Aw polka - that sounds monumentally shit! Any chance it could be teething? DD is always more disturbed when teething. Maybe try calpol and bonjela if it happens tonight?!

polkadotdelight · 29/04/2016 15:10

Thanks Team but I've already tried dosing with calpol, ibuprofen and nelsons teething powder (I'm not sticking my fingers in his mouth for bonjela lol!). I just don't know what else to do,l.

TeamEponine · 29/04/2016 17:03

I'm shit out of ideas then, sorry! My other thoughts were that he could be coming down with something or having a growth spurt, but if pain killers aren't helping, then I'm not too sure.

How have his naps been during the day?

FATE might have some better ideas. She's a bit of a sleep guru!

polkadotdelight · 29/04/2016 17:07

Shit out if ideas made me smile, thats one of my lines!

I think he had a growth spurt a fortnight ago, he ate anything that didn't move and there was a lovely improvement in sleep. The clincher was that he can now reach the button for the lift in tesco (my parents take him up to the cafe for lunch)!.

Daytime naps have been shorter for the last 3 days and he has been restless. I'm worried about him becoming over tired because of the loss of night time sleep and making it all worse.

Am dreading tonight, wish me luck.....

CumbrianExile · 29/04/2016 20:00

Good Luck Polka, hope he gets a good nights sleep so that you can Thanks

polkadotdelight · 29/04/2016 20:32

Thank you! Am pretty sure now that it is a big dose of teething, he is full of clear mucous when he sneezes and he does get a runny nose with teeth. He isn't eating as much this week and is a bit stroppy! At least Im hoping thats all it is.

Has anyone made the move out of the cot yet to a toddler/single bed? We are also starting to have screaming hab dabs on going in the cot, but he will fall asleep on our bed and I wonder if it's Mr Independent not wanting to be restricted?

KitKat1985 · 29/04/2016 20:49

Polka could your DS have an ear infection? DD has a couple and one of the first things we noticed is that her sleep went to shit, and it's a classic symptom in children apparently as lying down makes the pressure on the ear-drum worse and increases the pain. DD was very similar to as you described when she had ear infections.

Team well done for the dummy persistence.

DD cut open her gum today by smacking her own head into the floor after a slightly over-enthusiastic dancing game. She's fine though although it did bleed quite a bit for a few minutes.

polkadotdelight · 29/04/2016 21:40

Ah crap kitkat that had crossed my mind also but I thought that as he was playingin the day that I was over reacting. Typical that its a bank holiday weekend now so its not as simple to get him checked.

polkadotdelight · 29/04/2016 21:43

I did leave a message with the health visitor today about it but nobody got back to me.

Hope your dd is ok. DS got knocked flying in soft play at Christmas and cut his gum, I nearly lost my shit at my poor little boy crying and bleeding.

Nazly · 30/04/2016 00:05

Hi all, I got some time today to have a proper catch up. Again I had problems with the app.
Polka I hope you get a better night sleep tonight. If you are worried about ear infection then why not just walk into a walk-in clinic? But then doesn't infection come with fever normally ?
I had a few bad nights in a row a few times in the las few months - usually he sleeps through- and to this date I don't know why. Probably teething....

Kitkat ds doesn't say much either. Just repeats a couple of words and he certainly does not use those words in a language context. But then his dad started talking when he was 2 (and I started at 9m; but he is a much better speaker than me; he easily does public speach...) so I am also going to wait longer before I worry.

I loved the toy section of your past conversations ladies; so helpful...

Nazly · 30/04/2016 00:10

Team the tail storey was ace Grin so funny
Zana she is beautiful
Fate how is your puppy ? And hope the shoe shopping went well? I have been buying the same model shoes in different sizes and colours for ds in the past few months ! Shock

I just read through maybe two months worth of post so I am going to try not to comment about all those posts for your snaity ladies Wink but thanks for still posting all

MyGreenSofa · 30/04/2016 07:36

Hi Nazly!

Polka - hope DS feels better soon and sleep gets better!

Oh injuries! My DD is always the one to hurt herself, she's such a fearless nutter! It's horrid though!

TeamEponine · 30/04/2016 17:14

Nazly - good to hear from you!

Polka - how was last night? Hope you got a little more sleep.

polkadotdelight · 30/04/2016 21:05

Last night was better, he slept 8pm-5am with no wake ups but was in bed with me. Massive tantrums before bed, going in the cot also and he ended up falling asleep on our bed.

He has been grumpy as anything today, not eating much and had a major crying session this afternoon. We had him checked with the out of hours doctor and he doesn't have an ear infection or tonsillitis.

DH has had to go out tonight (not a drinking thing I must add) so Ive run the bedtime gauntlet alone, he is finally asleep in our bed. I'm struggling this week!

TeamEponine · 30/04/2016 22:43

Glad last night was better, and pleased that he's not poorly, although I guess at least that would have been an answer for you. Hope tonight is better again! X

Nazly · 01/05/2016 01:09

Polka I hope it gets better quickly... I completely understand what you are going through as have been through a couple of them, it will hopefully pass soon

Ladies, I know nothing about the schools in the UK and am quite confused just now, we are trying to move house and I am looking for a nursery close to the (potential) new house- but I can find no nurseries, the closest thing is an infant school - and the website says we admit children from age of 2.5 yrs Shock isn't infant school 4-7 yrs?

Can I ask mums who send their LO to nursery what the next stage is ? Do they stay in nursery until they are 4 or 5 - and do they then move to primary school or infant school ? And if so, are you going to send them to childminder after school time (3ish?)

And what year do your LOs start school? When they are 4 or 5?

Basically I could do with a "UK school system for dummies" guide to be honest !! ConfusedGrin

Nazly · 01/05/2016 01:10

Whose LO said bye bye poo? That was so funny Grin I keep remembering and smiling

TeamEponine · 01/05/2016 06:44

Polka - how was last night? Hope you all managed to get some more sleep!

Nazly - bye bye poo poo was my crazy child!

Schools start in the year (sept-sept) they turn from 4-5, so our September babies will be the oldest in the year. I guess they will start school September 2019? Although I seem to remember we have an August baby or two?

Some schools have a nursery or pre-school attached, so they can go earlier, but it isn't compulsory and you have to pay, if you send your child for more than the government funded free hours.

The "bad" side of this system is that they usually only do school hours and term time, so if you work ft across the whole year, it can be difficult. But the "good" thing is that they get a smoother transition into the school, if they end up going to that school.

In terms of applying, I think the way it works is that you apply nearly a year in advance, putting three local schools in order of preference. You then find out around this time of year which school they have been allocated to.

In terms of choosing a school, every school has an ofsted report, which you can read online. However some are very skeptical of them! I think most schools have open days to show parents around and answer questions. All schools have a sort or entrance criteria policy to help them allocate places fairly. This can be religion, distance you live from the school, siblings, children in foster care get priority, that kind of thing. It can be helpful to take a look at those of you can find them online. You can also sometimes find the stats on how over or under subscribed a school is, which can be helpful too.

Hope that all makes sense, is accurate and helps! Hopefully others (FATE?) will correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems to be the way things work around here!

TeamEponine · 01/05/2016 07:09

Oh, I meant to ask, what do your little ones wear to sleep in now? DD is close to outgrowing her 12-18 month baby grows and I'll need to get the next size up soon. I'm just debating whether to get her baby grows again, or go up to proper pj's.

For some reason, she seems a bit too grown up now for baby grows, and with the warmer weather hopefully coming soon, I though separates might be better and more flexible. DH wants us to keep with baby grows as he worries she will get a cold tummy or feet in proper pj's, even though she's in a sleeping bag still.

Any thoughts or advice?

This weekends cuteness is that, somehow, she's worked out "I did it" and has been saying it after every single thing she does! Although it is starting to get irritating!

Dummy cold turkey is going surprisingly well! Yesterday she only had it for her nap, only asked for it a few times, and only cried for it once. I can't believe this seems to be working. Thank you so much for all your help and support on this, it has made a huge difference and really given me the confidence to go for it! Flowers

MyGreenSofa · 01/05/2016 07:36

We are in PJ's here Team! Moved on to them when we bought 12-18 months though she had had the odd pair before. Baby grows with feet were causing a potential slip issue once on her feet and much harder to wrestle her into! Plus I think she looks adorable in a pair of PJ's! I think her feet are alright in the sleeping bag and still wearing a vest underneath too until the weather is better!

Binglesplodge · 01/05/2016 07:36

Eponine: I've been wondering the same about the bodysuits and sleep suits! Somehow the little ones just seem a bit grown up for them now. Where did the time go...?

We're also limiting dummy to sleep times and the car - he's been happy with that for several months barring illness but I'm definitely worried about when we'll have to take it away completely... What are your plans?

Polka: hope you've had a better night. We've had a few shockers this week because DS has been a bit teethy but he's also discovered nightmares... At least I think that's what it is. He'll wake screaming and shaking and totally refuse to go back to bed even after lots of cuddles and bf. So I sympathise completely. Can you share the parenting this weekend to catch up on some rest?

polkadotdelight · 01/05/2016 09:41

He has slept through 8-5 again, its usually 7-5 but he has been a nightmare at bedtime. He has been in bed with me and hasnt stirred so I think part of his wakings are dues to banging on the cot sides.

He has been in pyjamas for over 6 months here because he was kicking out so much I couldnt get the poppers done up and if the grows were too big his feet got caught.

I got confused about the school application thing and thought it had to be done asap so Ive already visited my school of choice - oops! Its a bit trickier too as we have the whole bilingual/english language thing going on.

polkadotdelight · 01/05/2016 09:42

Thanks Bingle, DH works shifts and is working today and tomorrow, I bloody hate shift work!

polkadotdelight · 01/05/2016 09:44

On the plus side his language seems to be improving all of a sudden (although beinh told 'I know' isn't so funny now!).

cookielove · 01/05/2016 14:25

Wow lots to catch up on, we landed yesterday (we were in canada) we had a night flight and E slept all of 40 minutes! So we are all a bit fuzzy lol

Re schools, dh and I were discussing it E is one of the August babies (6 weeks early) and we pretty much have decided to hold E back for a year! The reasons being that if he had been born when he was due we wouldn't even be thinking about it, being the oldest in the year will be better than the youngest, boys tend to be a little bit behind their peers so we would rather E had time to "catch up" and there are a couple others that I can't think of right now! But I'm tired lol!!

E sleeps in a mixture of pj's and sleep suits he is still mostly in 12-18 month stuff (the occasional 6-9 and 9-12 tops (h&m and next) come up big!

polka sorry you are having such a rough time of it! 5am is sooo early!!

team yay for dropping the dummy!
