Oh that's reassuring bump. Obviously not great that you're getting the slow start to labour too but its nice to know I'm not the only one! Have you had anymore signs of progress today?

Ooh marmite that sounds promising.

Wrt formula, whenever I needed to bottle feed and cba to express I used to use the pre made bottles because I found the advice on the correct way to make up bottles a bit confusing. Its a pricey way to do it though so probably not the best solution if you're out and about a lot.

Right, my plan for this afternoon is to pack up a mini picnic and walk to the park with ds and dh. Then I'm making a v hot curry for dinner, and possibly going to scrub the kitchen floor. I've alerted dh that we may need to have sex tonight, but fx all the other stuff will work so we won't have to resort to that.

QforCucumber · 17/03/2016 15:04

ffaux she's beautiful!

time I can't help as have no idea but glad you're getting the perfect prep machine and putting your mind at ease.

Good luck marmite hope you're right and have managed to turn baby!

And finger crossed for you too suz my sweeps were apparently useless haha.

Called delivery suite again as requested - been told to call again at 5. Actually want to cry. I'm just getting myself more and more anxious now - can feel the pain rising. feel awful on dp as he isn't eligible for paternity leave so has started 2 weeks holiday today and it's just been a waste. I asked if ill be in today - and they don't know Angry what's the point in making a booking if they're just gonna say no on the day?! Just want to go in, have them cut me open and get it out now - have had enough. I know I shouldn't be complaining as only 7 days overdue but it's more that for the last 7 days I've been expecting today to be the day and it's all gone wrong.

MyNameIsSuz · 17/03/2016 15:19

Oh no q that's rubbish. Would his work let him go back in tomorrow if you're not in then, and restart his leave when you do go in?

I'm 7 days over too and totally get you. I just want it done now. I'm in a lot of pain in my pelvis, even walking is quite hard, but I don't think it means anything as it's happened before!

trinpy, sounds like an excellent plan! Fingers crossed!

1frenchfoodie · 17/03/2016 15:52

marmite sounds like progress, fingers crossed.

ffaux gorgeous picture and lovely name.

suz I am sending out positive sweep vibes. Had my 2nd today and things looking better than tue when it wasn't possible to do full sweep. Still only 1cm dilated but sifter, lower etc so giving me confidence to try to get agreement to a day or two of monitoring from when I hit 40+12 and usual induction date tomorrow. Local unit use a 24h slow release pessary and have monitors you can move around with so also more relaxed about induction process if I end up going that route.

MyNameIsSuz · 17/03/2016 16:02

Positive sweep vibes right back at you foodie!

dobbythedoggy · 17/03/2016 16:30

purple health visitor has been, said to leave his skin be and just to give him a quick bath every other day in plain water and make sure he is dried well after. Said it's normal with a baby who has reached 40 weeks or gone over due as they've obsorbed more of the white stuff (can't remember the name) that they are born with. She said it could take between two to four weeks for it to stop peeling but not to worry. Just to make a gps appointment, pop into health clinic or give her a call if the skin started to crack or look inflamed or if appeared sore when touched and they'd prescribe something very gettle to use and check for infection.

Hearing test all clear.

Q that's so frustrating, unfortantly I was warned it often happens at our local hospital when the consultant booked me in, not that I got to test it. The midwife said it was so they can try to keep you downstairs on the delivery ward so your birthing patner can stay with you and you can stay in a private room rather than be taken upstairs to the antinatle/postnatle ward with shaired bays and the potentail for your support to need to leave outside of visiting hours.

MrsBenWyatt · 17/03/2016 17:23

How frustrating for you Q. Which hospital is it?

When I was in North Tees having my section, there were 3 MWs off ill so they were pushing back/ cancelling inductions. I hope they have space for you soon Flowers

QforCucumber · 17/03/2016 17:41

mrsben james cook - luckily we live on the old college site so it's literally next door and I really do appreciate that they're busy etc, it had just taken a lot for me to agree to be induced and then all this mess about has made me feel like I shouldn't. Knowing my luck baby still will take 3 days even with induction.

Have to go in for 7pm but they've advised they're busy so maybe won't actually get seen for a while.

Thanks all for letting me vent my worries.

IndomitabIe · 17/03/2016 17:47

Afternoon all, I've been sneakily dipping in during the day today.

marmite! Hope everything's going well still!

Ffaux, that's a lovely name! (I love Seren too though!)

How odd, sounds like waters to me, Charley.

Sympathy, Q. Hope I'll read you're going in this evening.

I survived another day at work. So, so tired today (mainly the cough, I think). My lovely cleaner (work, I don't have one at home!) is now telling me I should stop work! My technician has told me to eat pineapple literally every time I've seen him this week! My colleagues would like me to stick it out otherwise they all get dumped on, which is fair enough! (Though they won't say it, of course!)

MrsBenWyatt · 17/03/2016 18:26

I cannot believe you are still teaching Indom. I am sitting planning what I can do to never return to school. DH is being supportive but realistically it will be a massive financial hit if I don't go back.

Q I'm hoping you go in tonight, they start you off and you sleep all night, then wake up in labour and have a sneeze birth!

Trinpy · 17/03/2016 18:27

How frustrating Q. I hope you're not left waiting around for long.

Fx the sweeps work Suz and French.

No more contractions since midday but the walk has definitely helped because I came home to find I'd lost loads more plug. There was some blood in it (sorry for all the tmi) so I'm taking that as a sign that I have made some progress at last Smile.

QforCucumber · 17/03/2016 18:54

Argh sat waiting for my room now, dp just dropping the car off. I think I may cry, or be sick, or both! Is this nervousness normal??

MyNameIsSuz · 17/03/2016 19:18

Eep q, exciting! I'd say it's pretty normal to be nervous.

Purpleprickles · 17/03/2016 19:33

Good luck Q, I agree nerves sound very normal!

Thanks Dobby we haven't bathed Evie much, mainly top and tailing but I'll bath her a bit more often.

Indom I'm a teacher too and admire you keeping going! I thought I did well going until a week before but going up to your due date is pretty amazing!

Does anyone else with their newborn feel anxious at night? I had this with ds as soon as it got dark I'd get butterflies in my tummy and feel nervous. I know it passes but it's horrible and silly because I don't have it in the day. Also when I wake in the middle of the night to feed E I feel ok, it just seems to be this time of night until my first stint of sleep.

IndomitabIe · 17/03/2016 19:50

Ah, Purple, I'm not there yet! 39+1 today and feeling increasingly awful this evening so seriously considering mitching off tomorrow. I'll think about Monday when I get there. I've been really lucky to feel really well (until now) with this pregnancy. (It struck me today that you know you're tired when labour and a newborn start to look like a rest!)

MrsBen teaching is shit at the moment, and I understand your wanting to leave. Personally, if I can ignore the shit I still love it. I'm hoping that were about to reach 'peak shit' and the government will have to improve conditions if they want to recruit and retain teachers. I'm in the very lucky position of being at a very good and rational school.

Hope you're in, Q. I'm sure those nerves are entirely normal!

dobbythedoggy · 17/03/2016 20:17

purple I felt like that to begin with. Horriable twisty, butterfly type anxsity that started as dd finished her tea and didn't stop until Eddy was settled in his bed and I got to go to sleep. Even an hour of sleep settled it, but it is horriable. It seems to have settled the past few nights, which has co insided with me getting out more in the day and not trying to go up to bed until Eddie is ready to settle to sleep.

indom, purple, mrsben and any other teachers; I'm amazed you're able to function within the current system. I'm greatful I found a place I loved working in the early years and didn't feel the need to continue on to do a PGCE when I finished my degree as I'd originally planned. I don't think I could stand working in the conditions many of my friends who did take that route have to endure. It's so different from the independent school the nursery I worked in fed into where teachers could actually do what teachers are meant to and inspire their students to be passionate learners, not needing to teach to pass exams etc and have the resources they actually need.

RhubarbAndMustard · 17/03/2016 20:25

Good luck Q, hopefully things get moving for you soon.

Purple I definitely get that fear feeling this time of the evening too.

I'm feeling slightly anxious as Jacob hadn't had a poo in 2 days now and he projectile vomited this afternoon. He's been sick probably at least once a day for the last 3/4, but this was the first spectacular flume that went from one side of the sofa to the other. I think it's just his immature digestive system but can't help but worry.
I'm also worried about my incision. It's 2 weeks later now and was feeling fine, but realised it was because I was still taking the pain killers. Without them it's still pretty sore and I think there is a slight hole on one side. Anyone know if it just takes time to close up properly? I really don't want to go back for more stitches.

dobbythedoggy · 17/03/2016 21:11

rhubarb c-section recovery can varry hugely, after a few days with dd I didn't need painkillers as long as I was careful as I just felt tight. But others I know who have had sections still needed painkillers at your stage of recovery and for a few weeks after. Personally the only thing that really hurt was trying to load or unload the washing machien. One part of my wound took longer than the rest to heal properly, it was the very edge on the side where the wire was removed, I think I kept knocking the scab off everytime it got close to closing up. But I think it's one of those things it's not worth taking a chance with. Can you call your midwife or the ward you were discharged from for some advice? Even if it is a little open doesn't mean they'll want to stich again, but may want to keep an eye on it. My dad had major sugery a few years ago and had a couple of wounds that took weeks and weeks to close, they were just treated with specail dressings and monitored for signs of infection.

I had mine checked a few times although it very quickly looked like nothing at all just for reassurance; dd took longer than 10 days to be discharged so the midwife and health visitors I saw were happy to look as was the practice nurse at the gps when I was worried. I'm the same this time around with my stiches from 3rd degree tear, I'll show any medical person who's willing to look! Almost two weeks on I need to be careful to stay on top of painkillers to keep comfortable, the midwife who discharged me said she wouldn't worry if I still needed a good level of pain relief for 6 weeks and said to disscuss it with gp at 6 week check if I was worried.

Purpleprickles · 17/03/2016 21:20

Thanks Rhubarb and Dobby that makes me feel better. Dh has gone to bed feeling ill with the cold/ cough ds had so I sat and had a good cry which made me feel a bit better. My parents arrive tomorrow which I'm really happy about. When I had ds I remember really wanting my mum which I hadn't felt like since I left home at 18. I'm 38 now and feel like that 18 year old again Blush

Rhubarb my sil had a csection and hers took a long time to heal for no real reason. E only did one little poo yesterday but seems to have made up for it today. In my baby book it does say to expect between 0-8 dirty nappies a day. **

marmiteandcheeseplease · 17/03/2016 22:49

Baby Eleanor was born this evening at home in the birthing pool at 6.47pm, weighing 7 pounds 5! Birth much easier this time - I kept expecting the pain to get worse and it didn't (though it was bloody painful!) - not having a back to back labour was so much more manageable! Was a bit shocked when at the pushing stage and DP didn't even realise I was till the midwife said she thought baby would be born in 10-15mins. all fine post birth, had 2nd degree tear but midwife said it wasnt too bad. enjoying being at home with baby! Pics to follow at some point....GrinGrinGrin

CharleytheFrenchPoodle · 17/03/2016 22:54

Congratulations marmite! Beautiful name- it's one we are considering if this baby turns out to be a girl Smile Sounds like a fantastic birth and can't wait to see pictures!

I've just been to the toilet and there's some pinky fluid on my pad- am guessing this could be a show? After leakage of fluid today I'm doubting what's going on. There was nothing like this with DD so feel a bit clueless Confused

magpiedreams · 17/03/2016 23:00

Blimey marmite that was all very efficient in the end! Congratulations!

Sounds like a show charley, what checks did they do to change firm your waters hadn't gone? You can always give them a ring again if you want some reassurance.

I got a bit excited earlier as I had a good couple of hours of regular tightenings, but nothing remotely painful and all stopped anyway. Would be better paternity leave wise to hold off until next week though so shan't complain.

CharleytheFrenchPoodle · 17/03/2016 23:05

They did a speculum exam. Made me cough a couple of times which she was looking and having a quick feel and said there's discharge but it's not your waters. Had a couple of strongish pains before and a continuation of the leakage in small amounts so I'm just seeing how things go. Going to go to bed and chances are it will all calm down during the night!

MrsElls · 18/03/2016 01:36

Yay congrats marmite, glad you got the home birth you wanted.

RhubarbAndMustard · 18/03/2016 01:51

Thanks dobby and purple. Feel more reassured now. Midwife is coming round on Monday (not discharged as Jacob still has cord attached) so will show her then and take it easy this weekend. Jacob had a poo tonight- yay!!

Congrats marmite! Sounds like a dream birth, well done you.
