DD has realised she can assert herself at mealtimes. She does sometimes eat a bit then refuse the rest. I figure it's self-regulating though. She gets the meal I prepare each meal time and if she doesn't eat it all then she'll just be hungrier at the next meal.

We have a little battle to keep her seated at mealtimes now she's not in a high chair. But she is in a winged-arm chair so the benefit is she can't climb out herself.

Shes can mimic my voice so well. She has loads of phrases and actions that I must do and she copies. "Stop it boys!", "ah hum" . She'll even give the odd "go to your room!". Honestly I am a much more positive parent than this would suggest!

Just thought I'd pop in briefly to let you know baby girl was born at 17.32 today weighing 5 lbs 14 oz. Caught me a bit off guard as i was only 37+1! We're both doing okay. xxx

Wow! Massive congrats Kitkat Flowers

polkadotdelight · 09/11/2016 13:05

Oh wow, hugest congratulations kitkat

What do you do when they flat out refuse a meal? Im sticking to the safe options but its limiting and not sustainable.

cookielove · 09/11/2016 13:56

Congratulations kitkat a wee baby!!

CumbrianExile · 09/11/2016 21:07

Congratulations KitKat Thanks

FATEdestiny · 09/11/2016 22:09

What do you do when they flat out refuse a meal?

Polka, If DD refused a meal even after me trying to get her to try some then id just think "fair enough, shes not hungry" and move on with the day. I would then assume that by the next meal she would be hungrier and so eat more.

DD has had a stomach bug recently. In fact we all have (vomiting and worse times 6!). She had a whole day where she ate nothing at all. But then, so did I (with the same tummy bug) so I wasn't too worried. She woke up the following day starving and are like a horse.

polkadotdelight · 09/11/2016 22:35

He says 'I no like it' and refuses to eat. Im trying not to make an issue of it but he gets 'hangry'!

TeamEponine · 10/11/2016 09:07

DD sometimes doesn't seem interested in food, and that's fine. I'll let her have some fruit in between meals, maybe a yogurt, but that is it until the next meal. Someone once said (possibly someone on here) to think about what they eat across the week. So missing or just having a small meal once or twice a week isn't an issue. I guess it also depends how they are built. DD was tiny when she was younger, so I worried more about her intake, but now she's pretty normal so I worry less if she has a couple of days not eating too much. I've also noticed that she goes through a few days of eating like her legs are hollow, has a growth spurt and then has a few days of not eating too much.

DDs behavioural issues are getting better. FATE, yes I do the constant commentary of what is happening next and when. She's usually quite good with that kind of thing. Nursery have been fantastic and gave us some really good advice. They said she's a rule follower, she knows the rules, and often tells the other children when they are breaking the rules! So, they suggested setting clear rules about what happens if she screams and kicks, those punishments apply for the entire day (so if she kicks off when out or heading out, the punishment can still be the same), and each day we have a fresh start. So she now knows that if she screams and kicks there is no TV (she's Nemo obsessed at the moment) for the rest of the day, if she continues to be naughty after that, it is no stories (she's a bookworm!). So, I now feel far more in control and I know how to deal with it. She has clearly learned the rules because last night in the bath she was telling her toys off and telling them no Nemo today!!!

cookielove · 10/11/2016 21:55

E isn't eating anything at savoury at the moment, it's a real worry he has gone from eating three good meals a day to pretty much refusal of anything I give him! He won't even entertain the idea of a sloppy meal, eats no finger food type meals and is really surviving on fruit, snacks and milk. And skipping a meal doesn't work either not that I don't feed him he just often refuses. This has been going on for almost 2 weeks Sad

He is letting me brush his teeth though so silver lining and all that Wink

TeamEponine · 11/11/2016 01:16

Argh. DD is up and screaming. Has been for an hour. She initially woke because she needed a wee, but then that became a great game. I'm wrecked. Sad

KitKat1985 · 11/11/2016 12:05

Thank you for the congrats ladies. We're home now and settling into life as a family of 4.

Oh dear Team sounds like your DD is giving you a hard time still. How is her sleep generally?

DD1 is generally fairly good with meals, although she has the odd fussy day. We're lucky that she is fairly good with fruit and veg still.

cookielove · 13/11/2016 07:45

Hello all!

Glad you are home and settled kitkat does the little lady have a name? Or did I miss that 😄

So ds is still not eating and it is such a worry he is also now refusing lots of the food he was having as replacements for meals so toast is a no no :( I am gonna book a Dr appointment for next week. My mum think it's usual 2 year old stubbornness but I just want to check there is nothing underlying.

Also thinking of getting E a scooter for Xmas, he has no interest in a balance bike! Which was the plan for his bday but thought it would be a waste of money!

CumbrianExile · 13/11/2016 08:02

That is a bit worrying Cookie. I would be inclined to visit the doctor too, if nothing else it will put your mind at rest, and they may have other ideas of things to try to get him to eat.

No idea what we are getting A for Christmas. I am off for a day Christmas shopping today, so hoping to get some ideas. I did look at balance bikes, but we have nowhere to store one. He has a scooter and a trike!

He is very into Paw Patrol at the moment, maybe one of the sets you can get (but again, space is at a premium! I need a bigger house Grin.

MyGreenSofa · 14/11/2016 16:17

Congrats on your new baby girl KitKat! I hope the birth was alright despite her surprise arrival!

DD refuses lots of meals, and it is most certainly because she can't be bothered to sit down and eat. She can't manage more than a few minutes in the highchair despite me doing everything I can to engage her. She will just hold out for snacks because she would rather get on with being her mayhem causing self, so we do end up eating lots of meals in front of the TV unfortunately! Bad mother alert! She definitely goes through cycles of eating a lot and then not so much too.

KitKat1985 · 15/11/2016 16:06

Hi all.

Cookie we named DD2 Charlotte. Smile Did you manage to get your DS a doctor's appointment? Is he eating anything and is he still gaining weight?

Also a bit stumped for Christmas gift ideas here. DD1 has most things really as hand-me-downs from her cousins. Although I think she would love a trampoline, I have no idea where we would put it if we got it.

MyGreenSofa DD2's birth wasn't too bad, in that it was quick with no complications (despite them thinking I may have an infection at one point, which thankfully I didn't). However just like with DD1 things progressed really quickly and the midwives didn't realise (again!) until too late how fast things were progressing, so we never made it to the delivery room and had to give birth in a 4-bedded antenatal ward. So not very private, and no lovely pool or gas and air or anything. I went from being 3cm when they checked me at 4pm to having a baby by 5.32pm! As I say though, I know loads of people would kill for a quick birth like that so I know I'm lucky in many ways.

TeamEponine · 16/11/2016 21:45

Kitkat, that's such a lovely name! How are things going with two? What does big sister make of the new arrival?

Cookie, how is DS's weight? If it is fine and stable then I'd not worry too much. If he's losing weight then maybe a doctors appointment would be good.

We've not heard anything about a two year check. Wonder if I should chase it up...

MyGreenSofa · 16/11/2016 22:05

I had to chase mine up Team, letter got lost in the post.

Zanashar · 17/11/2016 08:43

Congratulation kitkat!! Lovely name too.
At 37+1 too?? What a lovely surprise ( I'm currently 23 weeks)
DD has started with huge tantrums to the point where she has cried herself,to,sleep on the lounge floor.
She is also being not so great at bedtime, with myself or DH having to stay with her until she is actually asleep. And now with no daytime naps I'm starting to worry that she's not getting enough sleep for her age Sad
Last few months have been a struggle with sciatica and a toddler, and I'm starting to worry about March, especially if DDs sleeping doesn't improve.
How is everyone else? I've not had a chance to look through the last few months of posts but will try to soon.

cookielove · 18/11/2016 07:17

No Dr appointment for E and not much eating! We had a hearing test on Monday and she obviously checked his ears, she said they were clear and as he has no temp I can only assume he has no other infection. I will book something for next week when I have a free day. If I can get an appointment which is almost impossible these days Hmm

Charlotte is such a lovely name, beautiful!!

KitKat1985 · 18/11/2016 13:29

Team our HV's don't do a review until 27 months here so your area might be the same. Although here they no longer see toddlers for their 27 month review, they have just sent us a questionnaire to fill in. Hmm DD1 has actually been very good about Charlotte's arrival. She has been treating her a lot like a dolly and getting blankets and such forth for her, and she gave her a kiss today. Smile

Zanashar is it worth talking to your health visitor about your DD's sleep and get some advice? It would be an enormous help to you if she can have a better sleep pattern in place for when your baby arrives.

I hope you have some luck getting E a doctor's appointment Cookie. x

FATEdestiny · 18/11/2016 20:57

How are you doing second time around KitKat? I remember how stressed you gotvwhen DD1 was newborn. Lovely name choice btw.

How shocking you have birth on the antenatal ward! It must have really freaked out the others on the ward. I became a Cat 1 emergency section while on antenatal, I saw one of the ladies who was in the 4-bed ward in postnatal afterwards and we were chatting. It was her first child, she said how harrowing she found listening to what was happening to me.

We had our 2 year hv check at about a month after her birthday. But like others have said, it does depend on your area, many don't do them.

My DD is more interested in her scooter than her balance bike, whoever it was who mentioned these for Christmas. Ive no idea what to get her for Christmas.

Zana, I second sorting out DDs sleep before baby comes along. It was DC2s immenant birth that forced me ibto into action with DC1s terrible sleeping. Have you found out the gender of the baby or is it a suprise?

LillyBugg · 21/11/2016 19:34

Hi all, it's been a loooooong time since I've been on. I've been under a lot of stress at work and finding it hard to get on with life really. But I'm feeling the need for some anonymous friendship and you ladies were the first to come to my mind. I'm 14 weeks now, and have had a conversation with work about leaving much earlier than when I would normally go. But due to various circumstances it looks like they are willing to let me go end of Jan with my resignation and maternity pay as a lump sum. So all yet to be confirmed but it's looking likely I will be a stay at home mum before long. Feeling a bit nervous about the prospect, but also feeling like its the right decision for me and my family, and therefore a bit of a relief. I guess I'm just after a bit of a hand hold!

Congratulations Kitkat, can't believe you now have 'dd1' and 'dd2'!

Hope everyone else is okay, and those that are pregnant and progressing along nicely Smile.

MyGreenSofa · 21/11/2016 21:58

Lilly - glad to hear your pregnancy is going well! I'm 19 weeks now so we are not too far apart!

If the arrangement with your work goes to plan and you don't lose out financially it sounds like it would be a good thing!
