Baby oil on head, leave over night, comb in the morning.
My local pool has a family change part, with benches and a baby change table with straps so its much easier than trying to hold slippery baby! I don't go very often though as I can't swim.

Frolicacid · 19/10/2015 14:02

I've been wandering about jockstar as well. Do we think she's still in Lidl filling her trolley with all the things we recommended?

Talking of lidl, they have a new Neapolitan swirl in the bakery. I have kindly taste tested on your behalf and can confirm that they are indeed lovely swirls of tomatoey, herby yumness. Thank me later Wink

Ds has been asleep in his pram since we went shopping at 11! Since we got in I've had lunch, made soup and lobscouse and hung the washing to dry. I'm bored now! Considering wakeing him up for cuddles!

fanby, I will definitely remember white trousers as a way to cure constipation if required. We've not had a poonami yet and I hope it stays that way.

Swimming sounds fun and stressful lily! I think I'll take dh when we go.
Project nap sounds like it's going great. I may try the snuggly blanket and dummy approach.

We've not started homelands yet - no spoilers please Grin. Thank you to whoever recommended catastrophe - we watched 3 episodes in a row last night. Funny stuff.

Enjoy the park nolonger. Glad you had a nice time away. It sounds like your ds has cracked night times, clever chap!

Ds has just started stirring so I won't have to wake him after all. It's not very nice hear today do this afternoon will be cuddles, crap tv and a quick walk if frolicdog starts fidgeting.

Lilydreams · 19/10/2015 14:02

Fatty- my pool has 2 change tables but they were already in use, I was in the ladies changing room on the advice of the receptionist because it was Saturday there were loads in the family change already! Might give it a go next week though and see if the facilities in there are any better!

Lilydreams · 19/10/2015 14:08

Frolic those swirls sound amazing!! Not going to do my diet any good though! I am so doomed though lidl and its bakery of yumminess is literally so close to mine I can almost smell the fresh pastries!

DS has been asleep since 12 here too I'm amazed again! Anyone else's LO open their eyes mid nap so much your convinced they are awake look at you and then go back off? He did it before and I froze like a rabbit in headlights not wanting to wake him properly! Seemed to so the trick!! Lol I forgot to mention the 'hoover' white noise I'm still using so it's a triple threat for nap time really- I think of it analogous to the 3 deathly hallows (massive Harry Potter geek here) so snuggly blanket (invisibility cloak), dummy (philosophers stone) and white noise doesn't quite fit with the elder wand but you get my drift! Oh dear I need some adult conversation or for DS to wake up I'm losing the plot!!! Haha!!

mzzzf · 19/10/2015 14:15

YES TO HARRY BLOODY POTTER!!

I'm ashamed to admit I love it even though I'm 34!!

I often tell DH to "believe in magic you muggle!" Grin

Sorry for the short posts today _ I have a wriggler!! Such an inconsiderate baby!!!

OP posts:
FattyNinjaOwl · 19/10/2015 14:19

I never did get harry potter. My DS1 loves it and is currently reading the fourth book.
I often end up reading it with him just to make sure his pronunciation is right and he understands what is happening. I now know more about harry potter than I ever wanted to.

Lilydreams · 19/10/2015 14:30

Woohoo mzzzf!!! Glad it's not just me! Our DCs are clearly going to share a love for Harry Potter and 3am feeds! Lol

Fatty- I probably should have had someone correct me on my probounciation when I read them- I was mightily suprised when the first film came out and it wasn't Harry, Ron and 'her- me- oh- nee' haha!! Doh!!

DH has just got in from a very busy morning at work and is 'knackered' he didn't quite seem to get it when I said I was too- I've done 3 loads of washing, put on dishwasher, emptied dishwasher, washed and sterilised all bottles and swept up all whilst looking after Luca! It's bloody exhausting this parenting!! And I'm pretty impressed I got all that done!

Frolicacid · 19/10/2015 14:36

I read the Harry Potter books and loved them. I haven't seen the films though.

Ds is still asleep! I know exactly what you mean lily. Ds stirs mid nap and I do everything I can not to catch his eye!

I've just realised I forgot to take his hat off when we got in. They're not supposed to wear them indoors are they. Naughty mummy! Good job it's not hot in here. Maybe a hat is the secret to 3 + hour naps! Dh always wears a hat - looks like ds is a chip off the old block.

Stay still mini mzzf! Mummy needs to mumsnet!

How lovely to be reading with your ds fatty. Definitely one of the things I'm looking forward to the most.

FattyNinjaOwl · 19/10/2015 14:49

It is lovely. We are big readers. There's literally hundreds of books in my house. (Around 230 babies/childrens books and a couple hundred of my books!)
I read to the babies too. DS2 listens intently. DD only listens at bedtime though. She's just not that into books yet.

Frolicacid · 19/10/2015 14:52

X-posts lily! That's a really busy morning. Try not to thump dh!
I also thought hermione was pronounced like that Grin

Lilydreams · 19/10/2015 15:06

Yay frolic glad I'm not the only one! DS has just started to stir here but still doesn't look like he's waking he's past 3 hours now too!! Wow!

Fatty- that's great that you are all such big readers, I think screens have taken over far too much in modern life and will definitely be enxouraging DS to read, we've tried a few times after his bath but he's either not been interested or been over tired or hungry so has been whinging! Will try again this week maybe though!

sianihedgehog · 19/10/2015 17:04

Oh, Fergus is a sad and poorly little man after his jabs. :( lots of vomiting (even by his standards) and he feels awfully warm, but is shivering. And he's just had a poonami so bad it went all the way up his back into his hair, and through everything he was wearing and into my leggings. :(

It was AWFUL how he cried about the jabs, too. I cried.

I'm going to order pizza for dinner and just devote the night to tucking him inside my dressing gown and cuddling him better.

Counttheshadows · 19/10/2015 17:29

Oh wow this thread has moved on a lot - I can't keep up!

I'm another one that loves reading, and a huge Harry Potter fan. I'd love to start reading again but 1.) I need to find a book as I've reread all of mine far too many times and 2.) I need time!

Siani The jabs really are horrible aren't they :( I found ours heartbreaking. Have you given him calpol?

Joskar · 19/10/2015 17:57

Hiya! Sorry for radio silence. Been hectic busy. Went swimming yesterday. Coco loved it! We had such a blast. Dd1 is a great fan of the water so it's nice to have another water baby. I'd love them to have lessons but the waiting list is crazy long. I've friends in cities and towns who have been doing lessons since just a few weeks old. Very jealous.

Dd1 and I made chocolate cake this morning then we had friends over this afternoon and she and the wee boy raced about with Joskardog in a sugar fuelled rampage. Should be an interesting bedtime!

Just be looking at the Book People catalogue. Some great deals for all the readers on here. I've been reading to dd1 since she was tiny and she's a great one for books now. It's amazing how much they pick up. She's been able to "do" Each Peach for ages now and that was one of the first ones we had.

Lilydreams · 19/10/2015 18:26

Oh Siani- hugs for Fergus are they his first lot? Luca has got his second lot tommorrow and I'm hoping he reacts as well as he did to the first I think we got very lucky! Your evening of pizza and cuddles sounds perfect!

Yay count another HP fan!! I don't seem to have time to read either and I thought I would on Mat leave! I've been carrying Gone Girl around with me since about 35 weeks pregnant and am still yet to read the first page!

Joksar welcome back! Glad you had a good swim! Sounds like you've had a lovely day!

I'm just at the clinic waiting for my coil appointment! Eeeek I need to relax!!

Lilydreams · 19/10/2015 19:04

Omg ladies I'm fuming!!!!! I could have smacked that doctor in the face!! He wouldn't bloody fit it!! Said as I'm 12 weeks postnatal and haven't had a period he wanted me to do a pregnancy test which I did and was negative. He asked when I last had sex and I said I couldn't remember and he had a right shitty attitude on him saying I needed to think and be more precise as if it was in the last 2/3 weeks if I was pregnant it wouldn't show up on a pregnancy test. I said it had been at least 3 weeks but he wasn't happy with that he obviously wanted a precise date and time- jeez I've got a 12 week old baby I'm suprised I've even managed it never mind remembered the details! So he said he was putting me on the pill for a month and then I could come back and have it fitted, I refused as that's the whole reason I want the coil as hormones make me crazy! He then said to come back in two weeks and use condoms or preferably abstain until then and he'd do another pregnancy test which if negative he would then go ahead! I'm seething!! That makes no sense if I had sex now and used condoms I would be in the exact same situation I am today as it would be 2 weeks after and any potential accident wouldn't show on a test! What a ducking prick- excuse the language but I'm so annoyed!! I was nervous about getting it done and had psyched myself up for it tonight!! FFS!!!!!!

mzzzf · 19/10/2015 19:44

Oh Lily that's utterly crappola!!! What a ducking prick indeed! Grin Anyway you can know who you're going to have the appointment with next time so it's not him?

Sorry for the sickie kidlets, that is not cool at all. Well wishes all round!

Such a lovely weekend with girlie mates although one of them decided to take it upon herself to instigate a Gina Ford style napping set up on mini mzzzf whilst I was snoozing on Sunday morning and DH had his defences down. Suffice to say her usual 90min nap turned into a 20min one that ended with a scream-a-thon and being off kilter for the rest of the day. I absolutely know my mate meant well and I love her dearly for trying to help but coping with mini mzzzf for the rest of the day was no fun at all Confused
I read somewhere that naps 1 and 2 of the day are the most important ones so in my mind they're the ones I will fanny about with last when I've nailed the other ones.

Anyway my plan of action to kill off the 3am wake up call is to increase mini mzzzf's feeds. She's been regularly draining bottles of 6oz so I'm sliding in a 7oz for every other bottle in the hope of filling her up - we shall see!!!!

I'd like to take dd swimming, hmmm I wonder if I can convince DH to dig out his budgie smugglers and come with me?! Grin

Mugabe one and all!

OP posts:
Dozygirl · 19/10/2015 20:31

Yeah mzzf take her swimming. She'll love it. We missed going this weekend because dp treated me to a clothes shopping spree and then we were tired after our night so hopefully this weekend we'll make it.

I always seem to be out and about in the day so dd naps in the car seat. In the evening she cluster feeds so still haven't been able to put her down. I'd love an evening to myself without a baby attached to me though. As much as I love her cuddles. I get about 10 mins when dp comes home and he has a cuddle then he passes her back to me for more feeding. But I get a good stretch of sleep at night so all good.

Fanby hilarious that molly pooped on her while trousers bless her. I've yet to have a really bad poo exposing yet. She saved her poo up for staying at nanas house heehee. As soon as my mum took her nappy off she pooed everywhere. So funny.
Yey for uninterrupted TV watching :)

Love love love harry potter. I used to love the excitement of the new book being released and would preorder it then spent the next few days power reading it. I couldn't put them down. I miss having a book like that to read. I've been reading game of thrones but it's a bit harder to follow and I haven't got the time. Before phones and facebook though I'd read all the time. Im way to addicted to my phone for my own good. I don't want dd to be addicted like me.

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 19/10/2015 21:20

Evening ladies,

We had our last visit from our lovely midwife this afternoon so that's it, officially out of the system and no longer 'newborn'. Actually made me a little sad. Must be the hormones! Grumpy 2 is now 12lb which explains my dead arm last night at least Smile.

Loads to catch up on from today. Sorry if I miss anything vital.

Not HP fans here but big readers nonetheless. We've read to Grumpy 1 since birth pretty much and it's so exciting now watching her learn to read to herself. Grumpy 2 is pretty partial to "that's not my penguin" but I think that's mainly because penguins are naturally high contrast! Ideal for babies! We all go to our local library once a week to pick books. It's geekishly good fun.

fatty how is it going in the house of sickness? Hope you are seeing an improvement.

mzzzf it's so hard when they start the day out of sync. I like to think of myself as 'laid back hippy Mum' but I do turn into 'swivel-eyed lunatic Mum' if anyone messes with nap time. Well done for not decking your mate Smile

fanby can you save the trousers or are they a straight in the bin job? Plenty of poo here but no leakages yet (jinx). Having said that they have turned much more 'solid' this week. Like yellow cottage cheese rather than French mustard. Totally gross.

lily your Doctor sounds like a prat. Could you go to a drop in sexual health clinic instead of your surgery to get it sorted? Completely understand why you want to avoid the pill. I took hormonal contraception for about 6 months 15 years ago and the memory of how loopy it sent me still makes me shudder.

siani sorry to hear about Fergus. Hope you are snuggled up together now and he is feeling better. Did you dose him with Calpol before he had his jabs or did the nurse give him paracetamol when she did the imms? We've got ours on Friday and I'm not sure whether to pre-dose her or not.

Well, last nights weird cluster feeding seems to have been a one off because it's 9pm and grumpy 2 has passed out in her cot. DH has gone to Morrisons (no Lidl here, gutted) so I'm going to crawl in to bed. Two more sleeps till half term. Yay!!

kbro79 · 19/10/2015 21:35

Well DS going to bed has gone like a dream. He went down instantly, self settled whilst I used the time to bake a cake and DH cleaned the house. I am of course joking. He is still wide awake and sat up with us having started the screamathon nice and early at 5pm. As a plus he did have one of his 20 minute naps at the exact minute our take away arrived. I'll take that as a win for today. To be honest today has been one of those days so have not tried as hard as I could to get him to bed. Tomorrow is a new day though right?

Frolic DS sleep pattern is v similar to your DS. Late to bed and late up. Whilst I love the later mornings I do think it would be better for all 3 of us if he went down earlier. However I don't want to go back to multiple night feeds so bit scared of breaking it all if that makes sense??

Corblimey sounds like you had a tough time of it and sorry to hear about the PND. No advice other than looking after 2 when your not well must be so hard so sounds like your doing incredibly well!!

Nolonger and jokstar welcome back!!

So today had baby brain / blonde moment. Signed up to do this NHS post natal course. Mostly to get out the house and also to meet other mums. It started today and I bloody forgot. So annoyed at myself. Esp as I was feeling a bit lonely today and could have been chatting away to other mums (this is in my head only. In real life I would have been sat at the back to awkward to talk to anyone) also annoying as the first topic was sleep which is the only one am bothered about really. Arrgggg.

Dozy I am terrible with my phone. DH calls it my umbilical cord it's attached to me so much. I need to wean myself off it and get back into a good book.

Lily that Dr sounds awful and I'd be fuming. And also so patronising. Is there another one you can see next time??

Mugabe to us getting some sleep.

mzzzf · 19/10/2015 21:50

Kbro - have you got a sling? It's the only thing 9 times out of 10 that'll calm dd right down. Yes she'll scream for the first 10mins in it but after 15mins mooching round the house she's normally zonked out.
Hope the screamathpn ends soon!!

Sleep is my 'thing' at the moment too. Two goals -1 to get her napping off of me and 2 to sort out evening sleeping. I just don't know what to do come evening. Currently she sleeps on me or DH in the sling from after her bath to our adult bedtime because I've the fear of 'must not sleep alone' in my head. How will I know she's actually ok from just a monitor?! Yes I know I sound nuts. Therefore dd doesn't have a solo bedtime she comes downstairs with us but I'm sure she'd benefit from proper dark and quiet to sleep... Arrrrghhh when do you put them upstairs solo?!

The solo upstairs thing would also solve my nap off me issues too!!

OP posts:
mzzzf · 19/10/2015 21:51

Btw mini mzzzf is 11 weeks, anyone else solo napping or bedtime sleeping them?!

OP posts:
Joskar · 19/10/2015 21:57

Shite dr experience. Hope you see someone else next time. Think they're gods some of them!

I'm flipping exhausted. Visitors! Them and their exciting children winding my child up to a non napping state. No naps for dd2 either because dd1 kept prodding her. Maybe it's the answer though because dd2 conked out at 8.30 and is still asleep. Begs the question why I'm not! Why? Because I was sharking the kitchen. FFS! With dd1 at 6 weeks I was just about able to get dressed. I'm needing to dial it down a bit I think or I'm going to seriously run out of steam. Anyway again I reckon don't stress too much about naps and bedtime. The baby will do it when they're ready so just do what your gut tells you and don't feel pressured by books or friends or online forums. It will come good whether you cry about it or not so don't bother crying.

Also HP fan. Currently rereading some Terry Pratchett in honour of the great man. So sad there won't be any more. Also just read Sarah Waters' The Paying Guests which was good and Us by David Nicholls. Us is lovely. Very easy read. Recommend it.

No more Lidl or cake making. That's it! I'm a pudding. Next week I'm going no sugar. Well...probably...maybe...

Frolicacid · 19/10/2015 22:10

Oh no siani. Poor Fergus. I hope he gets better quickly.
We have first jabs on Wednesday and I'm dreading it.

Glad you are still with us jockstar! Thank you for the book people tip. Will definitely have a look.
We've tried reading to ds but he's not that keen on listening just yet. I did however put on a nursery rhymes cd today and he went crazy bopping away. He loves music in general, which makes a lot of sense as dh is a musician.

That's utter shit lily. Can you arrange to get it done by someone else next time? He sounds like a knob. I hope you're having a glass of wine or something nice tonight.

Glad you had a lovely weekend with your mates mzzf. Much needed I'm sure. And well done for not murdering your friend who fucked up helped with nap time.

I'm a phone addict as well dozy. I'm really trying hard not to be, but all this sitting down feeding kind of lends itself to one handed internetting.

Have you had a midwife all this time grumpy? I only saw one about 3 times after ds was born before being passed over to the hv.
So sorry you don't have a lidl! I'm not sure how I'd cope! Morrisons cheese and onion pasties are the best though.

I know exactly what you mean about being scared to 'break' the pattern kbro. I would love ds to go down earlier, but am lithe to try and do anything to change the status quo as I'm actually getting sleep as things are. And the lie in's feel pretty decedant Grin
A nap that conincides with a take away is a definite win Smile

I've not had any treats today. No chocolate, biscuits, lemonade or cake. Sad I'm worried I'll collapse before the evenings out Wink

Frolicacid · 19/10/2015 22:16

X-posts.

I also have the 'must not sleep alone' fear mzzf. Ds will be 8 weeks on Thursday. i've no idea when I'll feel ready to conquer the fear!

Cutting out sugar is shit jockstar. I've done 24 hours and have a banging headache.
