Thanks for all the reassurance re swaddling - Jamie settled down once full and submitted to swaddling quite happily in the end, so I guess I just have to read his moods and be flexible.

Olihan, thanks for doing the stats for us all- don't change it til you do another lot but my LO was a bit bigger than you've got down, 8lb 3.5oz rather than 3lb 3.5oz! Thanks

satinshoes · 12/01/2007 11:10

Just been into town with DDs AND i am very pleased as first time I've been out with the 2 of them and had to walk anywhere. Normally when DH is around DD1 expects to be carried but today she held my hand all the way around town! yay. makes me wonder why I soent £50 on a buggy board that she wont use though

jabberwocky · 12/01/2007 11:49

Hey satin, buggboards hold their value well on ebay

judemum · 12/01/2007 11:54

Castles- I second that re. sleeping bags. DS2 hated being swaddeled so I half swaddled him for the first few weeks (e.g. under the arms) and as soon as he was big enough he's been straight inot a sleeping bag. Think I'm right in saying that as long as their head is too big to slide into the hole at the top of the bag when its buttoned closed, then they can go in. Anyway Ewan loves his and I have happily discarded all the fiddly sheets and cot blankets again

Satin- we're putting off buying a buggy board for that very reason- not completely sure DS1 is going to use it....can;'t quite decide what to do TBH and we're still carting 2 seperate prams around with us or making DS1 walk everywhere. I am mean!

Off to ice DS1's birthday cake for tomorrow. We gave him a tractor for his birthday which he insisted on taking to bed (!!)

Olihan · 12/01/2007 14:03

I am bouncing off the walls with happiness today . Ds was weighed this morning and has put on 3oz since Monday. Might not sound like much but ds1 and dd didn't gain any weight until I introduced formula so for him to have gone up on 100% my milk is amazing!

Devongirl, I did wonder when I typed your ds's weight - blame the sleep deprivation!

bebespain · 12/01/2007 15:02

Hi all
Found out today I've got the dreaded mastitis in one boob. Been given antibiotics. Just wondered if anyone else has suffered/suffering from this and how long it took to clear up...??

castlesintheair · 12/01/2007 15:06

Hi Bebespain, sorry to hear you have mastitis. It took about a week for mine to improve. It's effing awful especially when you have bleeding nipples & post-natal headaches as well like me

BaileysMilkshake · 12/01/2007 16:20

Hi All,

just wanted to say a 'see ya later'. Have been on MN a bit to much lately and have read some stories that have made me realy anxious - so much so I am becoming a bit paranoid and controlling over DC's and DH. It's typical of me and something I should have realised would happen - I was under a councellor for this sort of behaviour about 18 months ago.

Anyway the upshot is, as I cannot seem to contain myself to our thread, I am going to give MN a miss for a whle until I calm down.

I send you all lots of love and hope it wont be too long before we can chat again.

baileys

Hi all, have not been around for ages due to broadband issues which have been driving us mad. But all seems sorted now, thank goodness so I have missed so much over the past while.

Well we called ds Luke. He is 4ws old today which I find hard to beleive that the time has gone so fast.
He has a slight tongue-tie which we're getting snipped next week, I am rather nervous about it all to be honest but know it will be good to get it over with for him now. Also hoping that it helps with him feeding as its been quite painful and he wants to feed so so often that I am exhausted. Coming very close to giving him a bottle of formula at night to try and see if he settles for a little longer than 2hrs on that.

Does anyone here mix breastfeeding and formula feeding yet? I remember giving my dd a bottle of formula at night from about 8weeks I think and it really helped us all get some much needed sleep.

He also has a thing with regurgitating after every single feed that is very frustrating. The hv who is lovely and really been supportive over the tongue tie does not seem to think its a problem as he is putting on lots of weight. Was 7lb4oz at birth and is now 9lb 13. But its really hard at night to just give him little feeds all the time.

How are the second time mums coping here. DD now 3 1/4 has been brilliant with Luke but sometimes gets a little too motherly towards him. But overall she is great helping fetch me nappies etc etc.

hope all of you guys are wel, I am slowly catching up on some of the messages before Luke wakes for another feed.Wish he would sleep like this at 3am

babypowder · 12/01/2007 17:37

Oli, I'm feeling exactly the same! DD2 has put on 3oz since Wednesday, and is above her birth weight for the first time. I actually did a celebratory punch in the air, accompanied by a 'YESSSS' , so no doubt the HV now has me down as a nutter. In fact, she probably has us on the at risk register as I kept turning my back on DD2 on the changing table to tell DD1 to stop mucking about. Just what kind of mother am I??

Baileys, have a good rest from MN - hope to hear from you in a while.

satinshoes · 12/01/2007 17:40

sorry to hear that baileys. come back soon.

Dd2 has a cold i think. her nose is so blocked and there is nothing i can do about it. she has slept like an angel today and fed every 3 hours which is unheard of as its normally every 2 - 2.5. So now i'm worried she'll be up all night...

going to persevere with the buggyboard for a bit but will probably sell on ebay if it doesnt get used

jabberwocky · 12/01/2007 18:31

bebespain, so sorry to hear about the mastitis. I had it with ds1. I really felt much, much better after just the first day on antibiotics so hopefully you will too. Although it does take about a week to totally clear up. If you can't stand to nurse on that side, just keep expressing.

Caramelli, I think there are other mixed feeders here. I'm thinking about starting it soon.

Baileys, we will MISS you! But, I do know what you mean about needing a break sometimes We will eagerly await your return.

I'm glad to hear about all of the babies gaining weight. Ds2 hasn't had a weigh in lately but seems to be gaining as well.

Devongirl · 12/01/2007 18:32

Sorry to hear that Baileys - I can understand - I am a bit obsessed with the internet for checking everything and really ought to let up a bit... I will try

In the meantime, can anyone describe their little one's poos to me? Those who are exclusively breastfeeding - what should my 2 week old's poos look like? They are bright mustard yellow, very wet and explode from a big fart when I am feeding him (sorry TMI but we've all been through too much together to be squeamish now). Is this diarrheoa or is this normal??? And he's done this 3 or 4 times today. I think we'll have to abandon the bambino mio nappies and go back to disposables for a bit.

Thanks for any advice

satinshoes · 12/01/2007 18:44

devongirl - poo sounds absolutely normal. i best describe my DDs as runny yellow wholegrain mustard

weirdbird · 12/01/2007 18:54

Devongirl, sounds perfectly normal to me, breast fed dirty nappies are often very wet, and as for the explosive nature, that is just wind...

My DD2's are the same.

Anyone else have problems with hiccups?

DD2 keeps getting them about 30min after a feed while she is fast asleep, they wake her up and nothing but feeding her again seems to get rid of them and if we leave her they get so violent she starts bringing up milk! and she starts getting very upset. But she wont then settle for a few sips she wants almost a full feed again.

Really don't know what to do as I can't be feeding that much, as she will have permenantly attached!

What age can you give them boiled water?
mentioned it to the MW who completely missed the point and told me to putting them to the breast would stop them . but with hour long feeding sessions as a minimum I cant keep putting her back on 30min after a feed.

And I am feeling crap, have an internal infection and am on antibiotics, am really tired and have lost interest in both DD's and just want to hide in my bed and have a baby that actually does being awake without screaming, she even screams when you wind her...

HayleyWayley · 12/01/2007 19:45

weirdbird, my LO is 4 wks and has been havin boiled water for 2 weeks!! hoping it wud fill him up inbetween feeds coz hes also wantin feedin all the time!

Elibean · 12/01/2007 21:57

Oh Lor, given up trying to catch up on each and every post when I log on! Will stop trying to be a Perfect Poster () and just get on with it then...

Bailey's, I can understand that too...good for you for taking care of yourself, and hope to see you soon. xx

Devongirl, this is exactly why my cloth nappies are sitting pretty and unused still...I change at least four or five explosive wet poos every day. Did get them out and stare at them earlier, then decided I'd better at least revise how to use them - can't quite remember which are wraps and which are nappies, and how on earth do you put the right size babygroes on over the top of such massive bums anyway?!? Help!

Northernmama, nice to see you, too......and Carameli...feels like we're all slowly re-gathering after the chaos of childbirth.

Elibean · 12/01/2007 21:59

Got fed up with Gaviscon - blocks the teats so nothing comes out, makes dd constipated (and she normally poos for Britain) and still isn't making any difference anyway. Colic/reflux seems to be easing off a bit...dare I say it...tonight was almost ok, unsettled at times but no screaming and no sicking up either. She's 7 weeks today, definitely not a newborn anymore - can't believe how fast its going!

Elibean · 12/01/2007 22:00

Oli, well done you veyr satisfying I bet!

Bebespain, feel better soon...

lucy5 · 12/01/2007 22:04

Hola! Back on line again, never moan about BT! I haven't had chance to read all the posts yet. Everything here is fine, Leo is still, sleping and eating and seems to be going through a growth spurt as I have ben pinned to the sofa all day. Hope everyone is well, will try and read all the posts beforehe wakes up again.

bewilderbeast · 12/01/2007 22:05

waiting for NHS direct to call me back, have very odd travelling rash/splotches on arms legs, feet and bum doesn't stay in one place for long, itches like hell. They are taking hours to call me back am sat here shivering. But the worst thing is I daren't go near Joe, and I daren't give him any breast milk just in case. Am really upse which is silly but what if it's something that means I have to keep clear of him for a while.

Elibean · 12/01/2007 22:14

BWB, that sounds horrid...poor you Hope they phone back soon and are helpful. I know what you mean about the upset: I had a vicious throat virus when dd was two days old (ulcers, like mouth ulcers, all over throat) and felt the same. If its a virus, know that you would be giving him your antibodies as much as anything else, at least...and get well soon. xxx

Hi Lucy

accessorizewithbabysick · 13/01/2007 14:02

As always, relieved that my ds is perfectly normal with hour long feeding & hiccups! I do find that cycle of things really annoying & then I'm trying to fit in a nappy change when it doesn't wake him up either (nappy rash a bit bad at present).
It was doing my head in this morning, he was up at 5.30, fed for an hour, went down, woke up 5 mins later with hiccups & didn't go to sleep again unti 1pm. The only thing is I thought they were linked to wind WB, he seems to get them if I don't wind him v.well or put him down flat straightaway. I've been more careful lately & spend more time keeping him upright & hiccups have decreased.
Poos have died off a bit here so the cloth nappy thing seems more realistic. I hope they'll help with the nappy rash too, poor ds2 has extremely sensitive skin. Anyone know an organic nappy rash cream that I could try, my usual metanium is failing.

jabberwocky · 13/01/2007 14:08

AQ, weleda calendula cream is nice.

Am tentatively cheering 3 good nights in a row. Ds2 has slept 3 - 4 hours, fed, then another 2- 3 once again! I am starting to feel almost human

A slight decrease in pooing frequency, but I'm still going to wait a bit on cloth. I spent most of yesterday catching up on what regular laundry we had

HayleyWayley · 13/01/2007 17:59

Well charlie isnt intersted in the baby gym i got him, guess hes too young!

He slept from 12.30am til 4am then woke up about 7am!not bad!

jabberwocky, ur LO is sleeping well, its nice to start feeling human again!
