Hiya all,

Well finally gave in and bought a 'rocker'! I think that's almost the final taboo broken - how could I have been so naive?

It's very easy before the birth to say: no dummies, no formula, no props for getting them to sleep, no co-sleeping etc. etc. etc. I think the only one I've not failed miserably on is that my LO still sleeps in the same room as me, - but we have plans to change that as soon as DH has built the cot!

Oh what a bad mummy I am and as a good friend of mine recently told me 'A mother's place is in the wrong!'

Hope you're all doing well. Ross has red marks on one of his eyelids, and at the back of his neck. HV says the one on his eyelid will fade, but not the one on his neck. They look the same to me.......... He also has some spots, but not badly - even so, - with all his defects he IS perfect, as I'm sure are all of your LOs.

It isn't bad enough for me to contact any of the birth trauma associations or anything and actually I had a reasonable experience, - but is anyone else out there still not quite over the birth!

hi everyone!!

i've had a miserable week with the flu but feeling much better now

had ryan weighed today, 10lb 10oz.. shall have to start calling him porky pig! he's 5 weeks old tomorrow. gonna have to put him in 3-6 month babygrows very soon, which does'nt seem right, but he is sooooo long his little toes are getting scrunched up! hv was very suprised that he's manging to hold his own head up already and we're getting lots of lovely smiles!

bethbe, very much not over the birth as yet.. i'm going to see someone at the maternity unit so they can explain a few things for me.. i don't remember much, but dp is very angry and feels they messed up

Debbsyandson · 10/01/2007 19:23

bethbe which rocker did you buy

Kif · 10/01/2007 19:35

Qiuck hello to you guys! Good to hear how you're getting on. the good sleepers. Our best is 7.30-11.30

podglet · 10/01/2007 19:58

Thanks everyone - you've made me feel lots better about it xx

stacey, that's a good idea, think i will borrow the "special spot" idea

Hattie05 · 11/01/2007 01:00

Hi everyone! Things are going well here. dd2 is 7wks now and 11lb 10oz. I'm beginning to think that HV's just give a surprised reaction to everything! It seems that many babies on here can all hold their heads up and are putting weight on rapidly, both mine have also- so why do hv's continue to be amazed each time???

Anyway dd2 is a porker giving us some wonderful gummy grins and sleeping the rest of the time! DD1 is behaving brilliantly, really taking her new role very seriously i wonder if she'll feel the same once her little sister is moving about and pinching her toys!

staceym11 · 11/01/2007 08:07

thats fine podglet, it is a special mark just for your little boy, we saw plastic surgeons etc with dds (coz the doc was more worried than us) and they said if it hadnt gone by the time she was 7 they'd laser it, but as i say, shes 2 and its very very nearly gone, she forgets where it is sometimes!

well got another hv visit for the PND today, not really sure what for, got my psychiatrist tomo and had a visit from a lady from home-start, who was brilliant, and the woman from the yung parents group is coming on mon, not sure why the Hv insists on seeing me!

Good morning everyone

Everything still going strong here, I know I keep saying it but he really is such an easy baby (I can answer honestly and truthfully to all of the 'is he an easy baby?' questions!!) Still the only time we hear a cry is when he is hungry, lots of lovely babling and huffing going on inbetween though He had a bit of a growth spurt night before last, I was literally up all night with him feeding, which reminded me of just how badly night times were with DS1! But he is back to just one feed over night again now, thank god, I thought my nipples were going to fall off before!! LOL

I can't believe he is 5 weeks old today, it seems like yesterday we were at the hospital! I have put the birthing pool up for sale on eBay, I think that will be a bit of a heart rencher to see it go without it having been used for what it was meant for, but I suppose hospital was the best place for us at the time. As for 'birth trauma' aside from the fact that we didn't make the home birth I am completely over it, I can honestly say I loved every second of it!! I suppose it helps when it is all over in a couple of hours though!!

Bethbe, try not to beat yourself up about doing things you said you wouldn't, no one can ever imagine having a baby until they have one, and the things that are there to help like dummies and rockers should be used if needs be, we have managed to keep away from the dummies but he does sleep in his rocker, I spent the first year of DS1's life trying to get him to sleep on his back in his cot which he absolutely hated, we now have a nearly 5 year old who is a terrible sleeper, George on the other hand sleeps on his side in his rocker or his travel cot and I have a baby who does actually sleep! Up to a point, I say whatever makes life easier, why make it any harder?!!

Is anyone else finding that nappies aren't lasting very long? I mean the size of them? We started with pampers new baby no 1's, almost straight away he was in the no. 2's and then a couple of weeks ago he went to the number 3's, now they are getting too small, but the next size up isn't the 'new baby' ones, are they still going to soak up the lovely baby poo? I remember DS1 going through the sizes quickly but not as quick as George has.

Right washing is calling, I remember asking on here once if anyone ever had an empty washing basket, now I am asking if anyone has ever got back down to just having the laundry basket full and not over flowing all over the floor!!! xxx

Debbsyandson · 11/01/2007 11:21

if anyone is interested i ve posted a picture of my beautiful ds in member profiles

fatbetty · 11/01/2007 14:25

Just popped in while I had a moment. Have only caught up the last few postings. Hope you all are well and haven't blown away!

Stacey, I had PND with DS1 and DS2 and my HV used to come and just talk for an hour or so about whatever. I found it more uncomfortable as she wanted me to talk about myself and my feelings - which was strange as I was so used to talking about the kids, hubbie, home, etc - but never about me! Glad to hear that they are trying to help out. If you would like to meet up sometime let me know as I'm just around the corner from you in Reigate (I think you said that you were in Redhill before).

Trying to sort out my house at the moment, but don't know where to start!! I can't keep a thought straight and find myself bouncing from one thing to another and getting nothing done!

NatalieJane · 11/01/2007 14:38

So is anyone else planning the next baby?

fatbetty · 11/01/2007 14:46

I wouldn't mind having another one - but dh thinks we should stop at 3. Maybe he'll change his mind....

NatalieJane · 11/01/2007 14:50

So I'm not the only mad one out here then!!

Do you find 3 a lot harder than 2?

fatbetty · 11/01/2007 15:00

The first day or two on my own with the three of them was very chaotic as I really wasn't prepared after having loads of help from in-laws and my mother. But DS1 and DS2 are very good friends and play nicely together while I'm with DD3. I even managed to take all three of them to the grocery store last night and it went really well! I just told DS1 and DS2 what was going to happen when we were in the store (ie. DS2 was going to sit in the trolley with DD3 and DS1 was going to help me shop for food), and if they were good then I would get them a treat.

It must be going well though if I want to have another one so soon! I'm very happy with our family size, but just feel like something is missing - if you know what I mean!

NatalieJane · 11/01/2007 15:13

See you are in a different league to me, DS1 is nearly 5, so is at school full time, and because he is older he does understand (up to a point!) that if I ask him to sit and play quietly, or if I can't get him a drink that second then I am too busy with DS2 and will get his drink (or whatever) as soon as I can, that is different to having three at home full time.

staceym11 · 11/01/2007 17:47

fatbetty meeting up would be brill but i dont drive so getting anywhere is a bit of a mission!! yeah we'r in redhill so not really that far!

well keiran has finally started eating again, after his jabs, poor little mite, every little thing seems to upset his tummy! still puts on weight like a trooper tho even if to me it seems like he hardly eats!!

must go, a lot of wiggling going on behind me. oh and i just got dd down for a nap!!! i know i know its late, but daddys working late and so dinner will be late and she didnt sleep earlier, maybe she'll sleep straight through and have a big breakfast

Lovely pics mygirl! How do you create the link....I'm sure this has already been discussed but I missed it.

Stacey, not a problem to meet you somewhere. I'm occasionally am in Redhill. We could meet somewhere that is easy for you. Do you go to any playgroups? Maybe we could meet up there or we could meet up somewhere and have coffee. My email is mhoyland at hotmail dot com if you want to drop me a line about arranging something.

NatalieJane · 12/01/2007 09:50

Mygirl - lovely pictures, especially the one of them all together, the big sisters look so proud! I think new baby do absorb it quite well but to be fair his poo really is just liquid with yellow bits in it LOL Sorry! LOL

I will get DH on the case about the pictures, he says he knows how to reduce the size of them, but I keep forgetting to ask him to actually do it for me!

How bad is it that even though I have my own one at home, pictures of other peoples babies really make me want a third??!!! I don't think this feeling of wanting another is going to go away.... just not sure I could cope with another pregnancy turning out the way the last one did.
