Handbag, also don't have all the answers but I have a boy. We're using reusable terry squares and haven't had many spills (about 2 and mainly when it hasn't been done properly) with those. Obv not a good short term solution but might be worth looking at. Do you think you're fastening the nappy tight enough to compensate for rolling down? I feel your pain with changing clothes though I always seem to miss catching the 'nappy off' pee...

Last couple of days bubs has been suffering with wind. Started him on the infacol today but are there any other suggestions for trapped wind? Poor child seems in so much pain! He's also feeding non stop so we have a feed, wind, cry, burp /fart/poo, feed again immediately. You'd think he'd be put off!

HandbagFan · 08/03/2016 22:58

Live update - the cord has just come off! Woo hoo! Right at the end of day 16! Everything has been later than expected so far to do with this child!

I'm hoping the nappy I've just put on him might sit better and stop the wee coming out the back... We had a couple of changes without an outfit change being needed today but tonight it happened again. Fingers crossed for me ladies! I'll report back in the morning...

haquoi123 · 09/03/2016 02:40

Shit, fell asleep while breastfeeding bubs lying down, to the extent that I woke up with him in the middle of DH and I, and with my back to him. Oh the other hand he is happy as Larry and sleeping wonderfully...

Great news handbag!

haquoi123 · 09/03/2016 03:32

Is your baby will sleeping through handbag?

NorthernChinchilla · 09/03/2016 09:48

On pee related issues handbag and haquoi, tips we were given:

  • willy pointing down is the most important!
  • keep a muslin to hand when changing. When you open up the nappy, pop it across them- theory is its the pressure and temperature change that makes them wee and the muslin prevents this.
  • Make sure the 'fan' bits round the legs are out and not tucked in.

We're having similar with having a girl this time- nappy changing protocol was the first thing I checked with the MW!

And I'd buy a couple of packs of cheap-ish sleepsuits and keep him in those til it's sorted- easy to change each time!
How's it gone so far without the cord?

Today is DP's first day back at work after three weeks' leave, so just bimbling round the house. Will pop her in the sling and get the paper, think that's as wild as it's going to get today Grin

HandbagFan · 09/03/2016 09:54

Haqoui - not sleeping through, no. But we go to bed about 11-12, and I get up about 3.30 for a change and feed and then DH gets him up at 7ish for another one before he gets ready for work. It's nearly 10 now so he'll be wanting another bottle soon. Not so bad really - I though we'd be up all night every night with a screaming baby but he's really good. Just cries a lot with wind...

MaisieDotes · 09/03/2016 16:05

Congratulations midnight! Smile

clumsypots · 09/03/2016 18:36

Congratulations smash she is beautiful!

I second muslin across the top (or boob bib Wink) when changing.

How was your day northern? Hope it went well.

Had my 6 week check today everything is fine apart from my fingers, got to check with haematology in a couple of weeks of its related to my blood problems if not got to go back to gp for more tests Sad. On the plus side I have now finished injecting myself wahoo!!!! Grin.

Saw hv aswell today ds is now 9lb9oz so she is happy with him.

NorthernChinchilla · 09/03/2016 20:21

Smashley congratulations on both a beautiful girl and for coping with four- wow!

Nice chilled one thanks clumsy- DD conked out in the wrap sling on my walk for the paper/round the block, just like her brother used to, hurrah! And what's the deal with your fingers, sounds painful?

cudbywestrangers · 09/03/2016 21:17

Congratulations smash what a beautiful little girl. And hats off to you with four, I'm finding dealing with two hard work!

Big mothers day hugs haq must have been a very mixed day for you.

Can't really advise handbag i haven't come across wee going up the back although we have poo explosions that do it. Maybe try a different brand of nappy??? We used washables for ds1 from a couple of months and found fewer poo leaks but not much difference for wee. Need to think about digging them out for babycud soon... if i can face the extra washing! Glad cord finally came off , i find it pretty gross. Can't help with the feeding either, although if seems to be able to feed well from the breast and no weight issues i would be tempted to abandon pumping for some feeds.

All fine here but getting pretty fed up of dh's working hours. He's still not home and i'm knackered! And when he is home he us too tired to be much use.

Sorry if i've missed anyone am on phone!

CarrotPuff · 09/03/2016 21:18

Hi everyone, can I join?

DD was born on 28/02, she was due 04/03. She's 10 days old today. I also have a 2.3 yo DS, who is very cute with his baby sister.

So far I'm finding it s million times easier than when I had DS, but ask me again on Monday when DP goes back to work!

clumsypots · 09/03/2016 21:39

Hi carrot congratulations!

northern glad she settled in the sling, my ds loves being in the sling too and it means I have 2 hands to do the washing up! Not really sure what is going on with my fingers, they are very painful when I bend them and then I lose my grip, they were that bad today it took me 5 mins to do ds's poppers up after nappy change.

haquoi123 · 10/03/2016 08:17

Welcome carrot, good to have you join us! Congratulations!

handbag having said about leaks I had two up the back yesterday and this morning, out of the terry squares. That doesn't count the pooplosion that was so massive I was covered in it! It appears I have no answers! We have wind issues as well, started on infacol which seems to be helping.

chinchilla, thanks for the advice! You've saved me from a couple of soakings (he weed first time with muslin but his willy was pushed down so went into the nappy! Woop!)

I've hired a stretchy wrap sling which I love but bubs hates if he's awake. Asleep is Ok but he associates being near my breasts with feeding and goes nuts. He doesn't seem to like the tightness of it either... Will he get used to it or should I try summat different?

clumsy that sounds rough about your hands. I've got something similar but nowhere near as bad. Started up the last couple of weeks of pregnancy and is still lingering... Has the Dr said what they think it might be?

How are babies doing weight gain wise? Bubs was 11lb 7oz on Monday (up from 9lb at birth and he's 4 weeks today) and he's massive! I almost feel sad, he's growing up too soon (as well as feeling grateful as I know lots of people here are having difficulties). Both DH and I are so achy though, he's really hard to carry.

Troika · 10/03/2016 08:31

Haquoi dd is only just back to birthweight at 2 weeks old (7lb4) but I'm still aching after the morning and evening fussy times (weakling)

I have a fast let down which causes her to gulp, click, pull off etc and she then ends up super windy. I had the same with ds and resolved by feeding leaning back but dd won't latch like that, or pulls off when I change position once she's on. Nappies are still yellow rather than green so I don't think there's a fore/hind milk issue, she just swallows a lot of air.

Still struggling with her sleeping in her crib after the first night wake up, we generally get 1.5-3 hours at the beginning of the night but after that she just wants to sleep on me. 2 weeks is still tiny so trying not to stress about it but a couple of times I have come close to her rolling off me as I've dozed off and I don't want to put her in any danger...Annoying thing is she slept brilliantly in 3 hour stretches when we were back in hospital and I was having to wake her, now she's allowed to sleep longer she won't do it!

Troika · 10/03/2016 08:32

Sorry I am really rubbish at reading through properly and responding to people Blush

clumsypots · 10/03/2016 09:23

haq lots of advice I have read about slings say the baby will get used to it so it could be worth persevering for a little while if you find it comfy.

There is a hormone released in pregnancy that continues while you are bfing that relaxes ligaments (the same one that causes spd) so it could be related to that but they want to check my fingers out properly in case it is related to my blood problems and it's quite severe. On the plus side DH had to get up at 5 this morning to change DS as I couldn't trust my fingers so I stayed in bed until he gave him back to me for feeding Grin

cudbywestrangers · 10/03/2016 10:30

Welcome and congratulations carrot

I had never put the clicking and gulping dwn to fast let down but we have that too troika so good to know, thanks! For us the result seems to be overeating then sick, which is making me a bit rubbish at winding and i wonder if that's what makes babycud so miserable at times Blush

Hope your fingers get better soon clumsy glad you're getting some help though

NorthernChinchilla · 10/03/2016 14:13

Hello carrot! Similar set up here, DS who's four and new DDSmile

That sounds really tough cud, very sorry to hear it. Almost sounds like a form of arthritis? Hopefully the tests will reveal what the issue is, and it's either temporary, pregnancy/birth related or they can start treatment.

Glad the tips helped haq, I picked up all sorts from reading MN cover to cover as it were! I'd definitely persevere with the wrap sling for a bit, but given you've got somewhere to hire from there's such a range to try out. We've got the traditional Bjorn as well.

I'll be taking DD to be weighed next week, will be fascinated to see how she's doing. The emergence of a triple chin (yet such a stick like little body!) suggests she's doing OK. She's currently sleeping in the moses which is freaking me out: DS used to react like it was lined with barbed wire!

NorthernChinchilla · 10/03/2016 14:15

Sorry, put cud instead of clumsy up there...

And mawsy, you still there? How're you getting on?

MaisieDotes · 10/03/2016 16:25

Congratulations smashley!! Smile

Welcome carrot!

haq I'm not sure what DS weighs but it's a lot. According to DH's non-scientific weighing method (stand on scales with and without baby, subtract the latter from the former) he is around 13lbs Shock

He was 9lb 9oz at birth and about 10lbs at 3 weeks so I don't know if he possibly can be 13lbs, I kind of hope not. I was feeding him the amount of formula for a 10lb baby (25oz per day) so I've upped it now a bit, but then I'm worried I'm over feeding him and that's why he's growing so much. Argh! I worry about everything.

He has his six-week check up next Tuesday so hopefully they will say all is ok.

IslaMann · 10/03/2016 16:58

DD had her hip scan today. Right hip fine but left hip may be affected, or it may just not have "matured" as well as the right one. DH has congenital hip dysplasia and had lots of ops as a child & has had both hips replaced by the tender age of 42, DBiL also had several ops as a child, DSD & DN both needed double nappies and a brace. DD was also breach, which is an increased risk of dysplasia. The sonographer has said she is to be rescanned in 4weeks, which will reveal if it's the dysplasia, or if was just delayed maturation of that left hip. She doesn't show any signs of pains do I'm not unduly worried, just hoped the scan today would rule it out.

haquoi - DS was 6lb 15 at birth, went to 6lb 13 by day 5 and regained birth weight on day 7. Yesterday (day 17) he was 7lb 11. I thought we were doing well on weight gain but sounds like you've got a strapping lad on your hands! Well done if it's all from he boob too - we're a mixture or expressed and formula milk.

MidnightRun · 10/03/2016 19:01

Hello everyone!!

Dh went back to work on Monday (Dd a tender 4 days so I was thrown in the deep end). Finally having a chance to read through all the posts. Congrats to all the new births!

Dd feeding well after initial breast tenderness and not having enough milk. Nipples are still agony for the first couple of minutes so I express for a couple of feeds a day, she has taken very well to going between teat/nipple thankfully!

reading about sleep patterns and it sounds like dd to a t! She goes down in crib for maybe an hour at night, then wants to sleep on me until feed and change around 3am then will go in crib until about 6. Then feed & change and wants back on my chest. Last night she slept in the crib 1-4ish (I think.. At somepoint she cried and I put her on my chest before she woke me for a feed just before 5) I had been feeling so bad about her sleeping on my chest instead of the crib so I'm so glad to hear it's pretty normal!

She's still got a massive lump on her head from the birth. And I am still in agony down below from stitches.. Although it doesn't sting to pee anymore the bruising has come out! Got brave and took a look at it.. Big mistake!!

birdbrain21 · 11/03/2016 15:53

This dropped off my threads as I read bit rarely post Blush it's taken me a few days to catch up! Hope all previous problems posted have been resolved now will try keep up a bit better and post if I can help people rather then days after the problem off to find a naughty step

clumsypots · 12/03/2016 18:39

bird you can come off the naughty step now Grin I hope you had a nice rest while you were there.

midnight I hope the bruising has gone down a bit now.

isla I hope dds hip is ok at the next scan, keeping my fingers crossed for you.

We had a nice walk round the park today and even managed to play frisbee with dd with ds in the sling it got me out of running and jumping hehe
