Who ever was asking about bottle feeding i am too and she takes 4oz every 4 hrs. Cant beleive shes 4 weeks old today where has that time gone?

ellieandhattie · 02/02/2007 12:42

forgot to add on my last message that we hd a trip to a&e with hattie last night as when I was dishing up Ellies tea she came into kitchen to tell me Hattie crying I told her not to worry and I'd sort her out in a minute, then I heard a thud and a cry and went into lounge to find Hattie face down on floor. Ellie had leant over side of moses basket to try and comfort her and moses basket tipped over. she seemed fine looking around etc but phoned drs who didnt call back so to be on safe side went to a&e they checked her straight away and ha to stay for 1.5hours so they could do 3 half hour obs and then came home. Although they phone this morning to see how she was and surprise surprose hv turned up at 10.45 and asked where i was when it happened explained it to her and she said well dont you take her with you, well no i was in the kitchen with boiling water etc and i have always left her in the moses basket if i am in the kitchen and it was obviously an accident ellie was distraugt last night and knows she musnt touch her moses basket or hattie duh bloody hv probably have a few more visits now

afternoon girls, sorry i haven't been about....rather hectic here atm as you can imagine.
there just aren't enough hours in the day!!!

George is going well, feeding every 3 hours, but is only ever up once in the night which is great. he's a hungry little chap which is a real novelty for us as the olders one were all hard work to feed. george finishes a bottle in about 10-15 minutes whereas ds3 used to take hours sometimes. btw, wilkie, yor're not the only one bottle feeding although I'm still expressing, which is sooooo time consuming and a real faff. there no way i could produce enough to satisfy him, i can only get enough for 1, maybe 2 feeds so he'd be screaming all day.

the hv came yesterday, she seems ok as hv's go....i doubt i'll get to see her that much and she'll leave us to get on with it all. i like to think i know what i'm doing now .
george tips the scales at 9lb 13.5oz now which is aboutthe same as the older ds's weighed at 4 -6 weeks and he's only 17 days!!
he's got a lovely pudgy layer of fat all over him and is now affectionatley known as The pudger
i've been tryingto down load a photo on my profile thingy but it never works, don't know what i'm doing wrong but it's bloody annoying.

congratulations to all the new editions to the thread.

you've all probably guessed i'm one handed typing by now, no capitals and all that

Harry2007 · 02/02/2007 16:46

I started out breastfeeding Rhydian - he fed straight after he was born but then refused to feed for the next 24 hours. I had to endure the midwife expressing milk from my boob and syringing it inot his mouth but he just spat it out - sooo ungrateful! Had to switch to bottle but when I came home from hospital, he decided that he didn't like the bottle anymore and we switched back to breastfeeding. I had so much milk, I was expressing 9 ounces every morning as wellas feeding him on demand! Then something weird happened - I went from having copious amounts of milk to absolutely nothing at all - MW said that it was because Rhydian wasn't latching on properly and not stimulating my milk production. So at the moment, we're back onto the bottles!

theUrbanDryad · 02/02/2007 17:09

elliehattie - thanks for updating the list!! glad to hear hattie's ok; must have been a shock for you (to say the least) but least hattie is ok.

and CONGRATS 2Happy!!! we'll expect you very soon on here then? thanks to big sis for keeping us updated.

has anyone else's LO's eyes changed colour yet? think zac's eyes are going brown, but i'm not sure.

just added to some new pics of dds and me on my profile

trixymalixy · 02/02/2007 19:23

Liath, didn't realise you and 2happy are related!! Please pass on my congrats to her, I'm delighted she has had her LO at last, hope everything went well for her.

Lizz, You're not a div, I had exactly the same thing as you. It wasn't until I had a look at the scary book that i realised they should feed from both breasts. I'm pi**ed off no-one told me either. They just said to feed from a different side at each feed at the hospital! I have just borrowed loads of books from a friend as had assumed before that the info given by the midwifes etc would be enough so didn't buy any.

Can really sympathise with the sore nips.I have a big crack running along the side of one of mine.

Ellieandhattie, so glad to hear Hattie is OK, you must have got a real fright.

Loubie37 · 02/02/2007 19:56

Hi sorry I've been AWOL I've been having a bit of a mare with Ben...he started projectile vomiting after virtually every feed which meant by the time I'd done the feeding/winding/nappy change/wiping up sick/complete change of clothes & bedding routine it was time to start all over again as he was hungry all the time

My HV didn't want to know as Ben isn't faling to thrive (only because I was constantly feeding him) so we decided to put him on SMA Staydown formula. So far so good sickness wise but it seems to take much longer settling him after feeds now....I'm permanently exhausted

Anyway, congrats to all the new mums, and hope everyone else is diddling along nicely

I finally got round to putting some pics on my profile if anyone wants a peek...excuse the first one, I didn't look my best, it was before I had my blood transfusion the day after Ben was born but there aren't that many photos of the two of us!

wilkie50 · 02/02/2007 21:17

Laughalot - quick sympathy post. Jacob does exactly the same (particulalry at 3am feed) - takes feed fine, falls asleep on bottle, settle him down and within 5 mins he's screaming and it then takes about an hour to settle him back to sleep! Grrrr.

Off to bed now - will post more tomorrow as mum has gone. Cried my eyes out all the way home but am composed again now

wilkie50 · 03/02/2007 12:49

You lot are quiet - had a nightmare night, he slept from 12.30am-3am and has been awake since and it is currently 12.42pm. My eyes are like piss holes in the snow!

Finally got round to catching up with all the posts. LOVE all of the photos on profiles - some beautiful babies out there ladies. Have updated mine after sussing out how to with some pics of my little man.

EAH - sorry to hear about Hattie's accident. Poor little Ellie, I bet she won't be doing that again in a hurry! My HV has been telling me NOT to keep Jacob with me all the time and to put him on his own for his naps. They all tell you different don't they!!

BF - can't comment as not doing it but sore cracked nips do not sound like fun!! Sympathies.

DH - Jacob refuses to be swaddled and screams if I try - loads of people have suggested it but he is having none of it. He loves to flail his arms about.

Laughalot - my little man is exactly the same as your LO, he feeds great but then just will not settle unless he is on my chest which I really don't want to get into the habit of at night, plus, I can't sleep properly with him there and would much rather put him back down. Have tried moses basket, rocking crib, pram, vibrating chair - nothing seems to work. Very frustrating.

BTW, has anyone else had issues with 'annoying' visitors. My DH's aunt who lives in the same city keeps 'popping round' and is driving me MAD! She is a bit of a battle axe who just won't take the hint to call before she comes round. I wouldn't mind if she was a close relative but DH hadn't seen her for 7 years before J arrived and now she has been 3 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even some of my BFs haven't seen him yet and they live in the same city but have listened to our 'no visitors' rule whilst J got over his virus and hospital stay.

LadyTophamHatt · 03/02/2007 16:10

Ds4 does that too.

He'll guzzle down his milk then be all fretful trying to get back to sleep....he has never stayed aleeep in his moses basket after the 3am feed.
I've pretty much given up on trying to get him back in it now and we both just fall back to sleep with him in my arms or on my chest.

Luckily I love sleeping on my back and I wake up in exactly the same position as I fell asleep!!

OonaghBhuna · 03/02/2007 17:51

we seem to have horrendous days/nights and then an ok one in between. Dd2 has the snuffles my Hv said oh they all have the snuffles at the moment.....I thought well that is alot of help especially when she cant feed properly because she cant breathe. She spends so much time talking that she isnt really focusing on the job. She is collicky at night so the colief seems to be helping with the pain she still pukes but its not as bad.
I have had alot of visitors which is ok but sometimes very tiresome especially when they give me a time of when they should be arrivng and then they appear two hours late and I have been waiting which is really frustrating as it upsets our routine. Dd1 likes to go out for walks etc.
my DH family can be very overwhelmimg, they appeared this afternoon when I could have had a nap

katierocket · 04/02/2007 10:36

hello all, god it's so long since I've posted. Everyone sounds like they are doing well. I had forgotten what hard work newborns are. Charlie is doing well but finds it very hard to settle and easily gets overtired. Am considering dummy as he's so 'sucky' but a bit reluctant too as we had all sorts of probs later on when DS1 had one.

Am dreading school run tomorrow - DP back to work. ANy tips? I know he's going to scream his head off at school!

theUrbanDryad · 04/02/2007 15:01

well Zac met his great grandmother yesterday - she seemed quite with it, except for calling him Oliver on the way out (well, she got it half right!) we've had a nice time for a change at the PIL's, having food cooked for us (2 roast dinners in one weekend - two weekends in a row! I could get used to this ) and them sitting with Zac while we escaped for an hour to the pub. hoorah!

Katie - it's nice to hear from you again...do you walk or drive to school? i don't do school runs but i do find that Zac settles really well in the pram/sling and usually just goes to sleep in the car. good luck for tomorrow! x x x x

OP posts:
katierocket · 04/02/2007 17:02

at the thought of going to the pub!

I've had dreadful day today. DS2 screamed his head off for four hours- I am so paranoid it's the start of colic (which DS1 had and was hideous). Basically he was just desperately tired but could not settle. Everytime he went to sleep he woke up 5 mins later desperate to suckle. I ended up feeding him before he needed it (for comfort) and he then projectile vomited it all up - awful.

Ended up taking him out in pram which got him to sleep - fingers crossed tonight will be OK.

trixymalixy · 04/02/2007 17:23

katierocket, we're considering a dummy as well for DS. I don't really like them, but it seems better than sitting (or lying with my hand over the edge of his moses basket) with my finger in his mouth the whole time.

I'm just so knackered I'll try anything!!

I nearly gave the cats apple juice and me cat food today, I'm that tired!!

LadyTophamHatt · 04/02/2007 17:23

KR, george has dummy now because he's a really sucky baby too.

We managed for almost 2 week without one but he's been soooooooo much calmer and less fretful since he had it. It's quite amazing actually!

Ds3 didn't have one(ds1+2 both did) so I was abit reluctant to start using them again because of the faff of getting them off them but....well it's not the end of the world if they have one, is it??

As for school runs, the one thing that I've been doing that makes a huge differnece if making the pack lunch the evening before and having the uniform and my clothes all ready laid out.
I've only had to do it alone with all 4 twice so far but I'm very proud to say we were there in time with all of us looking cool calm and collected...oh and clean because I even got shower before we had to go!!!

Ask me again on Friday how the morning cshool runs have been and it'll be another story. This is my first full week of morning school runs....ekkkkk!

LadyTophamHatt · 04/02/2007 17:25

Ohhhh Trixy and KR....give your boys a dummy!!

wilkie50 · 04/02/2007 17:48

I second the dummy thing - didn't want to use them with DS but he now has one between feeds if he is fretful. Don't use them at night as he goes to sleep with it but as soon as it drops out he wakes up which is a pain in the ass!

Had a fab night last night - we put him in the nursery rather than his own room (he's 3 weeks). Feel so guilty but the difference was amazing and I feel so much better today! We put the moses basket inside the cot and he slept in there. Our room is literally next door so we left both doors open and had the monitor on which was a comfort as I could hear him breathing but he didn't wake me at all in the night with his usual snuffles. I'm beginning to think maybe we were disturbing him when we turned over in bed etc. Fingers crossed tonight is the same!!! What a difference a good night makes...

katierocket · 04/02/2007 17:58

Ok, I'm convinced! have tentatively tried with two different kinds of dummies but he just rolls them round his mouth - can't remember whether it took a while for DS1 to take it. He (DS1) would suck my little finger forever if I let him but am terrified about him getting into that habit.

wilkie50 · 04/02/2007 18:40

KR - I have to hold the dummy gently in his mouth for about 30 seconds until he starts suckling - then once it's in there is no removing it until he spits it out!
