep all most of the way but he's been a right grump so far this morning so not looking promising.

Q hope DS settled and you eventually got some sleep.

MrsElls · 19/05/2016 09:22

Q hope you got some sleep.

Paper thanks for the info, will book a docs app and see what they say.

My friend posted this on facebook and I thought it probably sums quite a few of us up nicely! austin.citymomsblog.com/2016/04/20/stage-life-hard/

Me624 · 19/05/2016 09:32

Paper is it nutramigen? We have been prescribed it too as a trial as the doctor wondered if DS's eczema may have been caused by an allergy but thankfully that doesn't seem to be it so we are going back to Aptamil. Not only is it super expensive if you have to pay, it also stinks to high heaven Confused DS didn't like the taste at first and we had to get him used to it by mixing it with his normal formula and gradually reducing the normal stuff. Hope it sorts M out though!

dobbythedoggy · 19/05/2016 09:34

time if you do want to try a sling happy ti send my caboo close on a holiday so you can see if it is for you and C. I'm just not using it with Eddy; his another hot baby and can't stay in it for long unless we're in the wind by the river. With dd I spent a small fortune on things to help her sleep/move/walk and remember how expensive it is when your on maternity pay and was very lucky to develop a network of local mummy friends who pass things around. Will also recomend none health visitor related groups.

dom have you seen creely devon have a teachers weekend running in June 18th and 19th I think? Up to 5 people in free(?) with a pay slip or school badge.

Paperblank · 19/05/2016 09:54

Me she's on Aptamil Pepti 1. This stinks too but she's not chucking up like she was. We still get a mini vom but that's what we expect really.

We've got the rota virus farts here this morning so those alongside the stinky milk is making the house pong. I think I'll go out Smile

Swearwolf · 19/05/2016 10:47

Omg paper, we've got Rota virus guts too! Two leaky nappies this morning so far, tops of the leg casts are now bright yellow!!

Swearwolf · 19/05/2016 10:48

Had a bad night last night and my kettle has just died. Argh! I will be off to preschool via Costa and home via b&m bargains I think...

TheMshipIsBack · 19/05/2016 12:16

Laughing at the rota virus farts doing the rounds. With us it was the other end. We had a week of major post feed up chucking after T's first rota virus dose, thank goodness that's done. I've never run out of muslins before! Really hoping the next dose is easier on her wee guts. Poor thing dropped from 91st centile line to somewhere around 80th because of it. She's making up for it now though, feeding heavily and keeping most of it down. We didn't give any Calpol for either her menb or her other jabs and she was fine, just a little sleepier than usual the day after.

Had my post natal check today, all good. Getting the copper coil fitted late June, first appointment available as they need both the gp and the practice nurse for a double slot. Oh well, not like T's given us much opportunity so far anyway!

maybebabybee · 19/05/2016 12:54

Terrible evening last night, he screamed for a good 1.5 hours with only small gaps in between. Pretty sure it was wind but it just wouldn't come up. I felt really stressed which is daft all things considered as aside from his ten minute blip at the baby group earlier he has hardly fussed all day. Mercifully his bath and massage calmed him down and he went down to sleep at 9 for a marathon 6.5 hours, woke up at 3.30 for a feed, went straight back to sleep, woke at 5.30 for a feed and went straight back to sleep til 8. Best night yet I think.

He's now asleep again after a good morning with lots of playing and smiling. I started madly running round doing loads of housework and then suddenly thought sod this - I'm going to enjoy some time to myself. So currently sat on sofa watching tv with a cup of tea. He's been asleep nearly 2 hours so I expect he'll be up soon.

Laughing at your rotavirus tales - we had nothing like that here!
