Damn, I think I'd just about talked myself out of it, didn't fancy walking home in flip flops... maybe I will brave it Smile

vroc81 · 16/03/2016 13:59

I've been thinking since I left BP check this morning... Induction is booked for Friday and would have been seeing community MW tmrw if hadn't been having checks at hospital this week but was wondering about seeing if she had an appointment for one last sweep attempt tmrw having had one last Friday? Or shall I just leave it for Friday's induction now? Can u tell I'm trying to avoid the drugs?!

MyNameIsSuz · 16/03/2016 14:07

It can't hurt to ask vroc!

Purpleprickles · 16/03/2016 14:49

Hi Vroc and Wooden Smile

Vroc I had a sweep the afternoon before I went into labour. It worked but had it have not my midwife was planning to sweep a few more times before ahead of an induction so I think you should ask.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 16/03/2016 14:54

yep can't hurt to ask vroc!

congrats purple and welcome to the March 2016 thread!

nothing doing here after my show earlier Sad. have had lots of BH and a couple of fanny daggers but nothing remotely resembling a contraction. going to tidy the front room in preparation for my hopeful home birth and hope that squatting and standing/moving around will help, as I've been sat on my arse all day feeling knackered after my shitty sleep last night and feeling sorry for myself.

BumpPower · 16/03/2016 15:00

In the waiting room to see the mw foe a sweep. Have waves of pain after my long walk here....Having daydreams she is going to say - you are dilated and in labour get thee to hospital! Or better still she will tickle my nose with a feather and I will have a sneeze baby!
Congrats ffaux

BeautifulLiar · 16/03/2016 15:03

Suz I had a pedicure then a few hours later went into labour with Nancy!

In between two particularly strong contractions I shouted "Oh shit! My pedicure!" The midwives found it hilarious!

QforCucumber · 16/03/2016 15:18

Haha bump a sneeze baby sounds perfect - a friend texted me earlier to ask if I'm nervous about being induced tomorrow and I realised I haven't really thought about it. No idea what to expect or anything so going to be going in completely blind Confused

beautiful that's brilliant - hope you didn't smudge a toe Grin

Oh dear marmite this stop/start game really is no fUn is it Sad

MyNameIsSuz · 16/03/2016 15:22

Ooh maybe bump! I think I'm going to walk to mine tomorrow, might set things off?

Sorry things have stalled marmite, hopefully still a sign that it'll kick off soon.

That was my worry Beautiful so I decided against it - thought if I ended up in theatre for whatever reason, section or something, I'd be extra gutted about having to take my nail varnish off!

BeautifulLiar · 16/03/2016 15:54

Omg Suz I didn't even think of that Shock I had Shellac nails done too!

Q they fared really well actually! despite me being on all fours twisting and squirming on the bed

DH has gone to get the older three and Nancy is asleep so I've taken the opportunity to get more prepared for tomorrow! Clothes for all of us are set out, washing set to go at 5am, bags/car seat/etc by the door... military operation or what!!

1frenchfoodie · 16/03/2016 16:19

vroc worth asking. I had sweep yesterday and another is planned for tomorrow before induction this weekend, worth getting at least 2 in. Think my plug is going after sweep was a write off yesterday so fingers crossed.

Is the nail varnish thing a big deal - surely they can look at gums, inner eyes etc for other signs? Mind you all I have managed is a clear layer.

BumpPower · 16/03/2016 16:31

Well that was fun.... Blush all positive without actually saying anything definite - cervix has moved to the front, dropped down and was soft enough for her to "massage" but not dilated. She booked me in for another next week "just in case"Shock but also prescribed lots of sex, chocolate, chips and things that make me feel relaxed and happy! Grin so DP and I took a walk back home along the seafront and ate ice cream. Waves of pain still coming but not v strong yet..... Fingers x

MyNameIsSuz · 16/03/2016 17:13

Ooh bump that sounds promising!

Not sure foodie, but I didn't want to take my chances!

So... I may not have my baby yet, but thought you all might appreciate this picture of my first idiot baby making the most of it while she's sick. Like, cheers cat, I definitely wanted to wash all that again tomorrow.

marmiteandcheeseplease · 16/03/2016 17:42

Aw suz your cat is mega cute! I've got a black cat too that looks just like yours Grin

Still nothing here /sigh/. Went for a half an hour walk early and did get increased BH when I got back but body definitely taking its sweet time! Feel like I just got my hopes up for nothing Confused

Wow military operation or what beaut wish I could be as organised as that- have no idea how well cope with just the one nursery run with DD1 when DD2 finally turns up (and I don't even have to do it as DP drops her off on the way to work)!

bump that definitely sounds promising! Fx for you

hayleycookie · 16/03/2016 18:12

Q Have they spoken to you about what will happen? Usually they monitor you for a whileostomy when you first go in and examine you. Then they give you either a gel or pessary and let it work for 4 hours (I think it's 4) and check you regularly then they give you another lot after 4 hours if it hasn't worked and check your progress. You can usually walk about between checks too. Then if neither of those set you off they will either break your waters or set you on a drop (order depends on the practice of the hospital). If they break your waters they give you I think 3 hours for contractions to start and then if they don't will hook you up to the drip.

I think several of us have been induced so if you have any questions now is the time to ask before you go in lol I was induced with ds1 and it really wasn't bad at all

OP posts:
hayleycookie · 16/03/2016 18:26

Ahhhh those typos!! What the heck is a "whileostomy" haha!

OP posts:
QforCucumber · 16/03/2016 18:42

Haha I did wonder hayley wasn't sure if it was some new terminology I wasn't sure on Smile
Friend was induced 3 months ago at the same hospital so have asked her for their processes, midwife didn't give me much info other than to phone at 7am and get a time to go in. Apparently at our hospital they leave you for 6 hours - very annoying, we live spitting distance from the hospital so wonder if they'd let me go home?!

QforCucumber · 16/03/2016 18:42

suz I love that picture, poorly kitty bless her.
One of ours has been sneezing today so I've been following him round the house offering hugs - dp thinks I'm mental Grin

docmcstuffins1 · 16/03/2016 19:50

Q looks like we're induction buddies tomorrow! From what I've been told they examine you, give you the gel/pessary and then monitor baby/you for a bit (an hour I think). After that you may be allowed to go home or walk about (depending on their policy) before they assess you after 6 hours. They repeat this 2 or 3 times (again depending on their policy) before breaking waters or starting the drip.

Despite knowing the above, I still feel like I don't really know what to expect, and have heard mixed reviews as to what it's like so planning to go with the flow!

nixxxy · 16/03/2016 20:07

Q Hope everything goes well for you tomorrow!
vroc And good luck for Friday. I have to go in for another BP check then too and I'm wondering if they'll offer to induce next week!

My community midwife (who I'm liking less and less) knocked me up and out of bed just before 9am yesterday (I'd already been up at 06:30 w/DH and she didn't give me a quick call to say she was on her way which other community midwives have done in the past...) then proceeded to take my BP and do a urine check. BP was (unsurprisingly since I'd been jolted awake and waddled up and downstairs a few times to get dressed/provide wee) up, so DH and I spent all of yesterday in the Mat Assessment Unit. They checked my BP very regularly and it was completely normal - usually between 120/130 and 80/90 lower end. My urine sample didn't show any protein - but I still spent 5 hours in there waiting to speak to a doctor about my 'plan.' Luckily the midwife that was looking after me was lovely and made the whole thing less stressful and annoying.

She did an internal on me at the doctor's request (I assume to check if an induction could be done...) and told me my cervix is still posterior and "medium squishyness" only a teeny tiny bit open.

I also had some third year trainee doctors come in and have a feel of my pregnant belly with their consultant teacher (I agreed to break up the day tbh)

After hooouursssss the doctor managed to see me (he'd been in theatre and spoken to a consultant in the meantime which was fair enough!) and told me it's just gestational hypertension, they could induce me if I agreed to it and I explained I'd like to wait a little longer but I'm happy to come in regularly to have BP/urine checked. He agreed with no argument/was very nice etc then we were allowed to go home. Thank God.

Hopefully I won't have another run through of this on Friday!

Today I've had some serious fanny daggers and pressure down below - I'm hoping for a nice spontaneous labour, might have to try and encourage it on a little bit with help from DH later...

Ohwoolballs · 16/03/2016 20:12

Hello everyone, I've just gotten caught up on the thread, fantastic to see so many baby pictures! Sympathies to those who are now in the overdue club - even though I am only 38+5 I don't feel at all laboury and will probably have the last of the March babies 😩 Went on a mile walk today and it only gave me a backache (though the village shop now sells Haagen Dazs ice creams- it was like a posher Magnum!)
Even the foof daggers have gone away. Haven't had much to say recently 😐 I'll go back to lurking!

IndomitabIe · 16/03/2016 20:12

Evening all,
Sorry to hear about the MIL woe. All our rellies are hours away! Grin has its benefits and drawbacks! Although, I've given my mum & sis the green light to head down here whenever they like. But they're well trained and will entertain DS!

magpie, pretty sure my waters haven't gone. They didn't until after several hours of labour last time, so I'm not expecting it to happen unannounced. (Though with the coughing and the pressure when I wee, I'm amazed they haven't yet).

Aargh, Beaut, the school run fear has started to get me, but I only have one to get ready, and I haven't even had a baby yet!

Ahh, congratulations purple! Sorry to hear it's been a long mission to get here.

Oh, Suz! Love the cat in the crib pic! Meany that I am, I've put foil in the crib to deter the cat!

Good luck to all the inductioneers, tomorrow.

I've made it through the crucial time at work. If necessary tomorrow and Friday can be covered, as can next week's lessons. Just a couple of bits of marking with acute priority left. Then anything else is a bonus.

Feel incredibly un-twingey though. Feel like I could be this pregnant forever. In fact, I'm starting to get used to this weird body! What if I've hallucinated this whole thing? What if it's all a delusion?!

BumpPower · 16/03/2016 20:33

indom you are a hero to all those kids! Well done you! Totally know what you mean about worrying it's all a delusion! A few weeks ago I started getting all the baby stuff washed and read and felt really real...now less so!!
Pains have ebbed. Am gutted but I've not given up hope yet - I've dug out the breast pump, am eating chocolate and may jump on DP if things get desperate Grin

IndomitabIe · 16/03/2016 20:59

Blush, oh Bump! I'm only doing it to maximise my maternity pay!

Shame your contractions have stopped.

Who mentioned the nipple & fanny compresses? I popped into "Big Boots" this evening and they had them in stock. Not cheap, but I figure worth it on the off chance they help.

I asked about TENS hire, but apparently you can only do it online, and there's a big chance I've left it too late now.

Has anyone already with a baby used a TENS? I'm not sure of the efficacy. Is it worth it?

BumpPower · 16/03/2016 21:12

Blimey - what do you do with a fanny compress?
