Hhhmmm. Keep us posted!

ladydolly · 01/11/2015 12:02

Well it finally happened, she slept through the night! Kind of... dp was out and I was looking forward to an evening to myself. Dd had other ideas and just refused to stay asleep longer than 20 mins so I brought her downstairs with me and she crawled around in the dark until her dad got home at 9 when I fed her and then he managed to sing and rock her back to sleep and that was it until 6am. So perhaps the key is keep her up all evening! Of course I still feel shattered :)

Inundated with trick or treaters, I took the pumpkin in when she went to bed but one particularly keen set of teenage skeletons got a mouthfull when they rang the bell 3 times. I'm turning into those miserable women I hated as a kid!!

1st birthday party of the only baby group friend I ever made (quality not quantity eh?) today. Hard to know what to buy, she told me they've got toys for days. Went for a shirt and a bath toy in the end.

You might have seen it in press already, but thought I would post it here anyway. Cow&Gate is recalling their 10+ baby banana muesli:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34687221

We actually happen to have it at home. In my desperation to get DD eat cereals and porridge I cashed out for a special baby muesli. Thank goodness she refused to eat it! Grin

Arkkorox · 01/11/2015 14:59

Were off to the NCT fireworks in a mo. Last year they had 2500 people turn up so it should be interesting or hell

Annarose2014 · 01/11/2015 18:32

Well we bought loads of goodies in......and nobody called! So now we have a huge stash of pigginess in the cupboard!

Working in a&e right now. The amount of drunken teenage head/face injuries that were there this morning! I am going to lock DS up in the house when he's a teenager!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 01/11/2015 19:30

Well baby slept till 11.30pm n up again at 1.30+5.30 then slept til 9.30!!!

He has been diagnosed with asthma not lightly diagnosed in under 3yrs but gp pretty certain been on ventolin a couple weeks and now needs a preventive inhaler so he is discussing with asthma nurse tommorow and will get back to me. (Admittedly I am not totally convinced but will give treatment ago)

Most nights we are up due to coughing and wheezing and spend daytime now coughing and very rattly def no chest infection but has a virus he is struggling to shift which means random high temps we are rampaging through the calpol and nurofen. (Well asda own child version)

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 01/11/2015 19:31

Oh Anna I work with adolescents for my main job and have worked on paed wards where fri night sees many a drunk teen and I also see some shocking stuff now but the majority of teens are great it's the minority that we hear more about :)

happypotamus · 02/11/2015 09:39

Round here the trick-or-treat is a semi-organised thing so you get a huge number of kids all in one go in the afternoon rather than a few at a time all evening. Unfortunately, I had just persuaded DD to have a nap at a sensible time (rather than 4 or 5pm like the previous days) when they came. I didn't get up when the doorbell rang as she was asleep in my arms, but they kept ringing several times which woke her up Angry

This morning, as I rushed to get ready for the school run (didn't miss that at all last week), I realised how glad I am that we didn't wait another year to have DD2 (or take another year TTC as I had expected given it took years TTC DD1). I thought back to how crazy this time last year was with a newborn who couldn't feed and needed topping up with EBM and formula 3hrly when feeding her from the breast and the bottle and the expressing took most of the 3hrs anyway, and wondered how on earth I would ever have fit the school run in as well, especially as DH had to go back to work the day after we came home from hospital.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 02/11/2015 13:09

Happy that was me last year! :) school runs eurgh I lived for the weekend and school hols

Baby still has a terrible latch as has lip tie and now with teeth has been grazing my nipples means pumping leads to blood in milk n me chucking it despite knowing it's fine anyway one cut has been under the nipple around the edge where it joins the breast if that makes sense been using lansinoh and mama balm on it and hadn't bleed when pumping just hellishly sore when feeding anyway today went to attach pump and looked a little yellow and yuck bloody tissue and pain n stop pumping and now have a little hole now I think any yuck has gone but should prob go to doc for antibiotics.

Ok ladies don't forget your maternity exception certs run out soon so get in with dentist asap while free and request any repeat prescription now.

Arkkorox · 02/11/2015 19:54

Hmmm... A certain little person is very close to walking! GrinShock

haventgotaclue1 · 02/11/2015 21:03

That sounds pretty painful eastmids - I used this gauze-like material that was coated in a kind of vaseline (think it's called jellonet) when I had really painful nipples in the early days - it really helped. And thanks for the reminder re the exception cert Grin

Ark that's really exciting scary Grin. We only started crawling last weekend, but already she's pretty speedy and is pushing / pulling herself up onto her knees (which is great, except when she does it when she's supposed to be sleeping....)

The latest "best play thing ever"???? an empty cardboard nappy box... Wink

MrsAukerman · 02/11/2015 22:10

Yep it's scary the mobility here too. He did one unassisted step today but I couldn't see his feet from where I was sat. Confused
We don't encourage him to walk so we're not doing the whole holding his hands thing. He's far too grown up as it is!!!
Still having shit nights and hoping dropping his nap or walking might help. Clinging into any little scrap of hope that a certain thing will help sleep whereas deep down I know it's either developmental or requires some hardcore sleep training.

Annarose2014 · 02/11/2015 22:33

We've had two very wobbly steps. And today I was able to put on his nappy as his stood upright on his own. That was a revelation!

But its all intermittent - no consistency. He does want to walk though. When he pulls himself up my trousers he takes a step away and holds me at a distance as he looks around for the nearest handhold to move to.

Yet he still can't clap or wave! WTF??

We've had success with teeth brushing by the way. Basically I let him watch me brushing my teeth and he's so facinated he lets me do it to him too. Just for a couple of seconds, but its easier than I thought. Its like when you eat toast - they just want it cos you have it!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 02/11/2015 23:00

Thanks haven't saw gp def abscess prob never was grazed by teeth and always been an abscess on antibiotics I never even thought about jeolnet May have to try and get some.

We have started proper crawling Today and really trying to pull up luckily lazy legs means get to knees, still flips onto back n scoots across floor when speed is needed

Strawberryfield12 · 03/11/2015 08:50

We ended up doing a circle of pride in the town centre on Saturday. DD refused to remain in pram while out and about, the only thing what would shut her up was to hold her hand and let her walk with us. She had face on as if she had won the battle of Waterloo, so proud and content. She is very good walking holding one hand, not so good on her own, she just goes face down after few wobbles. I cannot decide how I feel about the whole walking thing, if she could walk on her own my back would be greatful and we would avoid few tantrums she throws at us when we had enough of walking her, but that's it then she will be everywhere.

With walking outside comes the footwear problem. She is still in her inch blue slippers although I put the second pair of socks on when we go out. We went to local shoe shop, the lady working there seemed very knowledgable. She said that proper shoes they recommend from 6 weeks after they start to walk independently. She did measure DD feet and tried to find some shoes better suited to walk outside in winter, but her ankles are still fairly low and feet haven't flattened. So there's big possibility shoes would make her uncomfortable.

moggle · 03/11/2015 09:50

We had three steps on Sunday morning, and a few odd ones since. I had a bath with her on Sunday evening and ridiculously she walked another couple of steps in the water, I swear she has no self preservation instinct!

Strawberry we're still in the leather slippers. There are some soft waterproof shoes / foot coverings around, I think H&M do some? We got some from amazon but they are like plastic bags with fleece lining- work well, but better for crawling really which is what DD mostly wants to do still.

Annarose2014 · 03/11/2015 10:53

Dreading having to buy shoes tbh. We're still in soft Mickey Mouse booties, but they're crap for walking as they just flop off. I dread his little feet being squished. (Though tbh his feet are getting fairly big now - they're starting to look toddler-ish rather than baby-ish).

Also shoes are so expensive!

moggle · 03/11/2015 11:14

I've read you have to get their feet measured every 6 weeks as they grow and change so much once they start walking!
I don't really like the look of any of the current Clarks styles. I really like Bobux shoes, but the only stockists locally only carry the more boring styles.

moggle · 03/11/2015 11:32

these are the Bobux shoes I like the look of for this stage - they seem to be just like the leather slipper type ones but with a proper rubber sole. (if the link doesn't work they are called Bobux Xplorer)

HalfStar · 03/11/2015 12:06

Oh those are so cute moggle, really like them.

strawberry the circle of pride image really made me laugh, I can just picture your DD's face. My dd1 used to do that and beam smugly around at everyone so they all noticed her.

MrsA hah we are doing the same thing here, clinging to the hope that walking will help... I now think it could be up to another month before DD2 walks independently as she just doesn't need to - she can stand and has taken a step but crawling and cruising get her around so much faster. We are going to work with a sleep consultant in a few weeks' time. I'm not expecting a dream fix but any improvement would be so welcome.

east ow ow ow. Are you bathing in salt water religiously? I got a lump taken out of my nipple at 9 months and I think bathing in salt water was what healed it up the quickest. You poor thing!

Last night was one of the worst for sleep ever and I ended up shouting at DD :( Blush DH not impressed at all.

Arkkorox · 03/11/2015 12:26

half I shouted last night too. Slapping me in the face repeatedly at half 4 was not going down well. Although after I shouted she settled straight down and slept till half 8!

Strawberryfield12 · 03/11/2015 15:23

I probably don't shout at DD because I grind teeth a lot... That would qualify me a passive aggressive by MN standards and the dentist wouldn't be impressed neither.

There is one thing what DD does which makes me laugh and cringe at the same time. Whenever she is surprised, impressed or etc., she goes "Oh wow!". We switch the light on in the morning, she sits up in the bed and "Oh wow!". Argh, where did she pick that up?!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 03/11/2015 16:17

Half no salt water bathing just hot flannels i don't think I could tolerate salt water I fed baby off it before bed n lots swearing under breath and again in night n then nothing til I pumped at lunchtime no bleeding or yuck but very achy boob my bf journey has def been a trial this time round.

Annarose2014 · 03/11/2015 16:50

The other day I was trying to feed Ds and he was refusing it and being massively stroppy and he slapped me in the face. I roared "NO!" and DH was all "don't shout at him"

I retorted that I am not going to spend the next 18 years without raising my voice and he was always going to get a raised tone when he slapped me in the bloody face!

haventgotaclue1 · 03/11/2015 19:18

So today was DD's first 'proper' morning (8-1) at nursery - we both survived Smile - she even napped there for 50 mins which amazed me. I dropped her off and although she was a little shy and clingy, there weren't any tears, and when I picked her up she was fine...she may have screamed every second in-between, but they didn't say that and she didn't appear red-eyed Wink

Ok, so a bit of a dense question....in a couple of weeks she's going to be there all day (8-5) and will be given lunch around 11.30 and tea around 3.30. Her bedtime routine currently starts at 6 with a BF, but once I go back to work, I can see this being a bit later. What do you all reckon: should I give her something else to eat when she gets home? If so, what? I mean, I'm assuming it wouldn't be a full hot meal???....I really haven't got a clue....
