I feel your pain beaut - an also suffering with piles here. Sad times.

Congrats magpie! Does he have a name yet?

indom yes Raynaud's of the nipple and its more likely if you get it in your hands/feet when not pregnant/bf (which I do) and it can be triggered by having poor latch/nipple damage (which I have). Its not very common though but the main symptoms are pains between feeds, particularly when exposed to cold or a drop in temperature. Basically my nipples go erect and are very sore. Getting out of the shower is horrific. The other sign is if nipple changes colour and goes white (kinda like the way your fingers do with Raynaud's I guess). Its really annoying as hard to diagnose from a GP, and basically you have to wait it out.

IndomitabIe · 30/03/2016 07:30

Morning! I don't have a baby yet but I did sleep all night. So there! Grin

Crispy, I'm led to believe being 1cm for a second baby is not unusual at all. It means nothing.

Thanks marmite, I didn't have any nip-issues between feeds last time, so I suspect it wasn't a problem.

My friend is in for her twinny csec! I'm so excited for her! Kind of disappointed for me though!

BeautifulLiar · 30/03/2016 08:12

marmite phew! Glad I'm not the only one. Sorry if TMI but what position did you give birth in? On all fours was the best for me but the two births where I did that seemed to lead to a few problems down there! Blush

maybebabybee · 30/03/2016 09:01

Morning all!

Anyone else have an excessively pukey baby? Sid pretty much spits up after every feed, sometimes just a teeny posset, sometimes copious amounts that look like all of what I've just fed him. This morning when I was changing him he brought up loads - all over his clothes and came out through his nose too. He didn't seem hugely fussed by it but not sure if this is within the realms of normal or not. Was meant to be have a mw visit today so thought I'd ask her but she's just cancelled.

maybebabybee · 30/03/2016 09:02

Whoops missed magpie's news - congratulations :)

Trinpy · 30/03/2016 10:53

Congratulations magpie!

maybe yep I have a very pukey baby too. Its completely normal unless they're either losing weight/not following their centile line or if they are in pain from it. My first baby had acid reflux and barely slept, cried constantly and fed constantly, but it was easily fixed with Gaviscon. Its very weird this time round to have a baby who will throw up then drift off to sleep! Also, the amount of milk they bring up always looks more than it is, and I think most babies become less pukey by 3 months ish.

RhubarbAndMustard · 30/03/2016 11:26

We had a pukey baby too Maybe but he's 4 weeks tomorrow and it's definitely much less frequent now. He often wants more than his bottle and also seems to be in some pain after feeds although he burps fine. Is this colic? Or possibly reflux? Trinpy how do you tell? Apart from his painful cries and hunger I can't see anything wrong. It really worries me when his little face is scrunched up, red and in pain Sad. We gave him some Dentinox yesterday but as he burps (and farts!) I'm not sure if that's helping. His poo's are normal too.

Congrats magpie!

Keep checking in for news on Indom.

Marmite that sounds sore! Really feel for those with BF issues.

IndomitabIe · 30/03/2016 11:43

I don't know what non- reflux looks like, DS had reflux, we were dismissed by the GO and had a terrible time of it till a different GP gave us magic gaviscon!

Bit of bloody show here but nothing exciting. Last time it was show > contractions in about 5 minutes. Evidently not this time.

My friend has finally gone down for her c-sec! (I know this is of no interest to you, but I'm excited!)

IndomitabIe · 30/03/2016 11:45

*GP (I swear I already corrected that twice!)

Woodenmouse · 30/03/2016 11:50

Fx it will be soon indom

Poppins27 · 30/03/2016 12:24

Well done beaut and Mrsben, having to coordinate 2 little people is hard enough...more than that and I think my head would explode right now!!

Congratulations magpie, welcome to the sore boob/sleep deprivation club. It's worth it though for the squishy cuddles!!

Marmite despite your troubles, to put weight on in the the 5 days is brilliant, well done!! So far feeding has gone well for me but Albert dropped weight slightly, not enough to be concerned but had gained at last mw appt. bfing my Dd 4 years ago was awful, she didn't loose an ounce. It's nice that despite torment, trauma, pain and sometimes damn right misery...the babies are still thriving giving you the confidence to persevere!!

I'm happy that despite feeding well this time, I really wanted to start expressing so DP can give a bottle or two and I can be a bit more independent if necessary. 10 mins pumping yesterday face me nearly 3oz which was swiftly guzzled by Bertie...was so relieved!!!

Come on Indom, were all routing for you. Definitely sounds like your bodies gearing up for a baby eviction!! Hope your LO had a lovely birthday!! (And is relieved they don't need to share the day in future!!) Smile

IndomitabIe · 30/03/2016 12:27

Thanks for the encouragement! Grin

Off out to local NT place for a walk.

Trinpy · 30/03/2016 13:13

Rhu can only speak from my own experience, but I knew Ds had reflux because he:

  • could go up to a 12 hour stretch without sleep then crashed out from exhaustion at night
  • fed loads - at least every 1-2hrs, then would immediately bring it back up again and cry until he was fed again
  • couldn't be fed or rocked to sleep
  • cried all day long

Colic is different - unexplained crying, usually in the evenings, and it goes by 3 months old. Infacol, dentinox, etc are good for colic but for reflux you need gaviscon.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 30/03/2016 13:22

beaut I also gave birth on all fours this time so maybe that it?

Re: puking, DD1 was a really sicky baby and vommed copious amounts all the time right up till she was 6 months old and a bit beyond. However she was a happy sicker and never cried so I didn't try to do anything about it. maybe if Sid seems really bothered by it then might be worth a trip to the GP but if he's generally happy then I wouldn't worry about it-some babies just are a bit sicky. Eleanor is a bit sick after some feeds but so far nothing like her older sister so am hoping it stays that way as I ended up having to do so much washing with DD1! Despite always having a muslin draped over me she would always manage to angle herself so she was sick not on it! I remember once DP having a muslin draped over his chest and DD1 pulling his sweater down and being sick down his front - was hilarious Grin

BeautifulLiar · 30/03/2016 15:16

That's really odd marmite - maybe we're onto something?! In the meantime anusol is my friend :(

Park and picnic today! 4 is actually ok in some ways - at pizza hut I took one with me to help change Nancy and left the other one to supervise the next youngest (although I came back to her nearly falling off a chair and screaming in panic, oops!)

Nancy is sick sometimes but usually swallows it - is that silent reflux? She gets hiccups a lot!!

ffauxlivia · 30/03/2016 15:21

Congrats magpie yay!

Thanks for all the support yesterday, still a bit weepy but it's definitely better the more she sleeps. Feeding still a nightmare, I decided yesterday to try exclusively pumping as we were having so many struggles and tears and frustration at the breast. I was immediately less stressed, and did still breastfeed a couple of time mainly for comfort suckling in the evening. But I'm only pumping 1oz - 1.5oz each time so still need formula to top up, so it seems that I have a supply issue too :( have lots of support from lactation specialists but I'm going to get my thyroid checked as well, as I have been slightly hypo in the past which I know can interfere with milk supply.

Another one with a sicky baby here, so thanks trinpy for that info as I was also wondering how to tell if it's reflux or colic. She's very unsettled in the evening and can't be soothed, which has been super stressful!

Purpleprickles · 30/03/2016 16:18

Congrats Maybe!

Beaut and Marmite sorry to blow your theory out of the water but I gave birth on my back (no time to get into a nicer position) and the dreaded piles have reared their ugly heads for me too. Anusol all the way Blush

E is a bit sicky too but so far not bothered with it. I'm nervous about colic because she is really windy and will do a pain cry quite often. It's hard to get her to drink slowly even though we have the slowest flow teats. She also seems to struggle with poos but she does go. She just seems a bit in pain sometimes. All this is so new because ds had very little wind and did lovely runny bf poos. I'm just hoping it isn't going to be the start of real colic because at the moment it is only a bit of fussing between about 5-9pm and also winding takes bit of effort on our part.

Indom crossing fingers for you today! Bet you are pleased you carried on til the end of term now. I know I was pleased to have gone til the week before my due date when E didn't arrive on time. We went to a NT trust place today too- trying to make the most of our membership and get E lots of fresh air and ds space to run and climb.

IndomitabIe · 30/03/2016 16:45

Yes, purple! Very pleased to be technically still at work and therefore on full pay!

Trinpy · 30/03/2016 17:43

Glad you're feeling a bit better today ffaux though sorry to hear you're still having trouble with feeding. The problem with exclusive pumping is that a pump isn't as effective as a baby is at getting the milk out, so you can have a great supply but only see a tiny amount of it when you use a breast pump. Apologies if you already knew that, but I didn't want you thinking that that was all the milk you could make and feeling even more rubbish! I did exclusive pumping for 2 weeks with ds and found having him nearby me (cuddling him if poss) and pumping early in the morning produced the most milk. Well done for making it this far Flowers.

dobbythedoggy · 30/03/2016 18:51

I've found the 'snot shooter'! Just spent a very satisfying half hour sucking rediculous amounts of snot out of Eddy's nose with the aid of lots of snuffle babe. The relief on his face was epic! Think I must be the only one on here hoping for tidal wave of baby sick after every feed, clears the congestion beautifully.

Just wanted to sharea few of the pearls of wisdom various gps have taught me over the past couple of days.

  • Young babies can't cough up phemg, they need to vomit, so if baby is congested feed them as much as they'll take and jiggle them around lots after feeding
  • If you need to prop up the head of a mosses basket, fold up a towle or blanket and drape it over the bar of the stand. Keeps everything stable.
  • It's almost imposable to use too much saline spray or drops and combining both can work magic.
  • Steam is good for blocked noses but not coughs.
  • GPs really would rather see a baby multipul times just to reasure parents running on no sleep so they are sure they haven't missed anything.

indom I hope ds enjoyed his birthday and that he has a little brother very soon!

ff I never found pumping produced much, the very few times I pumped when I needed to leave dd with ebm, it helped to pump with her latched. Or right after a hot shower.

RhubarbAndMustard · 30/03/2016 19:50

Thanks for those pearls dobby. Have they all worked on Eddy? Jacob has come out in a cold today so now thinking his cries of pain related to that. (Although my dad noticed he brings his legs up when he cries so he thinks wind) So hard to know! Have got the saline drops so will try your other tips if needed. He is still guzzling so much I'm scared he's going to burst!

Even though this is my second baby I still feel as lost as with the first.

Purpleprickles · 30/03/2016 20:41

Sorry to hear about the colds Rhu and Dobby. I remember ds getting one about 5 weeks old and it was horrid.

Rhu thank you for saying that about still feeling as lost with your second baby. I feel just the same! Muddling through really.

BumpPower · 30/03/2016 20:52

Congratulations magpie hope you are having newborn cuddles!
Last man standing indom are you on full pay until baby is born or did the clock start with your due date? Well done for overcoming the joint birthday trap! There is part of me that's a little sad I will only have one day to celebrate - I know that's silly, Ginny and her brother won't know any different and as they get older we'll have 2 separate parties around the date but I'll only get one day thinking this time last year...this time 2 years ago.. I'm being silly I know!

IndomitabIe · 30/03/2016 22:19

Day after delivery, Bump! I checked it all out thoroughly, was questioned by Finance (and then DHs finance dept for shared leave portion), but sources confirm they can't start it till the day after delivery. Got to love school holidays! It makes the 4 weeks on full pay last that much longer (and the rest). Which will help with the mortgage!

That's an interesting point about celebrations. They'll induce me on our wedding anniversary, which at the moment I'm fine with. But as the midwife pointed out, at significant anniversaries everything'll be overshadowed by birthdays instead. (I still can't find it in me to be bothered at the moment though).

I keep having some promising feeling BHs, but then it all stops again. I'm not sure if I should be doing something, or taking the opportunity to rest while I still can.
