Will cone back and read/ post properly later but but just wondering if anyone has any solutions for leaking from the opposite boob during feeds? It's going through the breast pads and needing changes of clothes not to mention trying to cover the wet patches when out!

HandbagFan · 24/03/2016 17:33

cudby have you seen these...?

Medela Breastmilk Collection Shells www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000WHL2RQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_dsc9wb0GF2H94

I don't have them myself but saw a lady using them today and she caught quite a lot and then put it in a bottle to use.

HandbagFan · 24/03/2016 17:34

Also, which pads are you using? I'm using lansinoh and they've not leaked for me. Without them I get a small stream down my waist!

MaryEllen1 · 24/03/2016 18:08

Not been on for a while, just trying to catch up with all the posts, welcome to all the new posters

haq I have a next to me crib and love it but have had it since DS was born. My bro and SIL have one and their DS is just out of it at 6 months so they don't last long, it's whether you want to spend the cash may be worth it if it means better sleep! Second hand may be a good option but not sure if you can get new mattresses for them separately.

my LO is 4 weeks old today and the time has flown by, his skin has started to peel on his hands and feet anyone else's LO have this? Been told to use olive oil to help it.

clarabellski · 24/03/2016 18:29

Hi Mary Ellen. We have a peely one here (he was 2 weeks late so was very peely particularly hands, feet and face!). It is dying down a bit now. We were using olive oil and switched to some grapeseed oil we already had in cupboard as slightly less of a smell to it, but they do same thing. No need to buy fancy creams. Vaseline a good idea if your lo starts to peel on the face and you going outdoors as provides a protective barrier.

Our ds also had a lot of milk spots but these too are clearing up and his face is starting to look like a lovely baby face rather than the newborn way.

monkerina · 24/03/2016 19:14

DS has been really peely too, he was born at 41 weeks- different midwives suggested olive oil, coconut oil, e45 cream... then the HV said not to use anything and just be patient. It pretty much sorted itself out and he's not looking too scaly any more at 4 weeks Smile

Are milk spots the same as baby acne? DS looks like a plague victim at the moment, can't wait for it to go!

haquoi123 · 24/03/2016 20:11

cud the amount of times I've forgotten to put my pad back in after switching boobs or been feeding naked and had to scramble to catch the let down on the other breast... Some people say to express while bubs is feeding to make use of it. I use bamboo washable breast pads (little lamb) which hold it pretty well unless I haven't fed for a while. Those things handbag suggested look good too.

My bubs peeled as well - we mainly left it but just used coconut oil in the bath (no sosp). He also got the milk spots which have thankfully cleared now! Apparently babies shed a layer of skin after birth.

clara the breast pump arrived today, thank you! I'll give it a try tonight :)

haquoi123 · 24/03/2016 20:12

And thanks maryellen, I do which Wed invested straight away, but think we might be able to convert the cot bed and see how it goes. Just got to get round to it!

clarabellski · 24/03/2016 20:53

Great stuff haq!

Monk they call it milk spots but it is just baby adapting to hormone changes, nothing to do with milk!

purplepineapples · 24/03/2016 21:18

DS is peely too, has spots and his eyes still haven't cleared up so he looks great! Think we'll need to go back to the docs about his eyes Sad

MaryEllen1 · 24/03/2016 23:40

Thanks everyone you've reassured me about the peeling! Will just ignore it.

purple my LO has a gunky eye, someone on the Facebook group said their doctor said to put a little salt in cooled boiled water and it has helped :)

goldmaple · 25/03/2016 16:48

I haven't posted in forever (6wks to be exact)!

Glad to hear everyone is surviving doing well.

DC3 is big 10lbs at 6wks and is my only child that wasn't jaundice or reflux so I feel like I'm managing well. I think she may have a cold again though...

charlotte I'm glad to hear your baby arrived safely. I have wondered about you.

purple if the eye goop is yellow or green it is bacterial and can spread in an infant quickly. use a clean warm cloth to wipe it away (inside corner to outside, always a different part of cloth) but go to doctor if it is coloured.

I hope everyone gets some rest today!

clumsypots · 25/03/2016 19:44

Arghh going away for the weekend and have no clue what to pack as 2nd caravan we are staying in is band digs so I have no idea what will be there Confused also 1st stop is PIL caravan...why did I agree to this?????

Hope everyone has a lovely Easter weekend planned

purplepineapples · 25/03/2016 21:29

Thanks about the info on the eyes folks.

We got drops 2 wks ago but it still hasn't cleared up! They're gunky, yellow coloured. I hate it! And he can't open his eyes after he's been sleeping because they're crusted together Sad Have been cleaning with water and cotton wool and using the drops. It's marginally better but the doc said should see an improvement after a couple of days but it's now about 2 weeks.

haquoi123 · 25/03/2016 21:32

Best of luck clumsy, hope you have fun!

So I bought two caboo slings with the mind to return one and keep the other after trying them out. Newborn puts spanner in the works by immediately vomiting on the one I'm not so keen on... Moral dilemma? Confused

haquoi123 · 25/03/2016 21:33

X post purple sorry. Have you talked to Dr or hv since?

clumsypots · 25/03/2016 22:38

Oh no purple I would take him back to docs. I just used cooled boiled water with DD when she got gunky.
haq not sure it will be fun....lots of travelling and PILS

Troika · 26/03/2016 07:49

Haquoi if it is the same avent pump I have I find it much more comfortable to use if the rubbery insert bit is slightly damp, either from the steriliser or I pour a bit of boiled water on and give a shake before assembling. Got that tip years ago when there was a thread about it feeling pinchy.

Dd is less peely now but her acne is terrible, never had such a spotty baby before.

She hadn't pooed since 5 pm thurs (normally still on loads of poos a day) so we were starting to worry about her discomfort but then at 1030 last night she did a three nappy poo. It was huge! She still slept for a nearly 4 hour stretch afterwards, in her cot too so pretty happy with that!

Troika · 26/03/2016 07:50

Purple poor baby with his eye. Could be worth returning to gp

clarabellski · 26/03/2016 18:20

Shock three nappy poo!!!

What dreich weather for Easter! Also cross that we are getting an hour stolen from us tonight when sleep is hard enough come by with the night feeds!!!

In better news, we have had a relatively relaxing day. The wee man gave us a lie in until 9am! And has also had a good long afternoon nap permitting me a long soak in the bath and overdue leg shave! He is currently furiously rooting in his sleep so I had better go wake him for a change and a feed...then we are getting a Chinese takeaway for dinner. Bliss!

clumsypots · 26/03/2016 19:39

I am very impressed with the 3 nappy poo! Well done baby troika!

I am currently sat in a caravan in Wales listening to wind howling and rain beating down...glad I am not in a tent! currently debating whether I am going to get any sleep at all tonight with the weather and DS Easter Sad

haquoi123 · 27/03/2016 11:50

troika thanks for the tip! The pump is working out great so far clara, thanks.

3 nappy poo! Now that is backed up! DH did a change just before heading out to work the other day that went through two nappies and then as he was lifting bubs' legs up his bum sprayed all over his shirt. Cue shirt change and hysterics from me when the story was relayed to me later.

Ooh clara, bath and Chinese, what a good idea :)

clumsy that sounds rotten! how're you doing now?

I've finally succumbed to the cold that's been threatening me for weeks, just in time for my birthday tomorrow Angry I've got all my home made remedies out in force: garlic and honey, lemon and honey tea, multi vitamins, paracetamol and going to steam later. I cannot be ill! The only benefit is that DH did all the waking last night apart from giving bubs to me to feed and I feel nice and rested. Blergh otherwise. Bubs is starting to get a chesty cough but nose seems fine so far, fx!

NorthernChinchilla · 27/03/2016 13:22

DD has come down with my cold...the snot on my boobs! the bogies! the snorting! Oh, the glamour....Grin

Leaky here too- the bedding and mattress cops for the worst for obvious reasons. DD also likes to deposit her last mouthful of each feed over me Hmm

Purple, not sure how you're feeding but if bf, a few drops of that is meant to be good. But absolutely go back to GP.

That sounds like the start to a British sitcom clumsy, not fun at all! How else to spend the Easter weekend in Storm Katie....really hope you've got some treats planned for your return.

purplepineapples · 27/03/2016 18:55

DS2's eyes have been so much better the past day or 2, since we stopped using the drops and just cleaning Hmm will see if it continues.

DS1 has had a stomach bug Sad Went through to get him on Friday morning and he had been sick in his bed during the night and then yesterday was the other end. I can't believe our rotten luck lately with illness. I really hope neither me or the baby have caught it. So I had to cancel the visitors yesterday and our plans for today and DP and i have spent the day taking it in turns to sleep Grin

Hopefully next week will be better!

clumsypots · 27/03/2016 22:03

I am now sat in caravan number 2 on my own with ds in the wind and rain after a 4 hour drive and the TV doesn't work in this one. Bedrooms also do not have space to put ds 's cot big living space so am going to do some mattress dragging and sleep on the floor. Plus I am starving but don't want to drag ds out in the rain to find food Sad Wow what a fabulous Easter!

Sorry to hear about all the poorliness, I hope everyone is feeling better soon!
