Hi shhhh. Not long for you until you have another one then! I hope it all goes well for you!
We had alot of fun over Christmas, dd had lots of toys and pretty clothes. Favourite toys are Thomas Aqua Draw, Little Touch Leap pad and Gruffalos Child Book. She's been very excited by the lights and 'pretties' as she calls them. I haven't heard anything from my HV about dd's 18mth check but I know they don't always do them here unless you're concerned, I think dd is fine, we counted up the other day and she's got over 200 words now, I thought she was a chatterbox but couldn't believe its that many. I don't think much of my HV anyway, last time I was there she had a go at me as I said we were only planning to have dd, we're happy as we are and don't want anymore (there are also financial and childcare reasons too - but thats none of her business and we are happy and so's dd!) Anyway she said dd needed aanother to run around with and implied I was selfish not having anymore - how dare she I was so ! dd has lots of cousins around her age (1, 3, 3 & 6 - 2 families) and another due in April and goes swimming sessions and toddler group weekly and has friends we meet at the park, it just makes me angry when people say I should have more. I'm all for people having more if they want them but think its up to everyone to choose. My poor sister is getting agro from family and others as she's expecing her 3rd, she's got a dd and a ds and people can't understand why she wants another when she has one of each. Societies attitude that everyone should have two and they should be one of each just bugs me - sorry for the rant, needed to get it off my chest!
Anyone making any new years resolutions? Aswell as the usual one of loosing weight, I'm going to try and be more careful with money and have lots of fun with dd (the latter one shouldn't be to taxing!)

Hi everyone and Happy New Year to all
Wasn't Christmas just fantastic with all our may 05 toddlers. DD has fallen totally and deeply in love with Santa (spoken in hushed and reverent tones). She sleeps with a cuddly santa that she abducted from tesco on Christmas Eve, and hugs the leftover wrapping paper with his picture on. It really is hilarious, but I'm not sure how she is going to cope when he disappears.

Maddison · 04/01/2007 21:53

Happy New Year everyone

Northstar, I totally agree, Christmas was so much better than the last, DS1 squealed with delight at the sight of his presents (and actually wanted to count them before he opened them lol) and DS2 just ripped everything open!! He also got the Thomas Aqua Draw which he loves, but even more than that he loves Thomas the Tank Engine Annual 2007 which some friends bought him!! We also have The Gruffalo and The Gruffalos Child and everybody in this house loves them - LittleB, if your DD really likes these books, there's one called Room on the Broom by the same author, that is also a hit here.

We had a bit of a catastrophe yesterday morning, I totally forgot that I'd left a tub of Sudocrem in the DS's bedroom and let them play in there while I pottered around for 10 minutes. When I went back upstairs, DS2's hair was white, when I got closer I realised that yep, it was the Sudocrem - 3/4 of a tub to be precise I tried all sorts to wash it out and had to resort to washing up liquid That'll teach me...

northstar · 12/01/2007 21:25

Hi, I'm just bumping here as we were so far down the list! DD had her first haircut today, she was really good, sat up on the chair and STAYED STILL! I was amazed. The hairdresser didn't charge me, and gave me a special envelope with a curl in it, and her name and the date.
When I told dp he said that they didn't charge because they would make thousands from her over the years!!!!

LittleB · 17/01/2007 13:59

How nice of them Northstar - dd doesn't have enough hair for a cut yet! Has anyone else thought about changing from a cot to bed yet? I was going to leave dd in her cot for ages yet but she's started rattling the side of her cot in the night and making a racket so thought I might try a bed soon. Thought I'd try potty training in the summer - anyone else thought about that yet? I can't wait until the summer when the weather is better - it'll be great to be able to play in the park again!

northstar · 19/01/2007 09:46

Oh littleB I am dreading the move from cot to bed. DD is such a handful that I love knowing exactly where she is. I can't imagine how I am going to get her to stay in a bed.

Tiggerish · 20/01/2007 11:24

It was at about this age that our ds started to climb out of his cot. We took the side off and put one of those rails on that folds down. So, he could get out but not fall out iykwim.

At the same time we moved the stair gate to his bedroom door. Mainly so that if he got out of bed he wouldn't fall down the stairs but it was really good at giving him the message that once in his room he had to stay there. It only took a few nights to teach him the new "rules".

Thankfully dd has yet to show any interest in this direction She is really talking now though. It's so cute and she is so much less frustrated now she can communicate properly .

northstar · 20/01/2007 20:35

Tiggerish, the talking is just hilarious in our house. dd wont call ds by his name, only "bruvva". Tonight she banged the wall so hard that 2 photos fell off their hooks above her and smashed to the ground. One was a picture of ds and she just stood there surrounded by chaos and said really seriously "bruvva fall down bad".
And she told everyone in Tescos ooooooooooh it wiiiiiiiindy .......feeeeezing and wiiiiiiiiindy.

Maddison · 21/01/2007 13:45

We moved DS2 into a bed a couple of months ago and tbh it wasn't as bad as I'd been expecting, since he had also changed rooms to share with DS1. He had climbed out of the cot on it's lowest setting and decided he would be safer in a bed than in his cot.

DS2 is also starting to say more words now, thank god, and I agree, he seems less frustrated now. I'm still having trouble trying to keep his glasses on though, the only time he will religiously wear them is when he's colouring in!

Just found out on Friday that I'm pregnant - about 6 weeks - and I'm terrified!! I can't imagine what it's going to be like with a new baby and very high maintenance DS2 but I suppose I'm just going to have to plod on as best as I can!! He'll be 2.3 years when the baby is due, so hopefully he will have calmed down a bit by then

Tiggerish · 21/01/2007 16:47

Hey Maddison - Congratulations!! (and great respect - I'm not brave enough to go for another!!) How old is your ds1? (sorry can't remember

North Star - just love the "Bruvva fall down bad" You just have to laugh don't you. dd is a proper little actress too and says everything with great Expression and always looks for the reaction

I remember with ds thinking that every stage he went through was better than the previous one - dd is doing exactly the same and just gets more adorable every day. Just as you think it can't get any better, it does

Maddison · 21/01/2007 22:57

Hi Tiggerish, DS1 will be 6 on Tuesday I can't believe how fast the time has gone! And as for being brave.. I'm absolutely sh*tting myself

northstar · 23/01/2007 15:36

Congratulations Madison, and another pat on the back for being brave enough to go from 2 to 3 lo's. I'm not. I am justifying it with the fact that I will be 40 this year and too tired to have 3, but at the same time I really wish I had started earlier and had half a dozen. Wishing you a lovely easy pregnancy and another beautiful lo
We are all lucky to be at this stage with our May babies, they all seem to be so entertaining and funny. And very loveable too!
I wonder how all our original group are getting on?

northstar · 03/02/2007 13:55

bumping so we don't get lost!

LittleB · 10/02/2007 08:43

I'm thinking about moving dd to a bed soon - I always thought she wouldn't be able to climb out as she's stuck in her grobags - she can now undo her grobags! Any useful tips?
Has anyone started potty training yet - dd is showing early signs - telling me when she's having a wee and poo and asking to sit on the loo, although she hasn't done anything on it yet - I still think its a bit early though- -I'm hoping to try in the summer.
Do you think it gets more and more fun with them as they get older? Dd sings now - its so sweet - I love listening to her sing - she deos it in the car alot and she makes things up as she goes along - Old macdonald had a Thomas the other day (Thomas the Tank engine)!

northstar · 10/02/2007 10:40

Hi LittleB, dd is just the very same!!! I am thinking of moving her to a bed, but because she shares a bedroom with ds it is going to be chaos for a while so I keep postponing the inevitable!
She also has an older cousin who is toilet training atm so keeps insisting on sitting on the loo. She copies ds too, standing naked infront of the toilet and pushing out her little tummy. It is hilarious because she hasn't realised that she has no winkie

northstar · 10/02/2007 10:43

Has everyone seen Shhhs' Birth announcement? Congratulations Shhhh and family.

Maddison · 10/02/2007 14:22

Hi everyone, yeah i saw Shhh's birth announcement earlier and added a message. Hope she and lo both feel better soon, sounds like she had a rough time of it.

I'm putting off potty training for a while, mainly because DS2 doesn't EVER let me know when he needs to do anything, he just does it and still doesn't tell me!! I also don't want to stress either of us out by trying to do it too early. My niece, on the other hand, is fully toilet trained during the day, and she's only 6 weeks older than DS2!!!

DS2 shares a room with DS1 (bunk beds too) and I just try to get DS2 to sleep first before DS1 goes up. it usually works out ok, but even on the odd occasion when they go up together, it's not that bad. hth

Tiggerish · 19/02/2007 21:00

Congratulations from us too Shhh

DD has the pox

Really mixed feelings about this one - I'm glad she has it so it's over and done with, but I really hope she isn't too poorly with it. She was sooo grumpy this evening, but still ate a good dinner! Dh is able to work from home most of this week so will get the brunt of it (although I don't know how much work he'll actually get done) I'll be with her on Friday when (hopefully) she'll be over the worst.

Why couldn't she have got it last week when I was off for half term??

Maddison · 21/02/2007 21:51

Aw, sorry to hear about dd Tiggerish, hope she's better soon. i know what you mean when you say you're glad she has it now - ds1 had it when he was 14 months old (actually it was the weekend dh & I got married!! - good timing eh!!) and I would rather ds2 had it when still little.

Tiggerish · 22/02/2007 20:33

Thanks maddison. Annoying thing is she is fine in herself - just looks like a pepperoni pizza! She has to be off nursery until Monday and my work are forcing me to take unpaid leave to look after her. I am so cos I was quite prepared to work from home doing general stuff for the department which won't otherwise get done.
Still, I am really determined to have a fun day tomorrow with her and work can sod off

Maddison · 24/02/2007 12:44

DS1 was the same once the spots came - if he didn't have the spots you'd never know he was ill!!

As for work forcing you to take unpaid leave - I thought they couldn't do that. Isn't there something in the flexible working hours reg to allow for instances like this?? Makes my blood boil. I'm on your behalf! Anyway, I hope you had a lovely day with her

runnyhabbit · 24/02/2007 20:34

Hi everyone

Can I join in? My ds was born 4th May 05, and we've got another lo due on 10th April.

Ds had "the pox" last October, and agree that if it wasn't for the spots, you wouldn't have known he was ill. Although he did have 2 really bad nights where he was so restless, so wouldn't let anyone else sleep either. We found that putting a bit of bicarb of soda in the bath helped to dry the spots up quicker.

Bit annoying about your work though - I thought they had to give you option of taking it unpaid, working the time back, or taking it from your annual leave? (mind you, if they're anything like my work, they seem to have their own set of rules )

Tiggerish · 24/02/2007 21:43

Hi runnyhabbit - welcome!! and congratulations on the (almost) imminent arrival. There are several on this thread who are expecting again and Shhh has recently had another lo.

Because I am a teacher the allowances given for time off for dependents is a bit different because you can't take holiday or make up time during the term. imo though the school are being really petty. I could have easily done some worthwhile work from home for the day.

Anyway, I had a great day off with dd (nice to have just her for a change!) and we spent a good couple of hours in town shopping, having coffee and playing in ELC

northstar · 05/03/2007 11:42

Hi Runnyhabbit (you make me think of a wet nun) welcome My dd was born on may 4th as well.
So, have to tell you all dd has her first crush! She is in love with DAVE (Benson-Philips) from ds's Fun Song Factory collection. She is able to pick out and play whatever video he is in, and stands swaying with her hand on her hip and her head to one side. She says "I love Dave". Dp is jealous lol.

OonaghBhuna · 05/03/2007 21:07

Hello just wondering if I can join this thread? Dd1 was born on the 11 May 2005 and DD2 was born on the 27th Dec 2006!!! Almost 10 weeks ago! DD1 has been coping well with the major changes in her life although she can get very grumpy with me especailly when I am BF. She was very clingy today and needed lots of cuddles.
