Hi everyone hope you are all well or should I say as well as we can be with our babies . I had a lovely night last night lauren had a bottle at 8 evenually fell to sleep at 9 and dident wake unill 3.30 for the next feed it was bliss !!!!!!! I have been trying so sort out childcare for when I start back to work I only do 2 days but my ds starts nursery in september my mil had my ds when we only had him but has refused to look after 2 which is fair enough as they are both young what makes it a real pain is I dont drive and alot of nurserys and childminders want you to collect the kids by 5.30 I dont finish work untill then however I went to my friends yesterday who dosent work having 2 young kids herself and she has offered to have them for me at half the cost which is really nice she used to be a nursery teacher as well so it makes me feel very secure

ellieandhattie · 13/02/2007 08:54

laughalot that sounds a good plan glad you have managed to sort it out.

I'm really lcky that bith my mum and mil who used to have dd1 1 day a week each have agreed to have both of them, it is easier for my mum as she drives and tends to take them out but mil says as long as she has double pushchair then she'll be fine and they will go on lots of walks (they live in a lovley village with beautiful woodland so lots of adventures to be had!) she had my sil 2 children from 6 months till they went to school so she has been there before and the fact that I dont go back till beginning o july is good as the weather will be nice and they'll be able to go in teh garden lots. Who else is going back to work?

Harry2007 · 13/02/2007 10:10

Hi everyone!

Haven't been on here for ages - 4 week old baby is an all-consuming entity! It's as if I'm in this bubble of feeding, winding and changing, with very little time to do anything else!

LOL at 2Happy "feed until milk comes out of his nose" !!!

I wrote the tank you cards last week for all the presents that people have bought for Rhydian Hedd. I've already written 70 cards and I need to order more! I've had some gorgeous cards from Truprint with his picture on them - very cute!

As for awful presents, we've had a few. Why do people want to buy dark denim outfits in a small baby size? Not my cup of tea at all. We've also had loads of knitted stuff, even though I specifically said that I didn't want anything knitted and the worst thing is, people have used a feather and fan pattern! As if I'm going to put that on a little boy!

Hope everyone who is ill is feeling slightly better anyway.

Lizzzombie · 13/02/2007 13:07

Bibs Bibs and more bibs. Totally useless. Now if someone has got me an anorak type thing which I could wear when feeding, and wipe down when he chucks it all up down my back during a wind, now, that would have been useful!
And velour, whats with all the velour? Can I have some natural fibres please? So pleased I am not the only one taking stuff back willy nilly! DP thought I was awful for doing it.
I have mastitis, am not happy. Feel really shit. DP's comment, was "oh, well, its quite common isnt it"...hmm, thats his Valentines Day BJ out the window then! (sorry tmi!) x

Galmum · 13/02/2007 15:05

Classic!!! DP is going to regret that comment big style! Still laughing . Look after yourself - mastitis sounds horrible.

Think my husband is being a bit clever - he went on a cleaning/super husband drive the day after, let's say, having his needs met!! It did n't go unnoticed and it is working in his favour!

PS I have got loads of bibs - again! - pointless with a bf baby IMO
PPS We have only been given one velour thing this time, which is actually quite nice but dh can't touch her when she wears it - he hates it!

JodieG1 · 13/02/2007 15:25

Harry I know what you mean, it feels the same to me as well, constantly feeding, winding and changing. My ds1 is ill at the moment as well and was sick twice in the night, had to change his sheets and wash him off in the bath poor thing.

Liz you have my complete sympathy as I've just gotten over mastitis and it's awful, don't think I've ever felt that ill before in my life. Have you got antibiotics? I felt better within a couple of days of starting mine thankfully.

We had a nightmare on sunday night, the pipe in the bathroom burst and started gushing water everywhere, had to call a plumber and cost us £140 whixh could have been worse. Water even came through the ceiling into the dining room and utility room! Thankfully fixed now.

vinorouge · 13/02/2007 15:29

Well vino is MUCH happier today after persevering with BF and getting through a weekend at the in laws. Had a bit of a downer on the in laws since xmas and just let it grow....DH sayng that we didn;t have to go to his parents again as I so obviously hated it there made me feel bad and a bit silly so have decided I have to be grown up and put up with them. They are nice enough just not on my wavelength. And I hate the teddies they bought for Ellen. And MIL seems to have a thing about Ellen having to wear colours other than pink. She's my daughter and I like pink so if thats everyday then thats how it is!!

Thanks all for the tip about lansinoh, I have been using it, slathering it on to be exact and need a new tube now! Tjink I will go and buy some shields so I can try them if things start going downhill again. Midwife has recommended I get BF stabilised before I start expressing and giving EBM, am dying to be able to do this so DH can take some of the feeding pressure off me although he has been fab in all respects since Ellen was born, in my darkest moments when I have wonder why on earth I wanted to be a mum he has seemed such a natural dad.

Shimmer - I use a Tomy freestyle carrier and get on well with it, it was bought for me (so a useful present!!!) and Ellen seems happy in it, she falls asleep in it whenever she's in it and only wakes up if she's too hot. I did worry a bit cos the mothercare cataogue says babies shouldn't sleep in them for a long time but as small babies sleep a lot I just decided to ignore that bit.

I have had loads of bibs too, and hats. I was wondering when people used bibs as I haven't used any of mine. All the hats are too big too. There are also 2 little dresses in next at the mo and I have had each one 3 times so just been and swopped them. Got to get as much value as possible out of these gifts!!!!!

The best present I have had was yesterday - an anorak from John Lewis. It's red with pink and blue flowers on and has a hood and pockets with zips. I can't wait to put her in it. If they did one in adult sizes we could match.

RGee · 13/02/2007 16:46

I'm with you all on the bibs. Why so many - and newborn size!!!!
Best pressie was a 'crate of chocolate' from work (however, it came with a bib but I'm prepared to overlook that).

Hope mastitis recovery is swift Lizz, and to all you who have had it. I understand it is not nice at all.

In one of our earlier antenatel threads, someone posted a link to a fun quiz to find out the sex of your baby. I did it and it came up with 70% likely to be a girl. Given I had a girl, is this mere coincidence, or is there truth in these old wives tales?

Suspect not much will be ahppening for Valentines night in our household this year. Dh sleeps in the spare room during the week, and my nips are too painful to risk any thing/one rubbing against them. Plus a tiny bit of weepy C section scar and overhang belly does not make me the most attractive person in the world right now!! Nice huh! Add to the romance of dh saying last week 'I don't have to get yo0u anything for Valentines Day this year do I?' - I made it very clear a card would be nice at the very least!

wilkie50 · 13/02/2007 17:24

Now I'm guessing I'm on my own here - I LOVE BIBS!!!! J is fairly pukey and they are a godsed for me - I have loads; in my bag, on the end of the moses basket, in the change bag! Anyone want to join my bib gang?

Jodie - did you go to the dr about bleeding?

Lizz - that you were even contemplating a Valentines BJ!!!!!!!! I ain't going near DH's trouser snake for the rest of my life! Hope your mastitis gets better soon

Vino - my DH too has been great. Been struggling a bit with my depression and he has been so supportive with J. God bless them

Anyway, must go. LO is very grizzly today and won't let me put him down!

xx

2Happy · 13/02/2007 18:04

Wilkie, seriously, if you want more bibs I really would be happy to send you some, I'd rther they were used than went to waste! Same goes to anyone else who uses them

Dragonhart · 13/02/2007 19:17

Wilki, I will join your bib gang! And Ruth is bf!

I love them and they save me loads of clothes changes. Any freebie bibs would be gratfully received here! Cant wash them quick enough as Ruth guzzles so much, she is sick all the time.

She also pukes out of her nose 2happy. Then makes the most pitiful cry. Fel very sorry for her, it must be awful when it comes out of your nose!

Worst present I got for DS was a painted china pair of booties in garish colours! Not sure what you would do with them and they are at the back of a cupboard as I didnt have the heart to throw them away.

ellieandhattie · 13/02/2007 19:39

must admit we use 3/4 bibs a day but thats mainly because I am bottle feeding and Hattie always brings some milk back up when she is winded. Have to say think I am missing something though because nobody has bought me any bibs with either dd1 or dd2 but I do have tons that I bought when I was expecting dd1 (but I think I bought tons of stuff fullstop when I was having dd1.

Lizz loved your comment but

Rgee we are not doing anything for valentines but we never really have haven't even got dh a card (think he was panicking as he just asked if I def didnt have a card for him so he obviously hasnt got me one) I don't mind as long as he remembers mothers day (shouldn't be to hard as its Hatties baptism that day).

Am trying to remember when my periods returned after having dd1 as I bottle fed her, can't remember and dh not comingnearme till I can sort out what we are going to do to prevent any more babies, he has partially agreed to the snip but not yet so I'll probably go back on the pill but I really didn't want to do that but think I'll discuss with the Dr at my 6 week check up next week

ellieandhattie · 13/02/2007 19:47

Just thinking about presents have taken loads of clothes back that have been bought for dd2 as had tons of newborn stuff hardly worn from dd1 and got credit notes/gift vouchers so I can get her things when se needs them.

Worst presents for dd1 a really chavvy frilly tracksuit never ever put it near her and also someone bought/named a star after her, all very nice but very unlikely she'll ever see it so it did seem a waste of money (got a map of where it is/certificate but

dd2 hasn't really had any bad presents apart from taking babck the clothes most other people we knew had lots of stuff and either gave us cheques for her savings account, clothes for the summer (dd1 won't fit wrong season) or gift vouhers and my mum and dad are going to get me the mclaren stroller for her in the summer as Ellie won't need the double buggy by then and don't want to have to lug the huuuuge travel system pushchair around (another I MUST HAVE THING from when I was expecting dd1)

annieapple7 · 13/02/2007 19:57

Hi girls finally made it onto MN - I had forgotten how all consuming a new born (and 2 other LOs) is!

Glad to know I am not alone in struggling with bfing...the lasinoh cream is brill, and although my nips were agony they never cracked. They are OK now although I am still rubbish at latching on...baby's mouth never seems to get wide enough.

She has a cold too so is finding it difficult to feed, and big green boogies keep getting sneezed out - ugh!

(Keep this to yourselves) I did give her a bottle last night at 10pm 3oz because she has been really hard to settle and it made her sleep much longer. But today she was fussing on the breast and now I think I have put her off bfing! I don't know what to do tonight now.
I do worry I am not making enough milk.

Bfing doesn't seem to be making me lose weight either

Galmum · 14/02/2007 09:03

Welcome back Annieapple - I imagine life is fairly hetic with 3 LOs !!

I also have a bf issue - bit similar? Does anyone know anything about milk quality in the eve?? Despite having leaky boobs (calming down by the way!)that can spray milk everywhere - I have a feeling that my milk quality or quantity is n't great in the eve. The last 5 evenings dd goes on a feeding frenzy for 2/3 hours and I don't seem to be able to satisfy her - last night she emptied both sides and wanted more - there was no more and dh had to walk her round screaming whilst I tried to rest. Then it was back on both sides and more screaming and then back on again. I would say it's a growth spurt but it's only at the end of the day.

I can't complain as she then slept from 11pm to 5.30am !! (Ducks as other Mums throw heavy objects)

It was the same with my son, except it started to happen when he was much older - 12 weeks plus and I used to give him a bottle of expressed milk after the feed in the early eve. DD has refused the bottle of expressed milk dh has tried to give her. I SOoooo want her to take the bottle so that I can have a break at some point in the future!!!!

Any recommendations on getting nearly 5 week old bf baby to take the bottle - we've got Avent bottles & teats?

Galmum · 14/02/2007 09:10

Ellieandhattie - I think the star is a lovely idea albeit not that pratical!! Very sweet!

Now thinking maybe I'm missing something on the bibs - I tend to use a muslin when burping, but if I can get dd to take a bottle then maybe they'll come in useful?

Loubie37 · 14/02/2007 10:43

We go through tons of bibs - about a dozen a day I would say (2 per feed!) And loads of muslins too, my washer and tumble dryer have never been so busy, I'm dreading the next electric bill!

Having said that Ben is bottle fed and a very sicky baby, he brings back lots of every feed which is such a pain because it means we can't feed him in the night and put him straight back to bed - we have to keep him upright for at least 20-30 mins otherwise he's promptly sick all over as soon as you lay him down again

We've tried SMA Staydown and C&G Comfort milk but both upset his tummy and made him so grizzly it's easier to cope with the sickness. We took him to see the GP but because he's thriving he wasn't really interested - just gave us a few tips to ease the sickness (all common sense really, nothing we didn't already know)

Sorry I've not posted for a while, I do read the thread most days but never get much chance to actually write anything...most of my day is spent holding Ben and mopping up sick!

laughalot · 14/02/2007 10:49

Hello everyone hope you are all ok, well I had a nice valentines pressie a appointment this weekend at the hairdressers for a colour and cut all pre paid for I think im looking forward to the peace and quiet rather than my hair being done usually I get flowers but my dh said he was sick of me moaning on about my hair so he decided to do that instead personally I think I should get the flowers and the haircut its not like iv given birth or anything .

I love bibs too but again im bottle feeding and lauren can be a bit sicky, as for presents I got a horrid cheap tracksuit with love written across it yuck.

Elliehattie im back on the pill already my dr gave it to me when I went for bp check my dh is going to have the snip or so he reckons I see pigs flying past my window the wimp !!!!!!

To all those poorly from bf hope it gets better soon, just think at least you dont have to get out off bed to warm a bottle.

2Happy · 14/02/2007 12:03

I've just counted - we have twenty bibs - please, if anyone wants any of them (some are blue...) please email me becky at iain and beckys dot plus dot com (no spaces), and I will happily send.
I've uploaded a pic of a present ds2 got today - I challenge you to beat it for hideousness! Click on my profile to see it...
Loubie - sympathies. ds1 was an incredibly sicky baby, projectile at times. I found it really upsetting, struggling to feed him with sore nips, then he'd throw the whole lot up. ds2 did couple of enormous yaks last night, so I won't be surprised if he goes the same way

Harry2007 · 14/02/2007 13:08

That is quite hideous 2Happy! Can't say that I've had anything to rival that!

So glad to here that other mums are going through bibs as if they're going out of fahion. I use about 12 a day! Admittedly, Rhydian is bottle fed and I do have to use 2 bibs at a time to stop his clothes getting soaked. I must have about 50 bibs - no joke! And someone bought us some more yesterday!

My house looks like a Chinese Laundry!

Loubie37 · 14/02/2007 13:48

Harry thank goodness I'm not alone, I was beginning to think it was just Ben that needed so many bibs!! We've got loads (good job!)as I find I need to put one on him before we start feeds (to catch the drips) and invariably afterwards that one needs changing for another as it gets drenched in sick. Poor baby has come out in loads of spots on his little face...I'm sure it's because of the constant wiping sick off him I've tried washing his face with cooled boiled water but he still has more spots than my 15 year old DD!!

As for bad pressies, we've been lucky really...apart from one coat that we got that would be fine now (it's very padded and quilted, lovely when it's -2 outside) but because it's size 6-9 months it won't fit Ben until the middle of summer!! Honestly, don't people think about these things??!!

I keep meaning to go back and change it but I think it was in the sales (probably why we got bought it!) so it's unlikely we'll be able to get the same thing but in a different size....

Loubie37 · 14/02/2007 13:50

PS 2Happy, PMSL at that gift!!!!

Thanks for the offer of bibs by the way - I would have taken you up on the offer if I didn't have about 30 already ;)

Lizzzombie · 14/02/2007 14:17

OMG - I am in so much pain. Have got anti biotics from drs for this fking mastitis. Its awful. I wouldnt wish it on anyone. All I want to do is sleep, and BF is the last thing I want to do. You are encouraged to feed from the infected boob, and I have been, whilst screaming and crying in agony at the same time. I swear, I thought that the giving birth bit was supposed to be the worst bit. I want my body back so much.
re. babies not feeding well in the evening, apparently this is fairly normal I have read that if you express during the day, you get a higher quality of milk so they settle better. (I still havent dared express, I am too scared) - but I cant see it hurting anymore than this F
KING MASTITIS. (sorry, am shouting) On average it takes well over an hour to feed my LO in the evening. Cant wait till he can eat proper food! x

JodieG1 · 14/02/2007 14:33

Wilkie - I didn't bother going to the drs as the bleeding stopped again and didn't find time to get there but if it starts up again then I'll def go. I'm just finishing antibiotics for the mastitis as it is.

Liz - so sorry Mine really hurt when I fed too but it did get better quickly, hopefully tomorrow you'll start to feel a lot better and the feeding will be easier.

wilkie50 · 14/02/2007 15:46

2Happy - ROFL think maybe our hideous gifts were bought from the same place?? HAve uploaded pic of 'Bear outfit' - honestly!!!! Thanks for bibs offer but I have loads already and, like the other ladies, am using at least 6/7 per day.

Lizz - so sorry to hear about mastitis. Haven't any words of wisdom I'm afraid so just sending a big hug your way (obviosuly not too big or else it will squash your poorly boob )

Please don't throw things at me - has anyone else (other than laughalot) considered contraception? I can't take any hormone based contraception which rules out pill, implant, mini-pill etc. We were using withdrawel method (I know!! ) before we started trying for J (I have to say - it worked fine for us for a year) but REALLY don't want to risk any mishap's. Anyone had any experience of coil - positive/negative?!?

BTW [smug emotion] I had a huge vase of flowers and a big balloon delivered today from DH - first and only time it has EVER happened but how smiley am I today?!?!????!!!!!
