Mzzzf- I think it is him next time Angry our kids really do seem similar I was only thinking today that I might up DSs feeds as he is draining 6ozs now! Think I'll start with his last bottle of the day to see if he lasts longer overnight. I wouldn't have been impressed with your friends Gina ford style even if she did mean well!

Dozy- I used to do that with Harry Potter books too! I literally didn't speak to anyone until I'd read them!

Slowife- it feels strange once the midwife signs you off doesn't it! You've reminded me I really need to join the library- I don't really have an excuse it is literally about 100m from my front door! Might encourage me to read more and I think they do a baby group on Fridays. I didn't go to my gp as they don't do it- he gave me a number to ring and they sent me to my local clinic that provides the service, the doctor did ask me was this clinic the most convenient for me and I said yes- it is only 5 mins away- maybe I should go somewhere else the travel might be worth it to avoid him!

Oh kbro sorry bedtime hasn't gone according to plan although a 20 minute nap for eating is impressive- my DS is the opposite I'm sure he can smell food and always wakes whenever I try to eat!

Mzzzf- I started putting DS upstairs of an evening about 3 or 4 weeks ago maybe (he's 12 weeks now) I also had a fear of having him alone due to the 'sleep in the same room as you' advice and I asked my HV about it as he had gone from sleeping happily in the evenings in his Moses in the lounge to waking up when we talked/ the TV made a noise. She said it was fine to have him upstairs with monitor on- I have a video monitor though which I find very reassuring especially as I can zoom in to watch him breathing Blush It's nice to have some kind of evening back even though it doesn't always work!

Frolic- no wine (I've still not really had a drink as I just haven't missed it!) but have had some choc digestives- annoyed though because I'd eaten well all day and then remembered the nurse had advised I have something sugary before my appointment so ate some choc as I ran out the door- as it had been for nothing I used it as an excuse to fall off the wagon and eat my body weight in digestives! I really am an all or nothing girl with dieting!

DS's nap this afternoon ended up being 4 hours and I was worried he wouldn't sleep tonight! However he fell asleep around 8.30 in my arms wrapped in the magic blanket! I took him upstairs at 9.15 and he didn't even stir when I laid him down- still covered with magic blanket whilst I set up the monitor and put the blinds down etc then I slowly removed magic blanket and covered him with the cellular one he has in his basket and crept out! I wasn't too hopeful when after 20 minutes he was awake crying but I went up gave him dummy back and shhh'd him for about 5 minutes and he went back off- still sleeping now! Shock

DH is doing the whole night tonight and I'm very excited for a full nights sleep! That said I'm taking the monitor in with me in the spare room as DH has never heard ds in the night so I'm scared he won't tonight but I think the knowledge that it's all on him should make him sleep more lightly and therefore hear him- the monitor is just a safety net so if he doesn't hear him I can go in and kick him out of bed! DH not DS!! Hoping I manage to sleep and don't worry too much!

sianihedgehog · 19/10/2015 22:43

Ooft. Temperature of 38.5, and a very unhappy baby. :( He's been nursing pretty much constantly since about 4pm, interspersed with vomiting.
Slowife and count I brought the calpol with me and gave it to him straight after.

lilydreams yep, his first.
I don't think we're going to do any sleeping here tonight. :(

nolongerwaitingfornumber2 · 19/10/2015 22:52

Lily, your doctor sounds a bit of a fool. I told her we were using condoms and my GP was happy with that. Am not really getting on with the mirena coil though as having continual spotting so far and think the threads are too long as I can sort of feel it. Might go back to make sure it's ok.

Big fan of Harry Potter here too and reading of any kind. My DD has loads of books but haven't read much with DS yet. Definitely will though soon. He did love "that's not my hamster" though...spooky Slow!

Hope to take DS swimming this Thursday when DD at nursery. We have family changing rooms with shower and change table which helps massively.

Mzzzf, I think I would have been fuming with your friend but you sound very understanding. I hate anyone interfering! Re. solo sleeping we have the opposite problem in that DS seems to know when he's alone and immediately wakes up so being with us is the only way to get any decent stretches at the moment.

Siani, enjoy those cuddles. It sounds like your little one has got a rough deal with the jabs. When are the second lot given btw? I have totally forgotten! DS will be 11 weeks tomorrow but not heard anything from the doctor's about an appointment.

Kbro, your post made me chuckle. I genuinely thought you were serious at first. I'm testing my pelvic floor as DS fell asleep around 9 on me and I haven't dared move since but am desperate for a wee!

Lily, just seen your post about bedtime and I'm seriously impressed. I need a magic blanket! Talking of which I might get my own magic electric blanket out soon. Definitely turning colder at night. Ds's little fingers are like ice.

Mugabe sleep all round...he strikes me as someone untroubled by disturbed sleep!!

Frolicacid · 20/10/2015 00:11

Tonight, instead of trying hard to keep ds calm for the last hour or so before bed we just gave up and gave in to the fact that he seems to be wide awake and playful in the evenings. So, instead of me cuddling and him fighting sleep we put him under the baby gym and let him rock out to dh's old jungle book vinyl. He seemed to love it and has actually fallen asleep without any fuss by 11:30. Maybe he just needs to burn off that last bit of energy. Or maybe he'll be over stimulated, wake up and give me hell all night. Only one way to find out!

I'm exactly the same about diet lily. All or nothing. Always the whole packet and never one or two.
I've not missed it or had any booze yet either. I thought I'd be diving into a nice red soon after he arrived, but after all those months of feeling sick I'm terrified of a hangover.
What on earth is the magic blanket made of? I need one in my life!
Enjoy your night off. Shake dh very hard if you have to get up to wake him.

FlowersBrew siani. I hope tonight isn't as bad as you anticipate.

Ds also has cold fingers nolonger. I'm trying to use the folding over hands on his sleep suits, but he hates them.

Good night all - I hope there is plenty of sleep to be had.

FattyNinjaOwl · 20/10/2015 00:56

Well DS2 must be feeling better now. He's just drained another 8oz bottle. Burped and conked out, hopefully for the night now!

He will only sleep in his cot with his big fleece blanket. I wrap him up like a sausage, with his arms out. He sleeps that way. Any other blanket though and he's up. Luckily I have 2 so if one gets sicked on I have a spare!

Mugabe nights to you all. Hope poorly babies feel better soon and that tired mums get sleep tonight!

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 20/10/2015 04:53

Argh just lost a really long message. In short:

Just had 6 hours sleep - yay!

frolic we have a new service here whereby you get a personal midwife who visits you at home throughout your pregnancy and then for 6 weeks postnatal. It's been fab, especially when it all got scary with the chicken pox.

lily get Luca a library card, you can take out adult books with it but the fines are much smaller!

To whoever was talking about solo evening sleeping, the advice from the Lullaby Trust is 3 months for naps and 6 months for overnight. But I know a lot of people (the paedeatrician in my first nct group for one) who have gone solo with a monitor way earlier than that. We are also paranoid on the dwarf house though so either DH or I stay in our bedroom with the lights down low with grumpy 2 until she drifts off at 9pm.

Right finished pumping off to catch a few more Zzzs. Hopefully.

loveandsmiles · 20/10/2015 08:47

Hi slow - DD slept for 6 hours too - 10-4 - then fed for a while and snuggled back to sleep 5-7am - I got up at 5am and blitzed the house.

Still school holidays here - lovely day so going to take all the DCs out - they want to go to The Kelpies (huge horse head statues) as there is a good play park there - bit of a drive so hopefully DD will sleep and all will behave!!

mzzzf · 20/10/2015 08:48

Oooh that's interesting Slow re the naps. Now do you think the baby bedtime is considered an evening nap before we go up for proper sleeping?! Because if she downstairs is like a nap in the sling. Crikey its a mine field!!! Either way though I should probably sort out the monitor we have to see if I actually like it!!! What's your video one called Lily?!

So last night was standard - evening nap on me in the sling straight after bottle and bath at about 8.30pm. Then dream feed at 11pm when we went up to bed and transferred into cot. Where she slept until the magic 3am hour - more milk then up again at 5, 5.45, and 6.30 when DH took over for the day as he slept through everything so has wracked up 7.5hrs sleep!!! I'm so jealous!!!

Many Mugabes all round folks - happy Tuesday!! Anyone doing anything exciting today?

OP posts:
mzzzf · 20/10/2015 08:49

A no sugar day does not count as exciting though - that's just crazy talk! Not have sugary treats whilst a baby is within 5m of me?!?!! That's just not cricket Grin

OP posts:
FattyNinjaOwl · 20/10/2015 09:00

Morning. I've managed very little sleep. Even though the baby slept Sad
I was up and down being sick all night, then I've gone to pick DD up and pulled my back Sad it really hurts.

mzzzf · 20/10/2015 09:11

Awww fatty that's awful. Get some big painkillers down your grid and call your dp over if you can

OP posts:
Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 20/10/2015 09:12

mzzzf I'd class the evening sleep between baby bedtime and adult bedtime as a 'nap' Smile

fatty sending you good wishes for surviving today Flowers

I'm on an enforced no sugar day because my flaming wisdom tooth is on the move. I can barely eat anything it hurts so much. Argh!

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 20/10/2015 09:13

Oh, and cracking sleep love well done to your DC. Fair play to you on the cleaning though. Grumpy 2 went back to sleep at 4:45am and I followed suit until 7am.

FattyNinjaOwl · 20/10/2015 09:14

DP at work today.
slow ouch. I had to have my top two wisdom teeth removed. It hurt like a bitch. The numbing stuff doesnt work very well for me. It just makes me drooly! Grin

ruby242 · 20/10/2015 09:49

Oh poor you fatty, I hope you survive the day and feel better soon

Mzzzf that's a good idea using the sling in evening then transferring-haven't tried that but bedtime is tricky for us so might give that a go

Also thinking of trying a dream feed, have people had success with it? I'm scared it will wake him up completely!

Not a great start to our night with lots of crying but he managed to sleep past his usual 5am wake up which is great!

FattyNinjaOwl · 20/10/2015 09:56

Oh fuck...I tried to eat toast. Ugh. I've just thrown my guts up. Luckily DS2 is napping. DD is pestering for a brew! Holding her cuo out to me and telling me "brew mummy"
(She usually has a brew with me while we watch JK) I've no tea bags until my shopping comes though and she can piss off if she thinks she's getting coffee.

sianihedgehog · 20/10/2015 10:02

Ooft that was a HARD night. No sleeps at all until about 3am and then about 2h,and poor little chap covered ALL the long sleeve bodysuits in vomit. His temperature seems to be back down now and he's so overtired so he's having lots of little grumpy naps. He's all pale with bruised eyes and looks like a waxwork. :(

August 2015 - Jaffa cake wars and many Mugabe greetings to you!
Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 20/10/2015 10:02

Okay, so here is a fun Tuesday morning confessional game.

I've just been busted by the HV with grumpy 2 in her bouncer on the dining room table (my excuse is that I was folding washing and wanted to be able to chat with her). frolic has left DS asleep in his hat. What other 'transgressions' have we all committed in these first few weeks of parenthood?

Let's share, am sure it'll provide (a) a sense of relief and (b) many giggles Grin

Slowifeandthegrumpydwarfs · 20/10/2015 10:06

Ah fatty that must have hurt, wisdom teeth removal is serious shit. I am actually drooling a tiny bit. It's dreadful, I did the school run this morning covered in vomit with a slight drool on. It's a wonder the school didn't call social services...

FattyNinjaOwl · 20/10/2015 10:12

Shock DD drank juice! She usually refuses and wants water but wants it coloured Confused so I had to put a couple drops of food colouring in it. But she decided if she couldn't have a cuppa she wanted real juice!
siani he's adorable. Poor little thing. Hope he's better today.

Confessions.... Erm, I make up all the bottles I need for the day and store them in the fridge. (That's not really a confession as its allowed as long as you do it correctly)

Errr.....trying to think.....

Well I made my worst mistakes with my DB (I'm 10 years older) I once dropped him and he hit his head on the DVD player, leaving him with a moon shaped scar.
I also pushed his buggy down a cobbled street when he was about 2, the buggy hit a loose cobble and tipped, I landed on top of it. He has a star shaped scar on his forehead.

I learnt to always keep them away from sharp corners and to catch quicker, and never to go down cobbled streets!

sianihedgehog · 20/10/2015 10:32

Confessions: DS was never feet to foot in his cot until I reorganised the bedroom. I wanted him at boob height, so he was halfway up. I almost never do up the straps when I put him in the bouncy chair briefly. I don't always get the cats out of his cot when he's not using it.

Frolicacid · 20/10/2015 10:48

Mugabe morning all!
Not a broad night here, but I totally jinxed myself by daring to say yesterday that we were getting into a bit of a pattern and ds woke for a feed every 2 hours. He went back to sleep quickly every time so I shouldn't complain.

That sounds utter shit fatty. I had a vomitting thing last week but it cleared quickly. I hope you have a stress free day and manage a nap somewhere along the line. I find flat lemonade to be good for settling the stomach and keeping me hydrated.
Your poor brother must have been glad when you left home WinkGrin

The extended midwife service sounds great slow. Mine was lovely and I would have loved to carry on seeing her.
Wisdom teeth pain is really the pits. I had mine removed a few years ago and the relief was immense.

Enjoy your day out loves.

I'm being unfaithful to lidl today and popping to asda in a minute for some decent coffe. Does that count as exciting mzzf?!

I've not tried a dream feed ruby - he doesn't really sleep for long enough.

He is beautiful siani. I hope he feels better soon.

Great idea about the confessions slow.
As well as the hat thing, I regularly forget about nappy changes. I'm also a bit shit at sterilising the dummy. I'm sure there are loads more things that I'm doing wrong but can't remember right now.

Happy Tuesday everyone. I better get this grumpy boy to sleep somehow.

FattyNinjaOwl · 20/10/2015 10:52

frolic my brother is a glutton for punishment. He sleeps over every weekend and sometimes more in the holidays! Until the beginning of this year he had his own room here.

Clstow · 20/10/2015 11:16

I have a mammoth Tuesday confession... DS sleeps on his front ShockBlush
I rationalise it as he's breastfed, has great head control, no smokers in house, sleeps in room with us, etc. He was waking up every hour on his back and has done as many as 9 straight on his front and I figured he was more vulnerable from me being likely to walk in front of a bus coz I was so sleep deprived. Hope you don't all think I'm awful now!

Sympathy for all those who had crap nights. When DS woke up at midnight I was crying at OH (who was still up) and telling him he was a twat for not going to bed earlier and getting more sleep when I was so tired... Totally rational yeah? Then after that DS managed 4 hours straight followed by another 3.5 hours. His randomness is mind boggling!

Hope you feel better soon Fatty and glad Fergus's temp is back down Siani.

Mugabe Tuesday to all. I'm at a hospital in central London for an appointment while OH has taken DS to be weighed back home. Feel like I'm missing a limb and keep thinking I've forgotten something!

Counttheshadows · 20/10/2015 11:42

Morning all!

Wow this thread moves sooo fast, I can't keep up with who's said what!

I used to do the same as others with the HP books. I'd buy them at midnight, and then camp out in my room all night and day until I was finished Grin I'd then go back and reread it at a leisurely pace. Speaking of reading, does anyone have any book recommendations please?

I'm also another one wondering how a dream feed works. I thought about trying it last night as I was waiting for her to feed at about 11pm, but her nappy looked bulging. So I figured even if I could feed her in get sleep, her nappy would end up waking her up soon anyway.

To those who have been feeling ill/bad nights/babies poorly (can't remember names sorry!) I hope today is a better day for you all Flowers
