blimey jodie your dh isn't wasting an time getting the snip -how many children do you have? my dh says he will go for it too. i do wonder about the finality of that decision but now i have 3 i think that is enough...i think..hope the mastitis clears up it sounds awful

hi to poppynic and your little lauren rose...remember the abattoir thread - assuming your dh never did arrange a visit? how are you getting on with 3? i still haven't done th school run....tomorrow ..never comes and my mum takes my eldest but i can't put it off forever..respect to LTH with 4!

thinking of you all tonight awake in the wee small hours..good to know that i am not alone!

JodieG1 · 07/02/2007 09:39

Thanks annie and poppy. The drs is only a mile up the road so he said he'll be ok to drive himself. We have 3 children now also and don't want anymore, we agreed he would get the snip after Ethan, he's more keen than I am!

RGee · 07/02/2007 10:02

Mastitis and chicken pox....what nightmares! Get well soon vibes to all.

Oh dear, I hear crying. So much for a relaxing 15 minutes.

ellieandhattie · 07/02/2007 11:49

morning, hope everyone had a good night!

We are having a real lazy day toay as far to cold to go out to park etc walked to tescos and dd1 loves being outside but even she said go home now my nose cold. So made some chocolate cornflake cakes with her who is now playing with her kitchen making me 'lunch' and got puzzles, pencils, glue and glitter ready for this afternoon as going to get her to hep me make a reward chart to try and persuade her to stay in her bed at nigt and also get rid of her dummy

dd2 fast asleep in the travel cot (so dd1 cant get hold of her) but she has been as good as gold as normal! tried her in her bouncy chair this morning and she loved it had to roll a blanket and out round her head as dd1 kept walking past and giving her a little bounce. At least I know she like the chair and gives her a different view.

My mum and dad have been desperate to have them both for the night so I have given in and said they can have them a week on saturday they are picking them up at 1 on the saturday and taking them out for the afrnoon keeping them for the night and I'll collect them sunday but as dh working that sunday I'll wangle an invite for sunday lunch and stay at theirs till he is home. Going to take the chance to finsih painting the playroom as still havent done the last wall

2Happy · 07/02/2007 12:44

Morning, sorry to hear about the mastitis, and hope the snip goes well. COngrats on the tribunal.
Woke up to lots of snow here this morning
Can I ask the advice of people who have had c/s please? Pretty much the hardest thing I'm finding about having had ds2 is the incision. Partly from habit, and partly from stubbornness () I keep doing things and then finding I'm really sore. I feel really frustrated that I can't even manage a potter tidying up the kitchen without ending up in pain. But my biggest worry is that dh is about to start a new job, and he'd told them he'd start after the baby was born. Of course, that means they were expecting him to start at the beginning of Feb, but as ds2 was so late, he wants another week after this one. But what do I do when he goes back to work? How long before you can lift a toddler? I can't get him in his high chair, onto my lap to read stories, into his cot, and even if I could drive I couldn't get him into the car seat... I feel so awful, I want to play with him, and he loves physical games, and I can't do any of it. I just wondered if any of you could give me a rough idea of when I might be getting back to normal? Thanks

ellieandhattie · 07/02/2007 13:11

2happy i went back to driving around 2 weeks after both of my sections, dd hald climbs into her car seat but I felt ok putting her in. Think the first 7-10 days I felt sore if I had doen to much, but dh went back to work after 2 weeks and I coped, dd1 has her meals on a small table and chairs so no lifting into highchair (she refused to go in at 18 months so opted for booster seat on dining room chair or using her small table/chair) bathtime she uses her stool and climbs in herself and generally I was doing all the usual things like housework, washing ironing after 2 weeks (well never stopped doing them but used to get dh to carry the washing downstairs for the 1st week)

I did get a very tiny infection in the far left hand side of my scar and the stitches had come apat slightly but noone could tell e if this was because I was doing to much but one MW did say 99% of the time its the end they finish stitching and stitches often loosen that ed just had 7 days antibiotics (precaution rather than cure)and now at 4 and bit weeks scar has healed fantastically now just a small thin red line, about 4 months after having first section scar was hardly visible.

wilkie50 · 07/02/2007 17:18

Hi All

Sorry to hear about chickenpox and mastitis - get well vibes to you! 2Happy, hope your C/S scar starts to feel better.

Have had (another) shit 48 hours with DH and I coming down with severe D&V virus. MIL and SIL came over last night to watch Jacob overnight as we were both so poorly - slept for 14 hours solidly. Still feel rough. I cannot believe what a shit four weeks we have had since J was born inbetween him being in hospital, my possible womb infection and now this f*cking virus. [Wilkie feeling very very sorry for herself.] Sorry - feel like I am always moaning on this thread.

On the plus side, Jacob is doing very well. HV was surprised how alert he is and said that she thinks it will only be a couple of weeks until he smiles He seems to be getting more cute by the day - I'm biased but now that he has lost his newborn puffiness in his face he looks so adorable.

xxx

RGee · 07/02/2007 18:47

Wilkie - you poor love. Hope things get better for you soon.

2Happy - I have been really frustrated by my slow recovery from my c-section. DH went back to work after 3 and a half weeks, and by then I could bend (at the knees of course), but was still walking carefully especially hard was getting the pushchair up kerbs. A distinct improvement from 4 weeks, and now (5 weeks+) am getting a neat scar. Still slight weepiness (from the scar as well as me!!) on the far right, but the HV was not concerned. Luckily my sil is a nurse and brought me some big gauze plasters to protect it, and I haven't dared inspect it for about 4 days. Now I can properly bend and stretch, and feel confident lifting. Have stuck to the no driving rule until 6 weeks, but I live in surburbia so most things are in walking distance.

ellieandhattie · 07/02/2007 18:58

wilkie sorry to hear you havent been well hope you feel better soon, does seem as if you have had some really tough weeks.

Meant to be going to drs to see hv tomorrow but going to wait and see whta weather is like as I do not drive in the snow (crashed my car in the snow when I was 17 so just avoid it now) and there is no way I am walking with the 2 of them as Ellie would never make it there she would just want to play in the snow!

theUrbanDryad · 08/02/2007 07:37

wilkiie you do seem to get the rough end of the draw - hope you feel better soon.

amyclaire - i found this on google - not to panic you but a lot of the sites say chicken pox in newborns can be life threatening, so i would definitely get in touch with your HV or surgery.

the HV came to see us yesterday, and Zac now weighs 9lbs13.5oz!! what a little lump! but he has eczema on his face and in his ears which makes him a bit grumpy, she's prescribed some ointment which i'm slathering on his face and it seems to help. she's also a bit concerned about his eyesight as he's not following movement as he should. i'm not too worried though, as myopia runs in my family, and i think he'll probably need specs whatever.

Thanks for the cs advice, EaH and RGee. I make a lousy patient , I suppose I just have to try and take it slowly. ds1 is such a big boy, I think it'll be a while before I can lift him freely. Stitches out today [scared emoticon], if the mw gets through the snow!
Wilkie, you really are having a crappy time, sending get well vibes your way. I hope you have lots of people around who can help you out with Jacob and give you a bit of a break.
EaH, I've put ds2 on your list, and have also added carrotcake, who was on the antenatal thread a while back, but posted her birth announcement on Tuesday and was going to pop in on the postnatal thread

vinorouge · 08/02/2007 14:18

I haven't posted since Ellen was born. Have been struggling with BF, cracked nipple agony and lots of tears over anything and everything. Feel better for catching up on all these messages and seeing everyone is having ups and downs with one thing or another. Everyone tells me to bottle feed if I'm struggling or to use nipple shields but midwife scared me off shields and I just don't want to bottle feed yet. When BF works I love seeing her feed....it's just that I feel so cross with her when it hurts that I then feel guilty guilty guilty. On a more positive note I have managed a trip to a baby cafe this week which was helpful and was via bus and train no less - was so proud of myself for doing it even though it meant I felt sick all the night before at the prospect.

theUrbanDryad · 08/02/2007 14:22

heya everyone! so whose DP has stayed off work because of the snow? mine looked out of the window and said "fuck that!!" then proceeded to make a massive breakfast and play with DS. we made a snowman!! pics are on my profile...

OP posts:
JodieG1 · 08/02/2007 15:11

Lol UD, mine was off but because of the vasectomy. The kids played in the garden for a bit and then came in for some hot chocolate.

I'm feelng 100 times better today now the antibiotics has started to work and it's not as painful to feed either

It's our 5th wedding anniversary today We're just having a meal together here though as neither of us are well enouh to do anything really. Dh told me that someone at his work looked up what 5th anniversary gifts are traditionally and it's wood; they then said that he won't be able to give me that after his op. Lol. Made me laugh when he told me. We have actually managed to have sex once so far at 3 weeks after and it wasn't painful at all, looks like it'll be a little while until we can again now, depends on how fast dh heals.

Vino have you tried the lansinoh nipple cream? I've used it and I think it's really good, worth a try even though it's a bit pricey. Well done for getting to the baby cafe, I don't think I'd manage a train and bus ride.

ellieandhattie · 08/02/2007 15:35

vino well done on your trip, makes such a difference when you get out

ud love your pics my dad turned up at 10 and took dd to park and i walked to clinic hattie now 8lb 7 oz doing well for 5 weeks, they then came home ad built a snowbear in the garden will put pics on profile later.

My dad has made dd1 day and we popped to halfords to have a look at car seats as dd1 needs a new one soon and he bought her an electric ride on scooter , goes the grand speed of 1.5mph and was reduced from 99.99 to 39.99. PMSL (well very very close to it) as she was so busy looking at me she wasnt look where she was steering, crashes into the fence and said "bollocks" can't think where shes heard that I had to try and not laugh and said well I don't think thats a proper word try oh dear next time

saltcod · 08/02/2007 21:27

Vinorouge, I used nipple shields for a week when DS was 3 or 4 days old & they worked a treat & didn't cause any problems. He also drinks EBM out of a bottle quite happily. I was in danger of giving up BF coz of cracked/bleeding nips & using the shields & expressing enabled me to get through the pain!

Had Luca's 6 week check up on Monday ..... he's gone from a petite 6lb 12 oz at birth to a massive 10lb 3oz . Quite a chunk now! Mind you, he does feed for hours on end during the day, sometimes with only a 5 or 10 minute break between feeds! Have also booked his baptism for mid May

2Happy · 08/02/2007 21:41

Vinorouge: use nipple shields! If you want to continue bfing, and if you feel there's no other option, use them. I used them with ds1 for, erm, about a year . I have flat nipples, and had crap post natal bfing advice and ended up with cracked nipples etc. Shields were the only thing that kept me bfing, but couldn't wean myself off them as they gave me such confidence. Using them on and off with ds2 now, as with the engorgement the poor child is literally bouncing off my norks! The mw don't like them because they say they reduce hindmilk flow, so can cause weight gain probs. If you have any concerns in that department for your lo, fair enough, but ds1 was and has remained a huge child and shields didn't make the slightest difference to his growth. As with all advice from everyone after birth, do what's right for you, and don't worry if it's not what the mw says (up to a point... ).
Oh crap, am leaking, shit... would write more but turning into milk fountain!

2Happy · 08/02/2007 21:49

left handedb typing now.. and yes, am using shield! If you do decide to use them, would recommend the avent ones, very thin and flexible. Echo lasinoh advice, also recommend hydrogel pads fromn chemists. hth

wilkie50 · 08/02/2007 21:55

Oh Vinorouge - sorry to hear you feel crap. Read my posts if you want to cheer yourself up, you're not alone. Big hugs ( )

EAH - PMSL laughing at 'bollocks'!!! Scary how much they listen!

Jodie - sex at 3 weeks you go girl!!! DH ain't coming near me for a year

Dr called today to confirm womb infection and advised me that the antibiotics she is prescribing me (different ones this time - stronger) will make me feel sick. Hmmmm, not what I want to hear after three days of D&V virus. FFS!!

Ho hum....fat boy is taking 5oz bottles now - he's 4 weeks old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Night night all...

Shimmer · 08/02/2007 22:50

Hi all. Vinorouge - very impressed by the bus/train thing! I've been mainly restricting myself to things within walking distance since the LO was born...and a couple of taxi trips. How are any of the rest of you without cars managing with public transport?? I've just been looking at reviews of slings/carriers,thnking it might be easier carrying him around in one of these, rather than having to have him in my (rather large!) pram all the time! I've tried him in a friends carrier (similar to Baby Bjorn) but he didn't seem that comfy, so quite like the idea of a sling... Any of you had experience of these?

Galmum · 09/02/2007 08:21

Hello all - I'm back !! Things are going pretty well, although I'm very ready for this eve when dh comes home and it's the weekend. Sympathy to those with sore nipples - agony - breastfeeding was so much easier this time round. I did start to get problems on one side but once it started I moved to the rugby ball/underarm position which sorted me out last time as well.

Tried to read all the posts but it blew my mind!

Shimmer
I started using the huggababy sling yesterday - think it could be quite good. Borrowing one off a friend. It's very easy to put on - not much fiddling. I was always so impressed when she used to throw it over her shoulder and put her baby in to settle him without any fuss. My husband gets on with baby bjorn but I don't - too technical, not great when you want to use it for only 10 mins and it squashes my boobs! Think this huggababy sling it's too small though (they come in a few sizes), as I'm 5ft 9" and have enormous norks at the moment and it sits a bit high. I'm still a bit freaked out that it might break so I could n't stop putting my hand underneath just in case it collasped - I'm sure once I've used it a bit I'll have a little faith. Going to use it over the weekend and buy one if I'm still impressed.

ellieandhattie · 09/02/2007 09:15

saltcod i was going to post today about whether anyone was having their lo baptised, hattie's is booked for 25th march (which is also mothers day ) we had ellie baptised at 12 weeks and hattie will be 11 weeks. The church is the same one where we got married and the vicar is soooo lovely but he's reiring this year hence getting Hattie's baptism done so quickly as he only does 6 baptism services a year and a maximum of 3 children at each one so hattie was provisionally booked in last october last time we had the party myparents but in laws have offered this time so no work for me he he.

How is everyone today anyone doing anything exciting at the weekend?

Dragonhart · 09/02/2007 12:30

Not been on for ages as had inlaws here to help. Which was good to have the help but have to say I am quite glad that they have gone onw and we are on our own!

Ruth is doing well, seems to be putting on weight but havent had her weighed for a while as couldnt get to the clinic. Going next wed with my mum.

2happy- I have found the hardest thing about having Ruth by cs has been how it has affected my relationship with DS1. Sooo hard not to do all the things you usually do for them and watch someone else do it all. Doesnt worry me when DH does it as he normally helps anyway but wathing inlaws do it and feel totally out of control has been very hard. It has been 5 weeks since I had Ruth and I am feeling pretty normal except for my tummy feeling a bit sore to touch. This has been my first week of doing everything (from about 4 1/2 weeks) and I am managing ok. I have just changed afew thing so I am not lifting DS so much, like change him on the floor and make him walk so I am only having to lift him in and out of his cot in the day and onto his highchair. Have been teaching him to pull himself onto sofa for a cuddle. The first 2 weeks were the worst and then just when I thought it wouldnt get any better, started to feel normal again. Decided cs are awful when you have a toddler!! Hope it is feeling better now.

SOrry aobut all the sore boobs! Hope everyone else is ok. xxx
