Missing you all on the January thread, it's quiet without you!
Hope all the babies (and mothers!!) doing ok
xx

OonaghBhuna · 15/01/2007 14:43

Utter exhaustion is really kicking in now Luckily DH is off for another wek but goes back to work next Monday. DD1 has been great although she has developed sleep problems in the evening she crys every time we leave the room this is something she did as a baby so I guess this is a bit of regression due to DD2 appearing.
I am continueing with the BF as i would feel to guilty to stop as I gave DD1 six months of breast milk I want to give Lucy the same start in life. However the odd bottle of formula will be given when required
Hope everyone is ok.

Lizzzombie · 15/01/2007 16:16

FYI - Holland & Barratt have a special on lavender oil and tea tree oil. From what I have been reading these 2 come in very useful to sooth any swollen bits after giving birth! Hmm, maybe I can wait after all! Hope all is well x (40+8 )

wilkie50 · 15/01/2007 16:49

Hi girls - thought I would come to join you now. If you didn't know, I had Jacob Allan 9 days early on 12th January.

Had a 26 hour labour which ended up with an epidural (bliss) but I have torn and have 3 stitchs which isn't too bad but I honestly feel like I have been riding a horse for a month - I can barely sit down and don't even talk about trying for a poo!! Utterly terrifying.

Hope you are all doing well, I have been off line for a bit and haven't read all the messages on this thread properly yet so will try and do so over the next few days.

xx

Shimmer · 16/01/2007 15:47

Hi all! Glad to have found you all again! Well, some of you anyway. Obviously like everyone else I'm completely knackered at the moment, but have to say DP and my mum have been wonderful. I am really suffering with the breast feeding though. I've had incredably sore breasts and nips from day 1 and they're just getting worse (despite the copious amounts of lansinoh!) and Freddie has REAL trouble sucking. Often have to sit with him for an hour before he'll latch on, even when i know he's really hungry. I've had 2 visits from m/w now who say I am doing everything right, so it's not bad technique making me sore, and to just persevere. However I'm not convinced I'm making enough milk- i've never really had that feeling of my boobs being really full and ready for milking as you so elegantly put it Urban! Have given the LO formula for the last 2 feeds as was in too much pain this morning and am seriously considering giving up the b/feeding altogether. I do feel incredably guilty though as he's only 8 days old and it seems so soon to just give up On the other hand, when neither of us seem to be getting on with it at all, there seem to be a lot of benefits to switching to bottles. Did any of you choose to bottle feed??

wilkie50 · 16/01/2007 17:41

Hi Shimmer

Congrats! I have chosen to bottle feed. Did four breastfeeds in hospital but TBH, found it painful and not a particularly pleasant eperience (mother earth I am not). I have to say I love bottle feeding because it means my DH can get involved, I make the feeds up in advance and just generally find it easier. However this is only my opinion.

One of the MWs at the hosp secretly admitted to me that she thought bottle feeding was much easier and once the baby has had the benefit of colostrum (which obviously yours has had) the formula feeds are so good nowadays that there is not much in it!

Indith · 16/01/2007 17:54

Hello there! Thought I would pop in and say hello, I was due in December but William arrived Jan 11th (14 days late exactly bless him) so I may come here a bit! Hope all the babies are well, can't believe he didn't even exist this time last week!

RGee · 16/01/2007 19:23

Wilkie - welcome to this thread and congrats! Great name, and great birthday (shares mine, although for some reason, my birthday totally had a back seat this year - wonder why...!)

Shimmer - congrats to you and with the bf. I am finding bf much harder than I envisaged. Pippa has the hardest suck in the world which is good for her, but has been bad for my left nip. I'm sure bf is more painful than labour. And my right boob doesn't seem to get as much milk so she feeds better from painful nip. Ow ow ow!

Welcome and congrats Indith.

Oonagh - positive energy vibes being sent your way. As me and dh say, we can't imagine how hard it must be if you already have a lo. How do you do it?

vinorouge · 16/01/2007 22:19

Hello ladies ! I joined the due in Jan thread late and basically moaned about being overdue but finally became a mum to Ellen on Saturday morning.

Rgee - your ow ow ow comment has brought my labour flooding back to me cos thats all I seemed to say rather than scream. I remember the MW saying to me at one point they weren't used to labouring mums being so polite!

Persevering with BF for the moment. We'll see how it goes.

wilkie50 · 17/01/2007 09:38

Hey Vinorouge - congratulations on the birth of baby Ellen! Remember only a couple of weeks back when we were whinging about not being able to eat certain starters and no alcohol - isn't it bliss not to have to think about that anymore. I have had a Southern Comfort every night since I got home and a big prawn sandwich

OonaghBhuna · 17/01/2007 09:53

I think BF is really hard in the first few weeks but when you get over that hurdle it is easy. However this time around I was in so much pain in my left boob that I needed to bite down on something when she latched on that i thought why am I doing this when I am still in so much pain from the c/s aswell!!!
Three weeks on it is easier and the last two nights I havent used any formula I think my body clock s getting used to the night feeds. The more formula feeds you give the less milk you will produce. I am a firm believer in happy mummy, happy baby, BF is something I really wanted to do as I comefrom a family who really disapprove of BF. My DH is supportive with whatever I do but it has been lovely for him to give DD2 a bottle he did that with DD1 aswell and it was lovely to see the smile on his face when feeding her

LadyTophamHatt · 17/01/2007 09:56

Hi girls, all details on the birth announcemnet thread but George Frasier arrived 4:22am 16th jan, 8lb 110z.

He's FAB.

I am never ever doing it again...

coffeebeanz · 17/01/2007 10:19

Yeaahhh ...well done LTH, they all come eventually.

Am lovin hearing about the first poo's thought it was just me that had a 'thing'about it.

Just wait until the first time you do 'the deed' again, I think I felt more scared of that than pooing !!!!!

DH bought me my fave chocolate (Green & Blacks butterscotch if anyones interested) and said that was for when normal activities resumed iykwim ! Then the cheeky secretly ate it over a few nights, so when the deed was done I didnt have my choclate after all.

Moral of the story ''Dont have sex again unless you have seen the chocolate'' and btw it wasnt much fun (TMI I know)!!!

Lizzzombie · 17/01/2007 11:18

Chocolate Coffeebeanz? I'm gonna need a litre of vodka to get me to do the deed with my DP again! x

Hattie2 · 17/01/2007 12:15

Hi all - at long last I can join you!

Jacob Oliver was born 10 days late on 15th Jan in a bit of a hurry (2 hrs 10 mins start to finish) and weighed in at 10lb 2oz

He's sleeping most of the time at the moment (don't remember dd doing this, but I'm not complaining as I'm sure it won't last!) but feeding well when I wake him up.

Coffeebeanz - you're very brave, it'll be more than 3 weeks before I'm atttempting that, with or without a chocolate bribe

Shimmer · 17/01/2007 14:45

Hi all. Congratulations to LTH and Hattie! Good to hear I'm not the only one in the world that is going for the bottle feeding option Wilkie. I do still feel slightly guilty about giving up so soon, but the last 24 hours have been bliss compared to the last week and I finally feel I can enjoy spending time with my LO, rather than dreading every time he wakes up because he's going to want feeding again! So now I'm really looking forward to having "nomal" boobs again - without the pain and leaking and spending hours in the bathroom applying cream and shields to stop them rubbing against my bra and causing more agony! Who knows, when they're feeling normal again I might even feel like doing the deed again I do think just 3 weeks is pretty impressive though coffeebeanz! I'm with you though Lizz - I'll be needing some serious alcohol to get me though I think

wilkie50 · 17/01/2007 15:12

Hattie - fab name

Shimmer - I have to say that I really didn't feel guilty about not BF. He had four good BF feeds in hospital but it is so nice to have DH sharing the feeding in the night (and day!!). My boobs are like rocks at the moment and just leak everywhere, Jacob keeps trying to latch on through my jumper even though I keep telling him I'm not open for business

Loving motherhood - it's hard but I just look at him and feel so so lucky. He's fab!

LTH - I'm off to read your birth story although I am stil having trouble navigating mumsnet so it may take me a while to find it

Loubie37 · 17/01/2007 15:44

Hi, I was wondering where you'd all got to! For those who don't know Benjamin William Ypres Lewis arrived 9 days early on 11th Jan weighing 8lb 8oz (full gory details in birth announcement - it's not pleasant reading and like LTH there will DEFINITELY be no more!!)

DH will have to agree to having the snip before his willy gets anywhere near me again....

I'm another one who's given up on BFing but not bothered by it - my milk was really late coming in due to the traumatic delivery so poor Ben would have starved if I hadn't made the switch - he lost 10oz as it was.

Anyway, must go, his lordship has woken up

Will try and post some pics later

Dragonhart · 17/01/2007 18:57

Congratulations to Wilkie, Indith, LTH, Hattie and Vinorouge. We are all poping now!

Ruth is doing really well and last night she slept really well after two night of feeding from 9 til 3am! Midwife said it was prob because of a growth spurt but I thought it might be because I scoffed loads of choc while feeding her. Read that cafine can make some babies fretful and have difficulty sleeping. Anyone else read that? Dont know if it is rubbish but it seemed to work so not messing!

Had her weighed today, she has put on 7lbs so I am feeling a bit better about her feeding now.

BF has been alot easier this time and my nipples have been alot less sore (although still have that toe curling moment when she latches on!). Last time I got help from a breastfeeding councillor in our area and also we have breastfeeding clinics where you can go and get help. I had loads of problems last time and really struggled to keep going but it was worth it after the first month.

That said, formula is not the easy option I am sure. It is all loads of work so definatly not worth kicking yourself over. My DH was fed on formula and no-one would know now! I bf my DS for almost 8 months lastime and he still has problems with eczema. What ever makes it easier for you to bear the nights and not a total zombie I recon!!

Dragonhart · 17/01/2007 18:58

Sorry, congratulations Loubie too! xxx

Dragonhart · 17/01/2007 19:00

And OMG coffee, it took me almost 8 months to pluck up the courage last time after a HORRIBLE delivery and loads of stiches. Got pregnant almost straight away so feel quite out of practice now!!

ellieandhattie · 17/01/2007 19:58

dh did you mean 7oz not 7lb?????
congrats to those who have popped this thread will start to get busier now im sure.

all going well here hattie has been bottle fed from beginning and was taking ages to feed at times (unlike her big sis who guzzled milk) swapped onto avent bottles and teats and she is taking 3oz with no problems so feeding times are only 15min long which fab at the 2am feed as we are back asleep by 2.30. ellie been diagonised with anxiety ezcema (sp)so having to give her treatments in the bath and applying steroid cream over her bum, legs and chest, dr thinks she may have always had ezcema but being seperated from me for 4 days and then hattie coming home triggered it all off, she is so sore bless her and night times a nightmare as she keeps scratching her legs so she has been sleeping in with us as dr said she needs lots of reassurance and love and hopeflly it'll go as quickly as it came.

dreading monday as dh back to work so have to deal with 2 kids on my own and still won't be able to drive aaargh

wonder wholl be next to pop? sorry about spelling typing one handed whilst having a cuddle with hattie

Dragonhart · 17/01/2007 20:57

Oops! Yes I ment 7oz! Gosh, I would be doing well if it was 7lbs. Would also make her 13lbs3 at a week old!

Sorry your little girl is so sore Ellie. Hope as you said it goes as quickly as it came. xxx

wilkie50 · 17/01/2007 22:20

EAH - I am using the Avent bottles but feeding is a bit of an arduous task. Jacob takes about 2.5oz every 3 hrs but can take up to 40 minutes to take the bottle (not nice at 2am!!!). Am having to give him boiled water in between too as he was getting constipated - anyone else found this with formula? Am using SMA Gold.

The cord stump dropped off today - hurray - didn't like that THING being attached to my little darling

Nemo2007 · 17/01/2007 22:33

Hello all
Chloe is now 12days old and was weighed today and is still 6lbs 14ozs so the same as when born. I was using Avent bottles with her but had to change to Dr browns as she was throwing up every feed with colic. Have been very lucky in that 12mth old DD1 has been surprisingly gentle and likes to give Chloe lots of kisses and cuddles. Ds adores DD2 and has a special bond with her so can see Chloe being very very spoilt by her big brother and sister.

A bit off topic and am sure most are not thinking about this yet but hey I caught with a very sick 3mth old so it is at the front of my mind. Contraception..what is everyone doing??? We thought we were done but now Chloe is here I cant say I wouldnt like to have more children so we are putting the vasectomy on hold. Spoken to MW today who has suggested the mirena coil but I am not sure what to do. Any ideas/tips????
