Lily don't think that makes you a bad mummy. I have been known to leave a babygrow on if he's peed on it somewhere that isn't touching his skin, especially if it's late. His skin is fine, so I figure it can't be that bad to do

sianihedgehog · 19/10/2015 04:45

I'm with Tindel, I would definitely do the same. Plus, I pretty regularly have to leave DS in stuff with sick on it.

Dozygirl · 19/10/2015 06:35

Not a bad mummy lily. It's only a bit of wee. Will dry quickly.

Re: the swimming discussion ages ago. I've never washed dd after swimming. Just dry her then dress her and hand her to dp so I can dry and dress. It's never harmed her yet. Same at swimming school my friend has taken her 3 boys. Noone there ever showers their babies after the lessons. It never even crossed my mind.

ruby242 · 19/10/2015 07:24

Morning all!
Bit of a rough night for us here after a good one the night before. Tindel I think we had the opposite problem to you-not enough daytime sleep yesterday so think he was really overtired and couldn't settle properly. Also think he had wind in the morning as he was squirming and making noises in his sleep.

FattyNinjaOwl · 19/10/2015 07:34

I had another fab night. Nathan seems to have started sleeping through but I don't want to jinx it! But all 3 of mine are still asleep. Which is highly unusual. They are normally all up by now. I think they may be coming down with something Sad I'm just off to wake DS1 and see what's up with him, then I know if he's going to school or not.

Fanby · 19/10/2015 07:39

Nothing to report except I'm zzzzzz lol - there's a surprise! Hoping this extra feed I'm giving will knock her out and I can grab another hours sleep, I'm feeling doubtful...

Fatty - yeah sainsburys clothes do come up big I think. Someone bought molls a gorgeous sleepsuit from there and I swear it's massive lol

Lily - can your DS have a word with molly about lie ins?? She's been up since 5 laughing and full of joy. I am not a morning person! I think her 2am ish feed is also out of habit now too...
Good luck with the coil!

Slowwife - hope you've managed to get some sleep and rest your nips!!

X

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 19/10/2015 07:49

Mugabe everyone.

So we had a pretty good night in the end. Grumpy 2 finally went down at 11pm and woke at 2:30am and 6am for top ups. Somewhat guttingly she is now spark out in her cot (which she never does at this time of day) and I'm going to have to get her up and ready for the school run rather than be able to have a snooze with her -
Waaah!!

Have no idea re: swimming I'm afraid as I've never taken either girl. Water sports are DHs domain, I would very much doubt he scrubs them after the pool but I may be doing him a disservice Wink

lily totally not a bad Mummy. I rarely change an outfit for a bit of wee. No harm will come of it. Poo is a different matter, but posset and wee are discretionary changes only Smile.

Grumpy 2 has settled on a 9pm
bedtime also clstow it's funny how they all seem to find their natural rhythm. Grumpy 1 was exactly the same and all that happened was that slowly over the course of a few months bedtime moved backwards by intervals until it hit 7:30pm where it then stayed. Nothing to do with us, entirely down to her.

Right, it's school photo day today so need to check what grumpy 1 has chosen to do with her hair...

Tindel · 19/10/2015 07:52

He finally went down at gone 5:30 and is awake and feeding again Confused DH took him to settle so I could get some sleep! Am having people round this morning, glad we tidied the house last night or it would have been horrendous! Just hoping I can stay awake enough...

Thanks for the tip about Sainsbury's clothes, will check them out. DS is getting longer at the moment, mainly in his legs. He still fits his smaller babygros, but feet are squashed in his sleepsuits! Any other recommendations for his body shape?

Fanby · 19/10/2015 08:01

Tindel - cut the feet off the sleepssuits! My friend had to do this as their baby was so long! x

ruby242 · 19/10/2015 08:46

Fatty wow what is your secret to the sleeping through-enjoy! I do hope your little ones aren't unwell though.

Fanby DS seems to think 5am is the perfect time to start the day too-i disagree!!

That's interesting slowwife and clastow as DS seems to like a 9pm bedtime too-but since he seems to wake at 5am no matter what I've been trying to get it earlier so I can have an early night with him and be up for the day at 5

kbro79 · 19/10/2015 08:55

Morning

Hope everyone got some sleep. DS is sleeping v well at night but won't go to bed before midnight. I know I should be grateful for the night sleep but would be good to get him (and us) into bed a bit earlier. Wondering after reading these updates about trying to put him down about 9pm instead of trying and failing at 7pm. Maybe will give that a go.

We had an attempt at project nap yesterday. DS fast a sleep in my arms post feed. Put him in his cot and instantly wide awake eyes. He then smiled at me as if to say "oh mummy, as if am going to sleep here". Tried shushing and patting and some more rocking but nothing. Gave up and went a watched the rugby (booooo Australia) Have decided that am going to give up on day time napping off me for now and concentrate on bed time. For sake of my own stress think am going to tackle just one and will start with bed time. Plus am with you Fanby on enjoying the cuddles (by which I mean an excuse to watch hours of TV)

Speaking of tv, fanby thank you for mentioning Homeland. It had completely passed me by that it had started again. These babies are such a distraction.

Dozy I know exactly what you mean about wondering what might have been with childbirth and seeing how I might have copied with it all. Although it's nice to see a few successful VBACs on here. Pleased you enjoyed a good night out. Does it make me a bad person that I just sacked off going out for someone's bday dinner on grounds that 'can't leave the baby' when really is just that I don't want to go to the dinner? A baby is the best excuse!

Oh and re changing for a bit of wee and vomit I also don't worry if it's not on his skin either. He'd be wearing about 10 outfits a day if I did.

Right am off to watch homes under the hammer. Sorry no I mean tend to my baby's every need.

FattyNinjaOwl · 19/10/2015 08:58

ruby no secret. I've no idea what I've done Confused DS1 didn't sleep through until he was 4. DD slept through from birth. And Nathan sleeps through mostly now. It all depends on the baby.
Well we are all sick Envy

CorBlimeyTrousers · 19/10/2015 09:31

Hello again. I can't keep up!

I've definitely done the 'wee on babygro not next to skin is ok' thing :)

I don't think there is a magic weight when they can sleep through. Sorry.

Thanks for the reassurance that others are rocking or otherwise helping their babies settle. DS2 is still sleeping downstairs in the living room until DH does a dream feed and brings him upstairs (I go to bed early). I think we should start a bedtime routine and putting him in his crib upstairs earlier but DH not sure. Maybe we'll go for it this weekend if I can persuade him.

Thanks everyone for sharing back stories. DH and I live in suburban NW London / Middlesex. Have a DS1 who is 5 years old and at school. And DS2 who is 2 calendar months today. Both born by caesarean (DS2 elective - my choice). DS1 conceived naturally (although it took 3 years TTC) and DS2 was conceived by donor egg IVF after 3 unsuccessful IVF cycles when it became clear it was unlikely we would get pregnant with with my own eggs and we took the plunge to use an egg donor and luckily got pregnant first cycle. As mentioned above I have PND although medication is helping. I had PND after DS1 too so I'm trying to remember that it does get better. This time the PND has mainly manifested as anxiety (particularly about DS2's health) and also feeling like I can't cope. I know they sound like normal feelings with a newborn but if has been extreme.

CorBlimeyTrousers · 19/10/2015 09:33

Oh yes Dozy - well done on a night out!

FattyNinjaOwl · 19/10/2015 09:41

cor Flowers I suffered PND with DD. It's a bastard and you are a Star

As you said it will get better. You are doing great Smile

sianihedgehog · 19/10/2015 10:21

Tindel I have the opposite problem with stuff fitting Fergus - he's SUCH a little fatty, and long in the body. I can hardly get the crotch poppers done up in half his sleepsuits, but the legs are still long. I can't put him in leggings or trousers at all because he's got such a big fat tummy and stumpy wee legs.

loveandsmiles · 19/10/2015 10:42

Too much to catch up on!!

fatty sorry you are all poorly. My toddler DD is unwell - high temperature and feeling miserable - she woke up 2 nights ago crying and burning hot and hasn't left my side since - thankfully others don't seem to have whatever bug it may be and she seems better today.

I decided to start eating more healthily and opened the NutriBullet birthday present - have had endless concoctions of fruits and veggies - making me wee constantly with the added side effect of making DD poo about 5 times a day!!! It's like it comes straight through my breast milk, into her, out the other end and then she needs fed againGrin

Wow to those of you that have been out without babies, had long sleeps etcSmile.

Wishing everyone a lovely day...........

Frolicacid · 19/10/2015 11:23

Good morning and Mugabe to all!

You were a chatty bunch yesterday! So much to catch up on. We had a really nice day. Ds and I had Sunday lunch at my parents with my lovely nieces. Then I took ds to his first proper birthday party! It was a for a work colleague's birthday and everyone bought their kids along. It was lovely to see lots of work friends and meet their kids. Ds was an absolute star. He was passed around everyone for cuddles and loved it. I had a bit of a job feeding him because he was so nosy. He stayed awake for over 2 hours, which is his longest stretch ever. I was expecting an over tired nightmare last night, but he wasn't too bad.

I'm loving reading all your back stories. I can't remember who said, but it was lovely to be reminded that a few of us have been chatting for over a year since the ttc buses. It's great to share this journey with such a lovely bunch.

As for routine / pattern - I think we're getting a bit of a pattern over night with ds. He generally goes down for the night between 11pm and 1am. The few hours before this are usually spent being grumpy and fighting sleep or mega awake, shouty and wanting to play. He'll then sleep for 3-4 hours before half waking for a 5 minute feed and going straight back down. He then sleeps until between 6 and 7am when he wakes for half an hour or so before going back down until about 10-11.
So we're both generally getting a good amount of sleep as I have nothing stopping me laying in in the morning. But, I do wander if we should try and get him to go earlier and wake earlier as it can be tricky if we need to go somewhere early. Maybe the clocks changing will help that.

As for daytime naps, they are very much led by ds. Sometimes long, sometimes short. If we've been out he'll sleep in his pram and that generally leads to a few hours. But I'm not very good at getting him to go down for a nap otherwise, so he sleeps on me a lot. I'm trying not to worry too much about it. Like slo, I'm finding a lot of sense in the 4th trimester thing. I feel that he just needs to be close to me at the moment. (Although it can feel a bit suffocating at times.) we also co-sleep, which I love Smile

Oh my, clstow and siani - why did you tell me about all those lovely leggings from joio, Amazon and e-bay?! I want them all!!

lily I also think there is nothing wrong with a bit of pee or posset as long as it's not touching the skin / soaking. Otherwise ds would be in about 10 outfits a day.

I hope everyone else is ok. Lots of coffe and sympathy for those struggling with lack of sleep. And big high fives to those little ones who are sleeping well. Ds and I are off to lidl to buy stuff to make soup. What a crazy life we lead!
Happy Monday everyone Grin

Fanby · 19/10/2015 11:50

Well turns out molly was awake from 5am due to constipation and my oh my is that cured!! White linen trousers seem to be the answer...her poo went everywhere, up the sides to her belly bottom, all through her expensive vest, obv all over the trousers, in the baby bouncer....she's now asleep on me (obv) and I've managed to watch X factor and now downton abbey in peace....

Kbro - Yep, I'm the same, concentrating on night time! Could be making a rod for my back or whatever people like to say but in all honesty I'll crack the naps when I get sick of the cuddles or when she sleeps through the night (yes this might be never lol!).
Not a bad start to homeland we thought! Haven't seen last nights though yet...

Slow - that is the worst, when they decide to sleep just as you need to go out. Molly has been adding this to her list of party tricks recently....

Fatty - sorry to hear your kiddywinks are poorly. Enjoy the sofa day x and yours too Loveandsmiles, hope she's better asap x

Corblimey - you're doing amazing!!!! Well done you for talking about PND, wishing you all the cake and sleep as sometimes it's the little things that help Smile

mzzzf · 19/10/2015 11:56

Anyone heard from joskar recently?!

Oi Joskar are you still alive or have you become deaded? Likely due to a Jaffa cake Avalanche or the hotpant uti actually winning...

Thanks everyone for the consensus that leaving him in a bit of pee was ok! He certainly didn't seem to mind!

Dozy- after attempting to shower DS on Saturday after swimming I agree with you it won't be happening again! I never updated after we'd been did I! He loved it at first but after 15 minutes was knackered and started screaming! We persevered a little longer and he did ocasionally stop and enjoy it again but in the end tiredness won and I got him out early! That's when the fun began!! Trying to get his little wetsuit off with one hand whilst holding him with the other stood in the shower cubicles was like trying to undress an eel!! All the time he was still screaming becaus he was tired! I literally ran him under he shower for a few seconds (thankfully they were a normal temperature) and then went to get him dressed- opening the locker with him in one hand and trying desperately to drag the bag out that I'd just rammed in was an even bigger nightmare- all the while he was STILL screaming!! I dried him off and dressed him as quick as I could whilst my hair which must still have some dye left in it dripped all over him- little red spots all over his clothes! I ended up ramming his towel on my head which then ended up red too but thankfully has washed out! I then laid him on he bench all snugged up in his cardi and hat as I think he was cold too and wrapped him in my jacket and he was asleep in seconds! Cue a quick dry and dress for me and we almost ran out of there!! Stressful!!!! I don't know what I'll do once he can roll it will be an even bigger nightmare! DH is coming next week thankfully so we be muxh better!

Fatty- boo to the poorly kids but yay for sleeping through! I would kill for DS to drop his 3am feed- DH is doing the whole night tonight for the first time- would be Sod's law if he dropped it tonight!

Fanby- he doesn't lie in usually yesterday was a nice treat! This morning he half went back to sleep but was really noisy so I gave up at 8am but he did let me shower again- granted probably only a 3 minute shower just in case but still!

Must be something in this 9pm business as that's generally DS's most popular time for finally dropping off!

Kbro- I've had a bit of a go at project nap today after he did amazingly yesterday on his own- he got a bit grumpy an hour after he'd been up so I gave dummy and snugged him up in fleecy blanket by his face (I was improvising as usually he has a little comforter that I snuggle next to his face for naps but it was in the car and it was too much effort to get the dogs out and go out to get it) and he fell asleep instantly for 40 minutes! Then woke we played and fed him and he got grumpy again so this time did the same in his bouncy chair and flat out this time for an hour when I needed to go out so somehow managed to transfer him to car seat without him waking- nap lasted 2.5 hours in total! When he got grumpy after all the attention at in laws I again wrapped him in blanket and dummy and snuggled him and again he went to sleep! Must be a magic blanket I'm convinced as he's now on second nap of the day!! I'm most confused he's just kind of done it him self with me giving him the props!

Oh dear to the poonami Fanby we haven't experienced one of those yet but I'm expecting it to happen at a baby group or something or even worse at swimming!

Those of you watching home land I'm with you it's looking like its fling to be a pretty good turn of events! I wasn't so sure how to would turn out when the last series ended the way it did but I'm liking it! Can't think how many episodes we've watched as we are naughty and watch it on a dodgy app- good job really as I never manage to watch a whole program anymore and we got rid of sky so I'm missing the 'pause' option!

Yay man has just arrived to put a hole in the garage to vent the tumble dryer so I can finally use it! Been a nightmare trying to dry the never ending baby washing without it!

Mugabe everyone!!

mzzzf · 19/10/2015 13:13

Lily I totally hear you re the 3am feeds! Your da and mini mzzzf must be synced!!!
Arrrghh back later

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 19/10/2015 13:14

Mugabe guys. Just checking in as been awol for a few days. We decided to visit some friends near Bristol for the weekend on the way back from the in laws which was lovely.

Back home now so have a mound of washing, a stroppy toddler, a whinging baby and a splitting headache to contend with. I though Mondays would be better on mat leave but am quite envious of DH being able to just look after himself and go to work.

I'm afraid I haven't had chance to read all the posts yet but will be reading back as it seems I have missed a lot!

We seem to be falling into a bit of a routine here too. Bedtime around 9pm and then sometimes he wakes for a feed around midnight but sometimes sleeps through it and then wakes around 5.30/6 for another feed and sleeps until DD wakes him up when she gets up. Daytime naps are more hit and miss but are never in the crib!

Oh Fanby, I am with you on the explosive poos! Wear something white and it will cure constipation every time. How can such little people have so much poo in them?!

Fatty, I hope your kids all feel better soon. You must have your hands full!

Frolic, your Sunday sounds lovely and I bet DS charmed everyone at the party.

Love, I too am determined to start the healthy eating regime this week too. Let us know how you get on with the nutribullet. I might ask for one for Christmas.

We're going to the park this afternoon as DD needs to run around and at least I know DS will sleep in his sling.

Enjoy your Mondays.

Fanby · 19/10/2015 13:49

Lily - thanks for sharing your swimming experience - ive picked up loads of tips from it Smile. Very jealous of your tumble drier, I'd love one! We're hoping to put electrics into our shed to put one there!

Hope the fresh air helps that headache nolonger, you certainly sound like you've got your hands full!

Btw - any tips for cradle cap??! X

Lilydreams · 19/10/2015 13:59

Nolonger- I agree how the hell does so much poo come out of such a little person!! DS is always so pleased with himself after he's poo'd too with a look on his face like 'made you a present mummy how funny that you have to clean my bum!'

Tumble dryer in and already on yippee!!

Mzzzf- how do we get them to stop itttt???? Half the time DS only takes about 3 oz anyway! So frustrating!

Fanby- glad my swimming story helped- an extra tip would be to have a treat ready for your self for after- you'll have early it!! Haha! I think DS may have a touch of cradle cap (not sure!) but before I realised it was I picked some of it off as I had done with the dry peely head he had when he was newborn (on the advice of paediatric nurse)! Didn't hurt him and it didn't actually come back in those spots! Mainly though I use olive oil as a moisturiser too on him.
